Music Manager - Not Recognising Album/Artist

Hi All,
This seems to be a bit of a **bleep** - Music Manager is not recognising my Track/Album/Artist titles when I import my music files.
I keep all my tunes in iTunes. Now, I think probably 90% or above of the world population use iTunes to manage their music files, so I'm assuming Music Manager would have been developed with this in mind and should integrate fully on something as simple as a track/artist/album title tag?
Or is there something stupid I'm doing - I have a 5500 and run XP, all up to date.
It's damn annoying to have hundreds of songs on your phone, but when you go jogging/snowboarding/holidays you can't tell which artists you've got on there!
Any news on this chaps? I really don't want to be individually editing hundreds or thousands of tags - is there an update planned for this? Seems like a big bugbear for what are supposed to be 'media phones'.
Any news greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Darren.

Hi,
What you can do is from your phone songs copy those songs into My collection of Nokia Music Manager, then all your artists details will be displayed if the artist column is checked (ticked) in Customize view in View option of Nokia Music Manager, the songs which are copied in My collection only be displayed... Yeah i too agree this is an akward but this is how it works

  • N8 music player not recognising music file details

I've been using mp3tag to embed album art in the ID3 tags & also fix the album artist so I can copy the files across to my N8 in windows. It all worked fine before but now the music player just sees them as album artist & album unknown, depite this info being correct in the tag files. Any ideas? In fact I've deleted some stuff that was ok & put it back on & since going back it's not been recognised properly.
    Any help appreciated
    Nokia N8 on Belle

I have been using muscibee to embed tag information into mp3 files on the Nokia.
    1) The trick is to use the proper version of the ID tag.
    You MUST use ID3v2.3.
The album art can be both embedded into the mp3 files, and/or saved as folder.jpg. Embedding worked for some time, then it was changed to the folder.jpg, if I know well. Now I do both.
Musicbee has also a lot of mp3 tagging function, also auto numbering, freedb info.
    2) If you change the tag info in the files, you must remove the files from the phone, refresh the music library (so they get deleted), then copy the files back, and refresh the music library. Otherwise, the old tag info will be present in the database.

  • Manual Music Management Not Possible

My music will sync to my phone as long as I have the SYNC box (in the music tab) checked... I can pick Playlists, Artists, and Genre's and they sync fine, but if I uncheck it (for manual control), I can not put individual songs on my 3g using the drag and drop method.
    Any Ideas?

I'm using Itunes 9.0.2 (build 25) and I don't see that box anywhere. I am familiar with what you're talking about from earlier versions of Itunes, but the only box I have is called "Sync Music". If it's checked you get the option to select all music or just selected Playlists, Artists, and Genres, but NOT individual songs.
If it's unchecked, I would assume manual management of the Iphone media since there is no actual "manual" box to check.
I'm wide open to suggestions, so anything you might know would help me out.
    Thanks

  • How do I make iTunes recognise album/ artist names?

I had to format my computer and so backed up my iTunes collection, all 25gb ripped with all correct information tags. I backed up my music using a program called syncback pro which backed up my files as I added them instead of using the iTunes backup.
When I set up my computer again and copied my music back into iTunes iTunes failed to recognise roughly 60-80% of my album titles and 10% of my artist tags whilst in the file directories everything is sound. I have compared 2 files from different albums. One with album titles and one without and there is no difference in either any file names or any tags in the file properties.
Also when I changed my windows media player directory to my iTunes then windows media player instantly recognised all of my music 100%.
I have tried reinstalling iTunes, changing the directory, importing through consolidation and also through selecting a folder. None of these work.
I have tried using other media players such as doubletwist and someother open source (foobar) but I encounter the same problems as i do with iTunes. Why could this be????
Any help would be greatly apprechiated!! thankyou!

My guess would be that the files in question have multiple tags and while other applications are reading the most complete set of data, iTunes is reading partial information. If you have the files in a sensible artist & album folder structure then my script TagFromFilename might help.
I take it you didn't preserve the iTunes Library.itl file from the old system. In future you should simply clone the entire iTunes folder structure to create a backup as this will preserve not only your media, but all the other infomation not stored in tags such as playcounts, ratings, playlists etc.

