Music doesn't play on iPod

Since my computer wasn't recognizing my iPod, I put it into disk mode and it immediately showed up on iTunes and worked like it was supposed to. So, I proceeded to transfer all of my music over (while still in disk mode) and it seemed to successfully sync. I unplugged it, and since it was stuck in disk mode, restarted my iPod. All my music and album artwork showed up on my iPod, but when I click "play" the music timer stays at 0:00 even though the top right corner has the "play" icon. I have tried playing the songs on my computer and they work. Additionally they are all mp3 files which are surely supported by iPods (not to mention my previous nano could play the same library of songs). Earphones are plugged in... I tried restarting, restoring... different computers... ports... 5R's... etc... Any advice?

Yes, that's exactly what I did. I forced it into disk mode, and restored it.
You must not have successfully restored it then since restoring it reformats and resets everything and that includes the iPod then going through a longish reboot where it will turn off for a few seconds then start up again. If your iPod simply stayed in Disk Mode, then it didn't get restored.
Perhaps you can try restoring it on another computer and see if that works?

My music doesn't play in the order its supposed to.  The songs are listed in the correct order in the playlist and when I choose the first song in my playlist, it plays, but then every song after that is played randomly.  Its like its shuffling.  How do I fix this?

    Hi
Please describe How You go from PPT to iDVD. Via iMovie ?
If so - then convert Your .wma file to .aiff (same kHz) and use this in iMovie instead. (no .mp3 either)

  • The music doesn't play at all....

The music doesn't play at all. I've reset it over and over, and NOTHING.. It stays on the song for a second or two, then skips to the next one, and continue this process with not a sound.... Any Help????

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Purchased music won't play on ipod!  Help!

    Hi,
I've posted this before, but not found a good response that solves the problem. Thought I'd try again - any help would be appreciated.
My original ipod died just b/4 the warranty expired, so I got a new one from the apple store. Now, my ipod will not always play music I've purchased from the itunes store. There are two "fixes" I've found for this. The first is to plug my ipod into my computer and let it update. This seems to restore the files (?) but only works for a day or two, then the ipod skips right over the purchased files. The song file info (artist, song title, album, etc...) pops up on the screen for a second or two, but then goes right to the next file.
A better fix was to drag the "itunes music" folder from the finder into the library view of itunes on my desktop. This seemed to be a better "update" and worked for several months, but I recently noticed that once again, my ipod is simply skipping over any purchased music.
As you can imagine, this is quite frustrating, and also, since I've purchased a fair amount of music from itunes that I can't reliably listen to, very expensive!
I've noticed that in my "itunes music" folder in the finder of my computer any purchased music has the file extension ".m4p" whereas any music that I have ripped from a CD that I already owned has the file extension ".m4a". Is it possible that this has something to do with it?
My guess is that because I'm on my second ipod, the songs are protected somehow so that they "lock" after a certain amount of time if the file doesn't recognize the ipod device? Does this make sense? Does apple protect these files so that you can't permanently share them with other peoples' ipods? That would seem to be a fair thing, but I can't listen to them on my own ipod! I've been to the local apple store several times, and they have no idea what's going on.
I have a mac G4, and a 5th gen ipod (20G). All the software updates are current.
Again, any help would be appreciated.

"oh, and i also downloaded the free song of the week to see if downloading something new would help it out. nope."
Into a new user account with a separate iTunes library? That's the idea.
    1. Deauthorize the computer.
    2. Create a new user in the system.
    3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
    4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
    5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
    6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.

  • IOS5 Music doesn't play the right songs!

Newly upgraded, and when I use what used to be called iPod (now Music) the list of songs shows, but tapping certain songs doesn't play them, it plays either nothing at all, or the wrong song. Very chaotic!

The database files on the iPad have probably become corrupted. You will have to remove the songs from the iPad and re-sync them from iTunes to re-write a fresh database file. It can easily be done by unchecking "Sync Music" in the iPad's sync settings in iTunes, sync then re-check it.

  • My space mobile account. Music doesn't play

I thought the 'myspace mobile' would somehow have got round the problem that if you go to myspace via safari the little plug in player flash player or real player or whatever isn't installed so the music can't play.
Yet even with the 'myspace mobile' account it still doesn't play !
The whole point about myspace is the emphasis is on music so it's useless if te music can't play on the iphone. Anyone know a way to make the music play or is Steve Jobs too obsessed with people only ever being allowed to hear anything through itunes ?

I think that that is the way it is. My friend has an iPhone and I have an iPod Touch, and both of them don't allow you to play music. Even if you have a myspace mobile! Sorry, but I think us myspace users have to wait until an update comes out for the current app.

  • Music doesn't play on one side

I have an iPod touch 2nd generation for about a year and a half. Recently when I play music through headphones the left side cuts out or doesn't play at all, I've noticed it has to do with the positioning of the headphone plug in the iPod. The headphones aren't the problem as I have tested them with other iPods. I was wondering if this is a common problem and if there was any easy fix.

I have the EXACT same problem with my iPod Touch generation 2. The left side of the headphones doesn't work at all, while the right side works perfectly. I have to maneuver AND hold the it in a certain way to hear it in both ears and it's very annoying!
I'm gonna have to send it into these people for $58 bucks cause I don't think I could do it myself.
I was just gonna make a topic about this until I saw this one. And thank God I did! Same thing happened to my cousin's iTouch and she doesn't even use it half the time thanks to this problem. It's a shame really.

  • Purchased music doesn't play when battery isn't fully charge

When the mini is fully charges everything plays correctly. However if the batter is anything but completely charged it doesn't play the purchased music. I don't know why it does this, other friends with ipod's do not have this type of problem. If there some setting that needs to be adjusted?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
See if resettting your iPod rectifies the problem...

