Music App - Artist Profile Picture(s)?

G'day all. I have a question i've longed wondered of since IOS 7 came out.
Since the IOS 7 update, iTunes have set Artist 'Profile' pictures, meaning for each Artist, there is a goup photo showing who is in the band, e.g;
Pink Floyd has David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Richard Wright in a group photo.
Linkin Park has Chester Bennington, Brad Delson, Mike Shinida, Rob Bourden, Pheonix and Joe Hahn.
But there's other bands who don't have photos? Such as Aerosmith, Faith No More, Guns N' Roses, Icehouse and Johnny Cash (i have many more but yeah)
Can someone explain why bands don't have a photo? Is it they weren't a noticeable enough band to have a photo? (not that GNR and all that aren't big :|)
Cheers :)

The bands you listed do have a picture in the iTunes Store. For some reason the Music app doesn't show those images. Usually when I open iTunes on my iPhone, the right artist images are shown, however not always.

  • Artist profile picture gone in music app, how to get it back?

    Hi Guys,
I got an Iphone 5s 16gb space grey recently and i restored from backup after updating it from 7.1 to 7.1.2.
I noticed that from my backup before and my old phone before my 5s (4s) that in the artists view in the Music app, there were artists profile picture which im presuming are their pictures from itunes. So that's what's showing on the artists view instead of the usual album covers from the artists music. If apple didnt have a "profile picture" for a certain artist then they would just show normal album covers from that artists which is also fine.
However, after I updated and set up as new iphone (then restore from backup), the "profile pictures' from Apple are gone and the artist views are just showing album covers from the different albums that the artist have. Does that make sense? I actually quite like the Apple artist profile picture and would like for them to show up again, instead of the normal album covers. Hopefully that makes sense and any help or advice will be appreciated.
    Regards

  • IOS 5.1 update and Music App Artist sort

Since I have updated my iPhone to iOS 5.1, I have noticed something in my music app. When I select to sort my library by Artist, it now includes every artist that is included on any compilations I have. This wasn't doing this before.
Whenever I had a song designated as a "compilation" it kept it listed/indexed separately and each individual artist did not show up in the Artist list...only those with complete/multiple albums did.
Now that it's changed, it's really garbled up browsing. I have a big compilation of 80's music on my phone and each and every one-hit wonder from that decade has an entry in the Artist list...takes me forever to find anything now.
I have scoured my settings and preferences but cannot find a way to make this like it was before. Did anyone else notice that this happened. Or am I just completely blind and missing a very obvious setting that might have gotten tripped to 'default' when the update was done.

No one else have this happen to them....?
If you run a restore on the iPhone, will that erase all of the apps as well? I'm thinking of doing that...

  • IOS 8.3 Music App Artist Sorting

This is not a new issue with iOS 8.3 but it does seem to have gotten worse with the new update.  I have noticed for a while that there is a problem with the sorting of artists in the iOS music app and I am not sure how to fix it.  I have the same exact music loaded onto my iPhone 6 as my old iTouch, which is running the latest version of iOS 5, but my iTouch does not have this problem.    There are many artists that are listed multiple times in iOS 8.3, but not iOS 5.  Just to be sure, I did go through and make sure that the artist names were the exact same in iTunes and that did nothing.  I also deleted all of my music off my phone and then put it back on and that did nothing either.  It is very annoying if I want to listen to an artist and have 5 different listings of them.  I have even noticed a couple of songs listed under the wrong artist, even though in iTunes the artist is labeled correctly.  Is anyone else having issues with the iOS music app or has anyone fixed these?
Also, a more minor problem, my music used to keep the last song I was listening to in the "now playing" section even after I quit the music app.  Now, whenever I quit the music app, the "now playing" doesn't show up when I open it again.  Is there a way to get that back?

