music drops when streaming to airport express

Welcome to the discussions forum divonka.
I realize those documents refer to OS X, but I'd suggest your problem is similar. Try disabling your Windows firewall. If that works, find a way to open UDP port 5353 as explained in this document. Hope it helps!

  • Error -15000 when streaming to AirPort Express base stations

I have the latest iTunes 8.0.2
The firmware updated to the latest in AirPort Express
    PC: Windowds XP, SP2
When I try to stream music to AirPort Express from Itunes I get Error -15000
I have tried everything according to the support pages with no success. In some support pages the solution is only for Mac. How do I solve this problem for PC with Windows XP?

  • Error -3256 or -15000 when streaming to AirPort Express base stations using

There's an article found concerning this error; itunes directly links to it when the error occurs: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2278
In the article, the last steps are:
    10. Choose the radio button "Set access for specific services and applications."
    11. Close the Security window.
What's missing there is to add the itunes application and the airport application to the list shown in step 10. I added both mentioned apps and everything worked fine.
    Good luck, folks!

My topic is just a hint how to solve the problem.

  • Can I stream music to apple tv and airport express at the same time?

Does anyone know if I can stream music to both AppleTV and Airport Express (speakers) at the same time?
I have a TV in my living room and external speakers on my deck and want to stream music to both at the same time so I have the same music playing in both rooms - but I can't get an answer on IF I can do both at the same time or it I'd have to select one over the other?
    Anyone know?

yes - the built-in music app allows to select one speaker only at the same time.
now i've found the WHAALE Multiroom Player App (http://www.whaale.com) - and it sends directly from the iOS Device to my 6 AirPlay speakers. One of them is an Apple TV...
all "in sync" and without any special hardware and additional software.
And i am able to stream different songs to different rooms...
    Just AirPlay speakers - wifi router - WHAALE -> that's easy :-)

  • HT4437 is it possible to stream music other the iTunes to airport express? i.e. internet radio ?

is it possible to stream music from i mac to  airport express other than listening to itunes?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately, you can only stream content from iTunes from your iMac to the Apple TV. However, saying that both iTunes on your computer and your Apple TV itself have a large selection of Internet radio stations.

  • Coding audio streams to Airport Express?

Not even sure where to post this question, so my apologies if this is too far off topic.
I'm very curious about the audio coding that happens when streaming music from iTunes to an Airport Express, or, a 2nd gen AppleTV? Is there any additional code-decode going on when streaming? Playing a 44.1 kHz .wav file, uncompressed, and capture that waveform at the electrical out of Airport Express... will it be identical to the original .wav file (ignoring some minor D/A artifacts)??
    Many thanks in advance.

Can you reference a link or 2 where I can read a bit further?
I'll see what I can find as Apple has provided very few details on this. The links I had to some material I had reviewed earlier, unfortunately, are no longer valid.
For example, what happens with an uncompressed .wav file that is an 11kHz sample rate? Does the AX have a D/A that supports all of the supported sample rates? Or, is that part of the compression "on the fly" into Apple Lossless that everything is coded / converted into a single sample rate (44.1 kHz??).
    Great question!
The AX works only with iTunes v4.6+ and is limited to music files that iTunes can read; ie, 16-bit data only. (An exception is you can use a third-party product like Rogue Amoeba's AirFoil to stream other non-iTunes sources.) These data, though, can be in any file format that iTunes recognizes, from lossy MP3s at the low-quality end of the spectrum to Apple Lossless and lossless AIFF or WAV files at the high end. To more directly answer your questions, the AX functions only at a 44.1kHz sample rate. When you play, for example: 11kHz, 32kHz or 48kHz data, iTunes sample-rate-converts the data in real time before sending it to the AX. As you figured this is a limitation of the QuickTime Codec that is the heart of iTunes.
One operational glitch, that primarily affects the analog side, is the fact that the AX doesn't have a local clock circuit. When the incoming data is interrupted, as it is when you change songs in iTunes, there is no longer a digital output to feed the DAC, which loses lock as a result. Provided you can live with its limitations the combination of iTunes and an AX provides an easy way to pipe CD-quality music around your home.
FYI. For the 802.11b/g version of the AX, the analog audio is handled by a Texas Instruments PCM2705 digital-to-analog converter. I don't know if they used the same DAC for the newer 802.11n model. Some audiophiles use an external DAC in an attempt to overcome any of the AX's shortcomings.