  • Music album cover images and track titles show on iPhone 4s but music doesn't play - any ideas?

I am a Young at Heart Senior, new to iPhone 4s, have an old creaking pc with Windows XP Home.....but plan to enter the real world any day soon by buying a new Mac!
Here is my problem, I purchased an album on iTunes and mistakenly started to sync it to my phone, (although I don't have iCloud loaded on my pc). I stopped it mid download and later noticed that the total track numbers were showing as a red number above the "more" button as if they were waiting to complete the download. It stayed there while I thought about it for a few days, but when I click the Album button all the tracks are listed.
Now to the funny part.....when I click on a track or indeed any of them, it doesn't play a sound...but the progress bar above moves as if "now playing".
So, I thought.... no problem, I would connect the phone up to iTunes and delete the tracks....but when I do so, this album and none of it's track titles show in my music list for the phone......weird.
So, I have a large album with titles only on my phone, no music behind the titles (which, incidentally, is rubbish anyway) and I can't get rid of it off my phone, any of you young whizzy iPhoners have any ideas how to clear it off???
I did think I might just Restore my phone, but wondered whether downloading all my stuff from iCloud would still include the dreaded  "Now That's What I Call Christmas" album, which I only purchased in late 2011 to play at a seniors Xmas party...........you live and learn!
You will guess from my ramblings that I am not at all techy, but consider myself willing to learn and apart from this hiccup........I luuuurve my iPhone!

If you have all your music on the cmputer then i would connect up my phone uncheck the Sync Music option and apply.
This should take all the music off your phone .Then you can resync the music back on to it.
If this doesn't work maybe a restore to factory settings and start from scratch is the way to go

  • Purchased music won't play on ipod 5g 60gb - need help!

    hello everyone,
i've been looking for help all over the internet for hours and hours, and i have yet to find an answer. i wrote the whole sequence of events down so everyone will know which troubleshooting steps i have already gone through.
i have an ipod video, 5g, 60gb that i got in december. it's been great, up until i needed to upgrade my operating system to windows xp pro (from xp home edition). i backed up everything onto dvds, proceeded to install the new os (even gave my music it's own partition, now it feels all special and lovely and whatnot ), and reloaded itunes, got my music back on like before. then, i proceeded to install my ipod software, got the latest updates (version 1.1.1 for ipod video), and this is where i ran into problems.
prior to using itunes to install my music, i noticed a few glitches with version 1.1.1 of the ipod updater. some of my music files would show the correct artwork when normally playing the music, but if i cycled through to the larger picture of the album artwork, almost every item on my ipod showed a picture of a podcast i am subscribed to. seeing i've spent hours putting in correct artwork for thousands of songs, this irked me.
after getting all my music straight on my computer and made any changes i needed to make, i hooked my ipod up and updated with itunes. due to the new installation of windows, it had to wipe everything, and then redownload everything to my ipod.
i then noticed that not only my artwork was still screwy, but my purchased music didn't play any longer either. all of the purchased songs and videos skip through after about a couple seconds, but i did notice it did increase my play counts upon further updates. the songs play fine on my computer, no issues. and i have tried the deauthorize/reauthorize process as well, with no success.
after researching this issue a bit, i decided to follow the 5 r's. even the "restore" r, and then reloaded everything back on my ipod. now, my artwork is back like normal, which i am happy about. however, purchased music still has the same behavior. even gave the deauthorize/reauthorize process another whirl. while i could easily burn those songs to a cd and then rip them to mp3 to make them play, this still wouldn't fix my purchased video issues, leaving me right back at square one.
oh, and i also downloaded the free song of the week to see if downloading something new would help it out. nope.
i also downloaded anapod explorer to see if that would give any light onto the situation. it shows the purchased files are on my ipod, but when i disconnect from the program, it tells me "you must download a file from iTMS in order to play protected music," a step which i had already done with the free song of the week.
i'm just wondering if i should try downgrading my ipod firmware, if anyone has had the same problems, or if anyone could offer any helpful advice? i would greatly appreciate it!

  • Music plays - Music doesn't play ?

iTunes 10 library on external HD, wireless, OS 10.6.4,
I have AirTunes working and listen to music on my external speakers. Sometimes the music moves to the next song in a list and plays but no sound. If I double click the song it starts over and plays with sound. I might get 3-4 tunes and it will do it again.
Any ideas on what's happening and how to fix it so my music can play ALL the time?
I've done restarts of the modem, Airports and computer. I've repaired preferences and turned off Bluetooth but I rarely get more than 3-4 songs to play before all goes silent yet the song advances as if playing. Never ending issue.
    Thanks - Roger

Question. When I plug in my headphones, the music plays. But when I try to play it without headphones, it doesn't really play. Sometimes it doesn't play at all. Other times, it won't play the first 20 seconds and then only plays five seconds. The songs are downloaded not streaming thru google play. How do I fix this? I've only had the phone 1 month.

  • When I open a web page I've built on my computer, the music doesn't play. It will play if I open it in IE.

I build web pages on my computer and before I updated Firefox I could hear the music when I opened the page. Since I updated Firefox the music will not play. If I open the page in IE the music plays fine. When I go to my website on the internet, the music plays fine. It only happens when I open a page on my computer. I have Windows XP. I have downloaded all the newer plugins but nothing helps.

You need to specify a MIME type attribute.<br />
Otherwise Firefox doesn't know which plugin to use.<br />
Using <b>type="application/x-mplayer2"</b> will use the Windows Media player.
