Music folder transferred to a new computer won't sync

my iTunes folder contains approximately 8,000 songs. the computer on which it's stored is no longer working properly, so i saved my itunes folder onto an external hard drive, then uploaded it to a new laptop. now, when i attempt to sync my entire music library from the new computer, it only syncs my purchased music.
the files have transferred successfully, as i can click on any given song and it will indeed play (on the computer).
it's almost as though my music non-purchased music folder is saved in the wrong place, or that my ipod is not pointing to the right folder.
any idea how to combat this problem?

Hi HB3207!
I have a couple of suggestions for you to attempt to resolve this issue. First, I would try re-creating your iTunes library following the instructions listed here:
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
You may also need to simply try restarting your phone and attempting to sync again after a restart. Information on completing this can be found here:

Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

  • My new computer won't sync with my phone

I had synced my old computer (Windows 7, Firefox) with my phone (Android, Firefox). Old computer broke, bought new computer (Windows 8), synced new computer, got all old bookmarks back. So far, so good. However, I can't seem to get any new bookmarks added on my phone on this computer or added on this computer on my phone. Syncing apparently happens every day, but not between these two.
    How do I fix this?

    Are you getting any error?
Did you setup the SYNC without error?
REMOVE your SYNC, restart your mobile and reSYNC it

  • ITunes on a new computer won't sync music or ringtones to my iPhone

    Hi,
I recently bought a new computer (Acer touch screen Aspire V5) which uses Windows 8. I downloaded the latest iTunes (11.0.4.4)
I authorised my computer to my iTunes account and was able to download my iTunes purchases and add music from my old computer and CDs etc.
When I plugged in my iPhone 4s it said that it was sync'd to another computer and would I like to change to this one. I downloaded my phone content and said 'yes'
Now when I go to sync my phone it starts the process. At the top of iTunes it says 'Syncing phone Steps 1-5'. It goes thru steps 1 and 2 of preparing to sync and backing up phone then starts step 3 of 5 preparing apps, then stops. No error message or explanation comes up.
I have clicked 'sync only checked songs and videos' in options and tried with it unticked as well.
I have tried deauthorising the computer and authorising it again.
The 'restrictions' setting is off on my phone.
I have run the diagnostics test thru iTunes help and it says the device attached is able to sync.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks, Hollie

  • I have a new laptop to replace my old one and need to install my itunes library on there, so that all the stuff on my phone, including music is transfered to my new computer

    please advise

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place. In the case of a library moved from one system to another there are also potential permissions issues. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

  • New computer - won't sync w/Nano

I got a new PC. I put my iTunes library from the old computer onto CDs, loaded them onto iTunes on the new PC. That went fine, but now when I buy new songs from the Music Store, iTunes won't transfer them to my iPod Nano. When I try to sync, I get a message that says those songs were not transferred, because "you're not authorized to play them on this computer." Is there a fix for this?

  • Old computer crashed; loaded iTunes to new computer, won't sync my iPod

The computer I initially set up my 60g iPod video crashed (windows based). I loaded iTunes on my new computer (also windows based) and even entered my iPod serial number. When I plug it into the USB port, iTunes recognizes the iPod (with my name) and even shows all the songs and videos on the screen, but they are in faded gray and I can't highlight them or upload them into iTunes. When the iPod is first plugged in, I get the message about the iPod being authorized on another computer and can set it up on the new one, but then it would remove the entire contents and update with the new library which has nothing in it.
Is there any way to upload my iPod contents into the newly loaded iTunes on my new computer? I got an iTouch for X-Mas and I am hoping that when I load that software, it will recognize my older iPod's music library and upload it. Of course, this won't matter if I can't get my old stuff into me new iTunes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Moved i-tunes to new computer, won't sync purchased songs?

I have recently moved my i-tunes library over to a new computer. When I go to update mt i-pod now it doesn't update any purchased music, even though these ar showing in my music library.
Someone please help as some of my most recent and favourite albumns won't update.

Choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes, or play back one of the purchased songs on your computer; in either case, provide the username and password associated with your iTunes Store account. This needs to be done before any purchased music can be synced from that computer to the iPod.

  • New computer, won't sync some songs

I have a new computer. Launched iTunes, authorized the computer. Thirteen of my purchased songs won't load onto the nano because it says the computer is not authorized to play them. I played each of the songs in iTunes and authorized each individually when asked. They still won't sync--I get the same message. This worked the last time (after a hard drive crash), but it isn't working now. Any advice?

    Hello,
First, I want to check to make sure your purchases have all been made with the same iTunes Store account. If you've ever used multiple accounts, then you need to make sure your computer is authorized for the account that was used to purchase that music. You can determine which account was used by right clicking on the file and choosing Get Info. Click on the Summary tab, and in the middle portion of the window, right-hand column, you'll see the iTunes Store account information used to purchase that song.
If the computer has been authorized for that account and it still refuses to let you use those tracks, try the steps in this article:

  • ITunes On New Computer Won't Sync To iPod Touch

A couple months ago I got a new laptop. I was able to transfer all my songs over from the iPod Touch (5th Generation) to the computer successfully (including plays w/ a program I downloaded). I made changes to the library since then (deleting some songs and adding some new ones). Today for the first time since I got the new laptop, I tried to sync iTunes (updated) to the iPod 3 times but it wouldn't make any changes. I've yet to update the iOS (my iPod is 2 iOS's behind). If anyone can help, thank you in advance.

You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
If ll the synced media like apps and music are on the new computer, just backup to iTunes and restore from that backup

  • Old iPod and new computer won't sync.

I have recently purchased a new Mac computer (OSX 10.7.4) and it won't recognise my old (6years) iPod.  I keep getting a message that says my computer can't read my iPod and vice versa.  Surely I don't have to buy a new iPod
Is there any way round this problem?

What is the exact error iTunes is giving you?  What happens if you do a restore of the device? This will wipe all data from the iPod and reset it to factory settings as well as load a fresh copy of the iPod's firmware onto the device. This should help rule out any sort of software issues/glitches with the iPod.

  • New Computer Won't Sync w/iPod

    (5th Gen. iPod, 30Gig)
Yes, I have just purchased a new PC and have connected my iPod to the iTunes program and it says that if it syncs with my iPod it will have to erase all of the files I have on it.
Now, I have about 200 albums on that thing and I'll be damned if erase that whole thing for this ********.

  • New computer won't sync

I am setting up a new desktop. Firefox 29.0.1 is installed on all of my computers. I created a Firefox account and signed in on all computers. The new desktop shows that I am logged in (Under the settings menu, in a line above the Customize line), but no other computers have this line, although they say I am logged in. All computers have the "Pair A Device" link under Settings->Options->Sync except for the desktop. It does not have this blue link. I have set up sync many times on my computers, but never on one that does not have the blue Pair A Device link. How do I do this, and how do I get the line saying I am logged in to appear in the Settings window. All computers Windows 8.1 64 bit, and all Firefox v. 29.0.1
    Thank you

    Hi Metron,
Sorry for the delay. Currently the devices with "Pair a device" are on the old sync. [[How to update to the new Firefox Sync]] Please take caution if you set up a new account that profile you set it up as will overwrite the next device you connect to the account.

  • I transferred all my music to my new computer, went to sync my iphone and the music library won't sync. It's like it's leaving the old library on and trying to add a duplicate one, keeps saying there isn't enough room. Help please?

Everything from my old computer is still in the music portion of my phone, I don't know how but it hasn't synced that part.  I went through and edited the new library and there are fewer songs, it's telling my I don't have enough room on my phone.  This is impossible when it is less music than I am currently holding.  How do I get it to delete the old information and put on the new library?

How exactly was the music transferred to the new computer?
The correct way is to copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.  If it was transferred properly there are no issues with syncing to the iOS device.
