Multitrack and display performance

When I zoom in or out (horizontally) on the multitrack it takes really a while to update the display.
It needs to be faster in order to work properly.
So which factors are involved in this process, how can I improve performance?
I am running Audition CS6 on a Mid2010 MacPro with 16GB RAM and 10.7.5 MacOS,
using nVidia Quadro 4000 for display. The audio disc is connected by Firewire800, measured speed typically around 60-80 MB/s read/write.
The session has 9 stereo tracks, a video track and no buses; the length is about 90 minutes. No other applications running.
Any suggestions?

This has been a problem ever since the appearance of the Control Panel. The Control Panel often fails to update. I frequently have to rightClick the page ruler, select inches as the UOM (even though it's already set that way), in order to cause the Control Panel to refresh.

  • My performance is very slow when I run graphs. How do I increase the speed at which I can do other things while the data is being updated and displayed on the graphs?

I am doing an an aquisition and displaying the data on graphs. When I run the program it is slow. I think because I have the number of scans to read associated with my scan rate. It takes the number of seconds I want to display on the chart times the scan rate and feeds that into the number of samples to read at a time from the AI read. The problem is that it stalls until the data points are aquired and displayed so I cannot click or change values on the front panel until the updates occur on the graph. What can I do to be able to help this?

It may also be your graphics card. LabVIEW can max the CPU and you
screen may not be refreshing very fast.

  • Illustrator CS5 display performance of fine lines and patterns

    Hi,
is there a way to improve the display performance in Illustrator CS5? I am working on a large piece which has a lot of very fine cross-hatching that I create with dotted .5 lines (why I'm using Illustrator rather than Photoshop for that isn't open for discussion ). It looks fine when saved as a jpeg or exported to Photoshop, but in Illustrator itself the lines show up significantly thicker and darker - which is very confusing. Switching to Overprint/Pixel Preview doesn't change much.
I've taken a couple of screenshots (taken at 16% zoom) to illustrate what I mean.
    Illustrator screenshot:
    Photoshop screenshot:
Also I've noticed the same problem with pattern tiles - when zoomed out to ~50% they start to lose their seemlessness (and look like an incomprehensible mess)

it's a very large file so I export it at 72ppi. But exporting isn't a problem - regardless of what resolution I export it at the lines always look smoother and softer in Photoshop. Zooming in at 100% in Illustrator gives an accurate display (exactly the same as in PS, I compared the two), it's only when I zoom out that the lines start to look rough and jagged.

  • Display Performance Difference between CS3 and CS4

I have a computer running CS3 and a computer running CS4. When I place an image in InDesign CS3, it looks way better than when I place it in CS4. The display performance for both computers are set exactly the same. Raster and Vector images are set to proxy, transparency is set to medium quality, Anti Aliasing is turned on.
    The CS4 computer:
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Memory 4GB
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
    CS3 computer:
    Processor Name: PowerPC G5
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Memory 4GB
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
What am I missing? It is virtually every image.

"You can adjust the quality of the the display itself without altering the name of the setting."
Tried that. The end result is viewing images at the higher quality that slows down the machine.
"Also, the size and resolution of images plays a role in how large the previews are, and their quality."
The difference is very noticeable when the exact same image is placed at the exact same sizes in InDesign CS3 and CS4. Everything in the workflow remained the same, except the changing of InDesign files.

  • Refresh table and display the records after insertion of data from back end

    Hi Experts,
    JDEV 11.1.2.1
I have a useacase which needs data to be inserted from oracle back end procedure and displayed in a ADF Table Component, when a button is pressed.
is this possible?..if yes , how?
Is view object will automatically refreshed and fetches newly created(from back end) rows?
    thankz in advance

    Hi user707,
    thankz for ur reply....
i think after executing a procedure you want to call commit operation. better you can perform this.getDbtransaction().commit In Application Module;yes i want to commit transaction after executing back end procedure using preparedStatement.Procedure is for inserting data into same table , which used for creating VO and Read only ADF Table.Procedure is executed fine, but newly created records are not getting into ADF table.Once i did commit opeartion inside back end procedure, whole records are getting into ADF Table.
Is there any way to get whole records without doing Commit operation inside Back end procedure?

