Music Files are Missing- 50%-ITunes can't find Folder?

50% of my music files have an exclamation and will only work if I do a search in Vista, locate the file :C:\Users\jorge'\Desktop\Desk Top Files 8-10-09\Velocity PC\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\My eMusic\Neal Casal\Leaving Traces Songs 1994-2004
If they are in the iTunes folder, why can't iTunes find them?

That's not the normal path for the itunes folder!
It's on your desktop, where it shouldn't be.
The default path on Vista is
C:\Users\ your username \Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\

  • Error msg iTunes cannot run files are missing - reinstall itunes

I keep getting a message when i try to open iTunes 9 telling me to re-install. When I do, large portions of my music files are missing from iTunes on laptop. They are on my iPhone 3G, because I synced them from iTunes before it crashed. How do I get them to sync back into iTunes from the iPhone?

Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base and let us know if it brings you any combination of joy and/or satisfaction.

Just like the title...  Music files are missing and I don't want to locate each folder individually, how do I get itunes to locate all of the music without taking each music file out from the album folders they're in?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • During installation of iTunes appears an error message: Itunes cannot run because some files are missing. What can I do?

Recently I received an iPad2 as a gift. I had iTunes because an iPod I had. First I put some productivity apps through my computer. Then I bought some other games apps through WiFi. then when I try to synchronize, I lost my productivity apps and just keep those buy on WiFi. Now I try to install iTunes again, and what I received at the end is a message that tells me "iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes".
I did it a couple of times. Same result. One of this times, I also retired those programs recommended on help page: iTunes, QuickTime, Bonjour, Apple Mobile, etc. (in the order indicated)

  • "Some of the required files are missing" in iTunes 10.3.1.

    Hi there:
Apple Software Update recently updated my version of iTunes to 10.3.1, but I can no longer open the program. I receive the error message "Cannot open iTunes. Some of the required files are missing."
I've reinstalled iTunes twice, to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm running Windows 7 Premium 32-bit.
    Thanks!
    Jon

Hi! The repair install didn't work, but rather than trying to install iTunes on top, I uninstalled iTunes and QuickTime and reinstalled them, and iTunes runs again. I'm glad it didn't erase my library!
    Thanks for your help.

  • HELP - My Songs Are there but iTunes can't find them!!!

I just moved my iTunes library to a different drive and iTunes just gives me "!" next to the song files and tells me the song file isn't there.
    Help!!

    Edited:
Did you go to iTunes Preferences/Advanced/General/ and show iTunes the path to the new drive? If not, you need to do that.
The ones which will play are the ones iTunes can find. The " ! " ones are the songs iTunes thinks it can't find. If you quit iTunes and restart your system, the next time you open iTunes the checks should be gone.

  • How can i make sure all of the files in my music file are on my itunes??

I copied all of my itunes music via usb drive (crappy process) onto my mac in my music folder.. but it too several times due to the small size of the usb drive.. anyways..
When you add music to your music folder.. it doesn't go onto your itunes playlist until you choose that specific song..
can itunes perform a search to make sure you have a copy of every music file on your itunes?

iTunes menu File -> Add to library and select the \Music\iTunes\iTunes music\ folder.
FYI: If you are using iTunes 9, go to \Music\iTunes\iTunes media\ folder.
Make an alias on the desktop of the *Automatically add to iTunes* folder. Then drag songs to the is folder and they will automatically get added to iTunes and moved to the correct folder.

  • After a backup all music files are invisible and iTunes don't see anything

    Hi,
I got a very strange problem and I'm really lost.
I made a backup of my portable iTunes libray (using a 160 GB Maxtor one touch 4 mini usb) on another backup disk (750 GB Maxtor onetouch III firwire 800). I have my library on a external disk to safe disk space on my MacBook Pro disk. For the back up I use the software Personal Backu4 of Intego Software. The 160GB iTunes disk is Formatted als Mac OS Extended format.
Now all back up data that aren't music files (AAC or MP3 files) was correctly back up, but all music files was like deleted, all artist > album folders looks empty. But, cheking with the disk utility it looks that all files exist and the Used space (36.06 GB) looks correctly and the numbers of files too (some 5942 files). But all files are invisible, folders looks empty. Now is looks that all purchased and CD imported int my library didn't exist anymore: and this in BOTH disks, side by side is the same situation.
How I can come out from this situation, I really don't have any idea how to coming out fron this sad situation.
Hany help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