Hi Dom, I think I got to the bottom of this but it took a lot of time and effort. There were a few songs that were showing up under multiple letters. For example, artist ABC was showing up under letter "A" and right in the middle of the "A"s the same group was showing up under letter "T". I had updated the metadata for ABC so it was properly showing up under the letter A but the cloud version of the song was showing up under "T" for some reason. I had to delete the ABC artist from my iPhone and then hide the cloud version of the artist/albums and then re-sync with my iTunes again.
I had to go through this process for 3-4 artists that were showing up under the wrong letter so once this was done, the scrolling is working again. It was time consuming and painful but I think it is working again.
    Regards, Ken

  • Music app: artist appears, but no songs

    Hi everyone,
On my old phone (an acer liquid something) I downloaded some songs from various artists on my SD card, which would appear in my music library. Now, on my Nokia Lumia 720, the artists of the songs I downloaded still appear in my Nokia Music app, but when I tap any of them it says there are no albums or songs to be found. This doesn't happen with my regular music & videos app (the artists simply don't appear there). I already checked my SD card twice; but I can't find those artists on there either.
I really want those artist names to disappear from the list in my Nokia Music app, as I prefer it to the standard music & videos app. I can't delete them though, because the app won't let me. Does anyone know what I can do about this?
I hope my description is clear enough to understand. Thanks in advance!

Logging out and back into store seemed to get the artist pics downloaded. Should be working straight off the bat though

  • Album Artwork wanted in Music App - NOT Artist profile image

Right, so i've already read a bunch of threads pertaining to this issue but none have helped me so im starting my own.
I'm a hardened iphone user, and mac user in general, residing in the UK.
I recently bought an iphone 5s on O2 network and syncronised my new handset from a back up i had which was made from my old iphone 4s.
Now, im aware others experience a similar problem with the Music app in iOS7 - in that some artists show an "Artist profile picture" and others show one (of perhaps many) album artworks which are stored on the device.
This is an issue for me, here's why...
Being a huge music lover, and a creative (im a graphic designer) i digest my music library when scrolling visually through the artworks i see.
Without them, im usually highly uninterested in listening to anything as i can never decide what to put on.
Some artists profile pictures look more or less the same too, so i could be staring at 3 seperate artists who all look the same yet span completely different genres and i'll skip past every one of them because i cant remember exactly what songs i may have of theirs on my iphone.
I've read up on how people have managed to get ALL artists in their music library to display the artist profile picture instead of the album artwork, but not how they managed to get the album artwork back instead of the artist profile images.
I find this heavily annoying having just invested in a 64gb (32gb wasn't enough for my library of music) and ironically, i now don't want to listen to any of it because its so difficult to mentally register what i have in front of me, and make a choice...
    help!

I know there is a setting in iTunes but I am not sure if it applies to iOS. Especially if songs are purchased directly on iOS but you can experiment with it.
In Preferences > Store > Share details about your library with Apple

  • RIP Music App 9/17/2014

iOS8 officially made the music app terrible to use. Apple has always prided itself on Album Art and ease of use when it comes to music. IOS8 proves that Apple no longer cares about music on iOS.
No more album art for Playlists
No Album art in Control Center music pane
No change to useless Music App landscape UI
No change to Artist/Albums/Songs, still shows all songs at once
No change to iPad Music App Artists/Albums view, still shrunken IPhone UI
    No 'Up Next' feature

  • IOS 7 music app does not display artist pictures and has incorrect album art after master reset.

Strange issue here. I did the update from iOS 6 to iOS 7, after I did the update, I noticed my synced music has just a random photo of the artist / group, that seems to be downloaded from the iTunes sites, because these pictures of the artist/group is not my album artwork.
I did a master reset on my device because I wanted to start from a clean slate, and set it up as a new phone. I went through and adjusted all of my settings and synced my music back on via iTunes, now its not showing these pictures any longer, infact, the strangest issue of them all.. is now when I view artists, the album that I synced now has a complete different album artwork picture that is not related to that album.
I am at a loss, my iTunes is extremely organized, I have everything configured to be 100% accurate for track names, artist, album, and album artwork.
Anyone have any input here? It only screwed up after the reset I did. This has to be a bug or something.

