Multisim 13 error?

I am simulating a simple circuit.
One of my nets shows on the 4 channel oscilloscope the expected values: going from -20V on 71 us to +20V on 96 us.
The bahaviour of the circuit does not reflect this.
After searching I put multimeters on the same net.
On 71 us  this showed -17V and on 96 us -12V.
This looks to me a simulation error.
Note that after many simulation errors (stops) I had to put the parameters at
ABSTOL 1E-6 VNTOL 1E-3 RELTOL 1E-2 RSHUNT 1e*8 and max transient iterations at 500.
Thanks for any comments

Thank you Thierry,
The model is attached. I changed hierarchical blocks to subcircuits, I hope this makes sure it is complete.
A confidential part of the main circuit has been removed, but the error still shows up, also with the inputs of the LM293D now within spec.
In the first screenprint you see that net C1_active, attached to connector ON is 0V on oscilloscope XSC7, T2, and 10.233V on multimeter XMM1.
In the second screenprint it is 20V on XSC7, T1, and 10V on XMM1.
In case you look into it, please note that my other comment about a possible error in the model for LM293D (no open collector output) is also demonstrated in this model.
Kind Regards,
Jan

  • THS7530 component in multisim error

I've recently attempted testing out the Texas Instruments THS7530 in multisim.  After experiencing difficulties getting a signal output from the suggested test circuit in the device datasheet I inspected the device model.  It is in fact the same model (created 11/26/02) that is printed on the device datasheet.  This model only features 8 pins from the 12 functioning pins on the device.  It misses the Vg- pin suggesting it is tied to ground, it missing the PD (power down) pin suggesting this is constantly on and finally missing the Vclamp pins (which in the datasheet model suggests this function is not modeled).  However in the model schematic the device symbol has all 12 functioning pins accusable.  Am I missing something form the multisim model that allows these device functions that are missing from the datasheet model?
I am still yet to obtain any signal outputs from the multisim database model however when loading the datasheet model onto a custom component I'm achieving an amplified output.  The output however is being harshly clamped to 3.5Vpk-pk for any input signals exceeding 300mVpk-pk (At a Vgain level of 0.5V and Vocm at 2.5V).  This is contrary to the quoted input signal range of the device ranging from -Vs to +Vs.  I'm assuming this is the un-adjustable clamping level of the model having an effect, is there any way I can adjust this to provide amplification for a 2V pk-pk input signal without getting clamping effects?
    Many thanks,
    Robert

    Hello Robert,
Thank you for your post. I have a few questions that will help me in understanding your problem better.
Did you find this device in one of the built in Multisim libraries or did you import it?
If you have imported it where did you import it from?
When you made your custom device did you follow all of these steps: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3173/en
Can you make a very basic simple circuit that demonstrates the error and send it to me.
    Many thanks,

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to simulate a zerocrossing detector using OP Amp, it is not that deficult to be confused about it ! but multisim gives me a horrible results. i even brought my text book and made a review on the circuit a again ! may be i commit a mistake but it was correct !
and i beleive it is not a mistake that multisim can commit cause it is multisim !
i spent all the night trying to figure it out but i found nothing
so can anyone help me with that ?

  • Error multisim 10 with windows vista

Hi, I have seen that multisim 10 is not compatible with windows vista, when I installed all is ok, but when I try to run the programs it marks an error, with autoroute.dll (998) or something like that, I know that in this forum is already a similar post, but it has not answer, and it is since 2007. I hope you can help me, thank you

    Hello,
Multisim 10.0.1 is compatible with Windows Vista, and this is a free update. Go to the Drivers and Updates page, and select your edition (Student, Educational, Power Pro).

  • MultiSim 9.0.41. Non-admin users unable to launch program without error messages.

I have installed MultiSim 9.0.41 has been installed on four workstations. The PCs reside within a local domain with ten users. The domain resides within the greater university domain, is technically not configured as a true subdomain, but it has access to university domain resources (such as the license server). We have SSO (remote profiles) functionality enabled.
MultiSim runs with without problems for admin users. We start having issues with nonadmin users. I series of pop-up messages appear when the program is launched:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine can not open the file C:\Program Files\Electronics Workbench\EWB9\database\mscomp_s.prd. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data."
"The Microsoft Jet database engine can not open the file C:\Program
    Files\Electronics Workbench\EWB9\database\CPCOMP_S.PRJ. It is already
opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its
    data."
    "Error loading library C:\Program
Files\Electronics Workbench\EWB9\PCBComponentEdit.dll, ('998') Invalid access to memory location."
"The Microsoft Jet database engine can not open the file C:\Program
    Files\Electronics Workbench\EWB9\database\mscomp_s.prd. It is already
opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its
    data. Error Code:3051"
    Solutions attempted (without success):
    - Update program (no updates found via update manager or NI site)
    - Run program as admin
    - Give all users full permissions to program files (major security risk)
    - Change "Directory for EWB Shared Components" to public shared drive. Interestingly, MultiSim shows the network drive as unwritable (though it clearly is).
Any ideas? Are there updates that fix this issue? Is this solved by the newest version? What do I need to do differently to ensure that user config files are saved in their roaming profiles vs. locally (note: I have already tried to correct the paths during install and post-install without success).
    Thanks!

