Music app: artist appears, but no songs
Hi everyone,
On my old phone (an acer liquid something) I downloaded some songs from various artists on my SD card, which would appear in my music library. Now, on my Nokia Lumia 720, the artists of the songs I downloaded still appear in my Nokia Music app, but when I tap any of them it says there are no albums or songs to be found. This doesn't happen with my regular music & videos app (the artists simply don't appear there). I already checked my SD card twice; but I can't find those artists on there either.
I really want those artist names to disappear from the list in my Nokia Music app, as I prefer it to the standard music & videos app. I can't delete them though, because the app won't let me. Does anyone know what I can do about this?
I hope my description is clear enough to understand. Thanks in advance!
Logging out and back into store seemed to get the artist pics downloaded. Should be working straight off the bat though

IOS 5.1 update and Music App Artist sort
Since I have updated my iPhone to iOS 5.1, I have noticed something in my music app. When I select to sort my library by Artist, it now includes every artist that is included on any compilations I have. This wasn't doing this before.
Whenever I had a song designated as a "compilation" it kept it listed/indexed separately and each individual artist did not show up in the Artist list...only those with complete/multiple albums did.
Now that it's changed, it's really garbled up browsing. I have a big compilation of 80's music on my phone and each and every one-hit wonder from that decade has an entry in the Artist list...takes me forever to find anything now.
I have scoured my settings and preferences but cannot find a way to make this like it was before. Did anyone else notice that this happened. Or am I just completely blind and missing a very obvious setting that might have gotten tripped to 'default' when the update was done.No one else have this happen to them....?
If you run a restore on the iPhone, will that erase all of the apps as well? I'm thinking of doing that... -
IOS 8.3 Music App Artist Sorting
This is not a new issue with iOS 8.3 but it does seem to have gotten worse with the new update. I have noticed for a while that there is a problem with the sorting of artists in the iOS music app and I am not sure how to fix it. I have the same exact music loaded onto my iPhone 6 as my old iTouch, which is running the latest version of iOS 5, but my iTouch does not have this problem. There are many artists that are listed multiple times in iOS 8.3, but not iOS 5. Just to be sure, I did go through and make sure that the artist names were the exact same in iTunes and that did nothing. I also deleted all of my music off my phone and then put it back on and that did nothing either. It is very annoying if I want to listen to an artist and have 5 different listings of them. I have even noticed a couple of songs listed under the wrong artist, even though in iTunes the artist is labeled correctly. Is anyone else having issues with the iOS music app or has anyone fixed these?
Also, a more minor problem, my music used to keep the last song I was listening to in the "now playing" section even after I quit the music app. Now, whenever I quit the music app, the "now playing" doesn't show up when I open it again. Is there a way to get that back?Hi Dom, I think I got to the bottom of this but it took a lot of time and effort. There were a few songs that were showing up under multiple letters. For example, artist ABC was showing up under letter "A" and right in the middle of the "A"s the same group was showing up under letter "T". I had updated the metadata for ABC so it was properly showing up under the letter A but the cloud version of the song was showing up under "T" for some reason. I had to delete the ABC artist from my iPhone and then hide the cloud version of the artist/albums and then re-sync with my iTunes again.
I had to go through this process for 3-4 artists that were showing up under the wrong letter so once this was done, the scrolling is working again. It was time consuming and painful but I think it is working again.

Music App - Artist Profile Picture(s)?
G'day all. I have a question i've longed wondered of since IOS 7 came out.
Since the IOS 7 update, iTunes have set Artist 'Profile' pictures, meaning for each Artist, there is a goup photo showing who is in the band, e.g;
Pink Floyd has David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Richard Wright in a group photo.
Linkin Park has Chester Bennington, Brad Delson, Mike Shinida, Rob Bourden, Pheonix and Joe Hahn.
But there's other bands who don't have photos? Such as Aerosmith, Faith No More, Guns N' Roses, Icehouse and Johnny Cash (i have many more but yeah)
Can someone explain why bands don't have a photo? Is it they weren't a noticeable enough band to have a photo? (not that GNR and all that aren't big :|)
Cheers :)The bands you listed do have a picture in the iTunes Store. For some reason the Music app doesn't show those images. Usually when I open iTunes on my iPhone, the right artist images are shown, however not always.

I have an iphone 4s and I've had what I think is a quickly draining battery. I've tried all the usual stuff with looking at "location" services, reducing the "push" emails, etc. In the process, I decided to turn off "itunes match." Still, I notice whenever I'm in the "Music" app, not even playing music, the iphone indicates internet activity with the circular wheel. If I exit, it stops. It constantly is moving when I'm in music.
Is this normal? It seems to be draining the battery.
I've tried to re-boot, I've tried to re-store, and it still is constantly "going" even if I'm not playing music.
What is up with this?
Advice?
Thanks.More info. I did a "reset" to all settings, this left itunes match off. But, when I went into the music app, looked at the "songs" tab, all of my songs (including those "in the cloud) were there. It was then that the "internet" symbol looked like it was syncing again, even though I had "match" off. Ugh...I guess I'll need to set this up as new phone to see if I can avoid this constant draining of the battery when playing music?

