Music in On this iPad tab is incorrect, how to update?

When syncing my iPad in iTunes the On This iPad tab is showing music that is no longer on the device (both greyed out songs and not), how do I update this section so it is correct?

Restore the iOS software on the iPad mini.
Backup the iPad, transfer purchases, restore to factory settings and then restore from the backup. That should fix your problem. Read this for the step by step instructions.

Ipad has songs in the "not on this ipad" tab that I can't download

Hi,
I have an iPad 3 and I have noticed there are now 25 songs in the "Not on this iPad" tab in iTunes. I have selected the download option but they still remain.
The songs appear to be in my library and on my iPad so how do I get rid of them from this tab.
The only reason I can maybe see is where I have downloaded 2 albums by the same artist and the same song is on both albums, could this be the case?

Save your photo stream photos to your camera roll by opening the my photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll. Then you can import them to your computer using your usb cable, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
If you want them streamed to your computer, you have to sign into your iCloud account and enable photo stream, as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html. However, you will only receive photo stream photos from the last 30 days as older photos are no longer in iCloud (even though they may be on your iPad).

You can't, and Apple won't unlock that device for you; the activation lock is an anti-theft measure. Take it to the police, or if you found it in a facility, the people running the facility.

HELP!!! Please!!! Music in "On This iPhone" tab is all grayed out

Hello guys, I am using iPhone 5, 64 GB with 7.0.3 iOS 7.
My problem at the beginning my songs won't show in Recently Added playlist then it developed to songs are not synced and I am left out with the rest songs.
I deleted all songs from my iPhone and tried to re-sync again but nothing is downloaded in my device.
The music app shows no content! I went to iTunes and opened on this iPhone tab and all songs were there but grayed out with dotted circle in front of them!!!
I tried everything: sync and re-sync, delete songs and re-sync, restart iPhone and Mac. WiFi sync,......
I am panicking and I don't to restore my phone.
By the way I am using Mavericks on my macbook pro with the latest iTunes 11.1.2!
Anyone can help? Please?!

the problem is still remaining even with 7.0.4 and the latest itunes (I don't remember the version)
this is really furstrating and I'm sick of my iPhone!
I don't think I will ever buy a new iPhone again after this huge pain! I think this is my last iPhone for life!

Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
Settings>FaceTime
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
If y do not want to use the common ID then:

- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.

I am trying to sync my 2nd generation ipod touch (2.2.1) after almost 3 years in Windows 7 machine. I installed itunes, but when I try to (Store-> Authorize this Computer), it asks for my apple id credentials. After entering details when i click "Authorize" it takes hours, displaying message-"Accessing itunes store". I had forgotten my password and i am using the new password i reset using "forgot password" link in apple website. Please advise how to authorize and upgrade my ios
I am able to access the music, pictures and video files but not able to add new files or update the apps

To authorize you have to log into the account.
Try rebooting the computer
Powering off and then back on your router.

Books on iPad not shown under iPad tab in iTunes

For some reason existing ebooks on my iPad mini are not visible under the "Books" sidebar entry inside iTunes, under the "On This iPad" tab. I can add books to iBooks on the iPad by dragging them to the iPad icon inside iTunes, and the books transfer OK; they simply are not shown in the list in iTunes. I have another iPad which works fine, i.e. books on the iPad shows up in the list; same with an iPhone which works correctly. Alldevices have synch switched off so I manually add books (and music; music list works fine on all of them so it is only books having the problem).
This is frustrating since it means I cannot remove books from the iPad using iTunes. Deleting all the books on the iPad (by doing it inside the iBooks app on it), deleting the iBooks app itself, rebooting, and then re-adding books does not help. Also, the iPad in questio was recently reset using an iCloud backup which did not change the situation.
So any ideas why my iTunes insists there are no books on this particular iPad, even though iTunes happily transfers them?

Firstly, make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
Secondly, try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
Thirdly, if you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.

Is this when updating apps or the iPad's iOS version ? If apps then any apps that your daughter downloaded onto the iPad will be tied to her account, so only her account can download updates to those apps (you would need to delete the apps and buy/download them with your own account to be able to download future updates to them with your account) then she could try getting her password reset via http://iforgot.apple.com
If you are trying to update the iOS version on it and she's left it tied to her iCloud account then with iOS 7 and activation lock only her account will be able to re-activate the iPad. She can try getting her password reset via the above iforgot link.

Sometimes when I open the music app on my iPad the playlist icons blink, is this happening to you and what can be done

I did try a safe boot once before, which didn't stop the occurrences. I can try it again to make sure, and see if the problem stops happening.
Never installed extra audio or plug-ins, though.
It happened just once not long after I bought the mid-2013 MBA, which I think came with 10.8.4, but I assumed the noise was because I was moving the computer around on a surface that created static, since the noise stopped after I picked it up off the surface. However, that must have just been a coincidence, because it happens more frequently now without moving or touching anything.
Trying the safe-mode boot and restart, and testing it out for day or so to see if it happens again.
