Music filtering in iPhone

Hi all,
As iTunes don't sync the song ratings in iPhone anymore I was wondering if there is any other program/app to filter my playlists. I don't understand why iTunes stopped having such an awesome feature but I really need to filter my playlists through my iPhone. If anyone knows a way around please tell me.
Thanks

god i remember using a minidisk player. that was the coolest player i had before i started going with mp3 players. but i digress.
music quality depends completely on the bitrate used to store it, plus the quality of the medium used to get the music from. if the CD used to get the music is scratched or otherwise damaged, the music won't play well.
the highest bitrate i have seen for mp3's is around 320 kilobits per second. (320 * 60 / 8 = 2.4MB/s) the problem is that this equals about 2.4 megabytes per minute of music, assuming i did the math right. if you have 2000 songs with an average length of 4 minutes, that's 19.2 GIGABYTES of data.
a good bitrate i use for music storage is 192kb/s. it gives you good quality without using a ton of space. i also use a variable bitrate setting if it's available. variable bitrate is awesome because if the song has a lot of stuff going on, it will automatically increase the bitrate used to keep the quality high, while if little or nothing is going on, it will decrease the bitrate to nothing to save space.
in order to save space on my iPhone for the amount of music and video i like to have available, i have decreased the bitrate on my music to 128kb/s, which is the minimum i would ever use. all of my music that used to take about 10 gigabytes of space now only takes about 6.5, so you can easily see the space savings.

  • ITunes music on my iPhone 5

Hello all you wonderful, marvelous techie people!
I have an iPhone 5 which I connected to my Vista PC, in order to access some photos that I had taken using the phones camera. I needed to send or at least upload one of these to a website, that required a copy of a receipt for a proof of purchase.
I had forgotten that iTunes was set to allow 'automatic syncing' with iOS devices being connected, so iTunes launched and tried to sync with the iPhone before I realized that it was happening and SOME music from the pc's iTunes library ended up on my iPhone. I have since changed this setting to disable auto syncing.
Despite this setting being in place I find it strange that this happened at all, especially as at some point in the process when I was trying to either stop any music getting on my iPhone or at least use the 'auto fill' settings manually, I got a warning that the library connected with my iPhone 5 had been previously synced to 'another' library on 'another' PC. This is despite the fact that there had actually NEVER been any music on my iPhone at all (or any other iTunes content - except the apps on the phone were visible in iTunes).
I managed to stop any more music getting onto the iPhone 5, but then could not figure out how to delete what HAD actually been put on the iPhone. I noticed that there is an option to 'auto fill' from specific playlists, so I thought that if I did that then at least my playlists and the songs in them would be better than music that had been chosen at random - according to the autofill settings that were in place at the time that the phone was auto filled, because I had connected it to my PC.
Anyway, although I did this the actual playlists were NOT copied onto the iPhone 5, even though the music in them was. Not only that I am unable to find any way to access this music which is now on my iPhone 5
In an ideal situation, I will NOT be having to do a 'restore' of my iPhone - which is not a restore anyway, because it is actually a 'factory re-set'.
Can anyone here tell me if it is possible to back up SPECIFIC data (NOT including the music currently on it) that is on my iPhone 5, so that if a 'restore' is the only option, then at least the 'important stuff' will not be lost.
Important stuff is contacts, notes, e-mail accounts and the msgs sent to and from those accounts, as well as any 'junk mail filtering data' in order to only get back the mail I actually want, and files created by other apps like Adobe Reader and SkyDrive. Currently installed apps, I assume, will be able to be recovered from the App Store, (which would then be updated in due course or as needed), and I would also assume that the files created by or used by the apps would then be accessible.
As always, all relevant help is very much appreciated.
Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year

Have you already checked how big your photo library is? Maybe it takes to much space from your phone tosync your whole library. Open iTunes, connect your phone and then check your media-sync-settings for Music, Videos, Photos etc.

  • Is there a way of adding music to an Iphone from a computer without deleting the music already on there?

I have music on my iphone that is not in my computer's Itunes library and visa versa, i would like to download a specific group of songs from my computer's itunes library to my Iphone's. The problem is I do not want to go through the entire process of syncing my entire library again and I fear that if do the songs that i have on the iphone will be deleated. is there a way this can be solved, maybe through icloud or something?

The home page '''''about:home''''' is built in to Firefox and should/would not be affected.
Though it should/would not affect '''''about:home''''', there is an entry for Mozilla on their list, if you are using some page at mozilla as your home page. On my installation that item on their list is shown as disabled; I do not recall disabling that item myself, therefore it could be their default (disabled) and they know that item is not functioning properly on their list.
You may be correct in that there could be a conflict with another add-on. The only way to determine that is to experiment by installing '''''HTTPS Everywhere''''', disabling/enabling a few extensions (or plugins), restart Firefox and repeat until you find the conflicting item.

The only other thing that comes to mind is a possible corruption of '''''HTTPS Everywhere''''' during download/installation.
Post back once you locate a solution yourself, if it is a conflict with another add-on, or once you hear back from Electronic Frontier Foundation with a solution from them.

  • When I listen to music on my iPhone and pause it, if I come back to it later, the playlist has started over. I have a 4S running on iOS 7.0.4. Is there any way to keep this from happening so that my playlist will start off where I last was?

  • How do I share the music from my iPhone 6 with my wife's I phone 6

HHow do I share music between my iPhone 6 and my wife's I phone 6

If you were using a Mac you could use a program but AFAIK there is nothing similar yet for the PC.
However, you should have a backup of your music, correct? Just restore from that backup to your computer (and, if not, at least this will teach you the importance of always backing up your music purchases onto writable media like DVD).

