Music in the cloud not 256Kbps

In an attempt to upgrade music quality I've deleted a lot of old songs that are at 128Kbps.  Yet in the cloud, and when I download them, they stay at 128Kbps.  These are well known artists like Aerosmith.
Why are they not downloading as 256Kbps?

Only Matched songs will be available for download at 256Kbps.  Open iTunes, go to the View menu, select View Options... and put a check mark next to iCloud Status (middle column).  Then in iTunes scroll all the way to the right.  Here you will see which songs are matched and which are uploaded.  If a song is uploaded (rather than matched) you will only be able to download the original file that was uploaded and the higher quality 256Kbps version will not be available for download.

You cannot yet transfer music from your system to iCloud. That capability will come with iTunes Match, expected any day now though probably not initially in all countries. iTunes Match will also not be a free service.

  • Music in the cloud not showing up

This is really starting to get frustrating. Apple needs to get their crap together. I can't access any of my music in the cloud. The "Hide items in the cloud" is greyed out. There are no cloud icons next to my music or movies, local content only. I know this isn't the place but since a few days ago my iMessages and been screwed up horrendously. It's like I've got two complete different converstations going on between OSX and iOS. Seriously?! What is going on Apple?! I'm usually the one defending but this is rediculous. Get your crap together!

Man, I was pretty upset last night. Nothing seemed to be working right. The View -> SHowed items in the cloud was greyed out. It was the Preferences -> Store. For some reason it became unselected after updating to 11.01 which is weird. Thanks Steve.

  • I have downloaded all my music from the cloud to my new iPhone and created playlists so I can listen to it when not it wifi like when on a plane. If I turn on iTunes Match will I still have this music still downloaded?

I have downloaded all my music from the cloud to my new iPhone and created playlists so I can listen to it when not it wifi like when on a plane. If I turn on iTunes Match will I still have this music still downloaded? The online information suggests all my music will be replaced. Will I have to download it again??

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an iTunes "account."  The account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use to sign in to the iTunes Store and make purchases.  It is also used with iCloud.  iPods (that are not iPod touch) are associated with your iTunes library, not to your Apple ID.
So, I think you probably just need to set up (or update) automatic syncing for the iPod.  If it's not set up to sync those new songs, iTunes still syncs the iPod, but it syncs nothing
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the iPod appears under DEVICES, when it is connected.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music (if it's not already checked).  If your iTunes music library fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  On the lists below, checkmark the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod.  When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.
One convenient way to set this up (if you can't sync the entire iTunes music library) is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library.  Name it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want).  Put ALL songs that you want on the iPod on this playlist, including those new songs.  Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select this playlist under Playlists.  Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod.

  • HT204053 I have iCloud turned on, but when I go to iTunes, I do not see any music with the cloud.

I have iTunes turned on, but do not see any music from the cloud (with the little cloud prefix in front of the song) on my MacBook Pro.

iCloud only allows you to access your music from iCloud in two ways.  First, you can redownload music previously purchased from the iTunes store (in many countries), as outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519.  Second, you can access your iTunes library from iCloud (up to 25,000 songs) if you subscribe to iTunes Match.  See http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/.

You aren't addressing Apple here.  This is a user to user technical support forum.
If you are trying to get a refund for iTunes Match, try calling the Apple online store (1-800-MYAPPLE in the U.S.).

whats up with that I have one beatles song and one kenny chesney also

Mate, I'm trying to find out if it was shipped like that or not. If someone else has had the same issue then I can go back to Apple and have them look into it further. If not then as I said Vodafone is selling second hand phones and they will have to replace the phone.
Vodafone account manager is saying that he has never heard of anything like it.
So I'm left with one of 3 answers.
1: The phone was shipped like that so its a factory error.
2: The Apple genius doesn’t know what he's talking about then I can go back to the store and ask for a second opinion.
3: Vodafone is selling second hand phones as new.
I need to narrow it down so I can deal with the account manager appropriately

  • Error 3131: Will not download my music from the cloud

Just got a new mac and it partially downloaded my music from the cloud but when I try to finish downloading it gives me Error 3131. I have tried logging out and back in, as well as quitting iTunes and restarting.

Make sure you have the latest software updates for OS X and iTunes, if you aren't sure how to do that take a look at this Apple doc -> OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps.
If that doesn't take care of it, try following along with this Apple doc -> iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads

    Where are iTunes files located?
No, I do not mean just the music.  Copying just the media/music files or the media folder creates problems.

  • I've just downloaded itunes on a new computer, and I'm downloading music from the cloud, but it seems to stick on certain songs and won't download them at all, stopping at a certain point. How do I get round this?

    Hi all,
I've just downloaded itunes onto a new computer, and I'm currently downloading previously owned music from the cloud. However, it keeps sticking on various songs - it will get part of the way through and just stop, this seems to happen to about 1 in 10 songs. How do I get round this?
Also, once I've finished dowloading from the cloud, how do I get my library to display only the songs I've downloaded, and not all the other ones that I don't want anymore?
    Cheers, Alex

On the new laptop, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

  • How can I safely transfer my 125GB of itunes music files to free up space, but still keep itunes on my MBP, and access the music with the cloud and match?

I have already backed up all the itunes files on two different external drives. And I have already set up icloud and itunes match. I am still paranoid about deleting the files from my MBP, but I need to free the space. What steps should I take to delete the files. And can I still keep itunes (w/o all the music files) on my laptop and access the music from the cloud? I know I can run them with the external drive plugged in, but looking for a way to do it w/o pluggin in.

I have tried that as well.  The purchased songs are not in my playlists and they are still there.  I manually deleted them on the phone but the sync puts them right back on there.
I only sync playlists and they aren't on there.

  • HT4914 If I use I tunes match and have all my music on the cloud, will I be able to listen to it, meaning will it be on my device when I am without a cell or wifi signal....like on a plane or in an area without service?

If I choose to use I tunes match, and store my music on the cloud, will I be able to access it when I don't have a cell signal or wifi?  For example, when I'm on a plane or in an area without a cell signal or wifi.  And, if its just cellular coverage, will it count as "data" against my limit?

Yes, it would count against your data.  The transfer part is part of your cellular coverage, whether it be from Apple's iCloud or a totally unrelated feed.
iTunes match - http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ - see FAQ at end too
"Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?
On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button. iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they download and will store them so that you can listen to them later even if you don’t have a network connection. Apple TV only streams songs."
So, from the above, if you are sitting in an airplane and suddenly decide you want to listen to a song that has not downloaded to your device then you will have to wait until you can use your service again (or pay the airline to use their wireless).

I have all my CDs on my iPod, my old laptop crashed. How can I get my music to the cloud and/or my iPad

Really don't want to have to reload it all again

  • Why can't I play music from the cloud on my laptop?

So I recently uploaded all my music in the iCloud from my PC Desktop computer in hopes that I could play this music remotely from my laptop. Unfortunatly, it's saying I can't within 40 days when I turn on iMatch. So what's the problem? Do I need to wait 40 days in order to play music in the cloud on other devices? Or is it saying I can never play music from other computers even if I sign in with my own Apple ID?

I know you're saying that, but I can't think of a reason why you would be getting a warning that you couldn't play music within 40 days of turning on iTunes Match unless you changed IDs.  This article explains this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627.
If you feel you are getting this in error, try contacting iTunes store support and ask them what's going on, by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click iTunes>iTunes Store>Other iTunes Store Topics>The topic is not listed.
