Music Folders no longer kept in Albums!

Hi, since updating my Itunes, the library which Itunes uses automatically resets my albums so that each song on a compilation now is stored per name of artist instead of original album, can someone advise what has happened please?:)

Sorry forgot to add:
I have found and tried the advice in article:   http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967
However I have no files in the format iTunes Library YYYY-MM-DD that the artical relies on for its solution.
(Yes hidden and system files are set as shown in Windows Explorer)

  • Music app no longer supports single album pictures

Am I missing something. The musci app seems to be only able to display two rows of album art when in lanscape mode. It used to support just one. I find it more difficult to scroll though my albums when using the dock in my vehicle. Is there a way of setting this back ? Does anyone else have problems with landscape mode too. The radio portion of the music app doesn't seem to suport landscape mode either.
    Thanks for reading.....

I have the same problem, and after hours of trying to figure out the problem i finally did!! Its going to be a pain in the BUTT, but its the only way. :/
    1. Look for the song file.
    2. Right click and choose prefences
    3. Go to details and edit the information
    -  "Title" aka songs name
    -  "Album artist"
    - "Album"
-The rest of the stuff can be filled in if you want
    4. Click OK
    5. Drag it into itunes
    Hope this help. ;D

  • ITunes creating duplicates in my Windows music folders?

I ran out of space on my local hard drive, so I moved iTunes and all my music folders to an external drive. I wish I had checked here first, and gotten the instructions to move my music, but I didn't. I just dragged everything to my external drive.
I guess I made a mess of this, because many songs were duplicated (and triplicated) in my music folders. I deleted everything and tried again. It seemed to work. This was a few weeks ago.
Tonight I noticed the space used on my external drive suddenly doubled from 30 GB to 60 GB. I started looking in album folders and I'm finding duplicates again. For example, it will list songs as "Honky Tonk Women", "Honky Tonk Women1", "Honky Tonk Women2", etc.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening, and how do I fix it? Manually deleting 8500 songs will take forever! If I sync my iPod, will I end up with duplicates in my iTunes library?

Ed, I did have "Copy files to..." checked when I added music the first time. Per your advice, I've unchecked that box.
    Question: What is the EHD?
You say I can delete the music not in my iTunes music folder, but all the duplicates are in there.
I've been looking in my iTunes player, selecting songs, and getting info to check its path in my hard drive. Depending on if the song ends in 1, 2, or with no number, I then know which version I can delete from the iTunes music folder. I can't even imagine how long it will take me to do this about 8000 times! I'm tempted to delete everything and start over, but reloading all my CDs will take me weeks as well...

  • Moving music folders without loosing covers and information

I am using iTunes mainly to manage music on my iPhone and to edit album covers/song information of my MP3s. However, I am managing my music and music folders manually in a folder system that is not part of "iTunes Preferences -> Advanced -> iTunes Music folder location". Riping is also done not via iTunes. So every time I add a new CD I do that via drag and drop from my folder system.
Since I have recently bought a NAS I would like to move my Folder System to that NAS. Obviously after doing so, iTunes does no longer find the songs. So I deleted the information in iTunes and added the moved content again via drag and drop.
This is where the problem starts. It seems that the information that I added in iTunes (covers, genre, etc.) gets lost in the process. Apparently this is stored in the library and not in the ID3 Tag of the files. Otherwise iTunes would be able to recontruct the database 100% from the import process.
Obviously I do not want to do the editing again (the library is rather large). To look for every single trak and seek its new location also is by far to time consuming.
So, my question is: How can I move my folder structure to a new location keeping the information that I added in an automated way with minimal manual input?
    Thanks for your help!

This has been solved now. Since the answer might be of interest to some other users having the same issue, here is what to do.
1.) Copy the music files to the new location. Thereby you retain the original folder and nameing structure.
2.) Add all files to itunes again (drag and drop them into the applcation). The iTunes database will recognise that the music files are the same as the ones it already knows with just the location changed. Therefore it will add all the information relating to the old files it has in its database to the new files.
3.) Sort your database by date added.
4.) Delete all files in the datebase with a date before step 2.). The information stays with the new entries as desired.
    Et voila ...
Esentially you just change the workflow from my original posting. You delete after you add not the other way round. Worked for me with a rather large numer of tracks ...

