Music gone, doesn't recognize iTunes, won't even respond...

Felicitations, guys, :P
I have a four-year old white 30G iPod that's been working as perfectly as the day I got it...until now, and I'm getting a little frustrated. D: My family and I went on vacation for a month, and I brought my iPod along for the trip, of course. I don't have the regular iPod charger that fits into the wall, since I usually use my iHome to charge it, so over the vacation I used my computer cord and my dad's laptop to charge it.
This usually works fine, since he doesn't have iTunes (it's a Lenovo using Windows Vista) and therefore doesn't try to sync up...usually it just charges great. I always use the "safely remove hardware" tool to eject my iPod to use it, but about halfway through the vacation, after ejection, I found out that my iPod had nothing on it - no music, no videos, no photos. I checked the settings and it had all 30G of space on there, so everything was erased, not just corrupted (or so it seems; I'm not an expert.)
I searched my dad's computer for my music, but it wasn't there; I didn't really panic, though, since I figured I could just resync it to my iMac when I got home, and everything would be fine...
So, I'm home now, and everything isn't fine. I plugged in my iPod into my iHome to let it charge (it was dead) and when it had enough juice, plugged it into my computer to let it sync. What do I get? A message on the screen that says "Please plug into iTunes to reboot," or something like that - I can't quote verbatim. Well, I was already doing that, so I ejected my iPod and made sure it was reset, turned it off, turned it on, then plugged it back in...and there's no response from iTunes. It won't even acknowledge my iPod.
Right now it's still plugged into my computer, and all it says on the screen is "Do not disconnect" in a strange font. Nothing else. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks, everyone,
-Ari

Just an update - I let my iPod run out of battery and die, then plugged it back in. iTunes acknowledged that it had a corrupted file (I was wrong, then) and was going to restore the iPod, but it couldn't fix it due to an "unknown error." Then my iPod fitzed a little and shut down. Should I just guilt my parents into buying me an iPod Touch, which I've wanted for awhile?

    HELP HELP

To confirm, your existing mail client isn't communicating with your existing and remote mail services at Dreamhost? Which mail client are you using (Apple mail?), and how is mail on the client set up?
It would initially seem that your client is still referencing the server, either for its inbound or outbound mail. (And I'm not sure how unplugging the server helps here, unless there's some sort of a configuration issue, or a duplicate network address or such.) This would usually be something within the configuration of the mail client.
The Mac OS X Server is significantly easier than the many other servers and server operating systems I've dealt with over the years, but it requires reading the manuals and/or some knowledge of networking and of server environments.
Small shops and home folks without the time or inclination to "spin up" on these server areas can be well-served with some help initially configuring the server. Servers are different from clients. Stuff that you're implicitly used to using when you're running a client -- the DHCP server, for instance -- are what the servers provide you with.
As for Mac OS X Server and particularly if you head outside of the default settings and sequences and off into the customizations, which is what has happened here, you might want to engage some assistance. Not just for the direct and obvious initial set-up sequence, but also for getting you set-up and started with backups and other such tasks. Before you get too deep in here and get too much underway and too much saved on your disks, do seriously consider getting somebody in to help set this box up for you.
Mac OS X Server is not "no IT", but it is rather closer to "less IT" than most. Particularly once you get it configured and running.

I've just updated my Itunes to the newest update (iso7 I think) and now my itunes won't even open. It just jumps 2-3 times on my dock then doesn't open. I have no idea what to do , please help!

Open Finder. Go to the "Go" menu in the menu bar. Press and hold Control and click on Library. Go to "Preferences". Find a file named, "com.apple.iTunes.plist" and delete that file. This won't delete your iTunes content. It will reset iTunes. Try it again.

  • Installed 4.9... now iTunes won't even launch

Okay.... here it is: I downloaded and installed 4.9 and now when I click on the iTunes shortcut on my desktop, iTunes won't even launch. In addition, my laptop won't even shut down properly now. I get a bizarre error message and it hangs for 4 or 5 minutes (despite the fact that I try to End Program over and over again). I have had to take the battery out to shut it down because of all this. More important, I can't access my iTunes!
    thanks,
    P.

