Music as a whole

I have been putting music on one at a time. I have a big folder with mp3's in it, can and how do I do the entire folder at once?
THANKS,
JARED

Hi,
Hope you find this link useful -
Add Music, Movies, and More from My Hard Drive
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/tunes/2/#2
"If you already have digital music files (MP3, AIFF, WAV, and what have you), audiobooks (Audible—.aa—format only), and video files (any QuickTime-compatible movie file) on your hard drive, adding them to your iTunes library is easy. Simply locate the files that you want to add to iTunes and drag them (one at a time or all together) onto the Library icon in the iTunes Source list."
The trick, as shown in the screen shot is to wait until you see a green plus when you hover over the Library in iTunes.
Regards,
Colin R.

No clue what you are trying to communicate or what this has to do with using an iPhone in a Enterprise (Corporate) environment.

Home sharing on the apple TV only shows itunes purchased music, not my whole music library. I can not find any settings to fix this issue.
How do I get home sharing to see the entire library?

AppleTV 2 and 3's main icon Music section is a shambles.
There should be a Music store as there was on AppleTV1. Crazy you can't access Purchases unless subscribed to itunes Match.
As Winston says you are probably not looking in the correct place for local streaming of your music library.

  • Same music in the whole house

I have found in the forums on internet a lot of questions and answer about multi room music, with ATV or SONOS. But in those cases the users wanted in every room different music. What we would like is in the whole house the same music. Starting in the kitchen, here we can build in a set of active speakers and with a wire from our home music set we can listen to the same music. But this sounds very oldfashion. Is it somehow possible whit airport express, timecapsule and ATV?

I had been using airport express (AE) units to stream music around my house, but just joined the Sonos world. What a difference! It allows you access to iTunes, plus internet radio, and you can listen to different music wherever you have a Sonos zone set up. I have zones in the family room, kitchen and bedroom. From the Sonos controller or iPhone/iPod Touch app (I use the app), you can choose what music plays where, and easily group or ungroup zones to play the same or different music! You cannot do that with the AE set-up. Sonos uses it's own mesh network to communicate among zones, and your wifi to get updates and access the internet.
Logitech has a cheaper version, called Squeezebox. It also allows you to listen to different music around the house, but relies solely on your wifi -- the Sonos mesh network is quite impressive. The Sonos system is more expensive, but certainly has the edge over Logitech, IMHO.
I only use two ZP 90 units (connected to existing receivers) and one ZP120, connected directly to two speakers (the 120 has an amp in it). It's amazing! I have not heard the S5, which is an amp/speaker combo, but understand it's impressive.
Clearly, the easiest way to stream different or the same music around the house is Sonos or Squeezebox. Too bad Apple doesn't have that system yet!
One more thing...if you are a Slacker fan, Logitech allows you so access Slacker, but Sonos does not. You can fake it, like me, by having a computer logged into Slacker and use the line-out of the computer to the line-in of the Sonos (you just don't have controls over Slacker from the remote). I have been listening to last.fm on Sonos (free subscription) and love it...just type in an artist and listen to that artist and smilar artists.
    Good luck!

  • I have a new computer my old itunes was 6 and now I have downloaded version 11 and cannot get into my account to sync my ipod tried to upload new music and erased whole ipod

I have new laptop and downloaded itunes version 11on it tried to add music to ipod touch and it erased everything on my ipod I had version 6 I think on my old laptop don't know how to get everything back on my ipod

    Correct.
The ipod will sycn to one and only one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will indeed erase the content from the ipod.
Copy everything form your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

I am having a little issue....

  • Do you essentially have free music for a whole year with this?

I want to get itunes match bc it sounds like a good deal for downloading as much music as you want, am i right?

I want a refund so I can go to the Apple store and buy a non custom job. That way I take it in there and demonstrate the problem and get it
Just to set expectations properly, just because you buy a system from a retail Apple Store doesn't mean you automatically get higher return privileges. The same general standards vis-a-vis repair vs. replacement apply no matter whether you get your system from a local Apple Store or via the web. It's completely up to Apple, regardless of how you purchased your system, whether or not they'll replace a defective system or attempt to repair it.
Yes, a stock configuration will be eligible for the 14-day return, but that would apply whether you get the system locally or via the web, and with an opened box, a restocking fee may be applied.
As to your current situation, call Apple Tech Support and ask to speak with Customer Relations. When you get a CR rep on the line, explain the situation, including all details as to the problems (make sure you have applicable case numbers at hand), when the system has been sent in, what you've been promised and where things stand now. They may be able to help resolve the matter. But a refund is unlikely, in my experience; the highest level of resolution you're likely to get is a replacement of your exisiting system with another of the same configuration. It won't hurt to ask for a refund, of course, but don't expect one.
    Good luck.

