Music library larger then 64GB

My music library is 120GB
The actual files are on a WD 2TB hard disk connected to my pc via usb.
I want to use this library with my ipad (instead of my pc)
Can this be done? How? ipad does not have enough space...
Thx for your advice
Shuki

I answered this on another post (you were double posting). If you want to stream your library of music on your hard drive, you need a file server attached to your Airport without needing iTunes, Airplay etc...
The easiest way to do this is to buy a PogoPlug. With this, you can stream your music anywhere, local, 3G or outside your home especially if you frequent Starbucks! I have one and works really well even through a corporate firewall or IDS Sonicwall. I never synced my music through iTunes anyhow as all my music reside in the PogoPlug.
The second way is through a DLNA NAS server. I use a Synology NAS which btw has its own iPad app for local and outside access too! You may have problems accessing from your company's Cisco/Sonicwall IDS firewall without going through VPN secured link on your iPad.
Last but not least is to create an FTP/WebDAV server and then connect it to a portable WIFI router (lots of them on sale at eBay) that uses USB power. I own an Addonics mini NAS and coupled with a small WIFI router (both together only the size of a cigarette pack). Just hook any size hard drive (I have 500Gb mini 2.5" HP portable) and take it on my trips. I just load up whatever music or movies transcoded well in advance and upload whatever I need from the drive into the iPad using an app called ezShare Pro. Transfer rates well in excess of 2MB/s is good enough I say. This gives you the flexibility of carrying your whole entire collection of media inside that drive. Despite what you may have been told by the dumb Apple reps, you DO NOT NEED iTunes to sync your music and videos into your iPad. I never did.

I have added many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. Then I could the play them in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music library but won't play any of it becuase "the original could not be found". If I attach my iPhone, then it pays them through the iPhone, but still not through the library in iTunes. How can I get the music library on my iPhone to transfer (i.e. restore it) to iTunes? I have iPhone 4S but have not upgraded to the iOS 6, and have not had any problems until last week.  Help!  Thanks.

Check the manual for whatever backup program you used, or, if you just copied the files over, copy them that.
How to restore data to your PC is outside the scope of these forums.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Songs I purchased show up in my list of downloaded and in my music library, but then when iclick on them, it says cannot locate. Hope someone can help

My computer is authorized, songs show up as purchase but they cannot be located, i checked the actual itunes folder and the entire album folder is in there but its empty! the songs still show up in my iphone. i transfered purchases. I have no idea what else to do! Someone please help i'm yanking my hair out here.

These songs were purchased in iTunes. It says I have them. I do but when I try to play it says they can't be located. I've checked the music folder and the album folder is there but empty. I've tried transferring the purchase again from my phone. I tried deleting the songs and reload them but now iTunes says the songs where already downloaded but they're not in my purchased folder anymore (they're in my playlist) and they're sill on my phone and iPad but the desktop can't locate them or play them.

  • MUSIC LIBRARY X 2

I completely doubled my music library by importing the folder again. Can I delete the music library and then re-install the music folder again? Will the music folder still contain the songs I purchased from iTunes music store? Currenntly I have duplicates of all the songs in my music library.

    The same happens to me.
    Can anyone help?

  • How can I delete multiple duplicate songs at one time? I would really like to wipe out my music library and just reinstall all files. Any Help is appreciated.

I am trying to cleanout my iTunes Music Library. I would prefer to wipeout the music library and then reinstall my music. I do not know how to delete multiple files besides doing one by one. Any help is much appreciated. Thank You.

Dupin is for Mac. For PC users I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.

  • Can't load music library on Blackberry Link

When I click on my computers files to load my music library through Blackberry Link it says:
Blackberry Link Wasn't Able to Load Your Music Library
    Close then reopen Blackberry Link
Did that many times, rebooted the computer, reinstalled the program etc all won't load my Itunes library.
It worked fine on BB Desktop Manager with my Bold 9900 which I was using until yesterday.
When right clicking on all music and going sync to > Blackberry10. It says 'A problem occured while attempting to access your media library (the sync did not complete."
Although there is no music there anyway as it can't load my Itunes library
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks

I find it easier to just go through windows explorer and treat the phone as a memory stick. I click and drag everything over, a bit archaic but it works for me, problem free.
It's always funny when it's someone else.

I have no Idea why the headphones will not pair. However, many users have reported that their care systems stopped working after the iOD update. I would contact your car manufacturer.

Are you currently Syncing the iPod's with their own iTunes Library? Since the iPod Classic has to get it's content by this method, I assume that you are doing so for the 120GB iPod and I take it that it is a Classic.
If you are, then simply connect the iPod to the other Library.
If the content of the iPod Touch (which I assume is what the 64GB iPod is) is not all in an iTunes library - i.e. you purchased music and Apps on the Touch and have not yet Synced those to an iTunes Library, then you need to do that first. Bear in mind though, that the Apps cannot run on an iPod Classic.

