Muse-Smart phone-Desktop Mode
Is there a way to add a button or something that would allow the user to switch to desktop mode? I would like to show off a website on a big screen TV (with apple tv) controling it from an Iphone. I'm assuming the quality would be much lower from a phone mode. Any advice. Thanks
Just put a hyperlink to the desktop home page on your mobile site (and a link to your mobile site on your desktop site so you can get back).
Note that once you've followed a link to the desktop site on your phone, your phone will continue to navigate to desktop pages until you either follow a link that explicitly goes back to the mobile site or clear cookies in your mobile browser.

Signing up for Skype on smart phone and on desktop
I signed up for a Skype account today on my android smart phone (HTC Rezound). I entered a user name and password. Tomorrow I want to set Skype up on my desk top computer after I get cable Internet and a Logitech webcam installed. Do I have to set up another Skype account with a different user name and password for my desktop or can I use the same account set up today on my mobile phone? Thanks!
You can use the same account.
If you install Skype on your computer for the first time then you might be presented with registration form, but just cancel it and sign in with your current account

Can I transfer Tungsten E2 data to a new Palm Pre 2 smart phone?
I'm looking to upgrade from a Palm Tungsten E2 + an old cell phone to one device - a new smart phone. I have Verizon, and they offer the Palm Pre 2. The question is whether I will be able to transfer my address book and calendar (and a few other items) from my Tungsten E2 onto the new phone. I also have a 3rd party cookbook and a shopping list application that I would love to transfer too. Not holding out much hope for those though.
If anybody has any reviews of the Palm Pre 2 phone I'd love to hear those too!

When I use the URL hypertext function and type in mailto:<email address> and save it as a pdf. When bringing the pdf up in a smart phone and tapping on the link, it will bring up email to that person. Is there a FrameMaker version that also does this for a phone number and what is the text that needs to be typed in? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!
What happens when you use Marker Type: [Hypertext]
and a URI of form:

In a quick test, this survives to PDF as hypertext, gets handed to my default browser, which (being a desktop machine) throws a dialog saying, in effect "Just what am I supposed to do with this? I'm not a phone you know." My phone, on the other hand has two PDF readers (Kindle and some shovelware office ap), neither of which appear to even notice the URL (which I take to be not FM's fault).
The hand-off to email is not something that FM (or Acrobat) does per se. As far as I know PDF readers merely hand the URI to the host operating system. If the host knows what a "tel:" scheme name is supposed to do, it gets done. For a more or less complete list of scheme names, see the wiki page.
Be sure to use fully qualified international dialing numbers.
And be sure to avoid mistake 0 of FM hypertext markers: in addition to inserting the marker, it has to be within the scope of a unique Character Format applied to the text string to be made active. This tag doesn't even have to apply any visible effects, but it does have to be there, as it's how FM determines the boundaries of the hyper region. A Character Format set to Family:Default ¶ Format (and all else blank or As-Is), named "URI", would suffice. -
Header text not responsive at smart phone size & BG question
The header text doesn't fit into the view for a smart phone. I don't know how to correct that other than to change my width from 85% to 100% when at the smallest size (if that can be done). Help?

The purse (& butterfly) images have an incomplete BG color. The partial upper BG color comes from div hover which really isn't a functional div. Since the image boxes are within the body but not a separate div I don't know how to get BG color (same as footer). help?

Java Micro Edition and Smart Phone Programming
I have successfully installed Java 2 Micro Edition 8.1 on my computer, and the Micro EditionNnetbeans plugin in.
I am programming with netbeans. In order to create a new project, I need to have the
Java ME Embedded Emulator (Oracle) going on a near-enough virtual mobile phone. I can either
virtualise my phone entirely, or used a real phone plugged in.
-Is there a command line tool that comes with my version of micro edition java
which can generate a JAD file from a completed, manifest-written executable
.Jar file?

given that I know all the manufacturing details about my particular Smart Phone?It depends on how advanced the midlet will be. If standard components are used, the app should work everywhere, otherwise it need to be tested (it need to be tested always). If You need to write a midlet with Location API You first need to find a device that has this api implemented to test your application and the start writing. One importatnt thing, if a device in it's specification has written that it support Location API it doesn't have to mean that it's supported fully, some functions may not be implemented. As You can see here for instance. If You are not familiar with midlets start with a tutorial for beginners and after finishing try using more advanced APIs.

