Music app freezes on my iphone4

The music app freezes when I play music on my iphone 4. It seems to want to skip songs and then locks up. Then only way to get it working again is to stop my playlist, close the app and then start again. This is annoying when working out. Anyone know of a fix? I am updated to the latest itunes and iphone OS.

Updating to iOS 5.1.1 may be, as it replaces a potentially corrupt iOS on your phone. If it doesn't, then something has become corrupt in your backup and you wlll have to save as much of your data as possible (import all photos, backup all contacts, write down your email settings, etc.) and restore the phone as new. Some safety tips prior to updating your iOS:
Back up your contacts, either to iCloud, Google or another cloud service; to a supported program such as Outlook, or using an app like My Contacts Backup
Import all photos and videos to your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083)
These are the two things the most commonly go missing when people update or restore their phone.
Edit: shutting down and restarting you phone probably won't help, resetting it might (which is like rebooting your computer when something isn't working)

Music App Freezes After 4.1 Upgrade

I recently upgraded my 3GS to 4.1, and I am now experiencing an issue whereby the music app (the ipod?) would freeze if I do any other activity while playing music
For example: I'm listening to music, and a phone call arrives. After hanging up the call, the music starts to play again, but then stops and the music app freezes. Or, I am receiving and sending text messages while the music is playing, then the same thing will happen. Or, if I open another app while listening to music.
The phone itself won't freeze, but I can no longer play music, and selecting the music icon just displays a white screen. After a few seconds, the music app closes and I return to the home screen. To make the music app work again, I have to reboot the phone.
Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround?

I have the same situation here. The files in questions are the no-longer sold iTunes store file format of M4P. Most likely it will have to be addressed in a future upgrade.

Apps freezing up on iPhone4

Apps such as Candy Crush or Facebook etc. freeze up while im in the middle of playing or looking thru pictures and then just goes back to my main home page w/ all the icons, so it is very frustating as it will let me click back on the app, but I have to start all over. It just kicks me out.

Whenever I try an scroll through my genius mix, every single time I get to Urban Cross over my music app freezes up and then the whole app closes. I have tried resetting my phone and that does nothing to help. Please any help thy would get my music to work is greatly appreciated!

You could try going into settings then messages and seeing if you have it turned on. You will need to use your apple ID then, hope that helps.

On my iPad3, in the Music app, I can find my video playlists in my iTunes library, but they are all empty. This works fine on my iPhone4. Does anybody know what the problem is?

BACKGROUND: When I'm home, using my iPhone4 and MacPro/iTunes library, I've been watching video on my iPhone via the Home Sharing feature of the said devices. I have lots of videos in my iTunes library, so I've set up lots of video playlists to help organize stuff, and also to more quickly zone in on the video I want to watch from my iPhone and AppleTV. So here's the process I go through when I want to watch a video on my iPhone: go into the Music app, then hit the "More..." selection (along the bottom right of screen), then hit the "Shared" selection, then hit the "Bob's iTunes Library" selection, then hit the "Playlists" selection (along the bottom left of screen), then find/select the video playlist of choice, then find/select the video of choice, then start watching. Aside from the occasional spontaneous disconnect issue I've been having lately, it all works like a charm.
(NOTE: I tried the same procedure using the Videos app on my iPhone, but there doesn't seem to be a way to see the video playlists in this app.)
TO THE PRESENT: So when I got my shiny new iPad3 this Monday, the very first thing I did was try to replicate this process on the iPad3. Because both the Videos app and the Music app look very different on the iPad vs their iPhone counterparts, I tried this using the Videos app first, but ran into the same problem as on the iPhone - there's no way (as far as I can tell) to view/access the video playlists in this app – all I see are icons, one for each video. I then tried the Music app, and steps are identical to the iPhone version. I got as far as getting to see my playlists, and then selecting the video playlist of interest, but once there, no videos are in the playlist, only a single song(??). In fact, none of the video playlists have any video files in them (some have song tracks??).

Same problem on my ipad 2...but it works well on my iphone 4s.

When I try to play a song with the music app on my iPod Touch, some songs freeze at the beginning and my iPod touch becomes unresponsive to anything for up to twenty seconds. Help?

Hi all I'm new here.
My issue goes something like this. When I use the standard music app to play some of my music (MOST from Beatport) on about half of the songs, my iPod will freeze and become unresponsive for up to a half minute. After that, it normally brings me back to the playlist song selection that I was looking at previously. I have an iPod Touch 5th Generation that is running iOS 6.1.2. I have only three playlists, but all of the three have over 500+ unique songs on them. (I normally don't keep duplicates of songs on my iPod) I started to have this problem when I upated my old iPod Touch 4th Generation to iOS 6.0.0. Ever since I got that update, half of my songs have not and will not play.
I have tried numerous times to reset my iPod (4th and 5th) and I even re-installed everything without using a backup.
Any help as to what will fix my problem?