SiMooew469: Thank you!  After countless wasted hours messing with this, your solution was the only one that worked!  After setting up a few phones "as new" I noticed all the artist images would appear (for those that have one) even with my Match turned on.  I could not duplicate it on my restored-from-backup iPhone5S, as I would get a mix of the images and album art, even for those artists that have profile photos on the as-new setups.  I couldn't afford to lose all my text messages, etc. that come with restoring a phone as-new, so I tried about everything else under the sun: I tried logging in-and-out of my Apple ID, toggling Match on-and-off, I even deleted iTunes_control folder using iExplorer on a Windows machine.  Nothing worked.
    Here's what finally did:
If you don't have it set this way already, toggle "Group By Album Artist" in Settings->Music. For some reason that makes a difference for some artists in your library that appear when album artist is set to "Various Artists" or something other than the track's artist.  Logout of your Apple ID.  Log in with any other Apple ID.  Open the Music app and watch all the artist images load in the Artisits tab.  Once it is done, logout of the other Apple ID and login with your regular Apple ID.  Finally, all the artist images will remain.  Those artists that do not have a profile photo with iTunes will still show album art, which is by design.  Hopefully Apple will keep updating that database.
Incidentally, it's a bit odd that those profile photos don't appear in the Artists view in iTunes 11...or am I the only one?

  • Music app won't sort albums by artist

On my iPad 3rd Gen, after the 8.0 update, the "Group By Album Artist" check box in the Settings no longer works.  It used to group the albums in the Music app by the associated Artist, but now it just alphabetizes them regardless of the artist.
    I've tried:
    1) Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    2) Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Content and Settings
    3) Manually deleting all music content, resetting iPad, reimporting music to iPad
    4) Each of the above, but allowing a full day between powering down and then back up.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, because I'd really rather not switch to a nonstandard app for this.

I am having the same issue as well with Linkin Park, M83, and Panic! At THe Disco. Itunes match on my Macbook shows all the albums and the artist pictures (when browsing through the artist tab). I just had my phone replaced a few days back and even after a fresh intsall of IOS 7.1.1 on this replacment model it still has the issue. I even set the device as a new device without iCloud back up and still iTunes match wont show the artist photos.

  • Thumbnail not showing for artist view on music app

Ever since iOS 7 (now on iOS 8.1.1), the thumbnails in the artist view of the music app on my iPhone 5 sometimes shows up but not for all artists.
I have tried restoring iPhone as new phone without restoring a backup (as I thought the backup may include the problem), restarted iTunes and iPhone, restarted MacBook on OS X Lion. Removed music, re-sync'd. Manually added album covers, re-sync'd.
Al album covers show, but artist view where a promo-type  picture of the artist is usually shown does not work for all artists.
Would have been more reliable if iOS could have simply used the latest album cover as the artist thumbnail.

It's a universal glitch with ios5. With any double album (i.e. Greatest Hits Vol.1 and Greatest Hits Vol. 2), the 2nd album is not coming up under "Artist". It's there under "Albums" and "Songs", but NOT "Artists".

  • How can the artist view pictures in music be updated in IOS 7?  My device (Ipod Touch 5th) used to have the artist pictures but when I restored it from factory default, it only used the pictures from the album.

Please help.  I have updated to the IOS 7 and there was a cool feature in the Music app wherein when you view an album artist, i think apple updates the picture of that artist from their gallery.  But when I decided to restore to factory defaults, it never came back and only uses the picture from the albums.

I have the same problem.  After a full restore my iphone 5 does not display the artist photos, but it does show the correct album covers once i go into that group.  Instead i get a grey box with diagonal writing saying the band name but no picture.

  • Music App no longer showing Artist view iOS6

In the Music app on iOS 6 I have accidentally changed the Artist column under More -> Edit to only include albums by Linkin Park. I am not sure how to revert to showing all Artists. Is there any way to reset the views? For some additional information, I am using iPhone 5 and iTunes match.

Just some additional information, I don't even see a way to change the tab names or what they include. I have no idea how I edited the Artist tab to only include linkin park. Is there anyway to edit the categories?

  • IPad music app: album count incorrect/too large in artist view

    Hello,
My problem isn't critical, but it is really annoying. My third generation iPad is showing incorrect album counts for artists under artist view in the Apple music app.
For example, I have just one Coldplay album (Viva La Vida) uploaded to my iPad, but the music app reads the following under the album/artwork in artist view: "10 songs, 15 albums".
I have turned the iPad on and off. I have done a hard reset (by holding home and power button down until iPad shuts off and then tirns on again). I have restored the iPad from a back up through iTunes. I have restored it to factory settings through iTunes and set it up as a new iPad. I have erased the iPad using the iPad "settings/general/reset/erase all contents and settings" option. I have synced the iPad with iTunes and utilized the music tab to replace the music on the iPad. I have uploaded the albums through the iTunes store. I have synced them from my computer.
NONE of these options have worked. They all result in incorrect album counts.
This seems to be a problem which surfaced after I upgraded to iOS6, but I am not sure if that is what caused the issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Cubulous

This is some sort of issue with iOS6. There are several threads (and theories) as to why this is happening. But the bottom line is, Apple needs to correct the problem.
One person indicated that the actual number of albums (by a particular artist) in his iTunes Library was the number of albums indicated on the iPad, regardless of the number of albums he chose to sync. In other words, if I have 10 albums by artist "ABC" in my iTunes Library, but chose to sync only 5 of them, the iPad would still indicate 10 albums by "ABC" (because it's looking to the iTunes Library for the album count instead of the number of actual albums that were synched to the iPad). While that theory makes sense, I found it to be somewhat untrue, at least in my case.
What I discovered is, if you rename or make a change to any of the metadata associated with a track from a particular album, then that album is duplicated when you sync, displaying the original album tracks (sans the one or two you changed) under the album name and a second version is created (using the exact same album name) but displaying only the track or tracks you modified. This in turn, increases your album count by one. So instead of showing the entry as just one album, the count now reads two for the same title. To make things even more confusing, if you go back and modify both versions of the album, successully combining the two back into one, so to speak (this can be done by renaming the artist to some other name, synching, then renaming it back to the correct artist), the album will then display correctly (just one "vesrion" showing on the iPad), but the album count remains unchanged (still indicating two). Basically, the count isn't reset, but remains incorrect.
Hopefully, I didn't confuse everyone. But it's difficult to explain. From everything I've read, it appears to be a combination of things; Album count and display, as well as creating additional album "instances" if any tracks are modified.
In any event, I hope they fix it soon. Because if you have a large music library like mine, it takes no time to really screw things up!

  • In ios 6 I could choose an artist on the music app and see all his albums in a list. Now, with ios 7, it shows all the songs from every album, making it EXTREMELY hard to see all the albums. Is there a way to minimize this view and see only the albums?

    Hello!
I need some help with the music app in ios 7...
In ios 6, I could choose an artist from the "srtists" view and it would show me all his albums as a list. Now, in ios 7, when I choose an artist, it shows me every song underneath every album, making it impossible to see al the albums at once! Is there anyway to minimize this view so I could see only the albums' titles as a list?
It is VERY annoying. I would very much appreciate any help on this!
    Thank you

    Exactly!
This is all about the experience and accessibility. I don't even mind if the new desing is beautiful or not, but if I find myself, like you, avoiding looking for my music, my experience becomes frustrating. I have about 35 albums of a single artist and I used to love going over them and choose the right thing for me, especially being on the road a lot, and now I have to think twice about even entering his name.
I really hope Apple will take those kind of things into consideration when they issue updates for ios 7, and maybe also give us back the goole search which was embeded into the spotlight search (which is really not that big of a request).
And for your 4s - get the new iphone, it's MUCH better