Try using the "Clean' method for uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes. See Da Gohpa's link, toonz' link, as well as all the related links and activities provided below.
You may first want to try a “Repair Install”:
    - Start menu -> Settings -> Control Panels -> Add or Remove Programs
    - Select iTunes, Select Change/Remove button, Select "Repair", Click OK.
If that does not work, then read all the below and apply it to your situation:

b Uninstalling iTunes will not erase your music files,
or the two meta-data files iTunes uses to store your music info files (iTunes 4 Music Library.itl & iTunes Music Library.xml). However, it is
    i always
a prudent idea to have backups of your music files on some external source (CD, DVD or External Hard Drive).
b Prior to implementing the info in the links above,
close ALL running programs. In addition, you
    b should
    i temporarily
disable any TSR programs like firewalls, virus scanners, spy sweepers and the like. You will need to disable them both before uninstalling ANY software and/or before installing ANY software. Most of these TSR programs have System Tray Icons (usually located in the lower-right corner of your XP screen), that allow for an ‘exit’ or ‘quit’ or ‘shutdown’. Usually a single right-click on the icon will bring up a selection menu.
These TSR programs can impede installation of some software or create conflicts later on during operation (or lack of operation) Some anecdotal reports suggest that iTunes 4.8 & 4.9 are affected. Based on the amount of success by folks here who have tried the Clean Install, this seems to be a good solution for a variety of iTunes operational ‘glitches’
Please note that your TSR programs will all restart upon reboot. You will not be left unprotected. This also means that you need to remember to disable them when reinstalling iTunes after rebooting.
    b Also:
You may still need to turn off the 'Fast User Switching' even if no one else is using the computer.
==>Start/Control Panel/User Accounts/Change the way users log on and off/ ==> remove the check mark from FUS.

I can watch all of my old TV shows on iTunes, but the last one I downloaded jammed up after about one minute.  I tried quitting I-tunes and re-starting my computer to no avail.  iTunes won't even let me delete it so I can try downloading it again. But it will let me delete other episodes.

  • Itunes won't open, music gone after installing ipod/itunes software again

I was using itunes to purchase music and burn it to cds. I recently got a nano and tried to install the software last night. Now Itunes won't open, and I don't even see any of my downloaded music on my computer. It's possible that it's a problem with my computer, but we're also looking into the issues reported with Norton, etc. I should know more by tonight. My question is how do I get my music back if it was somehow deleted by this process? Obviously I've already purchased it, but I don't remember all the songs and I didn't have a backup.

You need to search your hard drive(s) and recycle bin for the music files.
Purchased music will always have a .m4p file extension.
Without a backup, if the files are gone, the music is gone.

  • Subscribed to iTunes Match with iTunes ID but iPad iCloud uses MobileMe and doesn't recognize iTunes subscription.  Help?

When I subscribed to Match this morning iTunes used the account I set up ages ago.  When I set up iCloud on the iPad it pushed me to the MobileMe account but now the iPad doesn't recognize the iTunes Match subscription but it does exist on the AppleTV since I set that up independently.  Is there a way to Match MobileMe ID and iTunes ID so they know they go/come from the same place?

Until Apple allow us to merge Apple IDs, no.
But if you go to Settings / Store on the iPad and change the Apple ID there to the one you used for Match, everything should work.  Essentially it means your iPad will use one ID for iCloud, and one for the iTunes store, but they're kept separate, so everything should be fine...

The Sync doesn't recognize my Recovery Key ("Wrong Recovery Key") even if I generate a new one. What to do?

If you have generated a new Recovery Key, then unfortunately the account data that you had before is gone (Sync will wipe all data before creating a new key to ensure it stays secure). So unfortunately at this point, unless you have a backup of your data somewhere, it is inacessible.

  • Mac Air new-bought one week ago- doesn't recognize my IPhone 4 even after the upgrade to IOS 7!!

