Music library vanishes

Just discovered that most of my music library has vanished.
Eventually discovered the rest of the music by going into Users/username/Music/iTunes and then iTunes Music folder- everything is in there, can play tracks from there but don't know how to shift it back to my Library.
Does anyone have any ideas. Thankyou

SOmething on your system is corrupting the iTunes library ITL file or preventing it from being saved properly. Or, something or someone is moving or deleting it.
Info on the library file:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
Tha fastest way to rebuild your library file is to drag the main iTunes music folder (Using Win Explorer) back into iTunes. Or iTunes > File > Add Folder to library.

  • IPhone 6 music library keeps being deleted

Every time I connect my iPhone to my Mac my music library vanishes off my phone except previously purchased songs. I have reinstalled iTunes 12 and restored my phone but it keeps happening. I have my iTunes set to manually manage my library. I will spend hours transferring songs from my library to my phone and they may stay on for a few days but then seven times out of 10 my music will disappear again except tunes I bought from iTunes. Anyone else have this problem or know how to resolve it? So frustrated. Thanks

I have had this problem a month ago. I just tried a 1000 things that did not work, then it started working. I think it's because Apple made iTunes really stupid. Pretty sure that's it.

  • HT1766 Recently updated my iPhone 4s to the iOS 6. Now I can not install application updates, my music library has vanished, iTunes Match (in Settings) keeps setting itself to "Off".

I recently updated my iPhone 4s to the iOS 6. Now I can not install application updates, my music library has vanished, iTunes Match (in Settings) keeps setting itself to "Off". I have also logged off of iTunes in Settings, and it will not let me log back in. Just a few moments ago when I again tried to log into iTunes, it asked me for my Password, then replyed that I had no Match account; but I do. Is Restore the best option?
    Any suggestions

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more.  And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should.  On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much.  I will post a note in the app store to let them know.  I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

  • Synced music library keeps vanishing!

Since the recent update I have noticed that the synced music library on my AppleTV keeps vanishing as if I don't have any music on it. In order to get it back, I need to go to Shared Music and then back to My Music on the AppleTV menu. The problem happens severa times a day. I have tried rebooting the AppleTV (in fact I usually have to reboot it at least once a week due to the fact in freezes).
Is the instability caused by having a second computer sharing its iTunes library with the AppleTV? It's getting abit irritating when you have listened to an album and then go back to select another album and find the whole music library has disappeared.

This problem seems to have been fixed with update 2.3 which I've been using for a numbers of days now
Pity about some of the other new problems introduced with update 2.3 though

  • My entire music purchase has vanished, bar one , from my new mac. I have searched via finder/music/library etc and it aint there. It still is on my phone and ipad though

All my purchased music has vanished from my new mac. it was there before, it still is on my phone etc?

    Hello Fin Hall,
Congratulations on your new Mac!  I am sure you definitely want your music available on it.  I found an article with steps to get your music back on your Mac:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
I would recommend following the steps under "Apps, Books, Music, Movies, or TV shows on a computer."  I hope this helps get you back on track!
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • Music library and podcasts

I like to listen to music by selecting all tracks to play randomly.
However, since I install the podcast application, this also includes the podcasts, which I do not want to be included when I actually want to listen to music.
So is there a way to tell the music library to ignore all the podcasts?
(btw, I own a e51 if that matters)

I am having this very same problem. ever since I allowed some new updates, everything changes on my computer. my desktop icons disappear, all my itunes songs vanish, my websites favorites are wiped out. it's a tremendous pain to have to create new favorites everytime I turn my computer back on again.
I've seen that the files do not actually disappear (for example the itunes music is still located in my old files, but the library shows nothing.
basically my problem is that each time I power on, my desktop appears clean as a whistle, with just my main drive and my priceless My book icon showing. all my 22+ other icons have dissappeared. so I navigate to the old desktop file, command c to copy all the desktop icons, commnand paste them back onto the now clean new desktop, eveything now looks good, I do the same thing for itunes, find the missing files, import them back into itunes....but then when I shut down and power back up, the pasted icons and newly imported music AGAIN all disappear.
extremely frustrating, but I'm determined to find the solution.

  • Add even one song to iPhone (manual sync) and now iPhone erases rest of music library?