  • A64 Tweaker and Improving Performance

I noticed a little utility called "A64 Tweaker" being mentioned in an increasing number of posts, so I decided to track down a copy and try it out...basically, it's a memory tweaking tool, and it actually is possible to get a decent (though not earth-shattering by any means) performance boost with it.  It also lacks any real documentation as far as I can find, so I decided to make a guide type thing to help out users who would otherwise just not bother with it.
Anyways, first things first, you can get a copy of A64 Tweaker here:  http://www.akiba-pc.com/download.php?view.40
Now that that's out of the way, I'll walk through all of the important settings, minus Tcl, Tras, Trcd, and Trp, as these are the typical RAM settings that everyone is always referring to when they go "CL2.5-3-3-7", so information on them is widely available, and everyone knows that for these settings, lower always = better.  Note that for each setting, I will list the measured cange in my SiSoft Sandra memory bandwidth score over the default setting.  If a setting produces a change of < 10 MB/sec, its effects will be listed as "negligible" (though note that it still adds up, and a setting that has a negligible impact on throughput may still have an important impact on memory latency, which is just as important).  As for the rest of the settings (I'll do the important things on the left hand side first, then the things on the right hand side...the things at the bottom are HTT settings that I'm not going to muck with):
Tref - I found this setting to have the largest impact on performance out of all the available settings.  In a nutshell, this setting controls how your RAM refreshes are timed...basically, RAM can be thought of as a vast series of leaky buckets (except in the case of RAM, the buckets hold electrons and not water), where a bucket filled beyond a certain point registers as a '1' while a bucket with less than that registers as a '0', so in order for a '1' bucket to stay a '1', it must be periodically refilled (i.e. "refreshed").  The way I understand this setting, the frequency (100 MHz, 133 MHz, etc.) controls how often the refreshes happen, while the time parameter (3.9 microsecs, 1.95 microsecs, etc.) controls how long the refresh cycle lasts (i.e. how long new electrons are pumped into the buckets).  This is important because while the RAM is being refreshed, other requests must wait.  Therefore, intuitively it would seem that what we want are short, infrequent refreshes (the 100 MHz, 1.95 microsec option).  Experimentation almost confirms this, as my sweet spot was 133 MHz, 1.95 microsecs...I don't know why I had better performance with this setting, but I did.  Benchmark change from default setting of 166 MHz, 3.9 microsecs: + 50 MB/sec
Trfc - This setting offered the next largest improvement...I'm not sure exactly what this setting controls, but it is doubtless similar to the above setting.  Again, lower would seem to be better, but although I was stable down to '12' for the setting, the sweet spot here for my RAM was '18'.  Selecting '10' caused a spontaneous reboot.  Benchmark change from the default setting of 24:  +50 MB/sec
Trtw - This setting specifies how long the system must wait after it reads a value before it tries to overwrite the value.  This is necessary due to various technical aspects related to the fact that we run superscalar, multiple-issues CPU's that I don't feel like getting into, but basically, smaller numbers are better here.  I was stable at '2', selecting '1' resulted in a spontaneou reboot.  Benchmark change from default setting of 4:  +10 MB/sec
Twr - This specifies how much delay is applied after a write occurs before the new information can be accessed.  Again, lower is better.  I could run as low as 2, but didn't see a huge change in benchmark scores as a result.  It is also not too likely that this setting affects memory latency in an appreciable way.  Benchmark change from default setting of 3:  negligible
Trrd - This controls the delay between a row address strobe (RAS) and a seccond row address strobe.  Basically, think of memory as a two-dimensional grid...to access a location in a grid, you need both a row and column number.  The way memory accesses work is that the system first asserts the column that is wants (the column address strobe, or CAS), and then asserts the row that it wants (row address strobe).  Because of a number of factors (prefetching, block addressing, the way data gets laid out in memory), the system will often access multiple rows from the same column at once to improve performance (so you get one CAS, followed by several RAS strobes).  I was able to run stably with a setting of 1 for this value, although I didn't get an appreciable increase in throughput.  It is likely however that this setting has a significant impact on latency.  Benchmark change from default setting of 2:  negligible
Trc - I'm not completely sure what this setting controls, although I found it had very little impact on my benchmark score regardless of what values I specified.  I would assume that lower is better, and I was stable down to 8 (lower than this caused a spontaneous reboot), and I was also stable at the max possible setting.  It is possible that this setting has an effect on memory latency even though it doesn't seem to impact throughput.  Benchmark change from default setting of 12:  negligible
Dynamic Idle Cycle Counter - I'm not sure what this is, and although it sounds like a good thing, I actually post a better score when running with it disabled.  No impact on stability either way.  Benchmark change from default setting of enabled:  +10 MB/sec
Idle Cycle Limit - Again, not sure exactly what this is, but testing showed that both extremely high and extremely low settings degrade performance by about 20 MB/sec.  Values in the middle offer the best performance.  I settled on 32 clks as my optimal setting, although the difference was fairly minimal over the default setting.  This setting had no impact on stability.  Benchmark change from default setting of 16 clks:  negligible
Read Preamble - As I understand it, this is basically how much of a "grace period" is given to the RAM when a read is asserted before the results are expected.  As such, lower values should offer better performance.  I was stable down to 3.5 ns, lower than that and I would get freezes/crashes.  This did not change my benchmark scores much, though in theory it should have a significant impact on latency.  Benchmark change from default setting of 6.0 ns:  negligible
Read Write Queue Bypass - Not sure what it does, although there are slight performance increases as the value gets higher.  I was stable at 16x, though the change over the 8x default was small.  It is possible, though I think unlikely, that this improves latency as well.  Benchmark change from default setting of 8x:  negligible
Bypass Max - Again not sure what this does, but as with the above setting, higher values perform slightly better.  Again I feel that it is possible, though not likely, that this improves latency as well.  I was stable at the max of 7x.  Benchmark change from the default setting of 4x:  negligible
Asynch latency - A complete mystery.  Trying to run *any* setting other than default results in a spontaneous reboot for me.  No idea how it affects anything, though presumably lower would be better, if you can select lower values without crashing.
...and there you have it.  With the tweaks mentioned above, I was able to gain +160 MB/sec on my Sandra score, +50 on my PCMark score, and +400 on my 3dMark 2001 SE score.  Like I said, not earth-shattering, but a solid performance boost, and it's free to boot.  Settings what I felt had no use in tweaking the RAM for added performance, or which are self-explanatory, have been left out.  The above tests were performed on Corsair XMS PC4000 RAM @ 264 MHz, CL2.5-3-4-6 1T.

Hm...I wonder which one is telling the truth, the BIOS or A64 tweaker.
I've wondered this myself.  From my understanding it the next logic step from the WCREDIT programs.  I understand how clock gen can misreport frequency because it's probably not measuring frequency itself but rather a mathmatical representation of a few numbers it's gathered and one clk frequency(HTT maybe?), and the non supported dividers messes up the math...but I think the tweaker just extracts hex values strait from the registers and displays in "English", I mean it could be wrong, but seeing how I watch the BIOS on The SLI Plat change the memory timings in the POST screen to values other then SPD when it Auto with agressive timings in disabled, I actually want to side with the A64 tweaker in this case.
Hey anyone know what Tref in A64 relates to in the BIOS.  i.e 200 1.95us = what in the BIOS.  1x4028, 1x4000, I'm just making up numbers here but it's different then 200 1.95, last time I searched I didn't find anything.  Well I found ALOT but not waht I wanted..

  • 2x iMac G5: Both Logic Board and Display Problems, Warrenty?

    Hello,
Thank you for looking at this topic.
I am Jeroen from The Netherlands and proud owner of several Mac Mini's, iMac's and Macbook's. I have 2times the iMac G5, a beautiful machine, but both not working since 2 months.
I have two times the iMac G5 with iSight, both have logic board and display problems.
The first iMac doenst start at all, black screen, i hear the chime, but nothing happening. After a minute i see one horizantal white stripe but nothing happens.
The second iMac has weird horizantal stripes also, but the computer starts. It gives a finder and questionmark icon. After a while the fans go crazy.
Both these symptons are widely known on the internet. I would like to get this fixed, but prices are crazy. And because this is a common issue I would expect to get this fixed for no costs. I have contacted several Apple resellers but they shown me high prices and bad services. On these forums I've saw people in the USA who get this fixed free of charge.
Does anyone has any advice for me? I'll call apple USA this morning.
    Thankyou for ur time.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I know of no repair extension authorization which provides for the repair of either computer you describe beyond its original 12 month period of coverage. If either machine is covered by a warranty extension program provided by AppleCare, then the parts, labor or both required to replace the defective components may be offered at no charge to you. Final determination of eligibility is made at the part level by authorized Apple service providers or dealers and by the specific serial number of the machine submitted for service.
Absent a warranty extension, however, it is quite likely that you will have to pay for the repairs is you elect to have them performed.