  • Can you share iTunes music w/Apple TV and Airport Express?

Can you share iTunes music between Apple TV and Airport Express?
I have been very happily using 2 Airport expresses to share my itunes library from my iMac to 2 other rooms. I just bought an Apple TV for the bedroom (and I ASSUMED to replace the Airport Express), and can not figure out any possible way to have the same music in 3 rooms any more.
    Anybody have any ideas?

I think you may have misunderstood the OP, I believe they wish to be able to walk from room to room and listen to the same music over the tv and the express. itunes will send music to the tv and the express at the same time but in two different streams, so even if you chose the same music over each device it would be quite difficult to sync.

  • Internet speed slows down when connected via airport express

Internet speed slows down when connecting via airport express. When connecting directly via the timecapsulethe internet speed is ok, when connecting via the airport express the speed slows down. What can I do to change that? Any suggestions?

Turn off the AirPort Express completely as a test, and move your computer very close to the location of the Express.
As I said before, the Express can only extend the bandwidth (speed) that it receives from the Time Capsule, so the speed that you see there with the Express powered off will be the fastest speed of which the Express is capable.
The Express will make the signal go further when it extends....but it will not make the signal go faster.
A good location for a device that extends wirelessly is a point that is about half the distance from the Time Capsule and the general area that needs more wireless coverage.
If you locate the AirPort Express too far from the Time Capsule or there are more than a couple of walls in the signal path, the signal will be very slow by the time that it reaches the Express....and the Express simply extends a signal that has already slowed down significantly.
If you already have the Express located about half the distance between the Time Capsule and general area that needs more wireless coverage, how many walls, ceilings or other obstructions are there in the signal path between the Time Capsule, the AirPort Express and the area that needs more coverage?
Often, due to obstructions, it is just not possible to achieve good performance when you try to extend a network wirelessly. The solution is connect the AirPort Express to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.
There is virtually no signal loss with this type of connection, so the Express can be located exactly where it is needed and it will produce a much faster wireless signal in this type of setup.

  • Can I stream music from Apple TV to airport express?

Using Apple TV can I stream music for say apple radio to my apple airport express which is in another room and connected to a set of speakers?

Yes.  It is in Settings, but I cannot tell you where at this moment.  Just click around in Settings, and you will see an Airplay drop down like on your Mac.
    Have a nice day.

On the other hand, it works when streaming music from iphones or ipads.

  • Music streaming to Airport Express problem, second base station needed?

    Hi,
I want to stream the music throughout my house. I have 1 time capsule, 2 airport Express units (latest model) and a Mac Mini for the music. On the other hand, I have a macbook, which needs the time capsule for back-up (also wireless). Everything is connected and Internet is working, although, when I am "streaming" music, this does not go so fluently.
Should I need to buy another airport base station and use it only formusic, whilst keeping the Macbook connected directly to the time capsule?
I use 2.4 Ghz and 802.11n (b, g compatible). Airport express units are set up as "extend the wireless network".
    Thanks!

My problem is exactly the same. Only iMac speakers work stably.

On this forum, I could not find any guarantee that it might work with OSx ML.
    What do you think?

  • Audio stream from airport express while watching a music video on laptop

    Hello,
Can anyone help with instructions to have the audio portion of an itunes purchased video stream across the airport express while the video plays on the macbook. It seems to work fine with all of the music files but in trying to watch a video i purchased the audio will only play through the macbook. Any help is appreciated

Hello ehende2. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Sorry, but you won't be able to do this as this is a limitation of iTunes/AirTunes.

hi, i want to stream music from my imac to my airport express station via airplay. but not only with itunes, but also from safari (youtube) or other programs like games etc.
is there - or will there be - a way?
    thx

Thank you for the answer, but airfoil is pay-software. on ipad and iphone there´s airplay for allmost every application - without extra payment.

  • Can I choose to stream to Airport express vs Apple TV when on same network?

I was thinking about getting a seperate Airport Express to use for Airplay music from my iPhone or iPad to my outdoor stereo, but didn't know how this would affect the rest of my network and other equipment like my Airport Extreme or my Apple TV.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?  Will it show as a seperate "airplay" device?

Yes, you can change the name of the 'device' to whatever you want. I would use the 'Extend' feature over joining as a client, that way you can get more roaming room wth your portables...