Unable to display Crystal Reports 2008 PDF output on smart phones

I'm not sure if this is the proper forum, but here goes. I am just finishing a large ASP.NET web app which makes extensive use of Crystal Reports 2008 and a CrystalReportViewer control. My users routinely e-mail the reports in PDF format. This works great, except now they tell me that when the recipient of the e-mail tries to open the PDF on an iPhone or Blackberry, it will not open. The PDF's open fine on desktop computers.
Here is the code which generates the PDF and attaches it to the e-mail msg.

What happens if you export from Crystal Reports designer?
I just tried if and BlackBerry tells me I am about to download a file that cannot be viewed on the phone. It doesn't say why though.
Going through the Platforms file it doesn't mention smart phones so it would indicate we don't support them in that format.
HTML worked but not pretty. You'll have to see what Blackberry does support. I found this one kbase article from them:

Video quality difficulties with Vimeo and Youtube sites and with smart phone
Ever since the Vimeo and Youtube sites have changed, it has been pretty difficult to get the video quality I had before. I'm using Final Cut Express to edit, Quicktime Player to resize the video to 640x480 (is too wide when saving FCE project as Quicktime movie), and Jes Deinterlacer to remove all of the jaggies that the original deinterlacing on FCE doesn't fully do (skateboarding video). I'm aware Final Cut Express 4 is a discontinued product, and Apple support over the phone can't help me. The quality is TERRIBLE on my smart phone, and used to be really good before the site changed. The Vimeo app played my videos very clear. I'm using a MyTouch smart phone. I want to know if the quality being bad on mobile is because of the sites being changed, and if there is anything I can do to get the quality I want. I've worked on this the past three weeks, and this is my final option, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Here are the steps I'm using to export (still trying more export options in Jes Deinterlacer).
Step 1: In FCE, click "File", "Export", "Quicktime Movie". In "Include:", choose "Audio and Video", "All Markers" for "Markers:", and check box "Make Movie Self-Contained".
Step 2: Open file in QT Player. Click "Window" (at the top between "View" and "Help"), and choose "Show Movie Properties". Click "Video Track", and click "Visual Settings". Change the dimensions (which are supposed to be 720x480 4:3 but the video is stretched). Enter "640 x 480" for "Scaled Size:", then same with "Offset:" Keep "Preserve Aspect Ratio" unchecked, then when finished entering numbers check it (doesn't let you uncheck it which would be best). Check the "High Quality" box if it hasn't already been checked. Close the window, and click "File", and then "Save".
Step 3: Open file in Jes Deinterlacer. In "Input", check box "Reinterlace Chroma", choose "Video range", and check "Remove Jaggies". For "Project", choose "Deinterlace" and "Use Bottom Field". Check "Adaptive", "Local", and "Filter Chroma". In "Output", choose "Video range". Choose "Export", and "Mpeg-4". For "File Format:" choose "MP4", for "Video Format:" choose "H.264", and for "Data Rate:" enter "2000" for "kbits/sec". Leave "Optimized for:" "Download" as is. Choose "640x480 VGA" for "Image Size:", and "Current" for "Frame Rate:". For "Key Frame:" choose "Every", and enter "24" for "frames". Click "Video Options". Leave the "Main" box checked, and check "Baseline" for "Restrict Profile(s) to:". Choose "Best Quality (Multi-pass)" for "Encoding Mode:". Click "Ok". Click "Audio" (since done with "Video"). For "Audio Format:" choose "AAC-LC (Music), for "Data Rate:" choose "320 kbps", for "Channels:" leave as "Stereo", for "Output Sample Rate:" choose "44.100 kHz", and for "Encoding Quality:" choose "Best". Click "Ok" (leave "Streaming" alone).First, I would do a Search on this forum for "FRAPS." There are several articles with comments on the best workflow and also settings for Import and for Export.
Next, YouTube is trobulesome. First, they re-encode everything and their specs seem to change weekly. It's tough to find out what they want on any given day. I'd go to their site and get the very latest instructions and attempt to duplicate those perfectly, knowing that they might be different tomorrow.