    Many thanks for your attention.
This has been happening more and more - especially with more recent iOS and iTunes updates.
I long have kept many Movies and much Music on my iPod or (now) iPhone.
In the past, whenever I wanted to add a new song to the iPhone, I would just drag and drop the song into it from my desktop.
Almost all of my music I converted over from CDs I own. Same with the movies.
I almost never buy music or movies from the iTunes store.
I have always had iTunes Sync set to Manual.
Until a couple years ago, no problems.
Now, sometimes I drag one film over or add one new song - and the rest of my music library (and all the movies) on my iPhone are seemingly automatically erased. Poof - they're all gone!
It doesn't happen each time - sometimes the song or songs are copied over and my iPhone music library is added to - as I planned.
But sometimes, I perform the same step - and the new song is added - but all (over 4000) of the songs already in library, all the playlists, etc., vanish.
It takes a while to add over 4000 songs to the iPhone (again and again). I had read over last couple years of bugs that would be fixed, etc., but it seems to be much worse now, not better.
Except - the few songs I once downloaded from the iTunes store. Those appear - ready to play yet  - but ready to be downloaded again.
I have tried several things to combat this - deleted Pref files, etc. But there is no pref file on a Mac for the iPhone. Only for iTunes.
I should say I do not keep an iTunes Library on my computer. It is mostly empty (to save HD space). As my iPhone is 64GB - that would be 64GB of needless space taken up - when I only listed to music or watch movies via my iPhone. Up until about two years ago - this was never an issue though, since back to the first iPod. And I have always had my iTunes set to Manual Sync.
I do not use iCloud to backup my music.
I would just manually add a song or a movie to iPhone via my desktop.
Any suggestions to stop this from repeatedly happening welcome. My thanks in advance for any help.

Many thanks for reply and suggestions, Lawrence.
If a corrupt music database on iPhone - why was this happening on iPods (in the past)  as well?
I have done complete Restores and Re-installs of iOS in the past. But this problem keeps popping up.
But - will try your suggestion.
It seems to be connected to Apple moving to iCloud and people backing up their music there. Also, many (or most) people also keep all their music on their Mac. I don't do either. iPhone always recognizes the few songs or films I downloaded from Store (they are also erased - but I have the joy of the option to download them again).
But - most of my music and movies come from my own CD collection and my own DVD collection - not from iTunes Store.
Your Playlist of All Music suggestion. If I understand right, I would have to load all music to iTunes first (some 40GB?)
    Then Sync.
But I don't want to keep all 40GB+ of music perpetually on Mac.

  • Why has my entire music library been wiped out?

my ipod has been acting up lately, it started when tthe music icon vanished, although i could still munually search it to access it, today when i went to do that, not only was the search not working, but the computer didnt recognise any music. I tried syncing it to see if that would pick it up, but now my itunes library on my computer is gone too... im getting very, very upset here because i had roughly 200 bucks invested into music and now POOF its all gone, please please help me if you can

This probably has nothing to do with Apple, it sounds like your system may be badly corrupt or has some other serious problems.  Try some of the troubleshooting techniques in the second half of Understanding upgrade nightmares*.

  • What size is my music library

what size is my music library

I do not know the size...but iIneed to ask a question and there is NO place on this site to ask...So I will ask here.
I downloaded some songs from a legitimate site and when it cam to where i want those songs to go, I clicked on i-tunes. Well, apparently this caused my regular Library to vanish and it was replaced with a new library called 'i-tunes 1'. I do have an external harddrive and back up cd's..but i thought asking Apple Support for help before i do all that. I have yet to hear from them and they really are not reliable..all they do is direct yoiu to the helkp site...like i can do that on my own.
Any suggestions? I even l;ooked on my hard drive and when I click on -tunes it automatically opens to this new library.
    HELP.....Thanks!!

  • Ringtone mark disappears from iTunes Music Library

I went to see if anymore of my Music Library had become eligable for ringtones. Not only it hadn't but all of the ones that had a mark in the ringtone column are no marked! What happened? Is the ringtone eligibility time limited? Since Apple can't make all of the itms song eligible, are they rotating batches in and out?

No, there's no time rotation on ringtone available tracks. It depends on Apple being granted approval on a per-track basis by contract. Apparently ringtones are a very lucrative business for the content providers (record companies) and they watch their ringtone coffers like hawks...
Regarding the strange vanishing ringtone indicators, I think this is a commonly seen thing, and may have to do with the software still being squirrely (needs the kinks ironed out). To get them back, try going into your main music library to a track that has the little bell -- one that you have not made into a ringtone. Then right click (or ctrl-click) on the track, and select "Create Ringtone...". That should bring up the ringtone create controls at window bottom. iTunes will now 'talk' to the Music Store and should refresh your 'ringtone-able tracks'. You can cancel out of the 'create ringtone' dialogue.
    Hope this helps.

  • Will I be able to copy my music library from my PC to I pad and listen to it at a remote place without sync and without I tunes match?

Will I b able to copy my music library from PC to I pad while sync and listen to it without sync at a remote place. Is it possible without iTunes Match?

Yes. As long as all your songs you lost have been Matched or Uploaded to iTunes Match you can download your entire library from the cloud.
It might take some time though
