Music bitrate in computer folder versus iPod

Is it possible to use the Apple lossless or native CD format in my iTunes folder, and then sync a lower bitrate on my iPod (120gb classic)? I have approximately 250gb in my library and obviously cannot sync the entire folder with my iPod.

If you have iTunes 9.1, yes. Connect your iPod, select it in the iTunes sidebar, and click on the Summary tab. There should be a checkbox setting for "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps AAC". That will convert your tracks on the fly and sync them to your iPod. This may take a long time, several hours or more depending on how fast your computer can process.
Regards.