  • Most of my music is not longer available on my iPhone, even though it is synced

I don't have iTunes Match, but a lot of my music is not longer downloaded onto my iPhone, and there's no option to download the song - even when I have wifi. How do I get my music back on my device?
In iTunes, when I look at the "On This Phone" screen for my iPhone, the songs that my iPhone won't play are faded and have a grey circle to the left of their names. It does not happen exclusively with purchased songs.

    Craig
I am finding every single hard drive that has a itunes library on it.  I am only moving the music folders inside the itunes folder to the new WDhd.  After the music folder is on the WDhd, I add what disk it came from. COPY media files (MP3, M4A, etc) whilst noting where they came from
Do I make a big music folder on WDhd, called "BIG MUSIC Archive" and dump the content of each of the downloaded music folders into the BIG MUSIC Archive? That is what I had/have set up
Won't there be a problem wiht folder (artists and albums) deleting each other where the last music folder wins? No because you copy them to separate folders/directories initially.
This is were I am now.
Later, Step 2,  turn on my usual Itunes and do the Library -> Consolidate     ?
THis will absorbe the BIG MUSIC Archive on teh WDhd drive.   I wil call my current libary on my current itunes external drive  ORIGINAL MUSIC
Maybe before STEP 2, I should get rid of all the dead files (a title but no song) that I mentioned before. Dead files can help you track what you cannot find
I can then use the resutling  ORIGINAL music folder as the new BIG MUSIC folder on my dedicated WDhd Arcihve hard drive. YES OR Allow iTunes to copy to the iTunes folder (Preferences->Advanced Tab.  I never do/did this as my PC Hard Drive partition/Macbook Air does not have the storage space.
Is that a good paraphrase of what you told me to do?  If not, please give me simple instructions.

  • Copying music folders from an old ext HD to a new one

Hey guys, long time off the discussions, back with a question I hope you can help me in.
Got a macbook. Have all my iTunes library on an external HD. Since this HD is failing, bought a new one. The failing HD is not being recognized by my new macbook, only by my old powerbook.
My goal is to transfer my music files from the failing HD, connected to the old powerbook, to the new HD, connected to the new macbook.
    My (idiot?) plan is:
    1) To set the new iTunes library location to the new HD through my macbook;
    2) To use a flash drive to copy all FOLDERS of artists from the failing HD;
    3) To connect the flash drive on the macbook and ask it to add the folders to my new location (the new ext. HD)
    4) Thing is, I´m not sure if iTunes will be able to copy FOLDERS instead of simple mp3 files. Is it possible? Is there a simpler plan to this mess??
Thanks a lot guys, any help appreciated.
    Paulo

Copy the music folders to the new hd.
On the new computer, set iTunes prefs -> Advanced - iTunes music folder to the location of the music on the external drive.
File -> Add to library and select the music folder on the external.

  • Any hope for music folders on the ipod Touch?

    Hi All
It is getting VERY difficult to manage my music on my 32 Gb iPod Touch. I have hundreds of playlists (for example one playlist for every version of a classical piece; on playlist for a pop album, etc. etc.)
Is there any hope for music folders as in iTunes on the Touch?
    ed

Why do you have a playlist for every album? If your tracks are tagged properly, you can just use the album menu on the Touch.
As for when/if there will be folders on the Touch, the only people who know are probably working under non-disclosure agreements. Who knows what will change when version 2.0 of the software comes out next month.
    Best of luck.

  • I purchased a song in the past and now I am trying to buy the album but I can no longer find the album.

i Purchased Aaliyah -rock the boat a while back and now I can no longer find that album in iTunes along with some other good songs by her. The name of the album is Aaliyah

It's possible that the rights-holder has removed the album, and her other albums, from your country's store. Is the album available on other music download purchase sites that you have access to ? Or is the CD available ?

  • HT1473 Can no longer see the album artwork I had added when I downloaded my cd. Help!

I havde lots of cds I downloaded to itunes. I added the album artwork manually. I decided to creat an additional library for my holiday cds. I followed the instructions, hit **** when itunes started, created a new library, then changed to that library. All was fine. I decided to download the Christmas albums later. I restarted Itunes and switched back to my original library when I have over 3000 abums and noticed that all of the albums I had downloaded no longer have the album art that I manually added. What happened and please someone tell me how I access the info. I really don't want to have to do it all over again, and will this happen if I change librarys again.
    Thanks

Connect your phone to computer, and sync like this. Check the boxes for the playlists, artists, albums you want to sync. Then click Apply. If you have enough space on your phone, you can choose Entire music library.

  • In Windows 7, how to make music folders open with iTunes??