hi people I just upgraded my iphone5 last night to ios8 everything went smooth until today when I tried my music apps and none of them work? Any help welcome guys you how much you need music on the iphone Cheers
Hey there Steamboat14,
It sounds like you are unable to use 3rd party music apps on your phone after you udpated to iOS 8. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article for each app affected in this way, named:
iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open
Restart the app
Close the app and open it again.
Restart your device
Turn the device off and on.
Update your device software and your apps
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
Update your apps:
Open the App Store and tap Updates.
If updates are available, tap Update All.
If asked, enter your Apple ID password. The updates will download and install.
You might need a Wi-Fi connection to update some apps.Reinstall the app
Remove the app from your device and reinstall it. Remember that deleting an app also deletes its data.
Delete the app.
Press the Home button.
Go to the App Store and download the app again.
Wait for the app to download, then open it from the Home screen.
If the download stops, you can resume it.Contact the developer
If you see the issue again, contact the developer of the app for help:
Find the app in the App Store.
Tap the app and tap Reviews.
Tap App Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,

I've had to open itunes on a new computer as my last one died and i didn't have backup. but i've noticed many of my purchased songs have not come back to my itunes to download, which means i have to buy them again. Can anyone help me? Most of my purchased music was there ready to load, but about ten weren't. thanks.
Were they originally bought with a different Apple ID?

HT204053 I just set up the cloud though music isn't appearing but all the apps are?
Any ideas?
iCloud doesn't sync you music library unless you subscribe to iTunes Match. If you're talking about the ability to download music purchased from the iTunes store, that can be done as discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519. (This doesn't require an iCloud account. The music is redownloaded from the iTunes store, not your personal iCloud account.)

iOS 8.0
I have "Sync music" unchecked on iTunes and I have cleared all my music from my iPhone.
On my Mac, on itunes (version 11.4) if you click on "on this phone", there are still remaining 70 songs...
how to clear it from itunes "on this phone" ?What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an iTunes "account." The account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use to sign in to the iTunes Store and make purchases. It is also used with iCloud. iPods (that are not iPod touch) are associated with your iTunes library, not to your Apple ID.
So, I think you probably just need to set up (or update) automatic syncing for the iPod. If it's not set up to sync those new songs, iTunes still syncs the iPod, but it syncs nothing
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. In the sidebar, the iPod appears under DEVICES, when it is connected.
Select the iPod in iTunes. There is a row of buttons, starting with Summary. Click on Music next to Summary. This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music (if it's not already checked). If your iTunes music library fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library. Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres. On the lists below, checkmark the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod. When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.
One convenient way to set this up (if you can't sync the entire iTunes music library) is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library. Name it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want). Put ALL songs that you want on the iPod on this playlist, including those new songs. Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select this playlist under Playlists. Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs). The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod. -
Music Video artists appearing under Music on iPod
I have music videos on my iPod that display just fine, and they sort just fine, but the artists that are attributed with the videos are appearing under the Music > Artists section. This is either causing duplicate entries that lead to the same list of albums, or an entry without any albums.
What's going on?It's normal. Because that video file is also an audio file, it shows up under songs, artists, etc., just as any music file would. (And the entries aren't "duplicates," if I'm understanding you correctly. The file is only on your iPod once, it's just accessible from several different menus.) If you want to express to Apple your displeasure with this feature in iTunes, Google Apple feedback iTunes and send them feedback through the form.

Music shows up in Music app on iPad, but not in iTunes library when iPad is connected.
I recently connected my iPad to iTunes, and all of my music stored on the iPad was showing up fine - I then deleted it all as I no longer wanted it on there. However, all my music still shows up on the iPad, and iTunes is even telling me that a certain amount of space is being taken up on the iPad by this music - but when I go to delete it in the 'On My iPad' tab, there is nothing listed. I have over 1,000 songs so there is no way I'm deleting them manually from the iPad. Please help with this very frustrating problem! I just want to be able to get rid of this music from the iPad.
Sounds like there may be issues with your iPod's hard drive. Perhaps it would be worth it to run a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD to make sure it is still in a healthy condition.
See this older post from another forum member turingtest2 on how to perform this test and what the resulting numbers indicate.

However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
Comparison of iPod managers
Senuti Mac Only (Currently only the beta version is iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
PodView Mac Only
PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

YamiPod Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Floola Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide -

Hi! I just bought a new laptop and have downloaded itunes and signed in. When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs. How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer? Also, will itunes still recognize my ipod on my new computer when I plug it in? I have a Dell with Windows 7 and an ipod nano, I think. Why can't I just plug my ipod in and "sync" it? Will that move my CD music into my library on itunes? Thanks for any help! Soooo confusing!!!
" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer? "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod. -
3/4 of my music is greyed out and I really want it back. Please help!
Do they play in iTunes on the computer?
Based on your reply to another post, did you restore to factory settings/new iPod (not from backup) and sync?