Sorry - I misunderstood your first post. Of course, when the cover is closed it is useful that pressing the power button switches on clock mode. However, it might also be nice to have the option that opening the cover (when not in clock mode but asleep) switches the phone straight to homescreen, so you don't have to press the power button.
Maybe the reason you can't (as far as I know) do this is that the cover doesn't appear to work by some magnetic mechanism so can actually fall open quite easily when it's out of your pocket. I also imagine it might drain the battery.
What's also a bit strange is that when I switch lockscreen in settings to 'none', then without the cover that is what I get: no lockscreen - pressing the power button goes straight to homescreen. However, with the cover, if the screen is off and you open the cover and then press the power button, you still get a lockscreen and therefore have to swipe to get to homescreen. Therefore, in general it is better to wake up the phone with the power button BEFORE you open the cover.
The cover is very thin; the outside is made of some kind of very matte faux-leather plastic that has a rather papery feel. The inside is made of a textured rubber. The quality is reasonably good.
1. The window is made of transparent plastic (which attracts finger prints).
2. The camera window is simply a hole and the the cover more than raises it past the protruding camera (which is a good thing).
Overall, the cover takes the phone from 7.7mm to almost 12mm, which is acceptable.
I bought it on alza. lenovoonline.sk has it, but for a similar price. I'm sure you can get something similar considerably cheaper on aliexpress or amazon, but I couldn't guarantee quality, functionality, delivery times and costs, etc.

If I make a site in Muse then uplaod it to Business Catalyst can I make it Smart phone compatable from Business Catalyst?

In order to make it compatible for smartphones from Business Catalyst you will have to design the pages or template for smartphones. Business Catalyst simply lets you design the templates for mobile devices separately.
The pages created in Muse will not be rendered smart phone compatible by business catalyst.
Also, that will not be backwards compatible with Muse. So, next time you publish through Muse, changes will be gone and you will have to make the changes again.

The Air Port fan icon on the menu bar is greyed out and when I click it to connect a message appears ' the wi fi network could not be joined '. The wi fi is turned on both on the router and selected as on in the screen drop down. The smart phone works perfectly with the wi fi router so it must be something to do with the Mac book. It worked fine before I took it to Italy. It does work Ok using an Ethernet cable. Could it be that some Italian IP's are being stored in the laptop and the UK IP is not being recognised? Any ideas on what could be done? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks !

Premiere Elements12 Audio sync issue with Moto X Smart Phone 1080i video
I shot some hi-def video with my Moto X Smart Phone but with the phone rotated to the portrait profile. The video plays normal and keeps that profile in Win Movie Maker and the other Win 8.1 video players.
When i opened the video in PRE-EL12 the video is landscape??? and audio out of sync. Any ideas?
I will run some tests tomorrow to see if it is only portrait shot video that has synch problems. If that's the case, I will post it here!

Set up your Premiere Elements 12 project....
1. Open program to the Expert workspace and go immediately to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings. In Change Settings, change the project preset to
NTSC
AVCHD
AVCHD 1080p60
Before you leave that area, in the last dialog there (new project dialog), make sure that you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting On This Project".
2. Then back in the Expert workspace, use Add Media/Files and Folders to get your video into Project Assets. And, from Project Assets, drag the video to the Timeline. Do you see an orange line over the Timeline content? If so, press the Render button. That will get you the best possible preview. You will know that the render is done when the orange line turns green.
3. Now, when you press the Play button of the Edit area monitor or hit the spacebar, is the audio out of sync in the playback? If so, on we go to HandBrake.

Note: Right click the thumbnail for the video in Project Assets, select Properties, and see what it shows for frame rate.
HandBrake settings for the variable to constant frame rate change will be posted if you need them.

N73 could be agood smart phone and people will fee...
I am using N73 Music addition and i have updated my phone with SW version 4.0839.42.0.1 but still I feel some improvements are still needed and it will be very good for all N73 users.
It could a very good smart phone.
Purpose of this post is to improve the N73 features and performance.
1. N73 is good mobile but it is not having good features in alarm clock like it should work for every day of week after selecting in the options and also mulitiple alarm could be able set.
2. The second major thing which every N73 user is facing that it's Fonts size of numbers is very small in Contact List.
3. When phone is in OFFLINE mode radio is not working. it could be a good idea to allow radio in offline mode also as it does not has any dependency on network like music player.
4. Once mailbox settings are done it will not allow to delete complete mails from INBOX and settings also without performing format operation.
5. When opening any application or menu it takes little bit delay.
Hope Nokia development team can improve many things if can suggest improvements.

Your phone can handle the stuff ok what it is originally made for.
Does it even support 3G?
Anyhow, alarm applications must be in overflood for this modell in Nokia Store and I would look up for a applications that can wipe your RAM memory from time to time as the memory certainely will make it slow. Suck as messages, emails and contacts are stored will gradually make this model slow. And the processor...no graphic power...
Check if you can use netqin.com app.
Apps for font managing maybe also can be found in Nokia Store?
I suppose you have done all you can, but thinking of Nokia supporting this phone with more updates... well, the phone is old and time have really out phased this one.
But for people who want their phone calls to never drop and casually send sms, the phone is even better still today than even more expensive brands...just take a look at the fruit phones problems handling the basic things...