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

IPod freezing when scrolling down the music app?

I own a 3rd Generation iPod touch. I plugged it into my computer as usual, but when I decided to disconnect and start listening to the music I had recently put in, I realized that it wouldn't let me scroll very far. I wanted to listen to the Cream albums I had put in my iPod only to realize that I couldn't get past the A's in the list of artists, and if I attempted to go any farther down, it would freeze and crash the music app. My playlists were also wiped blank on my iPod even though they would appear just fine on iTunes when I'd plug in my iPod again.
I've tried resetting and restarting the iPod, closing the music app, and so on, but so far nothing seems to have worked. I don't want to end up having to restore my iPod, because I've a lot of music scattered across different computers and it would be a pain, to say the least, to get that and all the saved photos restored again. Is there anything else I can do?

No, I'm not talking about iTunes. The music icon is orange with a dark brown series of notes. It should be in thel lower right side of your home screen.
If it's not there, you might try Settings > General > Reset > Reset home screen layout.

try a reset hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

IOS6 bug in music app

After upgrading to iOS6 on my iPhone4 the music app no longer has a "Add all" option on the playlist/album/tracks screen.
Bug or feature?

Funny I found a LOT of posts everywhere (just google Modular) about the same thing. and it seems that it's "a feature" of the media controls in Control Centre that is not pretty well accepted by a lot of us.
Maybe it is your phone the one is not working properly or you're just writing back cause you have plenty of time.

Just do that yourself:
Go to Safari or Facebook (youtube app doesn't apply to it)
Watch a video/audio clip there
Lock your phone or whatever
open your Control Center and you HAVE to see "Safari" or "Facebook" or whatever app you last used to play media
Press on play and it will obviously not resume playing
If you are on Safari for example and still have the page with the media link active, it will show the link but not resume it; you can close the page or even close safari, and in control centre you'll see "Safari" and clicking on Play won't resume anything.
I hope you try it, and if it doesn't shows on your iPhone, then you'd better be going to an apple store and get it checked up.

please help,
every time i open my music app it fails it will try and load and then returns to the home screen it does the same things for video. it started after i synced to my laptop and put new music on it. i have been using my mac to sync my touch for about 8 months now and have never had this problem and would like it fixed.

I was having the same problem... I tried to play music by doing the double tap on the square button... it loaded the play button... I clicked on that... it then seemed to freeze but maybe 20 seconds later it loaded up one of my songs off my library... it started to play... I then was able to go to the music app and everything seems to be running well.
So try double tapping the square button.

Sometimes when i choose a track in music app, my ipod 4g freezes for a couple of seconds, and then throws me back to song selection screen. I reinstalled iOS and synced all music again, but it still happening. It is really annoying. Any ideas?...

Test to see that your backup (or something contained within) is the culprit. Make a complete backup of your device using iTunes (music, & everything). Now restore the device as NEW, not from a backup. Test the device in this configuration. Install Battery Doctor and see if the process is running with the device setup as new. Install nothing else. If the process is there with ONLY Battery Doctor installed/running, then it's likely tied to Battery Doctor (but as I said, I don't personally see that process myself). In this case, you can simply restore from the backup you just made and be where you were with your device before testing.
If the process is NOT there, then it's contained within your backup somehow. In this case, you have no choice but to reinstall everything from scratch.

Music App Problems iOS7

I am not having problems syncing music with iOS7, however I am having other issues.
For example, the app OFTEN crashes and freezes. This is a native app, should not be having this issue.
Also, why did they take away the feature where double tapping the home button brings up the music controls? Can I bring that back?

Double tap the home button and close out all the "cards" you have open by swiping them up. Make sure you don't have any apps left open. Tap the home button again when your done or just tap on the screen that's left (that can't be closed) now open the music app again it should not crash now. To pull up music controls slide from the very bottom of your screen upward this will bring control center where you can control your music player from any screen (actually better if you ask me) just have to get used to it. Hope that helps. If it doesn't I would consider doing a back up and restore by connecting your phone to iTunes and following the instructions under restore iPhone.

First, when you said all apps freeze, what do you mean, what actually happens?
I know you said you've done a reboot, but do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescribed for most glitches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
Finally, if you still see this freezing issue, Remove your Media Card from the device and leave it out, and do another reboot, same as above.