    Hi Refriend,
The error message indicates Multisim is not able to read/write to the database folder.  Please have a look at the following knowledge base article for instructions to correct the database problem.
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/B06773CE511C7E588625720B00502B8E
Multisim 9, you need to setup the permission for the database manually but in version 10, this step is not required.  As for saving user config file as part of the roaming profile, this option is not available.  Multisim will always look in the locale drive for the config file and if one does not exist it will create one for that user and save it locally.

  • Get error 998 when starting Multisim 10 on Windows Vista Home Basic PC (Ultiboard too)

    Hi,
I´m getting 2 errors when I start Multisim and Ultiboard, which are:
    Error loading library C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite 10.0\Autoroute.dll, ('998')
The data area passed to a system call is too small.
    AND
    Error loading library C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite 10.0\DDFlink.dll, ('998')
    Invalid access to memory location.
and after that it freezes, does anyone know what to do?
I´ve already tried running it as an administrator, and in Windows XP compatability mode...
    Thanks for any help,
    John

    Hi Yetti!
Unfortunately at the moment Multisim 10 is not supported under Windows Vista. There should be a patch very shortly for it. One recommendation i can make is that you uninstall the circuit design and that at reinstalling you dont allow the SSU to install any update. I can't guarantee this will work but it may fix a few things for you.

  • Multisim user error user.ewfg not found

Hello ! I have a problem with Multisim 8: i've installed it as administrator and when i try to launch it as a user (the user name is student) i get this error: student.ewfg not found default.ewfg nor found! i have enabled Full control options and it still doesn't work. It would be great if anyone can help me. Thank you

If you logged on the machine with an ‘admin” account Multisim
starts but when logged on with a "user" account, it does not, then
this have to be a permission issue.  You need to give everyone full access
    to the following folders:
    1.  Multisim user
    2.  Database
Double check mscomp_s.prd inside the database folder, the permission you set on
the Database folder does not inherent to this file.

  • Runtime error with multisim v10

I recently downloaded the eval version of "Circuit Design Suite 10.0" and everytime I run it I get a runtime error, and the program closes. Sometimes it allows me to use it for a while and sometimes it happens within a few minutes of starting the program (Multisim) is there a fix for this? It is hard to evaluate if I can't use the program.
My OS is win xp pro and my hardware meets/exceeds the min. requirements.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

But you don't get any specific message then (e.g. a unique DLL or module causing the problem)?
If not, then, try repairing the installation, Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs >> National Instruments Software >> NI Circuit Design Suite 10.0.... click Repair...
If you get a specific message post it here, it will be easier to identify what is triggering the problem.

  • Multisim simulation error

I am encountering an error while simulating AD636, ADG407 and AD623. I even tried to use ADI Multisim AD Edition but still receiving the same type of error.  These multisim symbols are downloaded from Analog Devices website.

    Hi Harold,
    Circuit 2
Please use the attached model.  The sqrt function is causing a problem with the current SPICE engine, you can replace sqrt with pwr () function and the model should behave the same.
    Circuit 1.
You need to add a semi colon to indicate comment on the line shown below.  Double click on the component and select Edit Model
    R_VB_C     422 500 1E6             components on these nodes
    Circuit 4.
I believe this is a model issue.  There are many models that were not designed to work single power supply and I believe is the case here.
    Circuit 6.
I ran the circuit in ADI edition and also 10.0.1 and was not able to replicate the simulation error.

  • Multisim 2001 "too many parameters for subcircuit" error

When simulating circuits in Multisim 2001 with op amps from User library am getting Netlist Error message "Unable to correctly determine the nodes for the current circuit due to the following reasons:
Too many parameters for subcircuit type lf156_op_amps_1 (instance: xxu3)"
or a similar message for whatever op amp am using.  Have tried creating components for several different op amps and always get same error message.  Carefully checked the Pin Mapping Table and the symbol pins are correctly matched with order of pins in model.  The only way have been able to get a simulation to run with op amp components in the User Library is if copy an op amp directly from Multisim library to User library and make no changes whatsoever.  But if do something seemingly minor such as bring up the Symbol editor and add a text note underneath the symbol then get the "too many parameters for subcircuit" error.
Am also getting a Consistency Self Check error stating "Error: The circuit it empty.  Simulation requires at least one ground."  Do have ground in circuit; presumably this error is related to Netlist error above.
Operating system is Windows XP Professional.

Well, this is an interesting situation in Multisim 2001. I tried doing this with another component and had the same results. I just renamed the part with no other changes and re-saved it to my database and sure enough I got this error. I have no idea what is causing this other than just a bug in the software. Us 2001 users will just have to live with this unless someone does happen to find a solution.
I don't seem to have any problems when creating new components and using or editing existing symbols with new model information. This does suck. What if just wanted to edit one paramenter instead of using a completely different model? I really hope someone can find a workaround or solution to this. I am glad you broughtm this to our attention.