  • HT4913 If I sign up for iTunes Match, and then turn the iTunes Match on my iPad, will my music library from the iPad that is not currently in iCloud move to the iCloud?

I have a large music library on my iPad, that is not currently on iCloud or on my main PC. If I sign up for iTunes Match, and then turn the iTunes Match on my iPad, will the music library from the iPad that is not currently in iCloud move to the iCloud? Or will I loose all that music?

  • Large Music Library & Lots of Photos

    Hi,
I haven't been able to find any answer to this question so here goes...
I have about 21k songs (~125gb) of music and about 35gb of photos.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to access all of my music via Atv, and in a perfect world a bunch of photos. So my plan is to...
    Music
    1. Turn off music synching
    2. Stream my music library (which I do by adding it as a source?)
    Photos
    1. Go in and select a bunch of folders that I want to synch.
This is problematic because I don't use iPhoto and I want to arbitrarily select folders from my photo hard drive which are in different folders broken up by year. For example '2006/baby mariza' versus '2007/marizas 1st bday'. So if I select 2006 I can select folder from that year but I can't select any folder from the 2007 folder.
    Suggestions?

Because of having such a large library of music and also photos similar to yours, I stream the music and sync the photos.
I now use iphoto for the order of folders, but at first I took the photos from the hard-drive, which I can understand your predicament.
One suggestion that I did, was to put all your folders into one folder making them sub folders and then in the device list of apple TV on the photo tab choose the folder on your hard-drive and it will list all the sub folders inside, drag them in order and you should be good to go after clicking apply.

  • RE: freezing and resetting problems when syncing a large music library

    Hi there,
I got a new ipod classic 160gb for christmas. I updated the firmware to 1.0.3 and synced it for the first time. When I tried to play any music it locked up and went into a loop of resetting itself which I could only break by forcing the ipod into disk mode.
I restored the ipod and tried again syncing the music in chunks. This worked until the ipod was about 50% full then it started to freeze and reset again. I took this ipod back to the store but the new one had the exact same problem!
Through a lot of trial and error I have managed to get the ipod working with only part of my library synced. By syncing music a few albums at a time I have managed to get about 86gb (of 120gb) onto it, but surely this is not how it is supposed to be! I have a dual boot system and have the same problems using windows XP or vista.
I know that I'm not the only person experiencing resetting problems with the ipod classic. Are the users who are experiencing these endless resetting problems with the ipod classic those who have large music libraries (i.e over 80gb)? Can the ipod classic simply not handle the large volumes of music it was designed to hold?
The only features I was looking forward to in the new ipod were a) larger capacity hard drive and b) the ability to organise playlists into folders on the ipod for easier browsing. As it stands I cannot sync my full library and navigating through my playlists is so slow it is hardly worth bothering. I never had a minutes trouble with my 5th gen.
Have I been unlucky and the ipod classics I have recieved have been duds? In which case should I arrange another replacement? Or is this typical of the ipod classic user experience when the user has a large music library and many playlists? Should I await a firmware update that might remedy my problems?
Lastly am I doing something wrong? Any help or workarounds would be gratefully appreciated.

best thing to do is use Playlist and Smart Playliss to fill your iPod. Just so you know, since your post seemed to indicate you thought the playlists have to be tailored to what is already on the iPod, when you sync to playlists, any songs needed for those playlists are automatically moved onto the iPod. And any songs NOT in the playlists get removed.

  • HELP! Large portion of my music library doesn't work!

I recently got a new MacBook, so I moved the location of the music library. Now, tons of music doesn't work. The mp3 files exist but don't show up in iTunes and can't be opened by iTunes or Quicktime, or any other program I've tried. In the finder, my itunes library folder is 12.78 gb larger than what shows up in iTunes. Therefore, 12.78 gb of my music is not working!! Please help me!
    Thank you

Go to your Home\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music folder. Click it once. Click File and choose Get Info (or ⌘-I). Go to Ownership & Permissions, and click Details.
Make sure YOU are the owner and can read & write in EVERY category, and Apply to the entire contents fo the folder. (This may take a while) then try to re-add the missing files. One in a while I'll download something from an MP3 "buysite" and it will be "locked up" until I modify the permissions, allowing me to access my purchased songs.

  • I started downloading a song from iTunes and then stopped it in the middle of the download cause it froze, but when I tried to redownload it, iTunes said the song was already downloaded. But it does not show up in my music library on my phone. Help?

I bought a song on iTunes and it started downloading but then about half way through it seemed to stop downloading so I pressed the square stop button in he middle of the downloading circle so that I could try and restart the download. But when I went back to iTunes, instead of having the cloud and the arrow to let me download the song from the cloud next to it, it said "Play" as if I had already downloaded the song. So I went back to my music library to try and find the song but it's not there and iTunes isn't letting me download it cause it says I already have it. Please help.