  • Reading Contents of File and displaying output

I'm trying to read the contents of a file, then loop through the contents, perform some formatting, and display the output. Should I read the file into an array? What is the best approach? Thanks in advance.

Depends. Is it a text file? Can you format each line independent of others? If so, you can just read one line at a time (BufferedReader) and pass it to wherever the display is. If you need to work on the file as a whole, then you need read it all at once.

  • Cannot Input and Display Chinese Characters by using ODBC Applications

    Dear all,
I am trying to input the Simplified Chinese Characters in the Oracle Database Ver 9.2 running on a UNIX AIX server. The client application we are using is th MS Access 2003 running on a MS Windows XP English version SP 2 without multi-language pack. MS Office 2003 is also an English version.
    Database setting is:
    NLS_CHARACTERSET=US7ASCII
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET=AL16UTF16
The Oracle Client used is also ver 9.2 with the ODBC driver ver 9.2. I have tried the following NLS_LANG settings by chaging the registry without any NLS_LANG environment settings:
    AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHT16MSWIN950
    AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHS16GBK
    AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHT16HKSCS
    AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8
I have tied to load some Chinese Characters in by sqlload and by using the NLS_LANG AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHT16MSWIN950, AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHS16GBK and AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHT16HKSCS, they can be display perfectly in SQLPLUS. But when using the same NLS_LANGs and display in the ACCESS, only ???? are displayed.
When I tried to insert Chinese in ACCESS, the character changed to ???? again. No matter what Chinese characters I inserted by MS ACCESS, the ???? code can be dump with the binary code "03, 0f".
Are there any methods or settings I need to change to make ACCESS an application for inserting and displaying Chinese characters from the Oracle database?
I have tried to set the Non-Unicode setting in the Windows Locale setting:
    Chinese (Taiwan) (With AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHT16MSWIN950),
Chinese (Hong Kong S.A.R) (with AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHT16HKSCS) and
    Chinese (PRC) (with AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHS16GBK)
when inserting the Chinese Characters by Access. But they all failed with ???? inserted in the DB.
Please kindly advise what should be done.
    Thanks.

Are you trying to store the character data in char/varchar2 columns?
If that's the case then you have a problem, since a US7ASCII character set can only handle, well, ascii data.
If you are trying to store the data in columns of nchar datatypes, then there might be a problem with literals because literals are converted to database character set first, before conversion to national (nchar) character set. Such data loss can also happen depending on how binds or oci calls are performed.
You could use the dump() function to verify what's actually stored in a database column, without a db - client conversion happening that may distort the facts.
    Example:
    SQL> select col, dump(col, 1016) from table where some_condition;

  • Store and Display Image from Database

Now that MySQL is working (woo hoo!) with JSC, I have a couple of questions for any experts out there...
    1. How would I perform an image or other file upload from a browser?
    2. How would I retrieve and display an image from a db on a jsp page?
    Thanks for any help.

Craig, I think I have a simpler way to load an image on the page, although for the time being I'm not retrieving from a database, but from the file system. The problem is that I'm not getting the pages to load continuously with new images. At some point it apears that the session gets clogges and can not load new pictures. I'll try to include the page bean code just below. This time I'm not adding the "code" tags because I haven't being successful with that. If you have problems , please, contact me at [email protected].
The core of the code is in a couple of button_action methods.
If you need, I can give access to the http server where this is running.

  • Absolute noob needs help in referencing and displaying calculations

ok so i went through the tutorials, and decided to bite the bullet and come here. i am brand new to this, and the tutorials just confuse the hell out of me. So, all i want to do is i want to make a simple calculation of a number typed into a textfield, and display the result in a static text field if possible. Also, when i tested my program just to have a look, i couldn't type anything into the textfield. hehe, sorry but a noob is a noob :p
so basically can someone explain to me, or show me in a code sense how to set an object as a variable, such as textfield, and display result in a statictext ^^
    cheers

To use a text field (as you put it, "set an object as a variable), you would do something like
    {code}JTextField textField = new JTextField();{code}
at least in the graphics API with which I am familiar. Then you can get its data by using its getText() method, perform the calculation, and pass that to the static output textfield, potentially using your output field's setText() method
    {code}outputField.setText(result);{code}

  • How to validate VO result and display error message?