  • Multisim database error

i just installed NI Circuit Design Suite and when i start up multisim v10 student i get a lot of error message's saying "not a valid password. Error Code: 3031.The Master Database cannot be read. Features using the Master Database will not work" and after clicking OK multisim opens up and there are no components to select. i have reinstall a few times and i keep getting the same error. what can i do to fix this?

    Hello lancee,
    What's your operating system?
Multisim version (go to Help>>About Multisim)?
Did you install Multisim using the default path (C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite 10.0)?

  • Multisim 8 student suite when trying to load gives me a security error.

I recently purchased Mulitsim 8 Studentsuite and once installed I try to open it and all it does is give me a popup box that says security error. Can some one give me ideal on what to do or how to fix.

    roverton,
Security error message is -most of the times- related to not having proper administrator privileges in several folders of your installation. Here is a knowledgebase that will help you resolve this issue.
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/b06773ce511c7e588625720b00502b8e
Follow the instructions from this KB, however, make sure that you apply the same security settings to the following folders -which are the install path-:
    EWB9\Database
    EWB9\Settings
    EWB9\Multisim Users
If you have Multisim 8, it should be the same, instead of EWB9 is EWB8. The main objective is to give to any user the Full Control setting for those folders.

  • Run-time error '9': subscript out of range when starting Multisim/Utilboard v10

    Hi all!
After having installed and registred NI Circuit Design Suite 10 (Single user licenses) on
XP-SP2 and Windows2000-SP4 computer, I get the following error message when
I try to start either Multisim10 or Utilboard10 (Full edition versions)
    "Run-time error '9':
    Subscript out of range
The problem appears both with standard users as well as with the Administrator user.
As I click on "OK", the program proceeds as usual and seems (?) to work fine.
The problem does not appear if I do not register the copy of NI Circuit Design Suite 10
and I run it as evaluation instead.

We have german version of Window XP and 2000 (the folder where Multisim was installed is C:\Programme\ etc etc).
The very same dialog box appears written in german (see attachment) in one of our computers, maybe because

    Hi techguru,
When installing Multisim and Ultiboard, you need to be logged in as an Administrator. The issue here seems to be that the installer does not seem to have access to the folder and this can be because of not being logged in as admin. Try to log in as admin and try to install. If there is a firewall in place which could be causing this, you should disable it during installation.

  • Modelling error in Multisim's Tektronix TDS2024 FFT option

The user's manual for Tektronix TDS2024 mentions that a 1 Vrms signal will be displayed as 0 dB peak in the FFT view. However, when I connect a 1 Vrms source to Tektronix TDS2024 scope in Multisim, I get a peak at 3 dB. This is only possible if National Instruments is using peak value in 20 log(V1/Vref) forumla instead of the RMS value which an actual (i.e., physical) TDS2024 oscilloscope uses.
Could someone confirm if its really a mistake or is it supposed to be like that?
    Thanks in advance.

You nailed it!  In the (old SPICE) analyses everything is peak amplitude (as it is in MULTISIM's "signal" sources).  NI's additon of RMS options to "power" sources and not changing the corresponding "AC Analysis" from peak to RMS kinda added to the confusion!  It seems to me that MULTISIM should stick to one or the other for consistency and make it clear what it is!  Most EEs likely think that RMS is the "default" whereas most CSs (like the origimal Berkeley SPICE developers) likely thought peak was (as in Asin(omega)).

  • Jet error with Multisim

    Hello
I've just installed Multisim only to find out that it is not functioning. When I start multisim I get an error saying that MSComp_S.prd, CPComp_S.prj and UsrComp_S_.usr can't be opened. 'The error message end with The User Database cannot be read. Features using the User Database will not work.' I would guess that it's a problem with the Jet database engine. I've got Windows XP Home so I do not have permissions, so that can't be the problem.

Hi, I just read this post and I would like to ask you a couple of questions, please be detailed on your answers so we can get a better idea on how to get to the root of the problem since this is a very uncommon error.
    1. In your original post, what exact version of Multisim were you installing?... Was that 10.0? or were you installing a version 9 or previous?
    2. Were you doing a clean installation or did you had a previous installation?
    3. Did you change any of the default installation directories?
    4. After you were done installing, did you manually moved/copy any of the user, corporate or master databases?
Then you have another post about upgrading to 10.0.1, which first of all, I believe that error is related, however:
    5. Does the error shows up while installing 10.0.1? Or after is installed?
Please answer back those questions, however, to access the databases Multisim uses the DAO object which is installed in Windows, in some cases, not able to access the database is related to a permissions settings, which if you say you are Admin it might not be the reason, but still, check the installation directory:  C:/Program Files/National Instruments/Circuit Design Suite 10.0/  folder properties and make sure that you have Full Control permission on that folder.
Another reason is that the DAO object is not properly set in your system, we have an old KB 3ZQAMIDK that talks about how to properly register it, you might want to give it a try.
And last, please try to do a clean install of 10.0.1, you may need to uninstall previous installations, and delete the installation directory.
