Music is disappearing off of my iPod?

Hi. About 2 months ago I purchased the new iPod touch, and I dumped all of my synced CD's onto it (which I no longer have, by the way). It was fine for about a month, but then all of a sudden I noticed that I was losing songs. And it wasn't only specific songs, like songs I hadn't purchased off of iTunes or anything, it was only random songs that I had synced onto it, off of random albums. Pretty soon I'd gone from around 200 songs to like, 180. And this just seemed to continue, until one day I checked my library and I only had 11 songs left. It literally went from around 150 to 11. I have no idea what's causing this, I never sync my iPod to iTunes. What do you think could be the problem?

I don't know what the problem is but you've certainly identified the reason why you will be unable to recover your music.

  • Will all of my Music be gone off of my Ipod?

My brother bought a new computer because the old one broke , I think he has some data from the old computer though. I did not purchase anything from Itunes , I just have my music from Winamp. If I press transfer purchases from a New Itunes program , Will it have all of my music? Or will it delete it all?
I have a Third Generation Ipod Nano 8gb. If it'll delete everything , Is there something that will make me be able to transfer my music to Itunes???

*I did not purchase anything from Itunes,,,,,,,, If I press transfer purchases from a New Itunes program , Will it have all of my music?*
If you haven't any iTunes purchases on the iPod then Transfer Purchases isn't relevant to your situation. Transfer purchases won't transfer any other material than files from the iTunes Store.
*Is there something that will make me be able to transfer my music to Itunes???*
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Voice memos disappear off iphone 4 & ipod nano 5th after syncing to mac

hi. i record voice memos on my ipod nano 5th gen and when i sync the nano to my mac they are in itunes on my mac but not on my ipod anymore. they completely disappear from the nano. there is a v.m. playlist i can see on itunes for the ipod but they are grayed out and do not show up at all on the ipod. i can play them on my mac though. since i would like to have my v.m. on a portable device i tried copying them from itunes on my mac to my iphone 4 and have had strange results. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't or a few will copy. the playlist doesn't copy to the iphone at all but if i go to the v.m. app on the phone a few will be there. help! how can i get my v.m. that are now all on my mac to one of my portable devices? thanks in advance.

nevermind. somehow now they are showing up in a music playlist on my nano. not sure if i just missed that as i was looking under extras > voice memos and not music playlists. i'm a happy camper now.

  • I had itunes installed on a notebook, then installed on my new notebook and now all my music has disappeared off my iphone 5. ANd when i tried updating itunes on old notebook it didn't install. Help

I had itunes installed on my old ACer and went to install itunes on my new HP. It has removed all my music from my phone.and when I tried earlier to update itunes on old acer it wouldn't install properly.
    help.

While that may work9I do not think it will) with iTunes purchased music it will not work for other music.
    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - For other music you will need a third-party program like one of those discussed here.

  • My iPhone music has disappeared?

Hey all. I'm new here and I apologize if this has been asked before.
All of my music has disappeared off of my iPhone. It's all still there and taking up space, but I can't access it from my iPhone.
If I go into the settings, and it still shows that the memory space is being taken up but it says I have 0 songs.
I'm confused and concerned. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I subscibed to ITunes Match and all my music has disappeared from my Ipod touch and will only play through WiFi so I cannot play music in my car. How do I get it back please

You'll need to switch off iTunes Match on the device & sync the iPod with iTunes as hopefully you've kept all your music on your PC.

  • ITunes deletes all the music off of my iPod. Why?

iTunes is being a huge piece of crap. I want it to sync my songs onto my iPod Touch 4G. Instead, it decides to delete all 5500+ songs off of my iPod... twice. Once, I managed to put the songs back on, this takes over an hour and a half, then it deletes them again the next day. HELP ME PLEASE! I AM SO MAD WITH THE SERVICE I AM GETTING!

If the songs are removed from your iPod at a Sync, then presumably, you have a setting somewhere that is causing this.
First of all, you are not trying to Sync with two different Libraries, are you? The iPod is designed to Sync with one Library only, if you try to connect your iPod to a different computer (with a second Library), then all the original content will be removed.
Then - when the iPod is connected to your iTunes Library, check on the Device/Summary pane and confirm that the Sync Music is "on" and Entire music library is also "on".
If neither of these steps provides a solution, walk us through whatever you are doing when the music disappears from your iPod.

  • I have a problem with my iPod touch 5th gen. When connected to my computer my music playlist will show and play no problem. When I disconnect my iPod from my computer go into my music, my music playlist disappears. Do anyone have a solution. Thank U!

I have a problem with my iPod touch 5th gen 64GB. When I connect my iPod to my Mac Book Pro laptop my music that I've transferred to my iPod and music playlist will appear in my iTunes my music will play with no problem. Now, when I disconnect my iPod from my computer go into my music, my music playlist and music I've downloaded into my iPod disappears. I reconnect my iPod to my computer, everything shows. Do anyone have a solution I really do appreciate it. Thank You!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, there seems to be a bug in iOS 8 or iTunes 12.1.1 that cause this problem and I have not seen a solution

  • HT1420 I want to transfer music off an old iPod but it says it comes from an older version of itunes Store and won't let me transfer to the new store.

I want to tranfer music off my old iPod but it says I can't because the music is linked to a different version of iTunes store. What do I need to do?

Found a resolution. Got a FREE introductory offer from the net and used it to download my music to my computer and then could drag over to iTunes.

  • Does anyone have suggestions for a legitimate file extracting program? I need to get music off my old IPod (the ITunes it's on is on an old computer that no longer works) and onto my new computer so I can download it to my new IPod.

    Thank you!

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

Is there any way for me to get my music off of my iPod? I had to get a new computer and no longer have my files, most of it is cds...

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this excellent user tip from another forum member turingtest2 outlining the different methods and software available to help you copy content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library. If you sync with another iTunes library/computer the media from the iPod will be deleted and replaced with the media on the second computer.
