Music Library keeps reseting to ALL-ALL-ALL

I used to be able to pick an artist in my Library so that I could see what albums I have, then click back and forth between "Music" and "iTunes Store" to compare them.
I just installed update 7.3.1 (3) and now when I click back on Music the view reverts to Genre=ALL, Artist=ALL, Album=ALL.
This makes it difficult to see which albums I'm missing from an artist.

More info -
Music Library also resets to ALL-ALL-ALL when I click a playlist then back to Music. Makes it difficult to review past mix CDs when I'm trying to make a new one w/out including the same songs on it.
Also just tried this on my XP system in the office, it has the same problem.

Have no idea what you're talking about. There are no URLs involved with playing from your music library anywhere - on the phone speaker, hardwired speakers or Bluetooth,

• How can I delete multiple duplicate songs at one time? I would really like to wipe out my music library and just reinstall all files. Any Help is appreciated.

I am trying to cleanout my iTunes Music Library. I would prefer to wipeout the music library and then reinstall my music. I do not know how to delete multiple files besides doing one by one. Any help is much appreciated. Thank You.

• Music Library keeps defaulting to iTunes folder on Hard Drive

I have gone into advanced preferences and changed my iTunes folder to a folder on an external hard drive connected to my Airport. It works fine until there is n interruption in the connection. Then, the iTunes folder always defaults back to the original iTunes folder under Music on the hard drive. Because I have a very large music collection, it takes a good ten minutes to change back to the external folder. Also, because of the size of my collection, storing he music on my Mac is not an option.
This happens frequently because my airport connection frequently disconnects for a couple seconds and, then, automatically reconnects.
I have even attempted to trash the original iTunes folder but the computer just creates a new empty one to default to.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I have my iTunes Music Library on an external hard drive connected to of the three Macs on my home LAN. If the machine with external HD is not on and I launch iTunes on one of the other machines, the folder location reverts to the default location as you described. When I boot the host machine and then reestablish all the LAN connections, I simply relaunch iTunes on the other machines and they all happily find the correct Music Folder locations. A relaunch of iTunes is all that is required.
If you are playing iTunes and a relaunch is not possible, you need to look strengthening the Airport signal to avoid an interruption. I don't use any wireless setup so I'm not familiar with that procedure.

• IPhone 6 music library keeps being deleted

Every time I connect my iPhone to my Mac my music library vanishes off my phone except previously purchased songs. I have reinstalled iTunes 12 and restored my phone but it keeps happening. I have my iTunes set to manually manage my library. I will spend hours transferring songs from my library to my phone and they may stay on for a few days but then seven times out of 10 my music will disappear again except tunes I bought from iTunes. Anyone else have this problem or know how to resolve it? So frustrated. Thanks

I have had this problem a month ago. I just tried a 1000 things that did not work, then it started working. I think it's because Apple made iTunes really stupid. Pretty sure that's it.

• Synced music library keeps vanishing!

Since the recent update I have noticed that the synced music library on my AppleTV keeps vanishing as if I don't have any music on it. In order to get it back, I need to go to Shared Music and then back to My Music on the AppleTV menu. The problem happens severa times a day. I have tried rebooting the AppleTV (in fact I usually have to reboot it at least once a week due to the fact in freezes).
Is the instability caused by having a second computer sharing its iTunes library with the AppleTV? It's getting abit irritating when you have listened to an album and then go back to select another album and find the whole music library has disappeared.

This problem seems to have been fixed with update 2.3 which I've been using for a numbers of days now
Pity about some of the other new problems introduced with update 2.3 though

• Itunes music library is not showing all my music

I have a random problem with iTunes and I hope someone can help.
I have just under 1500 tracks on my macbook, all stored in the iTunes library folder where they should be. However, when I open iTunes, it says it cannot find the original file for loads of my music (there is a little '!' symbol on the left hand side).
I get the option to search for the original file and I just go to the iTunes library folder and there it is, along with all my other music that iTunes can see!
This is a random problem as when I open iTunes, its not always the same tracks it cant find, its always different ones.
It affects about 20% of my music each time.
Can anyone help?
Cheers, Jus

try this:
quit iTunes. move the following file to the desktop: <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/library/preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
fire up iTunes (which will create a new .plist file). if it works now you can trash the plist file you moved to the desktop.
if still no joy, here are some useful tools:
_*iTunes Track CPR v1.3*_
This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx)."
and
_*Music Folder Files Not Added v2.0*_
This application will list the file paths of the files in your designated "iTunes Media" folder which are not in iTunes' library. Additionally, you can select a different parent folder and its contents will be compared to the iTunes library. Options to Add a selection of found files to iTunes or move them to the Trash.

