Music Lost due to system restore

I have searched but can't find an answer. My computer crashed and a full restore was done. I lost all my music and cannot get it back. Biggest problem is I do not have the Ipod anymore, just had the music on my Itunes. I cannot get support over the phone and I am ready to pull my hair out. I have lost a couple of hundred songs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Where is your backup copy?
You can try e-mailing itunes support to ask for an exception, but they are not obligated to allow it, especially if your didn't backup anything.
You get one download.

  • 1.Backup to External drive 2. CoverArt lost after Windows system restore

I recently spent many hours searching for and applying cover art for my music which was mostly ripped before cover art was readily available.
Because of this investment, I want to be sure my library is fully backed up. I want to use space on an external drive, rather than DVD's.
I noticed as I added art, iTunes started acting sluggish. I thought it might be because of the new version or a recent Windows Vista update. So I decided to run system restore. I was appalled to discover that restore wiped out the art I had added. So I reversed the restore and the cover art returned. It became clear to me that the art must be stored in some other way than in the actual music file. I've searched the forum and found others who had problems with system restore, but no explanation of exactly what I should do if I want to proceed with a system restore. I use system restore several times a year and I have never lost anything in iTunes before I started adding cover art. I also never had a problem with sluggishness til I added a bunch of cover art.
My library is large at 3000 items.
Is there a way to compact or optimize the database to improve responsiveness?
Is there a way to backup to an external drive? Is it just a file copy and export library file?
If I export the library as an xml file before I do a system restore, can I then replace it after the restore and protect my cover art.

To be completely sure what you're doing please take a look at your iTunes Folder and see what Vista stores inside it. To find it, go to Start>Computer>Hard Disk C>Users>Your Name>Music>iTunes>.......
Please note there is an artwork folder PLUS a music folder!
My guess is that your system restore point pre-dated the time you added artwork to your iTunes files. (Celebrate that system restore still works for you--I have not been able to successfully restore for over a year now--Norton Internet Security causes system restore failures for many Windows users! I've tried to do this using Windows XP and Vista--and I can never successfully restore anymore.)
To fully backup your library, just copy the entire iTunes folder to another source--second hard drive, USB drive, or burn it to a CD or DVD, etc.
If you're experiencing "sluggishness" it may be due to the amount of RAM on your system. iTunes needs a great deal of RAM to run smoothly. You can choose to: increase the RAM on your system, OR, turn off cover flow/album view and see if things run more smoothly.

  • Uninstalled Firefox due to System Restore on XP. Can I recover my bookmarks once I install new Firefox?

Hello, It was necessary for me to perform a System Restore on my Microsoft XP software today. Once I did Firefox would not operate. I uninstalled Firefox program. I want to continue using Firefox but before I re-install I need to know if I will loose all my bookmarks from my previous usage/saves. They are Extreamly Important to me, and yes I realize I should have consulted you before I uninstalled. Please advise. Thank-you, Steve email: [email protected] in English

How did you choose an earlier date?
Once you delete any thing from iphone 4 it is not possible to restore. It is possible to restore only when you backuped the contacts before deleting them.
So,if you backup the contacts before deleting then follow the below instructions to recover lost contacts of iPhone.
---> Turn on the iphone 4 device.
---> After turn on locate the backup application which you are using and open it.
---> After open you will see the different options.Among this select and tap the restore option.
---> Now select the contacts option.
---> Here you will see the all contacts.
---> Among this select the all contacts and tap the restore option.
---> After restore process completes check the contacts restore or not and close the backup application.

  • ITunes music lost after erase and restore

Ok, so I had to re-install OSX. I did so, opened iTunes after updating it, and upon opening it found that my entire music collection has now since vanished, so I checked for my downloads, as I was under the impression once purchased you would be allowed to download your purchase more then once to the same computer?!
It says they've already downloaded, yet I have no music...
Someone please explain, HELP ME PLEASE

Ok, so I had to re-install OSX.
Look in the Previous Systems folder on the hard disk for your music if you performed an Archive & Install without preserving your data. If not, restore it from a backup if possible.
as I was under the impression once purchased you would be allowed to download your purchase more then once to the same computer
Apple needs to pay a royalty for each downloaded song, including iTunes Plus content. Click here and request a free redownload; only one request will ever be granted per customer.

  • A205-5809 - I cannot bring up the Control Panel or do a System Restore

Hello. I am the Chairman of our church fundraiser and I have inherited a laptop from the previous Chairman. I am not used to working on a Toshiba and really not used to working with Vista.
When I first got the computer I downloaded Microsoft Office Home Ed 2007 and a few anti-virus programs. At some point the computer started acting up. I tried to do a System Restore to a few different System Checkpoints and had no luck. The System Restore would not complete.
My immediate concern is the Control Panel. If I go to the Start Menu and click Control Panel, a small white appears as if the Control Panel is opening and then it immediately disappears. I can access the Control Panel by going through My Computer though.
I mentioned both issues in this one post because I do not know if one issue is causing the other. Please give me any suggestion as to why I cannot do a System Restore or why the Control Panel will not open up from the Start Menu.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Lost music after system restore

I have lost my music after a system restore do you have any suggestions.

