Muse, Dreamweaver or Business Catalyst?

I have inherited an old Business Catalyst website that needs a lot of updating. Should I use Muse or Dreamweaver to tackle it, or stick with the BC interface?
I'm primarily a graphic designer, rather than a web developer, so would prefer a wysiwyg approach but can delve into code if necessary.
The site has lots of old material which as far as I can tell is not being displayed currently. How can I most easily discover the interdependencies between the different components, in order to clean it up?

Hi
Both the software have there own advantages. You might want to check these links

Can you let me know if its possible to import a muse site from Business catalyst in to Dreamweaver? I have published a site using Muse to Business catalyst but would like to use FTP in dreamweaver to administer and edit.

I think you could but you wouldn't like what you see in Design View.   Why do you want to do this?

  • What features does the Dreamweaver extension Business Catalyst have?

What features does the Dreamweaver extension Business Catalyst have?
I am looking to create an e-commerce website and wonder if the business catalyst extension is useful.

Thank you so much for all your help
    Just a few last things:
I have good web-designing abilities and with dreamweaver, but are there any books or extra help on how to create proffesional websites using Dreamweaver CS5.5 - as this is for my business (retail-jewellery) and I want it to be really interactive and user friendly.
Also what are the best adobe suites to create a professional e-commerce website?
Does the After Effects CS5.5 the only adobe software that lets you have moving graphics and text?

  • Why can't I set up POP/IMAP emails for my Muse website in Business Catalyst? I don't have the option 'use this service for email as well as hosting the website' under Advanced options

Why can't I set up POP/IMAP emails for my Muse website in Business Catalyst? I don't have the option 'use this service for email as well as hosting the website' under Advanced options.
Is this due to my Hosting Plan? Appreciate any answers.

Your site is a CCM site which is on a WebBasics plan (This plan does not provide hosted emails on Business Catalyst).
If you want to create email addresses on this site, you would need to setup your email server elsewhere and configure the MX records on your site to point to that external mail server.
If you want to use Business Catalyst's hosted email services you would need to use a WebBasics+ or higher siteplan. To upgrade your CCM free site, Access your site's admin area  -> Site Management -> Upgrade Now -> choose the desired site plan and billing frequency -> Add personal and credit card details -> Submit.
Please refer this article about setting up email accounts on your BC site: http://docs.businesscatalyst.com/user-manual#!/site-settings/email-users
For setting up records to point to external mail server, check out http://docs.businesscatalyst.com/user-manual#!/site-settings/email-users/creating-inboxes- for-your-users

  • Launching a Muse site on Business Catalyst,

I am very new to this and my organization is trying to launch a new site. We have it all built with Muse and on Business Catalyst now, but what do I need to do with our old site on another server first before adding the Domain name we have to Business Catalyst?

Once you add the domain to Business Catalyst and finish all the DNS delegation steps listed in the article for launching a site on BC, your old site will no longer load and users will go to the new BC site.  Your old hosting then could be discontinued with whichever vender you used. Be aware that DNS can sometimes take 24 hours to fully propogate so you should wait to make sure that things are all loading properly.  -j

  • Changeing a site from Muse to Dreamweaver in business catalyst

HI guys, I have used various forums in the past to answer many questions about web design but never have I actualy asked a queastion - I really hope someone can help me please! (I can't seem to find a simple answer anywhere!)...
    So here goes...
Being new to web design I created my very first site in Adobe Muse. My reasons for this were coming from a graphics/ print bacground the transition between the programs were really easy. I created my muse site quickly and uploaded it to business catalyst (incredibly easily) under the domain  www.keep21.co.uk.
However as I progressed in learning more about web I decided to try and move away from Muse because I wanted to have more control of the code. For this reason I started to learn Dreamweaver. Being a person who never does anything by half I decided I would start from the basics and firstly learn HTML and CSS before I looked into the program. Having gotten my head around that I created a root directory and began to re-create the site I had built in Muse by hand-coding it into Dreamweaver. I made a few changed a long the way to simplify the design and I am now happy enough to take this site live (replacing the muse site I'd already created). HOWEVER.......... I have noooooo idea how to do this and have become very confused.
Can anyone please explain how to do this please? So to re-iterate I am looking to replace the files I have on business catalyst for the site 'keep' with my new dreamweaver site.
When I started the site I created a root directory and have four basic pages within the folder (index.html, about.html,pricing.htm and contact.html) I a lso have images, templates and CSS ready to go.
    Any ideas?
    Kind regards
    Hannah

    Hi INTW,
While in Dreamweaver, Go to Site>>Manage Sites...  >>Import Business Catalyst Site
Login if prompted and then select the site from the list and choose your current root folder
A connection will be automatically setup.
If you left the download entire site checked, the current remote site folders and files will be downloaded to your root.
All you have to do is upload your new files then go to your admin and set the 'site's start page'.
That's all there is to it.
PS, id suggest you 301 redirect the old pages instead of deleting them.

