Multiplier Locked
I was recently looking to raise my FSB and lower my multiplier when I noticed it was locked and I can't seem to change it.
Is there any way to unlock it?
I have an MSI 865P Neo
not with a P4 they are all factory locked bar some engineering samples the public dont get hold off

A88XM GAMING v1.5 BIOS CPU Multiplier Locked?
Since I updated to the latest v1.5 BIOS the CPU multiplier seems to be locked. Is this intended or an issue with BIOS, or am I just doing something wrong? The multiplier worked fine on v1.4. I am using an AMD Athlon 760k CPU. Thanks.
I cleared CMOS and it's working now, it's something I really should have done in the first place Thanks

X58 Pro and i7 920's 21X multiplier lock
Hi, I've read that many motherboards are capable of locking the 920's 21x turbo multiplier so it can be used for overclocking. So far I have been unsuccessful doing so with the X58 Pro. With EIST disabled, I manually selected the 21X multiplier in the bios. Unfortunately Windows still drops the multiplier down to 20x under full load. Is there some bios setting I'm missing or is this board simply not able to lock the turbo multipliers?
Perfectly normal , 920 has multiplier of 20 , under full load that is the max you will get on every board of any brand.
If you use HWmonitor http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php than you will see that your processor voltage with multiplier 21 max 150W is and if you stress cpu 100% it will drop to 130W that is the max TDP of the cpu. This is the meaning of turbo mode, if your cpu has power left (when you play game or other software because 100% load does not often happen) then the cpu uses this power to overclock one or two cores with one multiplier (21).
Msi made it possible to use turbo without EIST what is not seen often on motherboards because normally you need to use EIST witch is a power feature to use turbo.
If you google overclocking on core i7 you will see that many oc'ers disable this turbo mode because the don't want to use EIST.
I use EIST and turbo and my cpu is overclocked to 4083Mhz and under full load it falls back to 3926Mhz but in games it stays 4130Mhz if needed , but with EIST enabled my cpu falls back to 50% so 2130Mhz when surfing the internet or watching movie even in some games like cal of duty 5 my cpu fall's back to 2130Mhz because the game is not heavy on the cpu and i get constant frame rate off 90 FPS on 1920x1200 all max out.
With crysis the cpu goes to 4130Mhz , so this game uses the cpu more.(not for 100% because then it will fall back to 3926Mhz like when i encode movies to h.264)
I use EIST so my energy consumption is not so high when i don't play games.
But when i need the power turbo will kick in. -
Hi
Is there a bios for this board with unlocked cpu multipliers as I would like to clock my 9600BE using Multipliers.
TIA
NemesisUKI just got a reply from them telling me how to change the multi, they dont seem to understand that I cant even get to the setting as when I try it just skips over the option.
I'm now waiting a response now I explained that to them.
Ok just got another response stating that in a future bios the multi will be unlocked. I therefore look forward to this new bios at some point. -

Setting the multiplier to 9 or above: no problem.
My CPU is an Athlon 1400 and its L1 bridges are "factory unlocked".
How could I fix this issue?
Many thanks.
Not that this may help, but years ago I had an old Pentium 2 that had its multiplier locked when going above its default, but unlocked when going below its default multiplier. It came this way from the factory. Pretty good FSB overclocker, btw.... :] Later I found that Intel had changed this and subsequent P2's came from the factory locked in both directions.
Might it be that the cpu is not as "unlocked" as you've been led to believe? Just a thought. A way to prove this one way or the other I think would be to try it in another motherboard.
Well, I don't think this is the same kind of issue because I used this Athlon 1400 with any multiplier on an ABIT KT7A before buying this MSI KT3. -
Multiplier fix for K8N-Plat.
Hello all.
Is there a BIOS fix for the multiplier problem on the K8N ? Everytime i select a different MP than the original 11 he reboots and works. But once i restart a second time the computer hangs and i need to clear the CMOS. It is definetly not CPU or RAM related. What BIOS should i use for the K8N ?
Thank you for any help given.

