Music in Finder vs. iTunes

not sure where to post this.
i was wondering if anyone can confirm to how mac os x renders/plays audio in the finder?
in os x 10.6.x, you can play audio files by clicking on the icon in the finder.
what i'm noticing is that my music files sound way better, louder, crisper and punchier than they do after i import them into itunes. i'm converting 320 kbps, playing with equalization, sound enhancer, etc...
i'm assuming it's just quicktime that is playing, but i thought QT was the engine for audio and video in all programs (final cut, etc.)...
i'm wondering why music sounds "worse" in itunes. the "raw" (unfilered) files played thru quicktime/finder sound so much brighter.
any ideas anyone?

i've tried all those combinations, turning on and off everything.
the closest i can come is going +12 dB on the pre-amp (in the eq settings) in itunes.
but it doesn't make sense to me why the finder or QT would default to that setting, and not itunes...since i have no adjustments in either.
the reverse would make sense (default finder/qt would be unfiltered and itunes would give you the option).

In VIEWING (to print) my iTunes music (in finder), how can i view subfolders without clicking on the  triangle of each main folder?
I am trying to print a list of all my music. For example, main folder is BEATLES.  Subfolders are Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, etc...
and I want to view and print all the subfolders. This is a recovery project after my hard drive failed. I know this is truly a "finder" question and will double post there.
    Thanks.

Many thanks JEM24 for your help.  Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone  the actual cost of each additional  gigabyte of storage  to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. Many thanks again though for helping me.

Lists the supported formats for quicktime.  If the movie you downloaded isn't one of these, you could search for a conversion program that could output a supported format.

  • I need to find out how to transfer all the music from my old IPOD to my new IPOD.  Not all of my music was purchased on ITUNES.

I need to find out how to transfer all my music from my original IPOD nano to my new IPOD nano.   I want to keep both and not all of my music was purchased on ITUNES.  Please help!

Your music should be in your iTunes library, that is how it gets synced to the iPod. If that music is not present in the iTunes library, you will need to get a 3rd party software for the computer to get the music off the original iPod and then move it to the iTunes library to be able to sync it to the new iPod. You can see some additional information in this tip supplied by a fellow user. Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

I have turned two computers on to home sharing. I am now on this computer wanting to put my music on to this itunes and i know i need to find the other computer in the drop down menu from " Home Sharing " but that menu isnt there on the left?

If you have the horizontal menu bar showing (File, Edit, View,...), select View, then select Show Sidebar.
If the menu bar is not showing, dorp down the menu in the very upper left corner and select show menu bar, then follow steps above.
    Hope that helps.  Good luck.

    Hi jdog44,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  iTunes Radio should be accessible from the bottom of the Music app screen as shown in this article:
    About iTunes Radio
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5848
You could try completely closing the Music app:
iOS: Force an app to close

    A restart may also help:

  • I just exported some music from Amazon to iTunes but now I can't find my original iTunes music. How can I find them?

I just exported some music from Amazon to iTunes but now I can't find my original iTunes music. How can I find them?

I did this by going into the folder where the Amazon MP3's were and copied the link into iTunes under the add file link in the menu. This music was purchased before I had an iTunes account so I wasn't aware that they could've been automatically exported. I still have the iTunes MP3s on my iPhone. Could I sync them over or something to that extent because I can't find the files at all even when doing a system search.

  • I need to find my iTunes Music folder!

I'm a Final Cut Express user, recently upgraded from Tiger to Mountain Lion and then partway back to Snow Leopard, which is working with my FCE 3.5.  Now I need access to my music,  which I manually imported from my CDs five years ago, and use for soundtracks (these are underwater videos.)
I thought I had backup - I use Carbon Copy Cloner and have bootable clones of both Tiger and Mountain Lion, which should contain the iTunes Music Folder.  But the folders I can find don't seem to contain any tracks.
Before I make the (probably correct) assumption that I somehow never did have the music backed up, I'd appreciate any ideas about where to look besides Library & Users folders.  I do still have all the CDs - probably wouldn't take more than a few weeks...
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Sharron

Well, I did find the iTunes Music folder on the Tiger clone (MBP had to be booted up from the clone to access the folder) and figured out where Snow Leopard's iTunes wanted its music imported  (the Automatically Move to iTunes folder).  Couldn't move the whole Music Folder at once, though it's only about 11GB, but I could move whole albums over in bunches & got about 1/3 of the music transferred in a couple of hours, alternating startup drives to shovel it along.
The transferred music worked OK - I converted tracks to AIFF for a FCE soundtrack, inserted them in a sequence, fiddled around with simple fades etc. Began to feel confident.  But then Snow Leopard started crashing - can't imagine it has anything to do with iTunes.
I've had about as  much of this as I can enjoy, as the fox said...
But I do appreciate your clarification of the storage habits of iTunes.