  • HT1535 how do i transfer music to my iPhone album/artist list from my playlist

only allowed to transfer music to my playlist on my iphone using itunes 11.1 ever since upgrading to 11.1... How do I get it to my regular music list on my iphone?

  • Coverflow on iPod says Various Artists, not the album artist name

It looks fine on iTunes, with the proper artist name under the cover, but it changes to various artists when synced to the iPod. I set it on compilation, like I did when it worked about a month ago. I took off the compilation on Get Info and then I get the multiple covers again. Anybody else have this problem?

If they are all the SAME artist, you shouldn't need the Compilation checkmark. If they aren't the SAME artist, you would need it checked, and in Cover Flow, they will show up as "Various Artists" followed by the Album's Name.
If that doesn't help you, go to the Music section of iTunes, sort by Album Name, and select all the songs in an Album. Choose Get Info, and select pretty much EVERYTHING. If they are all the same Artist, fill it in and make sure it's checked, fill in the Album Name and check it, Genre's can be different, Volume adjustment can be different, the Year CAN be different, I believe.
Then, if the Artist is different for the songs, Compilation should be selected.
Then if you want, you can add the album artwork as well so they are all getting it from the same source at once. Then click ok, sync and try.
Then they should show up correctly.

  • N73 ME - Music Player Not Recognising Music

    Hi all,
A slightly strange issue has just started with my N73 ME (Orange, UK, V4.0735.3.0.2) I recently wiped all the music from my 2GB memory card and replaced it using the Nokia PC Suite.
I have the s/w set up to automatically change everything to .M4A when it copies across. It's always worked perfectly, no problem.
However, once everything was copied, when I tried to update the music player, it just sits 'Updating' and can't find any music at all.
The file manager can see it and the Gallery app on the phone can see it all too - you can play individual tracks via both these routes as well.
The music player however can't find anything on it's own.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I can get around this?
    Thanks in advance,
    B.

Are the music tracks in the right folder on the memory card? Music player will only pick up tracks under
    Sounds> Digital sounds
If they are under Music or any other folder your gallery will see them but Music player will not.
If the songs are in the correct folder then try performing a reset of the phone as follows and then try again.
Try doing a hard reset by following the following steps
1: Back up important data such as contacts, messages etc
    2: Turn off the phone
3: Hold down the star *, green phone and number (3) key
4: Turn the phone back on with these keys held in
5: Wait for the device to start up completely
Restore back-up and try phone again, if the problem is still noticeable take it to your nearest Nokia Repair Centre

  • Adobe Application Manager Not Recognising Installed Applications

    Hi,
I've just launched adobe application manager for the first time on a month or 2 and it no longer knows that I already have photoshop, illustrator and fireworks installed, and therefore I cannot update them!
    Thanks for you help
    Matt

I've seen cases in which installing the products with a different Adobe ID than the one associated with your Creative Cloud membership can cause this, but haven't heard of instances where just installing updates to AAM caused it.
Another solution to try would be uninstalling the product not listed in AAM through the OS/with the uninstall and then just reinstalling it through AAM
Control Panel > Programs & Features (Windows 7/8)
Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers (Mac OS X)

  • Artist vs. Album Artist in iTunes 11

When I click on "Artists," my music is displayed by "Album Arist" (IMHO, the most useless category in the song info window).  This is especially problematic for classical music, where sometimes the performer/ensemble/conductor is listed as Album Artist, but also for soundtracks, etc, where many of the songs have "various artists" listed as Album Artist.
I have tried nulling (is that a word?) the Album Arist field from all of my songs, but iTunes keeps putting it back in there without asking me (this has been a problem with all iTunes versions I have ever used -- it overwrites info that I enter manually -- but that's a topic for another discussion).
How do I get iTunes to display by Arist, and NOT by Album Artist?
    Thanks for any helpo.