Hope this helps
Actually you can change the multiplier . You can decrease it all day long . You just can't increase it above the lock .
I didn't know that about the Insert key.... Wow, that sure beats popping the hood and foolin with the jumper . But I wonder, does it really work if you're system's not even posting? Can anyone confirm this? I'm not talking about a dead BIOS that has to be RMA'd. What I'm talking about is let's say computer won't start but you can get it back by reseting the jumper. In that situation, would this insert key thing work instead? -
is this normal on a 2800+ 9x multiplier i see people in the forum with 11x
also i have kingmax turbo 3500 ram what timings would u recomend for itA64 is multiplier locked cpu's . You can use a lower one than your cpu's max multiplier but not higher .
s754 2800 max multiplier 9 (9*200=1,8ghz)
s754 3000 max multiplier 10 (10*200=2,0ghz)
s754 3200 max multiplier 11 (11*200=2,2ghz)
s754 3400 max multiplier 12 (12*200=2,4ghz)

865PE Neo2-S:CPU Ration LOCKED ??!!
Hi All,
I am using a P4 2.4C ghz CPU with it. When I go to "Frequency/Voltage Control", in the "CPU Ratio Selection", it says LOCKED !!! I can't change it. When I press "Enter" to go into submenu, it only gives me one option, which is "LOCKED".
Please help.
Thanks.Quote

Reason is not very sure, but because Intel is afraid of dealers selling o/c systems using lower processing CPUs to customer and has implement a lock in the CPU ratio to prevent this. I used to have an Abit board which unlocks all feature including CPU ratio for o/c, but performance still lags behind this NEO board, although I have the Abit board to o/c my system to 2.66MHz and my NEO2 board to remain system speed at 2.4GHz.
This board is still out-performing many when keeping at original CPU speeds, unless if you\'re really keen on o/cing you can try Corecenter but I don\'t recommend tweaking from here if you\'ve read through carefully on how it o/c system. Anyway, it all depends on you whether to do or not to do.
All the Best... :D!!!
Intel CPU's are always multiplier locked. This is not MSI's fault. Intel decides what multiplier a CPU gets.
They have done this since the P133. -
K8N Neo2 Platinum 54G BIOS problem
I recently bought a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum-54G mainboard with W7025NMS v1.3 092204 revision of BIOS.
AMD Athlon64 3000+ 939 is installed on the mainboard, with 2x512 GEIL PC3200 memory modules in dual channel configuration working on default frequency of 200MHz. CPU is recognized correctly as AMD Athlon64 3000+ on startup.
Mainboard’s BIOS seems to be corrupted. In Cell Menu options, in the upper left part of the screen (printed blue) are processor and DDR working timings:
Current CPU Clock 1810MHZ, Current DDR Clock 200MHz.
Aggressive Timings and Dynamic Overclocking values are [Disabled] (processor working on its defaulf settings); Spread Spectrum is [Disabled] while all DRAM Configuration settings are set to [Auto].
While entering HT frequency settings, (locked to [x5]) there are no other values to select – empty, and there is no way to leave it (ESC doesn’t help, the only thing possible to do is to reset the computer by pressing the Reset button on the chassis), but the HT frequency settings were enabled when I loaded Fail-Safe settings, offering [1x], [1.5x], [2x], [2.5x], [3x], [4x], [5x].
Adjust CPU Ratio settings offer only [StartUp], [x4]~[x9] values, but as I understood by reading the manual there should be [StartUp], [x4]~[x20].
CPU Voltage, Memory Voltage and AGP Voltage are set to default.
CPU-Z, as well as SiSoft Sandra 2004 and SiSoft Sandra 2005 and MSI CORE CELL show that processor works at a core speed ~1005MHz, showing multiplier locked on x5.0 and HTT locked at ~200MHz, while the voltage is ~1.05V!
I downloaded the latest BIOS revision (v1.4), did the BIOS flash, but the problem remains!

CPU Ratio settings
AMD64 CPOU's have a lock on CPU ratios which varies according to the specification of the chip. therefore the multiplier available in your bios stops at the max multiplier allowed by amd for your cpu.
As an example i'm running a 3200 754 which has a maximum muliplier of 11 so that is the max i see in bios.