    Ok, here’s my little problem:
In Windows 7, I have iTunes installed with WMP disabled. In the registry, I have added a Windows Explorer right-click shortcut for folders so that I can choose to open/play that folder’s content in iTunes (see image link below).
    http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u297/akita11/Explorer.jpg
All well and good, but I’m the lazy type. So what I would like, is when I left-click on a music folder that has audio files (like mp3’s) in it, instead of Windows Explorer opening the folder, for Windows to open/play such a folder in iTunes automatically. But, and that’s the thing I guess, this should only apply to music folders with audio files (like mp3’s) in it, and not to any other folder containing non-audio files.
I know I can go to the Folder Options control panel applet | File types, and edit the advanced settings for “Folder” from ‘Explore’ to ‘Play with iTunes’ as the default. But then this will be applied so that all and any folders open in iTunes, which isn’t exactly what I’m after.
I guess this can be handled via an advanced registry change, just like I added the Windows Explorer right-click shortcut via a simple registry setting. But for the **** of me I can’t figure out how to do it. I did google around a bit, but without any success.
All help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

You need to place a shortcut to open Firefox in the Start > Programs > Startup folder.<br />
That is basically the same in all Windows versions.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps youshouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Please HELP join these 2 iTunes folders in Windows 7 preserving album artwork & tags (discussion reply requested)

(Discussion Reply Requested ) Please HELP join these 2 iTunes folders in
Windows 7 preserving album artwork & "tags"
I have searched and not found an up to date understandable answer as how
to join 2 working portable same (apple ID) user iTunes folders into one itunes folder
while above all else preserving hand edited Abum Artwork and hand edited tags.
( It was many hours of hand edited added Album Artwork and editing of tags )
    Situation is Windows 7 ( 64 bit ) with current iTunes installed ( 2014-03-17 )
The hard drive crashed and the old \iTunes folder and all old contents have been copied and backed up.
The windows 7 64 bit and latest iTunes 64 bit has been re-installed cleanly ( no old music added )
Music from the iTunes cloud was then added/downloaded into iTunes
Now \itunes has 40 gig of music available to play.
Now I want to join the currently installed working \itunes folder ( 40 gig of music )
with  the old saved \itunes folder  ( 100 gig of music ) into just one \iTunes folder
with preserving the current Album Artwork and editing of "tags" of both folders.
I have seen previous answers that use words like " consolidate " , " export / import ",
    " merge " , " apple home sharing " , " use explorer to copy  ..." , ect
none of which mentioned if the current Album Artwork
or tags survive unchanged from their current "specially edited" status.
I know their may be the ineviatable "duplicates", but there seems
to be several ways to handle them.  ( If you know the best way to
prevent or remove duplicates in this situation with joining two
iTunes folders in Windows please include that information also ).
Please provide an explanation of how to join these 2 iTunes folders
in Windows 7 into one \iTunes folder while preserving Album Artwork and tags.

Mike, thanks for the response. I will try this. I'll have to dig around here too, bc I want to know more about how I can import a windows xml file (while replacing the drive paths) and it creating a seperate itunes library with the pointers on the mac. Essentially, I have 2 libraries and there may not be a way around this with a windows machine and a mac - ive read plenty on Choose library on open, and mac to mac, windows to windows.
I also need to know more about what is getting stored in the album art folders. I believe it seems that when you select all, and copy the image in the artwork get info page its actually embedding these images in the files themselves, but if you paste into the left bottom artwork display pane its just adding where?? If I deleted the contents of this folder what would happen, should I not be copying this content?
If I update the images on the mac and swap out the drive paths and move the external drive back to the windows box, will i lose any updates I did while on the mac?
Good suggestion though, I'll try this out.

  • Is it possible to burn music folders on to an mp3 cd?

I have 6 music albums that I would like to burn on to a CD as MP3 files, is it possible to burn the 6 albums in 6 folders and not just all the songs. I would like to have the songs from each albums in their seperate folders and not 60 songs from 1-60.

I'm sorry but, in iTunes 11.3 if you burn a disc as an "MP3 CD" it will burn ll the tracks in the playlist in the sequential order they are in the playlist with no MP3 going into separate folders with only the song name and playlist order number as file name. To burn a CD with separate folders for different artists and albums select the disc format as "Data CD or DVD". I have had this problem multiple times and I wanted to share this info since, after I read this thread looking for the answer, I just mistakenly burnt another CD with only the songs without them being in separate folders by artist and album.
    Cheers,
    Timm