    Re-load from your backup drive.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

Loaded new Itunes version, now I opened Itunes and no music, Did a system restore, and backed up music file before restore. Music is still on computer, but when I open I tunes it won't open, says can't recognize the .itl file because it is from a newer version, and I tunes won't open. Can I just re download Itunes to fix? Or will this overwrite my music file?

  • Lost purchased iTunes after computer system restore

How can I retreive purchsed iTunes that I lost after I had my computer system restored? I re-loaded the iPod + iTunes disc and non of my songs seem available to me.

That is going to depend on what you mean by "restore". If you formatted your hard drive and did not have a backup then the music files are gone and you will have to re purchase them all. Same thing if you
If you still have your music files all you need to do is add them to iTunes. Go to File > Add Folder to Lib... and point to where the files are.
If you believe you still have the music files but do not know where they are try doing a search for *.m4p, or *.mpb, or *.mp3. If the files are still on your hard drive then that should find them.

I have uploaded an old itunes library by mistake - any way that I can go back to my previous library.  Unable to do a system restore and I don't know where to find an up to date music/playlist file.  I was originally trying to recover a playlist that vanished after I had updated one of the ipads, did an online search, followed the instructions only to discover that I had loaded an itunes library from 2 years ago.  Stupidly I thought that it had updated itself and didn't realise I had to do it.  Any he

  • Lost all my APPS following a "System Restore" on my Windows 8.1 machine

A couple of days ago I was experiencing problems logging on to ANY / ALL Wi-Fi networks so elected to do a "System Restore" for about 10 days ago. That worked fine and I got my Wi-Fi networks sorted but I lost ALL MY APPS and cannot find a way
to re-install. Tried contacting Microsoft and what a waste of time that was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has anyone any idea as to how to retrieve the situation WITHOUT getting too complex or do I need to buy an Apple Computer? With the Old XP system a "System Restore"
NEVER created these sort of problems! PLEASE SOMEONE TRY TO ADVISE. Thanks Andrew

Sorry to ask, may I know how you perform system restore?
as far I know, system restore will restore condition included software or application installation
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc
If you think an app or driver that you recently installed caused problems with your PC, you can restore Windows back to an earlier point in time, called a restore point. System Restore doesn’t change your personal files, but it might remove recently
    installed apps and drivers.
To restore your PC to an earlier point in time
    1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
2.Enter Control Panel in the search box, and tap or click Control Panel.
3.Enter Recovery in the Control Panel search box, and then tap or click Recovery.
4.Tap or click Open System Restore, and then follow the instructions
So, you need to reinstall your application if 10 days ago you haven't installed it
I don't know your expectation about this

I had to do a complete system restore on my computer and now I am having issues getting all my music back. It's telling me that my account is in use with a different user but I'm the only user on my computer. When I go to sync it, it wants to delete all my music and ringtones. What should I do? I don't want to loose all my items.

When in recovery mode you can't backup the iPod.
You will have to restore via iTunes. See:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Lost all my apps after I did a system restore on my replacement I phone 4

Hi, I got my I phone stolen and got a replacement phone, I did a system restore and everything came over except for all my apps.  What can I do?  Yes I did back up my phone prior to it being stolen.  I did remember seeing all my apps on my itunes at one point.
Does this happen when you try to connect a new iphone with old itunes account?
I might of downloaded a new firm ware for i tunes before I did a system restore on my new iphone 4, could that of triggered my apps being missing?
please help, I have over 100 apps that I don't want to loose.  thanks for anyone that knows whats going on...

If your apps were in itunes on your computer, then they should still be there.  Just sync them back to the iphone.
BTW, the backup that itunes performs when syncing does NOT include music/apps/movies/tv shows etc.
Anything purchased on the iphone would have to be transferred to your computer.  File>Transfer Purchases
Unlike music/vids/etc, you can redownload apps

i lost my iphoto application how i can restore it? i am not having system restore disk. how i can get my photos back?

If the iPhoto application is no longer on your hard drive (do a search to be sure it didn't just get moved to an unexpected place), there's no way to get it back without either backups or a copy of iPhoto.  Your original disks that shipped with the machine would have iPhoto.  If you have lost those disks and don't have backups, you'll simply have to buy a copy of iLife.  Or call Apple with your machine's serial number in-hand and request replacement disks, which they will send you for a small fee.