Step By Step Overclocking 2400 xp athlon,
hey guy i know there are some smart guys in here so i would like to ask one for you guys to write a step by step guide to over my athlon 2400xp.
i have a K7N2 Delta-L
(SPP+MCP2, Onboard 10/100 LAN)
thanks guys for your time
marc,a this is the nvidia forum not the overclockers forum
we are trying to keep them seperate
but never mind your hear now
b how old the cpu as newer ones are multiplier locked and evan wire trick dont work,
c what speeds the ram pc 2100 2700 3200 make model etc
go read stickies in that section re wire tricking etc -
X79A-GD45 (8D) OCP always enabled?
Hi guys,
Is there a way to disable the OCP in the X79A-GD45 (8D)? It seems I have 2 options: "Default" and "Enhanced". Enhanced buys me a little bit more room, but currently I'm stuck at 4.5GHz @ 1.425V. Anymore voltage and the processor just immediately clicks off as soon as I start Prime95.
I have a very hardcore water-cooling system. ApogeeXT + quad radiator + 2x MCP35X to drive the whole thing, so I can probably put some serious voltages into the thing if the board will let me.Sorry, it would be nice to list the CPU eh? It's a 3930K.

You are already overvolting the CPU past Intel's published datasheet absolute maximum as it is for a 3930k or 3960X by .25v's.
Anyways, I'm convinced that Intel's datasheets are much too conservative. I have an i7-920 here that has been running 4 GHz @ 1.5V for almost 2 years now. The thing also hit 100C (obviously this was an air cooler) from time to time when I ran torture tests on it and yet nothing bad has come of it yet. I'm an EE by trade so I understand the problems of inverse relationship between lifespan and voltage, but you can't really destroy modern day silicon chips unless you SERIOUSLY exceed the voltages (25%+)
I'm currently water-cooled with a Apogee XT and a quad radiator and dual pumps, so the temp on the processor even at 1.425 is 55C under load so cooling is not the issue here.

Just keeping cranking the volts to it until it is stable or pops at the set speed.
That's kind of my point, the motherboard OCP protection won't let me crank the volts. I witness this problem whether I'm multiplier locked to 1.2 GHz or 4.6 GHz. Actually my CPU will take 1.6V and boot at 5.2 GHz to Windows desktop. But as soon as I put any kind of load on it, the OCP kicks in and ends my fun. My question is, is there a way of disabling it? The manual says that it can be disabled, but I assume this is because they just took a GD65 manual and changed 65 to 45. Is MSI good with BIOS updates for this sort of thing or should I go ahead and return the board and get something a bit more.. supported? -
hi guys
i need a little help here i have upgraded my cpu to a phenom 9500 and after getting it up and running i went into the bios to do some tweaking and i can no longer adjust the multiplyer or cpu voltage its currently set to auto but will not let me change anything as they have been locked out.
i know all of the amd chips are multiplyer locked except for the black editions, I used to be able to overclock my old chip which was a 5000+ clocked at 2.8ghz stable by adjusting the fsb to 225 and a multi of 12.5 on watercooling.
but now it wont play ball.
IS THERE ANY WAY OF OVERCOMING THIS PLZ HELP!!!!!!ISSUE SOLVED
flashed board with final 1.2 bios release
unlocked and clocked at a whopping 2.76 ghz with 1.25 core voltage
i could have gone more but this board will not allow above 1.25 core volts with a phenom installed -
[915 Series] 915G dont reconyze my G.Skill as pc3200!
My new memory G.Skill (F1-3200PHU2-1GBZX http://www.gskill.com/f1-3200phu2-zx.html ) its not reconyzed as pc3200 and its runing at 266(133) !!!
My Syntem: MSI 915G(bios 1.6), MSI X600XT, Win XPse etc
I can manually set the DDR frequency to 400mhz but it makes no difference. The only way i can raise it back to DDR400 is to up the CPU FSB to 240, with the multiplier locked this makes my 3.0G cpu into a 3.6 and to be honest i dont want to go down that road.
The ratio was changed to 5 : 4 and i cant change this option on 915G. I think the devider is holding somehow this frequencie.
When i put back my old Corsair Value on it everything its fine again. Ratio 1:1.
Sorry about my english
Any advide.... cheersCheck if you've something called spread spectrum in your BIOS, if there's one, disable it.
Next, we don't have any beta BIOS here as this is a user to user forum so please contact MSI directly with regards to this.
