Music doesn't show up on my new computer

I got a new computer. When I tethered my ipod to it, only some of the music copied. Then when I sync it, it won't copy my itunes music back to my ipod. Yes I have all the right things checked to do this properly. Have been on the apple community researching much of this & come up with nothing. Do I have to pay to have all my purchase downloaded onto my computer. I don't mind (I really do) copying all my cd's back onto my computer, but I'm upset that my purchases from itunes is lost. I would like to be able to download my purchases from itunes. How do I do this?

Copy everything form your old computer, or yiour backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?

There is a difference between your phone SOFTWARE being up to date and your phone being SYNCED. Plug it into your computer and sync it. This should put everything on your phone.

Okay, so I threw out my old computer because it had a virus and it cannot be repaired. All my music was stored in it but I have it all in my ipod touch. The guy at att told me that icloud would sync everything i had in my notes, calendar, and text messages to my new phone, but it only synced some of my notes, none of my messages, or calendar info.

Your music will only be where you put it. It will not magically appear on a new computer.

Unfortunately, unless you have a backup and can restore the iTunes library to the new computer, you are stuck with the current state of the iPod. This is one of those things that makes doing backups so important.
Unless your music is all purchased from iTunes (not from your own CD's that you imported into iTunes and then downloaded to the iPod), you will be able to re-download all your iTunes store music back to the iPod when you install iTunes on the new computer. When you first attach the iPod to the new computer and new iTunes the first time it will tell you that this iPod is synced with another iTunes library and let you initialize the iPod (which will erase everything on the iPod - so don't do this unless you don't care about the stuff on the iPod now).
I've seen 3rd party apps in the past that will let you copy music/content from iPod to computer and bypass iTunes, but not sure if they still exist as this was several years ago.

ITunes, music files from external dr F to new computer dr C... problems?

I currently have a setup with an older computer and external hard drive, but will be getting a new computer in the near future. That is to say, I have not yet encountered a problem, but am anticipating one.
As it is, iTunes is installed on the old computer, and the library of songs and videos is all on the external hard drive.
I will be wanting to install iTunes on the new computer, and put the entire library on that computer as well.
I understand that moving a library between computers can be fairly simple, just as long as you keep the path the same. I expect that moving everything from C:\Program Files\iTunes on one computer to C:\Program Files\iTunes to a new computer would be quite easy. However, since the library currently points to files on drive F, the external harddrive, I am wondering if there will be a problem when I dump my library onto the new computer's drive C? If so, how can I get around this?
I'll try saying it another way;
currently, my directories are like so:
iTunes Folder - C:\Program Files\iTunes
Library - F:\iPod
and what I want, when I get a new computer:
iTunes Folder - C:\Program Files\iTunes
Library - C:\Program Files\iTunes\library

First of all, about the moving the 'program files\itunes' directly: don't do it. Install iTunes properly.
Then do this:
Copy the contents of 'iTunes Music' within My Music to the same location on the new computer.
Then connect the external drive and start up iTunes. It should appear identical to the way it did on the old computer.
Then use these directions to move them to My Music or anywhere else you want:

If your backup copy of your computer was not stolen, then use it to put everything back.
Otherwise, authorize your computer for your itunes account, connect iphone, do not sync, Click: File>Transfer Purchases
This will transfer itunes purchases from the iphone to the computer.
Enter at least one unique contact and calendar entry on the new computer. When you first sync, then you should get the option to merge the data.

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
