Music in my folders are .tmp

I recently created a new Apple ID and when I synced my Ipod some songs were deleted. I went into my documents folder to see if the music was still there, but all of the missing songs were deleted. In some of the folders there are .tmp files, but I took the songs right off CDs. I tried restoring a previous version of my Itunes library and my music documents but neither one helped. Is there any way to fix this problem?

  • Personally loaded music is gone, folders are there but empty.

Updated to iTunes 10, now all my personally loaded music is gone; the folders are all there but every song is gone. All my iTunes purchases are fine, just all the music I've loaded for 3 years is gone.

  • Itunes music and media folders are different on different computers

I have a Macbook and the iTUNES music is in the /users/name/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music. Music is loaded directly into the iTunes Music folder. There is not an additional music folder under this folder.
On my IMAC the music is as follows /users/name/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media. Under the iTunes Media folder there is an additional folder called Music where the music has been placed. Why does one computer have the additional Music folder and one does not? Should they be all the same?
All preference settings are the same and all music plays fine in either scenario.

Your macbook is using the "old" way of organizing media. Your iMac is using the new way.
First make sure the macbook is running up to date software. then in itunes select
File (in menu bar) - Library - Organize library - then click on "upgrade to iTunes Media organization", then OK. It should make it look like your imac

  • I just updated my Mac Mini to the newest version of itunes and itunes no longer reconizes my external hard drive as my storage for itunes. All of my music, movies, playlist, etc. are found on my itunes. Help I'm about to punch something!!!

I had some updates for my mac mini and so I updated and when it reboot I checked iTunes and all of my data was gone. I have a 2TB External HDD that contains all of my iTunes data and before the latest Sept. 2012 iTunes  update I had the folder located in the advanced tab of itunes located on my external HDD. After the reboot and the new iTunes software was installed it defalted to my HDD on my mini and nothing that was there before the update was no longer there. All of my music, playlists, podcasts, folders, movies etc. was gone. I have redirected the library file locating back to my external HDD but it still is not working. HELP!!!!

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Windows images, but you get the point. Depending on the age of your library the library file might not include the .itl extention. Make it match the file you are replacing.
See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.

  • FOLDERS ARE MISSING-on ipod but not on i-tunes any advice?

HI I have been trying to get my ipod updated and it seems as though my folders are missing on my ipod but not on my itunes.
I was using itunes 4.7 with my 4 button ipod(not sure the generation maybe 3rd) and I just updated to itunes 7 hoping to fix the problem. I am still getting the same error message that says my ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Elena

I am still getting the same error message that says my ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist.
while the ipod is plugged in and showing up in the sourcelist, click on the "Music" tab.
you will currently have "Selected playlists" selected. go through the list of playlists beneath that, comparing them with the playlists that appear in your itunes sourcelist. uncheck any that no longer appear in the itunes sourcelist. check the playlists that you do want to sync to the ipod. click apply.

  • Some photo folders in my Windows Photo Gallery are listed in iTunes when I sync my iPhone 3GS but the folders are empty

Some photo folders in my Windows Photo Gallery are listed in iTunes when I sync my iPhone 3GS but the folders are empty.  The same photo folders in Windows Photo Gallery are full of photos. How do I fix this?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

The format says Mac OS Extended.  All of the settings were set during the disk image restore process.  Even if I format the flash drive as extended journaled or some other format, all of these settings are reverted when I do the restore from the disk image.  I will just copy all of the information that disk utility has so that you can see it.

  • Too many files in Music and ITunes folders

I'm backing up my computer and found that the Music folder had 80gb of music. Theres my space issue I've been trying to solve.
In our home we have two iPod Touches and two iPhones. We have three different libraries and two different apple accounts.
It has a copy of the music in all the different libraries along with the original in the Music folder.
I need help simplifying my folders. Does it have to copy each file to each library? What files can I delete without causing issues? The iTunes library ones?
And once these folders are trimmed down, how can I prevent this from happening again?

I'm not having an issue sharing the music, that's already set up. The problem is that everyone's own pod/phone has it's own folder with the music files in it that itunes saves to when we add songs. At some point I must have checked it to "organize" albeit make lots of copies of the same files.
For instance, I'll have an album by Tom Petty.
That file will be in my Public/Music folder, as well as Public/Music/Itunes Library 1, 2, and 3. Cause my iphone/ipod has it's own sync/set up, as do the others in the family.
I want to delete this excess, but all of the files in my itunes library are pointing to those specific libraries (within the public music folder), so if I went in and deleted, it looks like I'll bjork my library.
But I don't want to have the Tom Petty albums saved four times on my pc. I want to keep our own libraries, I'm not interested in having all the Camp Rock soundtracks on my phone, but I don't want the music saved so many times.
How would I do this? And begin to remove all these files to a more reasonable folder size?

  • Reimaged computer...now all Playlist Folders are GONE!

I had to reimage my computer recently and I reinstalled iTunes and all my songs. But when I imported all my songs they all went into the music folder and all of my playlist folders are gone.
Do I need to recreate all the playlist folders and resort every song??? Or is there an easier way of doing this???

    Whatever you did, reverse it.
What instructions did you read that said to enable root to do this?

  • HT203167 Purchased music disappearing from folders on my PC

I'm finding that certain music purchased and even recently played keeps disappearing from my PC. The folders are where they should be and have been for years, but the actual music files are gone. Searching my computer does not help. I can find them in the ITunes store, and play them from the Store which shows them as purchased. But I cannot download them.
My user name has not changed. And some purchases remain without the mysterious issues. What's the problem here?

I don't know, but Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy before anything else disappears.

  • Can't make symbolic links for Documents, Music, Movies, Pictures folders?

So, on my previous setup, which was also running 10.5 I was able to create symbolic links for my Documents,Music, Movies and Pictures folders so those files could be stored on an 2nd hard drive.
However, today I'm setting up my new Mac Pro and I try to remove those folders and create the symbolic links and it tells me that permissions are denied.
Can anyone tell me why this would be different on the Intel Mac than it was on my PowerMac G5? How can I get around it?

those folders are protected by "deny delete" ACLs to prevent accidental deletion.
you can remove the ACLs using
    chmod -N ~/Documents ~/Music ~/Movies ~/Pictures
you'll then be able to delete them.

  • MY system folder, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac) How do I remove them

I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.8. I had a problem with my my operating system (my fault, I moved a file I shoudnt have) couldnt boot up but was able to boot up from a backup. I managed to repair my original system except now all the system folders, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac).  For the most part the dupes are an exact copy, but not always.  I want to remove them to free up space and cant imagine duplicate folders in the /system/library are not hindering my computer. But I dont know where to start and am afraid of doing irreparable damage. Any ideas

  • How can I delete a duplicate drive in the folders area?

Not sure how I ended up with a shared network drive duplicated under the folders area of Lightroom 3.6.  Maybe it was a user error but now my network drive where I have 15,000 pictures appears twice in the folder area and it is constantly updating (since there are quite a few pictures).
How can I delete the duplicated drive?  I have "removed" all the folders under the duplicated drive (and made it disappear) but the drive keeps coming back as the synchronization process will add all the folders that exist on that drive.
The two drives with "Volume_1" in the name are actually one shared network drive (I only have one).
I actually removed my network drive mapping (N:) to fix the problem but that did not even work; LR still found a duplicate name for the same network drive and started to synchronize (again). Help!!

I found pretty good super users and a solution here:
