Music is not supported on this 2nd gen iPod

Why is it that half my daughter's music is not supported on this 2nd gen iPod shuffle? These songs worked fine for years and now are gone. They work on iPad, iPhone (2nd and 3rd gen), and iPod classic 2nd gen. I tried reformating to ACC version- no Help.

The Mac mini has, I believe, a special build of 10.8.2 later than the version you can install on any other system, so you will not be able to boot the 2012 mini from a boot drive from any earlier model of Mac. There probably won't be a "universal" version until OS X 10.8.3 is released, whenever that might occur. If you want to use the SSD as a boot drive, you'll have to install the 2012 mini's version of 10.8.2 on the SSD, either by booting to the 10.8 Recovery Partition and installing 10.8 or by cloning the 2012 mini's internal drive to the SSD.

  • I recently burned 2 cds of music onto itunes, the first cd of music synced and appears on my 2nd gen ipod touch, the 2nd cd only appears in the itunes library and will not sync

    Ipod not syncing
I tried to burn 2 cd's worth of music and two things happened:
    1. 1st CD synced with my Ipod, but only as an album (touch 2nd gen) but, disappeared from itunes.
    2. 2nd CD appears in my library but will now sync to my ipod
I have space left and am not at the 4GBgb limit.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem with my 2nd gen itouch.
I've tried other computer and my childrens iPods work on my computer so not a windows problem.  I've tried reinstalling iTunes and resetting itouch as per apple support pages but nothing, it doesn't even show on my computer. Any help greatly appreciated :-)

  • HD Video's Won't Play on 2nd Gen Ipod Touch

I recently bought a 2nd gen ipod touch, i had owned one before, but that was when HD videos were basically just starting, so i had never had problems with getting tv shows on my ipod, i have recently downloaded 2 HD episodes of Family Guy, but whenever i try to put them on my ipod an error comes up that they aren't a supported format, is there a way i can trade these HD versions for SD versions, or a way that i can get a converter that can put them in the right format? (When i looked on itunes, i only saw hd episodes, because it was season 9 of family guy, i have no clue if there are any SD versions, so a converter would be the most helpful)

HD is NOT supported on the 2nd gen ipod touch.
Every time you download HD content, the SD version automatically is downloaded as well. Sync this version, not the HD version.
I would guess that there is an SD version/ Look more closely.

  • My ipod touch 3rd gen doesnt work on usb charger but on dock it says "Charging is not supported with this device" How do I fix it?

I'm taking it in to get it looked at but will they cover this? And is there a way to fix it before I take it in. I'm still under the 1 year warranty plan. My friend said that they might exchange it. It's a 64GB and I use it for a lot of things like my picture, music, contacts, and email. It's got scratches on the back but other wise its ok the screen isn't cracked or scratched.
I have a usb charger for it but when I plug it into the PC or my wall charger it won't charge. It just says  "Charging is not supported with this device". It even says that sometimes when it's not charging. But it works on a dock station like my clock or radio.
Also my home buttom won't work unless I press down real hard. This scares me because I'm afraid I wil persss it too hard and break it even more.
    Please help.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Try plugging it up to your computer and launching iTunes and either resetting it to factory settings or resetting to last sync. Hopefully it just noticing it's plugged up to iTunes will fix it. This happened to my friend once and all she had to do was plug it into her computer and that fixed it.

  • Why does my iPod(3rd gen) say charging is not supported with this accessory even though its not plugged in?

I was eating breakfast one morning playing a game on my iPod and it slipped out of my hand and into my cereal bowl. So immediately I took off the case and put in a bag of rice for a day and a half to let it dry out. Then when it started working again (thankfully) a notification popped up saying charging is not supported with this accessory after I unplugged it from the wall. So I thought nothing of it and pressed dismiss. Now when ever I wake it up, instead of my wallpaper popping up in the lock screen that stupid notification does. How can I get rid of it? Also my home button doesn't work anymore so I have to use asisstive touch instead. How do I take a screen shot without the assisting touch menu in the way? Thank you.

    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • HT1918 Everytime I try to purchase music I get.... Update payment method PayPal is not supported on this device.... Help!!!!

I can't purchase songs any longer using ITunes. The message I receive is Paypal is not supported by this device. Problem with previous payment update acct info. ... I did update acct info! Help?????

I had this same problem also.  The problem has to do with your credit card number associated with you iCloud account.  To solve this problem, you need to update your credit card/payment information by doing the following on your iPad / iPhone / iTouch:
Settings > iCloud > click on your account > Payment Information
Update this section with your correct credit card information and Save.

  • I can't see songs on 2nd gen ipod classic and no there is no "on this ipod"

I cannot access contents of ipod 2nd gen classic.  Summary - music - movies etc photos - info and the blue button DONE.  The ipod is full and I can't upload podcasts.  Every one who helps, and others asking this question are all told to click "on this ipod" but that is not an option among the itunes pull down menus.
I fear Apple inc wants to force me away from my perfectly functional 2nd gen ipod by not supporting it properly in itunes.

I don't understand what this means.

Remove something from the iPod then.

What question? You've simply made a few random statements, the meaning of which appears to be lost in translation (to me anyway!).
You need to be more specific.
Do you use Sync to manage your iPod? If so, make changes in your iTunes Library, that will remove some media from the iPod at the next Sync, thus leaving room for the Podcasts.
Then connect the iPod to your iTunes Library and look on the iPod/Podcasts pane. (I assume that your reference to "on this iPod" is related to this step.) Do you mean this?...
or, if you have the Sidebar turned on,  this....
Whichever screen you have, click on the device, and then look on the Podcasts pane and choose the option to Sync Podcasts to your iPod. You may need to click on Sync (if you made your choice after iTunes has reached the Podcasts step).
If this does not address your issue, try alittle less drama and a bit more information about which steps you have made, and what did not happen that you expected to happen. Then we might get somewhere.

  • 2nd gen ipod shuffle will charge with one computer (vista) but not the other computer (windows 8).  Please help!

My 2nd gen ipod shuffle will charge on my old vitsta computer but not my new windows 8 computer. Does anyone know why that might be? The new computer recognizes the ipod and I can see everything on it, change settings, etc. it just won't charge. Is there a reason as to why this should be happening?

Just bought a refurbished 2nd generation ipod
shuffle. I am running the very latest version of OS X
and iTunes on an iBook G3 600 mhz with the slower USB
ports, not 2.0 ports. The ipod mounts and is
regognized by itunes, but I cannot seem to register
the ipod from itunes, it always has an error message
when I submit to register (all forms are filled out
correctly). The registration window in iTunes shows
that this ipod is formatted for Windows (from the
previous owner I assume) and may be causing my
    problems?
No. ALL shuffles are FAT32 format.
The other problem is that it will not sync and
transfer any music from itunes library. I am trying
to transfer simple mp3 files that should be compliant
with the ipod specs. No luck even after multiple
restarts on the ipod. Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you.

  • 2nd Gen Ipod will sync with itunes but will not download new song

My Ipod will sync with itunes but will not download newly purchased songs.  It is Ipod nano 2nd gen.

If you want to use automatic syncing, you may need to set up or update the iPod's Music sync settings in iTunes.  If the new songs are not included in what gets synced to the iPod, they will not sync.
If the sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Select it there, to show its Summary screen to the right.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music, if not already checked. This is the "switch" to enable automatic syncing for songs.
NOTE:  If Sync Music is not already checked, that means the iPod is currently set to Manually manage music.  Setting up automatic syncing will replace the iPod existing content.  If you want to add the new songs manually to the iPod (instead of using automatic syncing), please post back.
If your iTunes library fits on the iPod, you can choose the option to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, select (checkmark) what you want to sync to the iPod from the lists.
One convenient way to set this up is to first create one or more playlists in your iTunes library, with ALL of the songs you want on the iPod.  Or you can use existing playlists.  Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select those playlists under Playlists.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs the songs in your selection(s) to the iPod (replacing its existing content).  Going forward, to update the iPod, you can just update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  If you have new songs, add them to a playlist that is synced to the iPod.  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the iPod (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes automatically updates your iPod with the same changes.

few days after that i started getting the message "charging is not supported using this accessoty" then i upgraded to 4.2.
since then i can hardly charge my phone. i have used the original cable(s) and wall socket(s) supplied by apple but its not working.
    please halp

I have recently purchased an ipod touch 4th Gen, 64Gb device and have used it without issue, including charging with a cable I purchased from K-mart which was better designed and more robust than the ones that come with the ipod. I used this cable for years with my 2nd Gen Ipod and my partners 3rd Gen Ipod (touch) without any problems either.
Then, one day it just started to happen, not with the older ipods, just my new one and only when using the computer. Charging it on my My friends computer with the same cable is fine and my wall charger is fine and the older ipods on my computer are fine when also charged on that same cable. I don't care what apple says, it's either a glitch in the programming or a move to stop people from using 3rd party hardware by chipping everything they have in sight to scrape up extra cash and then telling the devices not to perform task unless the chip is detected.