I checked for anything either bent or broken, and as far as I know everything looks fine, though I could probably clean out the dust and dirt collected in there after a year. I could take a picture if that would help. Would being dirty inside there cause this to happen? It's one thing I guess I never thought of and probably should do.

  • ITunes duplicates whole music library

    Hi everyone,
I have just moved to a SSD to use in my Mac Mini. The drive is too small to store my iTunes library so I am using a external HDD to store the library on. I copied the whole iTunes folder to the external drive from my backup, then openned up iTunes and changed the location of my iTunes library to the location I saved the iTunes folder on the HDD. I then selected file>library>import playlist and imported the 'iTunes Library.xml" file and iTunes went to importing everything, and its still going. The thing is, iTunes has decided to create a new folder called 'Music' in the iTunes folder and copy all the music to it. This means I have an 'iTunes music' folder and a 'music' folder which both contain the same music, and take up a whole lot of hard drive space.
Is this normal behaviour? And when iTunes has finished importing everything, which folder should I delete?
    Cheers
    Tom

You don't change the location from inside iTunes.  That just changes where iTunes puts the media but not the whole collection.  Note the difference between the two procedures below (you should use the first one).

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the whole iTunes folder and all its subfolders and files intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • ITunes losing all music and won't redirect to correct folder

    Hi there,
This morning, iTunes has lost all my music. The whole library has the little exclamation mark. Using the 'Find info' comand, I can see that iTunes is looking for them in the music folder of my internal drive. However, they've always been kept on an external drive, and when I redirect iTunes to an individual track in it's correct location, and it asks me if I'd like to use the location to find the other missing files, it fails to correct the location of the rest. I am getting this message: “iTunes was able to find 1 of 18083 missing files.” Rather frustrating...
    I'm using iTunes 10, on OS 10.7.3
I have the correct iTunes media folder indicated in the advanced preferences tab.
In case it's relevant, I'm also syncing with a new iPhone 4s, which I've only had for about 3 weeks, though in terms of audio, I only sync recently added albums + podcasts.
And an additional odd behaviour that I noticed this morning was that in my iTunes Media folder, outside of the Music folder,   several artist folders had appeared, each containing an album folder and one or several songs from that album, the rest of which were all in their normal locations inside the Music folder, minus the tracks in the newly-appeared folders. All very odd.
    Thanks for any help,
    Emma

I have finally solved this issue.  Here is the solution:
    1. Open iTunes
    2. Select Music
    3. In the upper right hand corner select Albums.
    4. Under "All Albums" highlight the first album, then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, hold down the shift key and select the last album.
    5. All albums should now be selected.
    6. Place the cursor over one of the albums. Press with 2 fingers on the trackpad to bring up the menu.
    7. Select "Check All"
    8. Congratulations - no more grayed out songs and they will sync now.
    9. Go into your iPhone sync and check the songs you want to transfer and click the sync button.
I hope this helps you to resolve your issue.

  • Problem with move of iTunes music to external hard drive

My hard drive was getting full and I bought a new external drive and moved iTunes to it carefully following directions on ilounge and Apple support.
    1. I first hit consolidate library and only moved the iTunes music file (as per the iLounge directions), then went to Preferences and changed the location of the music file to the external drive.
    2. Itunes did not find the paths on the external drive.
    3. I then tried to follow the Apple directions and here is when this went wrong. By hitting create new folder and consolidate music again, the whole music folder copied again to the eHD resulting in 10k duplicates.
    4. However, this time the songs all worked, so now I had a duplicate problem. By checking these discussions I found an easy way to get rid of the duplicates by sorting by Date (meaning move date- the second time I copied the music file the move dates in all the songs was yesterday, and this was the link where all the songs worked.
    5. I thought all was well after checking the music played and even testing remote on my phone, turning off the computer, restarting and confirming iTunes launched fine. Instead of following excellent advice many of you have posted on waiting a few days to check everything works before deleting the old music folder, as my internal HD was completely full I deleted it opening up 100GB of space.
    6. Of course, I did not check everything- my playlists were all gone. The iTunes Library files are now both on the EHD and on the iHD but I cannot recreate the playlists. I suspect the playlists were all linked to the original music files copied the first time with the broken paths.
    7. At this point is there any advice to recovering the playlists- I have them on an ipod and iphone. Worst case I will need to manually the Playlists.
    8. Learning from my mistakes, NEVER, delete the original music folder till you are sure everythng works and even then wait a few days so you will have an opportunity to properly check everything.
    9. Finally, I am at a loss to understand why the iLounge instructions did not work for me- only copying the music files to the eHD, leaving the Library files on the iHD, and changing Preferences to the new music file location.
    thanks

