Music and orientation lock

as almost everyone knows the iOS 4 is coming with orientation lock and the music controls come from the bottom multi tasking bar. I was wondering if the iPod touch second generation would get the orientaion lock and music controls there too or if it will lack those features and be stuck with the old music controls.

I just upgrade and the answer appears to be no. I read else that at least in beta Apple for reasons unknown to me put this on the multitaskbar only available in newer 3G or later iPhones/iPods.

  • Volume switch and orientation lock

Just got my iPad 64GB today (sent from US to UK) - everything was packaged right, all still; sealed and safe additional packaging via FedEx - all working great apart from the volume and orientation lock - neither seems to do anything - anybody else experienced this??
With it being a US iPad, it's not realistic for me to send it back, so I will have to wait until the UK ones are launched I assume!?
Anything else I could be missing somewhere?

Just spoke to Apple support in the UK, and the woman I spoke to said that they would not support it here since it was US bought!!!?!?
I mentioned the 'international warranty' to her, and she was rather officious and told me that it did not apply?!
I realize they don't have them here yet, and now they are going to be even longer, but wha...?
I had apple repair my us bought PowerBook without problems, so why should this be any different - my instinct is that she doesn't know what she is talking about to be honest, and her only solution was that I should ship it back to the us! - I was kinda hoping they'd deal with that given it's their product that is faulty!!
    Not impressed.

  • IPod Touch and Orientation Lock?

Given no multi-tasking, does that mean no orientation lock too? Certainly that could have made it the the 8 GB iPod Touch iOS4 upgrade.

Yes, but also keep in mind, for a company that primarily wants to make money, the best way to force people to upgrade their hardware to the latest versions is to deliberately disallow upgrades .
I disagree; the best way to get customers to upgrade their hardware is to sell better hardware (as in the multitasking possible in the latest hardware). Limiting software upgrades for marketing reasons is a short sighted strategy. I will upgrade when I have a compelling reason to give up on what I have.
The best way to keep customers wanting to come back is to not do evil; helping customers get the most out of what they buy is a better long term strategy.

  • HT4085 Having sound on and orientation lock off at the same time...

When I go into the settings and change the slide switch to lock rotaion it so I can change the orientation and have the sound on. Yet when I do this the sound automatically turns off. how can I have one off and the other on at the same time?

You can read my explanation as to how this works. See the part about the task bar at the bottom of the iPad.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • I have an ipod 2g and my lock button wasn't working so i took the ipod apart and changed the button. the top half works but the bottom doesn't so i cant unlock my ipod but i can still listen to music and such

i have an ipod 2g and my lock button wasn't working so i took the ipod apart and changed the button. the top half works but the bottom doesn't so i cant unlock my ipod but i can still listen to music and such

Take it apart again and find out and fix what you messed up.
First I would try restoring the iPod. to factory settings/new iPod

  • Ok so my iPod is fine except when I am listening to music and is too it and lock the iPod and then turn it back on and listen to music again it won't register the head phones! But they have been plugged in the whole time! Just if anyone can fix it tell me

    More explanation:
I was listening to music today in class and was asked to put it away. So naturally I locked it and left the head phones in. Later on in the day icame back to it to listen to some music and I unlocked it ( it still had the head phones in it ) an was going to listen to some music but it started to play through the external speaker and the headphones were still plugged in so I unplugged and repluggedthem on and it worked! But it just keeps doing this and I keep having to unplugg and replug them in and that is really inconvenient! So I was just wondering if anyone has had the same problem and maybe you could tell me how to fix it? Btw I have a forth gen iPod just invade that helps.
    Thanks, Matt.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Try this First...
Close All Open Apps...  Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first..

  • My iPod is really slow at changing music and when I lock the screen, also when I unlocked it, it takes a while to change it's an iPod 4g White

I have a 4g iPod touch White, it is brand new and all updated and great! However, it is quite slow, it takes a while to change music and takes a while to unlocked, also I have notice when I lock it, it takes a while to make the lock sound (sad I know but very noticeable) please help :)

    - Are you also having problems with the Home button?  Maybe it is sticking a little since to take a screen shot you depress the Home and Power/Sleep buttons at the same time.
    - I have not seen your problem discussed here before.
    - I would first try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next would be to restore the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Lock screen while playing music and charging

I thought recently Apple had made a change so that the lockscreen would show your album art while playing music AND charging at the same time. Right now I'm playing music and charging, but the lock screen shows the battery charging. Is this a change or am I mis-remembering?

That is strange. I do not get album art when the phone is locked and an album is playing. All my albums have album art too. I will reboot and try again, maybe it's a bug in iOS4.1?
FIXED !!! -- I just rebooted my iPhone and now it works. Strange.

  • IPod Touch locking up on Music and Video screen

I have an 8GB iPod Touch (version 1.1.4) that recently will not display songs or video items stored on the iTouch. iTunes (7.6.1.9) shows that the iTouch has music libraries installed and currently using 1.4GB for Audio files but everytime I press the "Music" button on the iPod the music list window displays as a White background and effectively locks up the iPod until I restart the Power.
I have Reset the iTouch, I have Re-Synced the music lists and neither helped.
    Any ideas?

I had the same trouble with the ipod freezing up, then restarting on its own, then all my music was gone and none of the apps would run. I am currently syncing the ipod touch back with the pc to restore the music. I removed the app I was using when this happened (FlyTunes).
I have the 2.0.1 firmware installed and will let you know what happens.

Not if you first do a sync and have iTunes make a backup. However, if your only copy of the iTunes data is in the Touch, then you need to first copy the data to a new iTunes Library using third-party software such as Phone To Mac.
