Music CDs are being rejected by my PowerBook G4

I have the latest OS version, the latest iTunes, etc. I never had problems loading and playing music CDs in the past, or uploading music from my CDs to iTunes.
Last week I bought some new CDs and all are being rejected by my Mac--they make a lot of noise trying to load, and then spit back out. I tried my old music CDs, one's I have previoulsy played with no problem and loaded, and they too will not work.
The CD drive does not seem to be the problem, as data disks, sofware disks, and BURNED music CDs WILL play with no problem
Cany anyone shed some light on this? What is going on? I'd think it was the copy protect thing on some CDs, but even my old music CDs are not being accepted into my compute. Has iTunes done something to reject music CDs?
Help!

Thanks for reposting the link.
Unfortunately, that doesn't address my problem. (Fortunately, however, my problem is not as severe as the one in that link!)
My problem manifests itself as some CD's not mounting: the Superdrive spins and makes noises for a while, then ejects the CD.
As far as I can tell, this happens only with one company, and only/primarily with more recent CD's. (Not sure about this, but I think some older CD's from that company that used to work no longer work after I inserted a fairly recent CD.)
I am sure it is related to some copy-protection scheme, but I can't find any files (visible or invisible) that the CD deposited on my Mac.
Any suggestions on what to look for?
Thanks.

  • Since changing to os5, some of my emails are being rejected by trend micro software

Since I have strated using os5, i have noted that some emails that i send from the phone are being rejected by Trend Micro Systems Anti Virus softeware.
These are the same email adresses that used previously with out an issue before the upgrade.

    OK, I did the following:
I read and then deleted ALL the messages waiting for me at the Tiscali server using their webmail option.
This left my Tiscali in box completely empty.
To be on the safe side, I deleted all my Email Accounts on my Mac and loaded just one, the [email protected] - i.e. my Tiscali email address. I also reset and then changed the password.
I then got Tiscali tech support to reset my mailbox.
    I then crossed my fingers!
I then sent myself a number of test emails, some from the Tiscali server webmail option, some from my PC laptop and some from Mail on my beloved Mac.
I can now confirm that I can send emails from my Mac using Mail but cannot download any. All that happens when I click "Get Mail" on Mail is that the program looks at the pop3 mail server at Tiscali but doesn't see the test emails that are waiting there for me to download.
    Any suggestions???
God, Tiscali Tech Support are completely rubbish!

  • New version of ITunes installed - Not all music files are being recognized

My system crashed and Itunes was automatically 're-installed.' My music is located on my external hard drive. When I reconnected my music to ITunes about 3000 music files did not appear in my library. Before the re-install all music files were available in the library.
The music files are all still located on my external hard drive. Strangely, when I copied my music on my external hard drive to create yet another back up of my music many music files were missing on the copy. The missing files were a combination of downloaded music from a cd and purchased, no trend.
I welcome any advice on how I can get 1. my ITunes library to read all of my music files (which are in ITunes format) and 2. how do I copy all of my music on my external hard drive to make a safe back up (I-tunes back up is not an option because not all of the music appears in my library)
    Thanks for your help

  • Which blank CDs are compatilbe with my 887MHz Powerbook?

I bought new blank CDs from TDK. Toast gives me an error message before writing. I think the TDK CDs aren't compatible with the old drive. I'm searching for a list of compatible CDs? I haven't found one, yet. Do anyone knows a website? Thanks

    Yes...
DVD's use smaller "pits and lands" or physical data bits on the acutal disc than CD's do. That's how they can store more data than CD's.

  • Anonymous binds are being rejected

After more tinkering around with ISW, it seems I finally got it working, but it broke some very critical functionality - Anonymous binds !!!
None of the user password hashes have changed, but only people who reset their password after ISW install can bind anonymously. I'm tring to dig through
various new ACLs that were put in place by ISW, but so far I don't see what's restricting those binds. I rerun idsconfig to make sure both proxy and anonymous connections are accepted, but no luck.
Please HELP !!! This is really critical.

I think that there is something incorrect with your expectations or the description of your problem...
There is no such thing as a relationship with a User or its passwords and Anonymous Bind. An anonymous bind is a Bind request with no User, and thus there is authentication to take place.
A user does not bind anonymously.
A client can send an anonymous bind, but it does involve the user.
    Regards.

For No. 2, I m seeing that the DNS name is not resolving. How can I be sure this issue is not from my side ?
For No. 3, It seems to be some problem from that domain itself, and even mails from outlook.com are being rejected.
Is there any best practice that I am missing out on ?

  • Messaging Server 3.5: user authentications being rejected

Using Messaging Server 3.5, user authentications are being
    rejected. Why?
    <P>
Messaging 3.5.2 fixes the following bug. In 3.5, the host name that
is set in the client is compared to the mailHost field in the
directory. If the client config is different from the entry in
the directory, the authentication fails. In 3.5.2, the AUTH
command compares the uid of the client (which is guaranteed to be
unique) and does not compare the host name to any value in the
    directory.

  • Superdrive ejects music cds

Saw a few other posts about similar superdrive issues...
Music cds will not mount and are immediately ejected. So far, it appears that DVDs play fine and DATA cd & dvds are also ok. Burned music cds are hit or miss. Every once in a while a music cd will work. Sometimes a disk that has previously not worked.
the "genius" told me to archive and install (which seems the standard advice). i'd rather not.
seems other folks are of the mind that the problem is hardware. i'm not sure..
i have a hunch it has something to do with itunes.

I too, have the same problem on both my personal and office Mac book pros. They are both running Mac OS X 10.5 with the latest updates. DVDs work perfectly, as do blank CDs. I can even write an audio CD with itunes and it mounts perfectly. If I try and put any other commercial audio CD in the drive it will just eject it after failing to read it. I have tried many solutions, including running disk utility, cleaning the lens and resetting the PRAM.
We have other MBPs in the office that are running Mac OS X 10.4 and they all work fine even with the latest itunes (8.1) so I am convinced it is a problem with the system software. It could just be a conflict with itunes software and the OS, but surely Apple wiould have checked this?...
Does anyone know if Apple are aware of this problem or if they are currently working on an update to fix it?

  • CDs Are Rejected When Ripped Into iTunes

Why do music CDs get rejected when I rip into iTunes. Under Import Settings, I turned off "Use error correctioin when reading Audio CDs", which helped with some CDs. I also cleaned each rejected CD with soap and water.... what else can I try?

There are various reasons some CDs don't rip, but the potential solutions are:
    1.  Rip the CD with another program on the same CD, such as Windows Media Player, and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.
    2.  Rip the CD on another computer and bring the MP3s across on a flash drive.
    3.  Use a more powerful rippping program, such as AudioGrabber or dbPowerAmp.

All music, etc. CDs are rejected.  But DVDs work and the CDs that came with the computer work just fine.  I've tried deleting various things:CD info.cidb: Extensions.mkext; kernelcache....135BDD   Nothing helped at all.