  • 2nd gen ipod touch sleep/wake button will not work

Like the title says, the sleep/wake button (top button) doesn't work on my 2nd gen ipod touch. In short, I can't put it into sleep mode (I have to wait the one minute), turn it off to save the battery, take screenshots, or even reset it (without iTunes, anyways).
I don't have any guesses on why it's not working. It just stopped working one day. I don't see water damage (via the water damage detector in the earbud jack), and I don't think I dropped it in a way that would harm it (unless dropping it on carpet counts).
I should also mention that randomly, one day after school, I was messing with it, and the button worked. I think the battery had died, and I managed to turn it on then. It worked for a few hours (I charged the battery), and then it went back to not working.
The warranty's up (and I'm broke), so I can't repair it. I also want to point out that the problem started not long after the warranty expired. What, at this point, is my best option? Should I just save up for the newest model? Or would it be cheaper and more efficient to save up just enough for a repair? Any other options I should consider?
    Thanks in advance.

As I said, you can move on to Restore. Backup everything then Restore as New. Restoring from backup would just copy whatever software issue you may have. But it sure looks more and more like a hardware problem. Take a close look at the button to see if perhaps some dirt particles are stuck there.
You can also make an appointment with a Gnius at the nearest Apple store to have it diagnosed. Apple does not fix iPods, they just replace them with refurbished units, so it won't be cheap. Prices are here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
You can Google for third part repair hops or do-it-yoursel kits.
    Good luck.

  • 2nd gen iPod touch - Factory restore not working

I'm trying to factory restore my 2nd gen ipod touch.  I figured I could simply choose the factory reset in the setting and it would do it's thing.  Now it says it needs to connect to iTunes in order to complete the process.  However, when I plug my phone into my (windows) PC, iTunes doesn't recognize it.  It makes the normal sounds and starts charging, so I know the PC recognizes that it's connected, but iTunes will not.  now, I can't do anything on the ipod - it just sits there like a brick,   help!

Tap Settings > WiFi > your network name (or at least the one with the check mark). Tap the little blue > next to the name. Look at Device IP - if it starts with 169.x then your router has not issued you an IP address
You also should have "Renew Lease" and "Forget this Network" buttons. Try pressing Renew Lease to see if you then get a valid response from your router.
If this doesn't work you can try these things:
    1. Reboot your router (just unplug the power cord for a minute, then plug back in). If this doesn't fix it, try disabling security to rule that out.
    2. Reset the touch network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    3. When the touch restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
There is more troubleshooting info [in this support article|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398].
    Hope this helps.

  • Recording live music on 2nd Gen ipod nano

    Greetings-
I recently purchased a 2nd Gen ipod nano 4 gig. I'd like to be able to record live music, then load it in my computer. I obviously don't expect CD quality, just decent enough playback to be able to replay the music on my computer (using the Amazing Slow Downer, for example) to learn new tunes.
I would typically take it to an Irish music session, record the musicians then go home and try and learn the tunes.
    Suggestions for a microphone?
Is this done through the memo function of the ipod?
If y'all have experience doing that kind of thing, I'd appreciate your kind advice.

As Lougoose and others have said, the "Music Videos" folder is simply there by default in the iTunes software, and does not have to do with your nano having the ability to play videos or not.
If you'd like to let Apple know about this, as a possible feature in a future update of iTunes or iPod firmware, write your suggestion on these Feedback forms:

  • 2nd Gen iPod shuffle is not recognized by iTunes or computer

I read the other posts about people's 2nd Gen Ipod shuffles not being rcognized by iTunes or their computer, but none of them seemed to fit.
I have had my iPod shuffle for less than a week. Last time I had my iPod connected to iTunes in the "Settings" section I clicked "Do not automatically open iTunes and synch with iPod" or something along those lines. I assumed this meant iTunes wouldn't always open when I plugged it in to charge it.
However, now when I plug it into my computer, iTunes does not recognize it and I get a message from my computer that there is a "USB Device Not Recognized" and the error message reads: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." It shows up as an "Unrecognized Device". I have tried plugging it into a different USB port, and I have also downloaded the "Ipod Reset Utility" to try to reset it to it's factory settings, in case that would allow it to synch up with iTunes again. This does not work. Does anyone know why this is happening, or how I can get iTunes to recognize my iPod again? Thank you!

Brand new ipod shuffle (2nd gen). When I plug it into the USB port, a "Disk Insertion" prompt warning appears with the message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." The two options in the prompt window are 'Eject' or 'Ignore.'
Having read other message boards, I decided to plug it into a PC computer and re-formatted it with FAT 32 filing system, but the exact same thing still happens. My MacBook give me the same message when I plug the shuffle to the computer. iTunes does not recognize it that anything is plugged in either.
    Any suggestions?