  • My latest OS upgrade (to 6.1.3) resulted in loss of all music on the iPhone. It is still on my computer intact, but cannot get it back on the phone. If I click on music under the iPhone icon in iTunes, it shows me only voice memos.  Help!

after upgrades, suddenly no music is on or can be synched to the iPhone. It is all there on my computer but cannot get it to synch back. I tried copying over older itl fils t no avail.
If I click on music under the iPhone icon within iTunes, it shows on a dozen or so voice memos. (also shows them under "Voice memos").
    Itunes version is 11.0.3 (42)
    Any suggestions?

From the requirements point of view, you can happily move to iOS 6. From the user tranquility pov, it's a crapshoot. Remember that MILLIONS of iDevices have been sold, a couple of those just this past Xmas season and hence all with iOS 6 preinstalled. "Many complain in the forums" is a number that ranges in the 10's or 100's: i.e., a minuscule amount of the total devices out there. And. of course, nobody comes here to gush excitedly about how well his iGadget works; everybody here (save those of us regular users who attempt to help, we're not Apple employees) has a gripe, grumble or complaint.
I can tell you from personal experience that my i5 with iOS 6.1.4 works as desired. All my colleagues' iPhones with iOS 6 work as expected. And we have a particularly flaky Wi-Fi environment thanks to our less than stellar netadmins.
But in the end, it is entirely up to you. Will you bite the bullet, or wait some more? Check the new stuff that came with iOS 6 and decide whether or not to risk it.

You would have to create the ringtones.
Google will find several way to do this.
You cannot buy ready made ringtones from your computer.

Unplug your Iphone out of your computer and replug it back in. It took me several times before I could do this

  • HT4914 I just subscribed to iTunes match but only 61 songs from my 7GB of music on my iphone showed up.  I do not want to lose any music.  What should i do?

I just subscribed to iTunes match but only 61 songs from my 7GB of music on my iphone showed up.  I do not want to lose any music.  What should i do?  When I go to settings-music-and try to enable iTunes Match on my iPhone it says "iTunes Match will replace the music library on this device"  I don't want to do that it only has 61 of my 7GB of songs.

did you find out the answer?  I am afraid to hit enable.

  • Can I download music to my iPhone directly from my computer- WITHOUT using iCloud?

Does anyone know how to download music from iTunes on your computer onto your phone without using iCloud?  It used to be that I would just plug in my phone, hit sync, and all the music I wanted (which I had selected in iTunes on my computer) would be added to my phone's music library.  Easy peasy.  Now, none of the music actually gets downloaded to the phone- if I'm connected to wi-fi, I can access all those selected songs through the cloud, but if I'm not, then the songs are grayed out in my playlists.  Each song has a little cloud icon next to it, and I can download the songs by tapping that… one at a time.  I talked to Apple support and they told me to go into the iTunes store app and select "download all," which I did try, but given the quantity of songs I have, and the rate at which things were going, it would have taken forever to get them all downloaded.  I have thousands of songs I like to have on my phone, and the point is to be able to listen to them in places without wi-fi (like my car, or on a hike, or an airplane); it is SUPER annoying that I can no longer quickly download all of those songs by simply connecting my phone to my computer.  I have searched high and low in these forums and I can't seem to find a solution; I would really appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Some details:  I have an iPhone 6, and I use iTunes on my Mac, and all of my software on both is up to date.  I do not subscribe to iTunes Match, so turning that off (as has been recommended elsewhere) is not helpful to me.

Thanks, but I should have clarified:  I already have USB syncing set up with iTunes on my Mac and have been adding music to my iPhone for years that way; now with the latest IOS, it no longer appears to be working.  I follow the exact steps I always have (and which are outlined in the link provided), but no actual music is downloaded to my phone- if I am not connected to a wi-fi network, I cannot listen to my music unless I download it from iCloud.  (And downloading it from iCloud is a laborious task because I have many songs.)

  • How can I delete music from my iPhone 4 (iOS7) when I manually manage the music in iTunes, but it has no affect on my phone's music library?

I'm attempting to delete music from my iPhone 4 (iOS7). When I connect it to iTunes, and the music shows up, I delete the music from the phone. When I disconnect the phone, the music is still there. The same thing happens if I try to sync the phone before disconnecting. I have "manually manage music" checked. Additionally, when I reconnect my iPhone, the music I "deleted" from it when it was previously connected to iTunes no longer appears, preventing me from trying to delete it again.
I know I can swipe left on each song to delete it on my phone, and I have been, but that takes a long time when you're trying to delete everything on your iPhone.
    Suggestions?

  • ITunes says there is music on my iPhone but it's not showing up!

iTunes says it is syncing with my iPhone, and it says there is music on the iPhone. However, on the 'iPod' section of my iPhone, there is nothing there! I have synced multiple times (am also having LOADS of issues with files that iTunes says are corrupted when I'm trying to sync, even though they will play quite happily through iTunes) and I have changed the cable I'm using to connect my iPhone to my PC.
    Can anybody help?

Oddly, when I disabled AdAware and Zone Alarm I stopped getting the corrupt file messages too.....anyone know why this might be?

    Why would they?
Do you have Automatic downloads enabled? Note this only works for items purchased after it is enabled.
-> iTunes Store: How to enable Automatic Downloads
Also, see this -> Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