OK, here's what REALLY doesn't make sense.
After manually fixing a lost file, NOTHING in the XML changes. Not one single character changes in the XML file. I diff'd the whole file before and after - no difference. So, basically, it goes out and 'finds' it and updates something that we can't see to repair the connection, meanwhile we are left to think that this XML file has the library data in it.
Mind you, the media file(s) are present and accounted for in the file system - correct name and path and everything - before and after I go Locate the file when iTunes complains about it being missing..
iTunes is so overbloated, we can't even fix stuff when we see precisely how it is broken.

  • My files are there but itunes can't 'see' them.

I recently relocated my itunes library using itunes own settings for where to put the ibrary, then running Conslidate.
Several random files are unable to be played, giving me the 'I can't find that file' message.
I looked into the XML file for two examples:
This is the XML for a song that iTunes CANNOT find:
    <key>22379</key>

    <key>File Folder Count</key><integer>5</integer>
    <key>Library Folder Count</key><integer>1</integer>

The relevant file path information from both seems to be:
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/1TB/Music/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/Music/Herb%20Alpert%20& #38;%20Tijuana%20Brass/SRO/12%20Flamingo%201.m4a</string>
    AND

Both file paths are valid - both real files exist in the listed folder.
I SUPPOSE I can go through my entire 12,000+ track library searching for randomly lost media links within iTunes, then use the 10+ clicks it takes PER TRACK to tell iTunes where the file is. Even though the path in the XML look accurate.
Any ideas? And please don't tell me to dump my iTunes library itl and xml files and start from scratch. I have dozens of playlists, layers smart playlists, etc. I can't even imagine getting all that setup again.

OK, here's what REALLY doesn't make sense.

  • Upgraded to IOS5, now my music files are missing

    Hi!
I am hopeing someone can help me
I updated to IOS5 a couple of days ago, and since then I have been trying to find a solution to the "missing music files" in my music library.
All 439 songs are listed in the Music Library, but when I double click one to play it, I get the following error:
The song "xxxxx" could not be used because the original file could not be found.  Would you like to locate it?
I click "Locate", it takes me to what I am guessing is the lastest iTunes Back-up called "iTunes Library 2011-10-12" I click on it but nothing happens.
Anyone have the same problem and fix it?
Any ideas/help will be greatfully received
    Many thanks in advance

Same here. All the music I have installed from CDs is gone. It's gone from iTunes in the computer and, of course, from the phone.
Before I installed iOS5 I backed up. The restore put everything back except the music. Now I can't find it anywhere on my laptop

  • Music files mysteriously missing from itunes library

I have never had problems with my Itunes until now. Over 8GB of music has gone missing from my Itunes Library, there is still 2GB of random music left in the Library. Is there any way this could have happened as I have not done anything manually to move or delete any music. And how do I get the music back??? Please help as I have just had my Ipod stolen so now I have no music on computer to put onto a new Ipod if/when I get one.

  • ITunes music files are too large, how can I compress them?

So yeah today was my first day using iTunes and buying some songs. I got 12 songs and it came out to 80.6MB, I really want to know if there is a converter in iTunes for this or if there is a trusted software I can use to convert them?

I think you might be a little confused, html5 documents use the <video> tag to display videos online, .mp4 is one of the video types used by the <video> tag...
    HTML5 Video
    HTML video Tag
Since not all browsers can see .mp4, you also need a .ogg or .webm video so those browsers have something to look at. That secondary source is added to the <video> tag in html5 pages so a browser can latch onto the first source it understands.
To make your video smaller, you would need to reduce its actual pixel dimensions (if they're full screen HD videos, dropping them to 640x480 or similar will reduce the file size) or framerate.
Here's a converter for .ogg format...