Hi everyone, I bought a Mac Air 11" one week ago, so it's super new. When I connect my IPhone 4, now updated to IOS 7, it doesn't recognize it, it doen't charge it and the vibration goes like crazy! Sometimes it appears that there's the lock that forbids it, but I've always used it and I never had problems.. also cause the Ipad is locked as well and there are no problems!
Has anyone had the same problem??
    thanks!

No. USB 3 is Backwards compatible with USB 2 and even USB 1...

More than likely an issue with your phone.
Perhaps a Visit to an Apple Store or  AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is required.
The fact that the vibration goes like crazy  is suggestive of an issue.

  • I did the iPhone update, and iTunes recognizes iPhone but iPhone doesn't recognize iTunes.

the phone says "connect to iTunes" even when it is connected. iTunes seems to recognize the phone (even though the phone looks inactive).  when looking at the macbook screen, the phone on the screen in itunes displays all my apps and music.  i don't see my photos and my contacts from the macbook view.  i'd like to restore my phone from the back up prior to the update, and i am being prevented from doing so.  help.
prior to this i was having problems with itunes telling me to put in a password to retrieve my backup, and even after putting in my normal password it didn't work.
i did not have it set to encrypted. i've tried all previous passwords ever used in itunes or elsewhere on my computer.
    assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • IMovie 11 doesn't recognize iTunes or iPhoto

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.4.  iMovie does not recognize iPhoto or iTunes in the media panels.  How can I fix this?

    first:
it is NO good idea to use a backup-drive as a working-drive ....
    second:
in Finder, select the TC, ctrl-click, choose 'Information'
    under Permissions, check 'ignore owner'.-
(hopefully, this doesn't kill TCs ability for backups ... see #1)

  • Itunes doesn't recognize tracks as purchased even though they are in librar

I had to reorganize my library because I had moved stuff around on various external drives and my library wasn't 'finding' all my music, even though it was there. The specifics of what I did are below**, in case you are interested.
Everything worked more or less as expected, except there was no purchased category on the left navigation pane. My purchased music was indeed in my library and playable, but no longer recognized or sortable as "purchased". While some might like this , I wonder what happened and whether/how I can fix it. Please advise.
** Specifically, I had all my music exactly duped on 2 external drives, but for some reason my library only recognized some tracks as being on one or the other drive, and there was no easy way to consolidate, since consolidate library would have resulted in duplicate files on the drive I consolidated to. So, I 'deleted' my library file (moved it to a temp location) and then pointed "add folder to library" to the one external drive I wanted to use. Perhaps this was the wrong way to accomplish what I wanted, but it seemed the easiest!

One remaining problem I have is on the 'date added' ... now that data appears lost.
For all intents and purposes, I believe it is. The information stored in your iTunes Store Account Purchase History is not connected with your iTunes Library information.
where is the info stored when you make changes to tracks/albums in 'Get Info' stored?
Much of it is stored in the song file itself, such as the song name, artist, and album.
First and foremost, the iTunes Library.itl file - which is what iTunes actually references - stores the location of the files on your computer (the Where part of the Get Info tab. Additionally playlists and related information - such as Ratings, Play Counts, Dates Last Played and Dates Added - are stored in it as well.
iTunes doesn't directly use the iTunes Music Library.xml file although if the need arises it can use it to create an .itl file .
But the .xml is not as complete as the .itl. For example, it does not contain Play Counts, Dates Last Played and Dates Added.
Anyways back to what I think you were asking about, in the end you can use a Back-up copy of an iTunes Library.itl file to recreate a Library. And - to a more limited extent - you can use a back-up copy of an iTunes Music Library.xml to do so.

  • My iTunes won't even load anymore, when I click the icon, it looks like it will open and then it doesn't. Please Help!

iTunes will not open at all. It looks like it will and then it doesn't (the windows loading symbol appears and then it disappears). I even tried uninstalling iTunes and downloading it again and installing it, nothing works! Please Help!

    1. First check if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    2. If that fails, refer to following article to remove SC Info.lib file:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    3.  If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime.  START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REAPIR.
