Music Library + Playlists
Can anyone tell me if I delete all the songs in my Music Library so I can reload them, will I lose all the Playlists that I created with those songs in them ?

I have 40,000 songs on 2 hard drives, in probably 5 different folders on each drive (alot have been moved around) which have probably 20,000 songs that are duplicates (some are .wav, some .mpg, some are .aac, (of the same song) which are not labeled exactly the same and some are bad copies, many of which, I edited in Itunes only. so in my Music Library I have up to 4 or 5 originals of the same songs. I guess what I'm trying to do is empty my Music Library and let it Import them again to delete the copies that can't be found anymore but at the same time, keep ALL the Playlists which I manually created with specific songs in them ......If that makes sense ???
P.S. If I delete the library, will all the songs that I edited in Itunes (get information)...come back as : Track 1, Track 2....etc....

Why are some of my tracks in specific playlists not showing up in my Music Library playlist?

But I would think that the purchases would be saved onto my Itunes account and therefore redownload into my computer. I have been able to retrieve about 9 of the 20+ songs that I bought by syncing my phone however the other purchases are still not there. Also, when I go to the Itunes store and back to the purchases, the button you press to buy it says "PURCHASED" so I know I don't have to rebuy them. How do I redownload the music I purchased previously?

How can I transfer my music library playlists from ipod to computer itunes library?

ITunes "lost" music library, playlists...
...Did an add folder to library and it appears that everything shows up in iTunes (can never be sure), but lost all playlists, album titles for audio books that were added after downloaded, and any information I manually added to music/audiobooks after they were downloaded... Why would iTunes drop an entire library. Nothing changed in terms of location of library (on ext HD), configuration of pc (winxp)
Big question - any way to reestablish playlists without having to manually recreate?I have a similar issue. But my "my music" folder was moved from my docs to "c" - because my office server was backing up my library. I can always reload the music (by adding the folder to the library). The music all re-appears in I-Tunes, but all of my playlists are gone. This happens to me at least every two weeks, particularly if I am working away from the office.
Would love to be able to re-establish my playlists w/o manually re-creating as well (which I must have done at least 5 times already)... -
Can't find my Music Library nor Playlists on iTunes site
I performed a full backup of my PC, copying everything to CD's for safekeeping, including my music from iTunes. My songs are sitting in a folder on my PC under "My Music" but when I go into iTunes site, they have disappeared! Yikes, can I get them back? Forunately they are still all sitting on my iPod, but would like to get my Music Library & Playlists back onto the iTunes site. Can anyone walk me through the steps I need to take?
Much appreciated.I am having the same issue. I got a new PC (Sony Vaio). Downloaded Itunes 8 64 bit. Imported all my music files. When i open with itunes the music plays. when i restart the PC and open itunes, the music library disappears. the itunes music folder creates duplicats as well.

iCloud does not sync new playlists from my music library playlists to apple tv. Any suggestions how to fix.
I really do wish Apple had not made the nomenclature so confusing for a lot of users.

How to make my music library on my iPhone appear the way I wanted?
Hi there, I have created my own music library by ligit CDs and have purchased some songs through iTunes, it is saved onto my macbook pro, since I have songs in Chinese, Japanese and English, I have re-arranged and re-editded my music library my own way of song titles, artist names, album titles, artwork, year of album release etc (part of the reason is that sometimes song data from iTunes were incorrect). And, I would like to duplicate my music library / playlist in the same way of appearance on my iPhone 5s and iPod touch, I have turned off all the auto downloads on music settings and iCloud settings, and I am only copying my music from Macbook to iPhone through a cable, but it still won't work and still appear how the song, artist, artwork was shown in iTunes.
Is there any way to make it work? Its really frustrated as the data of the songs are incorrect, I could change anything in my library in my Macbook, but I can't duplicate that onto my iPhone and iPod.....

In iTunes 10, it's simple to just drag and drop a few songs manually from the library/playlist to the Shuffle. In iTunes 11, Shuffle has its own window. How do you manually drag and drop songs from music library/playlist to iPod Shuffle using iTunes 11?
If you manually manage music... on iTunes 11, go to the top left corner and there will be a pull down bar. Click "show menu bar". From there, go to view, then show sidebar. Magically, it looks like the previous versions of iTunes. Took me 3 hours of trial and error and searching through forums to figure out. Tried calling Apple to have them walk me through it and they said they wouldn't help me since I don't have Apple Care. Whatever. Hope this helps!!

In the latest verision of ITunes (downloaded yesterday) I can no longer see how large (in GB's) my music library or playlists are. This is a very valuable function and it seems to have disappeared. Anyone know where it is?
Go to the View menu and turn on the Status Bar. If you don't see the menus, go to the small icon with the arrow at the extreme upper left and select "Show Menu Bar":

When I sync my iphone4 to my pc some iTunes music downloaded direct to the phone cannot be removed. They do not show in the music library or any playlist and they do not show on the pc even if you use a search by name. Any help is appreciated

Please can anyone help? I am trying to sync my iphone music with itunes, but am finding that as soon as the sync is complete the data bar shrinks back from almost full (my entire music library) to just 100 songs, which happen to be the contents of one playlist I have. i cannot seem to change the music content on my phone no matter what? PS when I hit sync the capacity bar fills up, but when I apply, it drops back to just those songs I already mentioned :- (
thank you randers4, unfortunately these restrictions aren't to blame. Now I realise the problem - I tried to play some of the music and found out that the source data wasn't attached. The computer was rebuilt and backed up - and it seems perhaps hasn't all been copied back. I am currently attempting to copy accross some itunes files from my backup drive. Bit confused, too many itunes files of different types but fingers crossed getting closer to the solution......?

I have an iTunes account with my own music library. My wife wants to have her own music library. Is there a way to set up a sub account for her, or do I have to set up a set of husband playlists and a set of wife playlists?

How come I can't add a song to my playlists in itunes match? Is it me or itunes match? It keeps on coming up with a message " iCloud playlists can only contain songs from your iCloud music library. If you continue, the playlist will be removed from iCloud and will only be available on this computer"?
You must surely be able to add and subtract songs on specific playlist?I fixed this issue (with help from tech support) and it involved several things.
After adding a song to iTunes, right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Update iTunes Match."
OR go to the iTunes menu-->Store-->Update iTunes Match.
Maybe that's the reason, it just hadn't updated to the cloud.
OR maybe it's not a high-enough bitrate file. This happens to me because most of my tunes are home-recorded.
Sometimes converting to .mp3 or Create AAC version might work. (You do this with a right-click in iTunes, and then you will want to remove the original file from iTunes.)
There is an iTunes Preferences setting, under General Preferences called Import Settings. Try setting it to AAC Encoder and iTunes Plus. That (I think) causes imports to be slightly better quality.

Hello. I hope someone can help. I have an iPod Touch 8G that I am trying to keep the music playlists from, adding them to what is on my Mac. I had work done on my Mac, and as a result, the original playlists in iTunes were deleted. I have recreated them using the Music Library, a long arduous process of thousands of songs! I would really like to have both, so I could manually combine playlists. How do I do this, not losing either set of playlists?
I enabled Home Sharing and iCloud.

My logic board died on my old macbook pro. I have a new one, but I want to get my iTunes library off my old hard drive and put it on my new one. I had set up my old MBP to store all my iTunes music on an external drive, so I have the music. The iTunes program was on the old MBP hard drive.How do I essentially recreate my previous iTunes library, playlists, etc on my new laptop?
You will need the iTunes Library.itl file which generally lives in ~/Music/iTunes/. You can recover this from the backups you were making before the HDD died. Otherwise, you cannot recreate the library.