  • Creating database for MUSE website using Business Catalyst.

We are building a membership site using Adobe MUSE. We are also using Business Catalyst to build the CRM customer database. We are using this as an alternative to MySQL since there is no direct connection between MySQL and MUSE. The only work around we know is to export the MUSE website to HTML. Import that HTML into Adobe DREAMWEAVER and the build the connections that way. This is time consuming and prone to errors as this does not create  a  flow in both system and data manipulation design.
We would like so home in creating, maintaining and performing searching on the database we create in Business Catalyst.

    Hi there,
As I mentioned, when a form is filled (Email is always required) then this the contact is added to the CRM.
You can not render the CRM on the front end as I think you will want. You would have to look to form web apps and display things that way.
Please note that Muse is a designer tool and has limited scope in terms of its functionality compared to building a full rich website, So you will reach certain walls with what your doing.

  • How do I edit the CSS of a Dynamic Menu with Dreamweaver and Business Catalyst.

I've watched tutorials on v2 menu module and it obviously was not made for someone just starting out in Business Catalyst. I want to edit the CSS of my Dynamic Module, preferably V1, but if I have to use version 2 I will. The problem I am running into is that the width of the menu I am trying to make is not big enough. The menu is extremely simple, I could whip it up with css and html in a matter of minutes. Just black words horizontal layout with a dark red hover color and selected state. I can change all that in Business Catalyst Site Manager just fine, however, the width of my menu when I look at it on the site, is way too small. Probably only 750px wide. I want it 1000px wide, but I haven't the faintest idea of where to find that information to change. When I add the menu module to my html code i get this: {module_menu,1534789}. How do I add or find css/html to edit the properties? I know I can add classes to the items inside the menu in the Site Manager, but where do I find the html code that shows those names?
I'm obviously missing something important and probably really easy, so I hope someone can help.
    Thanks, Evan Schmidt

I went ahead and built the navigation without a module, easier than wasting all this time trying to figure it out.
But initially my main problem was when I add the Menu module to my html in dreamweaver, this:  {module_menu,1534789} would be put in my html instead of css/html code. Now if publish my site and look at the page source, it shows the css/html, but it doesn't in dreamweaver. So is that the only way to edit the css/html code, copy the page source and replace the {module_menu,1534789} with the copied code in dreamweaver?

  • No longer have access to Dreamweaver in Business Catalyst.

Hello. I've just noticed I no longer have the option to use Dreamweaver in our Business Catalyst website. We had the website designed for us and now we manage it ie produce Pages, Web Apps, etc.
Also, I can only view it in one format where as I could at one stage change how I viewed the Dashboard. Do I need an upgrade? I haven't spoken to anyone else yet. Thought it might just be me and forgetting how to do it.
    Thanks

You cannot combine accounts at all.
Why did you create a new one?
Just change the e-mail address associated with the old one.

  • Using a Muse template in Business Catalyst

How can I use a template I created in Muse for my blog that is hosted on Adobe Business Catalyst? Creating web content in Muse is a lot easier and faster. I'm pretty familiar with Muse and BC, but I can't figure out how to do.
Currently I created a simple header and footer in BC and inserted {tag_pagecontent}. However, I'm much better at manuevering in Muse. I would also be able to be more creative in Muse.

I tried creating a page and inserting the {tag_pagecontent} in the Object>Insert HTML section. However, when that tag was on the page, the server kept throwing an error; it couldn't find the page. When I took the   {tag_pagecontent} off of the page, it found the page.

  • Muse templates for Business Catalyst

Before the recent update for mobile devices I was able to atuomatically upload templates for webapps in Business Catalyst. Now it removed all my templates and does not to upload. Does anyone have this problem?

Can you help send your Muse file to muse-support at adobe dot com with a link to this thread, and also some information on what page is set as a template, etc.? Thanks.

  • Integrate my Muse site in Business Catalyst

    Hello,
I am considering hosting my website to BC.
I created my website with Muse and I would like to use the BC's CMS features on it. Do I have to recreate the whole website with BC or I can "import" my Muse's website into BC's template ?
    Thanks
    Esther

    Hello,
Business catalyst itself is a CMS, and you can most certainly create a site on Muse and bring it to Business catalyst, by publishing it to Business catalyst, so there is no need to recreate it all in Business catalyst. However, all the editing that needs to be done, should be done in Muse. This is because any edits done to the site in Business catalyst will not reflect to the site file in Muse and there is no way to take the changes made to the site in Business catalyst back to Muse to edit or work on them.
If you don't wish to make any changes to the site from Business catalyst, you can make changes to the site in Muse and re-publish to Business catalyst, and the changes would take effect. So basically, the changes made to the site can be taken to Business catalyst, but the opposite is not true.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Parikshit.