    HI Frostyfrog
CHeck out iTunes Match which has an annual fee of £21 or thereabouts. You can store a maximum of 25,000 songs there and they all become available on your other kit, iPhone, iPad and iPod. I know it works as I have over 23000 songs uploaded of which only a few we're bought through iTunes.
it works by comparing your music to the whole iTunes music dadata base so you access the same tunes that you could get from iTunes. If you have obscure stuff, it uploads your own music to the cloud as a copy.
I Find it incredible that on my iPhone with its 16gb memory I can view almost 200 gb of music (ie my 23000 songs) and play any of them. Anything I add to iTunes becomes available via the cloud fairly quickly from a few minutes or a little longer if adding a lot.
The first time you use it it will take quite a while to match your music if you have a lot, but after that it is all automatic. Read the stuff on the apple site. Your PC needs to be at least running Vista. I recommend it and at less than 50p a week it's good value.
    Good luck

  • How do I move my iTunes Music folder to a new hard drive?

I've installed a new drive in my Mac Pro. I now have to move my iTunes Music folder into the new drive and junk the old one. I know that I can use iTunes/File/Add to Library menu item to get iTunes to locate the new Music Library; however, this is going to leave me with two entries for every track, one good and one broken after I remove the old drive. I think I should junk the old library and then have iTunes rebuild it from the Add To command... what is the best way to avoid problems? Select All, move to Trash and then locate and add them back?  Expert advice appreciated.

No, it's simpler, epecially if iTunes manages your music for you (default).

  • After itunes 11 update, my music is getting continually corrupted.

So the other day, I updated Itunes to 11.0.2 on Win7. After rebooting, I open iTunes and for some reason, it wanted to scan my entire computer for 'music files' as if I had no library (lies). I let it do it's thing since I had no other option and it found my music plus a whole bunch of crap from a couple of games. Spent the rest of the day deleting these stupid 5 second sound bites out of my library and went to go back to listen to my music. Play the first song and, bam, corrupted; skipped three times in the song and then to the next and so on. After restarting the program, I discovered that pretty much everything in my 'library' was corrupted. I went through with Mp3val and fixed most songs and thought my troubles were over. Turned on my computer today to find my favorite album by Jackson Browne was missing its cover art and the songs, corrupted. A lot of music I have was from my parents's collection and I can't just take a weekend and fly halfway across the country to get them to reload the files. I almost want to say that when the first song plays and is corrupted, I think the corruption spreads to other files that were not affected but play after it.
I have seen several others, while searching google for similar stories and solutions, state that iTunes can pretty much screw its self up. I am currently scanning my computer for any maleware/virus that might have any chance of causing this but I want to say that this is an iTunes issue as it has never happened before.
Other things I think I should mention:
    OS: win7
    Processor: AMD FX 64x
GFX: Radeon 6870 with Catalyst 13.1
    - I recently installed SimCity so who knows if that is having an effect.
    - Graphical slider in the player that shows the song's progress no longer updates and only does so when I pause the song.
    - Song information at the bottom of the screen states '1 of 237 albums, 0 seconds, zero KB' for every song played
    - Been having the usual Silverlight 5 problems with Netflix (again doesn't seem related but who knows)
The only proper solution I can think of is completly wiping itunes off my PC (registry, uninstall, etc.) and try again. The only issue with that is that I feel that itunes will scan again and just further corrupt my songs so I am against that.
Also as I was writing this I went back to one of my fixed albums using mp3val (as a test to see if it was still corrupted) and as I finished reviewing and proofing, it played a corrupted song. Same thing happened where the rest of the songs after it were corrupted but up to the song everything played fine. I played the album on Windows Media player and one of the songs shows sings of corruption. I left the desk for a second due to cat, came back and the next song was playing fine instead of acting up like itunes and skipping through the other songs after the first one. After listening to the album again to find the song, I can't find the specific file becuase none of them show signs of corruption that I previously heard.
My ultimate decision is quickly coming to just stop using itunes and move on to WMP now that it doesn't suck.  I would love to know if anyone out there has a solution so I don't have to convert my whole library back to a standard mp3 instead of this m4a corrupting format.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Obviously, the songs did not sync properly to the iPad.
Try deleting the songs and then sync them back again. You can delete them by unsyncing them, which would entail unchecking the songs, playlists, albums, etc. in iTunes and follow that with a sync, or you might be able to delete them directly from the iPad by swiping across the songs in the songs tab of the music app from right to left to get the red delete button.