    Hi,
    I have created 2 pages:
Page 1: User to enter employee number and click 'Go' button to search (redirect to Page 2)
Page 2: To display employee details
In situation where employee is suspended, employee detail will be display as blank in Page 2.
At the same time, we would like to display error message which inform user to refer to HR Department for this scenario.
Need guidance on how to perform the validation and display error message.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Shiau Chin

    Hi Shiau,
In this case instead of redirecting to next page, throw an exception on the same page.
If you want redirect it to next page then while redirecting it to next page pass some info that can indicate that employee is suspended, get this value in Process request if it has value then throw exception else query details.

  • Not saving Display Performance...

Every time I close and then later return to a CS5 document the Display Performance returns to Typical. I have selected High Quality but when I save and close the document this is lost and I am forced into resetting it each time.
This was not the behavior of my foamier InDesign version.
Is there a control/preset I am missing? I looked in Preferences and some other areas but found nothing that seemed to set the Display Performance for the document.
    Thanks in advance.

    Look again...it's a preference setting.

  • Edit and display XML in an efficient way

    Hello,
for quite some time now I searched the internet, this forum and some other forums but I couldn't really find an answer.
My first question is, which 'technology' should one use to build an XML-Editor, i.e. how can XML-files be efficiently loaded, displayed, in a JTree or JTable, and edited (i.e. add and remove elements and save the XML-file again)?
The only 'technology' I can think of is DOM/JDOM (that's what I've read on many websites) because one needs the XML-file in memory to edit it. So SAX doesn't help here, does it? But DOM/JDOM is very inefficient because the DOM-tree has to be build and is quite big in memory, at least it's said to be, because I have XML-files which are several MB big. And actually I want to display more than one file in the application (e.g. with a JTabbedPane) so that they can be displayed and edited simultanously. But that means the tree for each file has to be in memory so, I thought this would consume to much memory. And I think it's not a good idea to write the file back when it's not displayed.
Another thing is that I want to be able to search the XML-file so, I think, it's only possible with DOM/JDOM because you can use XPath. I don't know how to search an XML-file fast with an other 'technology'.
If the XML-Schema is know, I could use JAXB, but then I don't really know how to search the XML.
Which 'technology' do the 'professional' XML-editors use?
My 2. question is, if there's maybe an library etc. that already implements editing and displaying for XML-files, which one can use in an application.
    I'd really appreciate any ideas.

What you could do is use a SAX parser to parse the XML document and build the JTree. Tree the JTree like an XMl Tree. when the user want yo save the Tree, then write the Tree out to an XML file. THere is no need to have the DOm for the XML; however, to let user have the ability to perrform XPATH, you have to write code for it.
14 MB is not a lot, so i would stick with using a JTree and have each TreeNode associated with an Element in the DOM. Parser are pretty fast..it shoiuld probably not takes more than one or two seconds to parse a 14 MB XMl file. Now, if the user have a 100+ MB file, then it may become a problem. In all, your application will probably require at least 100MB just to render the XML tree.
You can also write a class that will parse the XML document...and serialize the DOM to a file. you can break up the dOM into sevral document object (and store them in a file)..to allow you to traverse faster. Your application (class) will read in the necessary document and work with it. THere are two problem here:
    1. IO operations are very expensive. however, most of the time, the application will not be calling for the document file. It takes time for user to type than it would for the application to save user update to a file..so during this time, a Thread can be spawn to perform updating the document (synchronization required)
    2. The code is complex..you have to make sure the serialized document is updated. you have to come up with an algorithm (design) on fetching these document object, etc..
Many XML editor I see use the simplier approach..loading the whole XML document to a DOM. .. so 100MB document will require 100+ MB of memory space available..This approach is easy..fast..bt require memory.
There is a trade off..speed, easy vs memory.
It's upto you to determine which path you want to go..you can't have everything.