• Music library doesn't recognize all mp3 files

I have a nokia n97 with firmware 20. I have transferred an album of 66 mp3 songs to my mobile via mass storage, but only 58 songs show up in the music player library.
I can see the songs by using file manager; I can even play them from the file manager. I also tried and re-tried refreshing the library, in vain.
Any idea anyone?

I managed to work around the problem. Moved all the missing songs to a new folder. Change the Album name for these files. Refresh library. And it's working nw.
I still dunno wat's the problem though :-/, just a work around solution.
After that I figured out that out of the 4000 mp3 songs I transferred from my laptop, about 25 were missing from the library. All of them were detected after moving them to a new folder and modifying the ID3 tag.

• ITunes Library Keep Resetting to Macinstosh HD from Network NAS location

Every time I open iTunes, the library location path in the Advanced tab shows that the iTunes Library has changed located back to the Macintosh HD:/Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/
The library has been relocated to a QNAP network NAS mapped to NASTS209Pro/iTunes which is a public folder. The information below is taken from the System profiler
Type: smbfs
Mount Point: /Volumes/iTunes
Mounted From: //GUEST@nasts209pro:139/iTunes
Automounted: No
How do I force iTunes to use the NAS directory and stop it from reverting back to the Localhard drive directory path?

I found this thread through a support search. I just moved to all Mac Books for my family and set them up to a wireless network, and keep data (music, photos) on a shared NAS drive. We finally got around to moving our folder from our old external drive to the NAS. That went fine.
We are now finding the same issue. The music file location keeps reverting back to the local HD. My kids have Mac Books with Tiger, we have Pro's. The kid's computers reverted without even closing out or restarting. Mine held the directory until I restarted the computer. It's a drag because each time I fix it, the files have to re-organize, and it takes forever. The kids can't copy music to their ipods because it keeps saying "the original files can't be found"
Is there a way to correct this, (I see this topic was never answered) or do we have to abandon this way of doing things? They guy who set up our wireless and the NAS said it would be great. (I am also wondering how we can all have Apple accounts to buy music, have it stored in the NAS, and all be able to use it, without knowing what got added when and by whom.) We have all authorized each other's laptops.
Do we need to upgrade the new OS? I tried another thread's suggestion of adding the NAS to the login items. I can't seem to do that on the Pro.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I might have to resort to a trip to the Genius Bar. :/

• ITunes Library Keeps Resetting.

Every 5 days or so I will open iTunes and my entire library is gone. The only thing that iTunes is the screen you get from an empty library where my only two opitions are to either go to iTunes or scan for media. I would appreciate it if anyone knows why this is happening and how i can fix this problem.

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied and renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

• Itunes with networked library keeps resetting to the c:\ drive

I have a network server connected to my PC via a wireless network and have mapped my shared music folder on this server to my j:\ drive. I selected this drive in itunes. It finds it fine and can access the files etc ok. However, itunes seems to reset itself each time I reboot to the logged on user's "my music" folder on the c:\ drive. I check that the network is oconnected and correctly mapped before I open I tunes, but this keeps happening
Is there a setting I need to change in the programme or the registry that makes Itunes default to the user's "my music" folder on the c:\ drive?
Or is there some other itunes programme that looks for the networked drive in the start-up process, perhaps before it has reconnected, that I need to delete/delay?

Try the iTunes for Windows forum (This is the Mac one - not likely to get much help here!)

• How do I sync all of my iTunes music library to my ipad?

I have a mixture of downloaded & imported songs in iTunes on my laptop. All sync perfectly with my iPhone but when I tried to sync with my new ipad, it only seems to carry over downloaded songs rather than the whole music library. I have all devices set to sync automatically over wi-fi when plugged in. But even connecting the ipad by USB cable doesn't seem to work. Any ideas please?

Did you try "unsyncing" all of your songs from the iPad - which will remove them, and then sync them all back to the device?

• "The iPod "iPod" is linked to another iTunes music library."

This message that my iPod is linked to another iTunes music library keeps showing up even after I allowed iTunes to erase my music on my iPod and replace it with the music in the iTunes library. Do I have to let it replace it all again?