Select an album or two of  tracks that won't behave, right-click and use Convert > ID3 Tags > None, repeat at least twice, then use Convert > ID3 Tags > ID3v2.3. You will need to reapply artwork. If you use my CreateFolderArt script first the artwork should still be in the folder, ready to be reinserted by the script after you've cleaned the tags. Tips on how to use the scripts at the top of the scripts page.
For myself I treat the composer of classical music as the Artist/Album Artist. For general tips on getting stuff sorted in iTunes see Grouping tracks into albums.

  • No album artist menu?

Well, apparently I'm the only person in the world who has their MP3s properly tagged, because the iPod doesn't have the only menu I want. I would like to be able to view my music by Album Artist>Album>Song on the iPod. My music is tagged so that albums that have multiple artists place those in the "artist field", with only a single artist (usually the name of the movie the soundtrack is from, or the "collector" of the album), and in iTunes I use the sort "album by artist" to view things properly.
Unfortunately the ipod does not offer "album artist" as one of the choices in the music menu, which makes it frustrating, as the result is a menu full of hundreds of artists with only one song in them. How do I fix this?

No, there is no Album Artist menu, but there is a Compilation menu ...
For multi-artist albums, put the individual (or duet names) in the Artist field and put a name that is common to all songs in the Album Artist field (use "Various Artists" if there is no common name). Then, tag all songs on the album as "Part of a Compilation" and then activate* the Compilations setting on your iPod, that will remove all these one-hit artists from your artist directory. The Compilation album will be accessible in either the Albums menu, or the Compilations menu.
*To activate the Compilations setting on your Classic, go into +Settings/Main Menu+ or +Settings/Music Menu+ and select the Compilations feature.

  • Nokia 6234 USB connection fails with Music Manager...

Have connected my 6234 with a CA-53 USB cable to my PC (using Windows XP). After many initial problems of it not being recognised it now seems to be installed and the driver also. Now I can get as far as 'copying to phone' tracks in Nokia Music Player (PC Suite v.6.8.1).
Then I get a 'connection to phone failed' every time I try to transfer the tracks. Suggests something if it's a bluetooth connection. Nothing for a cable.
Would be very grateful for any ideas. Has taken me hours to get this far.
    Thanks.

For clarity: use you PC Suite 6.81.13? And Nokia Music Manager (not for example Nokia Multimedia Player?)
"Suggests something if it's a bluetooth connection" this was difficult to understand, can you type exactly what is the error mesaage you are getting, also what type of music files you are transferring (MP3's? AAC? ...?) And how many at the time and are moving those to memory card or ?

  • Artist vs Album Artist sort for Cover Scroll

I have a huge library of Cast/Soundtrack albums and have taken much time to sort each track by 1000's of artists. And then use new Album Artist to head each compliation as "Soundtrack" "Original Cast" et al... But for some reason certain discs are read in this new Album Artist while others either default to 1st Artist on Track 01 or default to end of Scroll under Various artists - despite my relabeling??? (even though new label does read on the new title)

sidssp is correct. This is how "Album Artist" is intended to be used. But there are two problems with this IMO:
    1. Having "Ray Charles & Norah Jones" and "Ray Charles & James Taylor", etc on the individual tracks as the "Artist" and "Ray Charles" on all the tracks as the "Album Artist" is cool when one is searching the library. However, when one is browsing the library this is a major PITA. The browser control keys off "Artist" ... and there is no way to switch it to use "Album Artist". When I search for "Ray Charles" I want to find any track he is on ... regardless of whether he is the main artist or featured artist. I can then select the exact track I want from the results. But when I browse for "Ray Charles" I am looking for a Ray Charles album(s). Unfortunately, the Artist list shows me "Ray Charles & Norah Jones", "Ray Charles & James Taylor", etc. Now I can select all of the Artist entries and get a list of all the albums that I want, but this is really a pain and unintuitive. Which leads me to the bigger problem ...
    2. The iPod does not utilize "Album Artist" at all. If one utilizes the "Artist" field to reflect the main artist and featured artists as intended, then there is no way to quickly locate the main artist on an album, and then select all or individual albums by that artist. Which in my case effectively renders the new "Album Artist" field useless because there simply is no workaround.
    OAW
PS: This is nearly as stupid as introducing playlist folders in iTunes and not having any sort of iPod support for the feature!

  • Album Artwork wanted in Music App - NOT Artist profile image

Right, so i've already read a bunch of threads pertaining to this issue but none have helped me so im starting my own.
I'm a hardened iphone user, and mac user in general, residing in the UK.
I recently bought an iphone 5s on O2 network and syncronised my new handset from a back up i had which was made from my old iphone 4s.
Now, im aware others experience a similar problem with the Music app in iOS7 - in that some artists show an "Artist profile picture" and others show one (of perhaps many) album artworks which are stored on the device.
This is an issue for me, here's why...
Being a huge music lover, and a creative (im a graphic designer) i digest my music library when scrolling visually through the artworks i see.
Without them, im usually highly uninterested in listening to anything as i can never decide what to put on.
Some artists profile pictures look more or less the same too, so i could be staring at 3 seperate artists who all look the same yet span completely different genres and i'll skip past every one of them because i cant remember exactly what songs i may have of theirs on my iphone.
I've read up on how people have managed to get ALL artists in their music library to display the artist profile picture instead of the album artwork, but not how they managed to get the album artwork back instead of the artist profile images.
I find this heavily annoying having just invested in a 64gb (32gb wasn't enough for my library of music) and ironically, i now don't want to listen to any of it because its so difficult to mentally register what i have in front of me, and make a choice...
    help!

I know there is a setting in iTunes but I am not sure if it applies to iOS. Especially if songs are purchased directly on iOS but you can experiment with it.
In Preferences > Store > Share details about your library with Apple

  • Music from shared library will not display by artist or album.

How do I set up home sharing to display music from shared library by artist and album?

I am not sure if the fix that cuatro476804 suggested is the issue here.  I have also been experiencing freezing issues with my Apple TV since the latest Apple TV/iTunes updates.  Here is the bug report I just submitted to Apple:
Since the last update to Apple TV or the last updates to iTunes (not sure which is the culprit) Apple TV freezes when trying to play music streamed from iTunes on a Mac.
I have an iMac running iTunes [11.01 (12)] and a 3rd gen Apple TV running the latest OS release as of 12-20-2012.  Since the last software update for iTunes and Apple TV, the Apple TV will freeze when playing a song after about 10 - 20 seconds.  This happens whether I am using my computer directly or when using the "remote" app on my iPhone 5.  I can restart my song again by pressing play, but the song will freeze again after another 10 - 20 seconds.
I can temporarily cure the bug by unplugging my Apple TV for 5 seconds to cold start the gizmo, and then both iTunes and Remote seem to be able to stream without any issues.
but when I try to play music the next day, the same freezing issue occurs again like clockwork.
I thought this was just a rare buggy issue, maybe even a WiFi or other communication problem, but I have been playing tunes on my Apple TV for a couple years streamed from my iMac with not problems.  This only started happening after the last software update.  Again, not sure if this is the Apple TV update, or the iTunes 10.01 (12) update causing this.
Daily rebooting of the Apple TV is not an acceptable solution.  Were this a Microsoft product, sure, but Apple product... its just supposed to work :-)
I hope others will report the same issue so this gets repaired soon.

  • "Sort Artist" does not work on iPod / How to sort by album artist

I have many albums in my music collection that contain songs by different artists. In iTunes, I have set all these songs to the same "Sort Artist" so that they all appear under the same artist's name (the album artist's name).
However, when I sync my iPod, the "Sort Artist" settings don't carry over. For example, a compilation album with 10 songs by 10 different artists would show up under one single artist in iTunes (per my sort artist settings), but on the iPod the songs show up under 10 different artists. Is there any way to fix this problem? I basically want to sort my music by album artist, instead of just the artist.
The strange part is when I browse my iPod on my computer, the compilation albums are properly sorted under one artist, but it's still wrong when I browse on the iPod itself.

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.
Providing the spelling for the artists is exactly the same of course.
