Music Missing on iPhone

Help. I upgraded to ios5 yesterday and now about half of the music on my iPhone is gone. The screen shows the cover of the the album, but there's nothing there. Also, the covers on the screen (when something does play) are out of sync with the songs.

If they are still in the store, and you purchased them with the same account that you are currently logged in with, then they should show - they aren't hidden (hiding and unhiding) ?

  • IOS5 update now music "missing" on iPhone

Since updating to iOS5 i have noticed that it has changed some of the Artists names on my iPhone 4. iTunes is still "correct". Everything is done on auto sync.
For example on iTunes if an artist has another artist featuring on the track I will amend the track title to say Song X Featuring Artist X and the Artist stays as the main artist only. Now all songs featuring a second artist appear in a separate list - Dr Dre Featuring Eminem or Snoop Dogg is now as 3 artists not 1 (Dr. Dre)...
Some other examples of music that has moved:
    At The Drive In
    At The Drive-In
Appears as two separate artists because of the - which is present in itunes for all At The Drive-In songs. Same issue with Blink-182. Another issue: Under artist Justin Timberlake has the "Justified" Album under his name but "Future/Sex/Love/Sounds" is not there. I can only find it under Composers. It has done similar things for Compliations aswell. When this thing happend on my iPod Classic i could manually edit the Artist name on iTunes to make them appear under 1 artist and remove compliations from the search as some artists went missing.
Also some album artwork has gone from my iPhone when it is on iTunes and was on my iPhone prior to the i0S5 update.
Anyone know how to get the artist names to change and all albums appear under artist on my iPhone when iTunes is "correct"?

I have fixed the issue. It does take a little work.
On your itunes view right click and add the album artist list. iOS5 uses the "Album Artist" instead of the "Artist" to sort which is a little odd. If Album Artist is not complete it falls back on Artist. Just ensure that Album Artist is the same as the Artist.
E.g. Blink 182 was coming up as Blink-182 or Blink 182 on different songs. I just made the Album Artist field consistent across all songs. If the song has someone featuring on it i would add this to the song title not the Artist or Album Artist. That solved that part.
Re. Compilations if you go to ipod on your iphone if you click more you can see all your compliations. I don't use this feature i just look under Artist. Therefore i selected every song on my itunes "Get Info" and this and only this tick the part of compliation box and ensure it says NO. The Complations field will be empty for every single song in itunes.
If you wanted to use Complations on things like "Now thats what i call music" or whatever you can go into the song on Get Info and select it as part of compliation.

  • How can I delete all the music from my iPhone and reinstall it?

I am trying to delete all the music from my iPhone 5 and reinstall it.  The names of some of the albums and the artists did not import correctly from my CDs.  I went back into iTunes and made corrections, synced my phone and no changes were made to the music on my phone.  And two of the albums (I only have albums, not individual songs) are duplicated on the phone, though they are not in my iTunes library.
I have gone into iTunes, selected the device at the top right corner, selected all the music that showed up in the window - gone to the Edit menu, selected "all" and then "delete."  The list of tracks disappears from the device list.  I then synced the phone again, and the albums are still on the phone.  What am I missing, please?  I've even shut the phone down and restarted it, synced it again, but nothing changes.
    Help, please?

Follow the instructions here or here; the first set of instructions may require a power source other than a computer's USB port, so you should have one of these before proceeding. Your iPod is a fourth generation model.

  • Hello everybody, is anybody else having problems exporting music to their iphone 4's from their itunes 10.6.1. (7)?

hello everybody, is anybody else having problems exporting music to their iphone 4's from their itunes 10.6.1. (7)? i sure am. somehting is way differant. i used to be able to simply drag, and drop albums, artists, and entire genres to my phone without a worry. now i drag an album to my phone, and it will only add a couple of the songs. so i drag and drop again, and maybe even a third time to get all whole album on there. oh, and the album artwork is a no-show. i dont know what i'm missing. it's sure not what i'm used to. anyways, i'm new to this support community deal. thank you in advance for any help.
    much respect,
    tommy bravo

After further testing, I noticed that iTunes not only becomes totally unresponsive but will start using all the CPU until I kill the process. After restarting, it works again for a while and then it dies again...

  • Missing songs iphone downloaded and sync to back up.

I purchase my music from iTunes directly on the iPhone. Periodically I will sync to my HP laptop (running Vista). Recently I purchased several albums and some individual songs, as well as a few apps.
A couple of days ago I tried to sync to my laptop (as I have done many times before). I plugged in the iPhone and it began the sync. Suddenly it stopped telling me the sync was complete.
I looked and found that at least 2 albums were missing (two that I had just purchased) and several individual songs.
The purpose of this most recent sync was to ensure I had a back up of the songs. Performing the sync is what wiped out the songs.
Please understand that I am not purchasing music with the computer and syncing to the phone. I am purchasing on the phone and syncing with the computer for backup.
After reading Apple's policy on their support pages they indicate I will have to purchase these again. This is ridiculous. It is the apple software and/or the iPhone that screwed up, not me and I don't appreciate having to purchase them again.
Is there another way to get this music back. As I said, this music was purchased within the past two weeks, if not the past week. If I can't get my music back I will cease my iPhone subscription, I will stop purchasing music from the iPhone, and I will cease my plans to purchase an iPad. No more Apple products if they insist I can't get my music back for free.
I'm not being extreme. Just reading the Apple web pages caused my blood pressure to raise. I hesitate going forward even if I do get my music back due to how arrogant their policy is.
I know I'm not the only one that has had this problem, so I hope someone else can clarify what I need to do to resolve this.

PS More seriously, you are not talking to Apple in these forums, just other users like yourself who volunteer advice. In that regard, you might want to also post in the forum devoted to the iTunes store:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=797
    And contact the store directly:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
It is possible that the "no replacement" policy may be tied to the terms of the licenses under which Apple is allowed to sell music through its store, but I don't have any specific info on that.

  • Album Art Missing in iPhone 16Gb 3G

When i transfer albums to my iPhone only some of the albums display album art. Every album in my iTunes library has album art, most of it I have manually attached to each album.
when i use the iTunes interface to look at the music on my iPhone it displays the album art in the "Selected Item" section in the bottom left corner. i have checked multiple albums, and every song in those albums has the artwork. so it displays the art in my iTunes library, it displays the art when i view the music on my iPhone in the iTunes interface, but it does not display the art when i scroll through the music using the iPhone.
am i totally missing something here?
    Message was edited by: ajaj7411

This has been issue for long time even for iPods before iPhone.
    The cause is this.
There are multiple ways of manually applying artwork to a song in iTunes. Only 1 is the best way to make sure artwork goes with the file.
    The three ways are:
    1. Drag a file/image to the bottom window where it displays artwork when a song is selected.
    2. Using the "Find Album Artwork" option in the right click menu for a song.
    3. Using "Get Info" option to bring up the Tags of the song and pasting a image into the artwork tab.
The 3rd is the best and only option you should use.
    Here is why.
If you use the little artwork window and put images in there, or if you tell iTunes to find artwork, what it does is uses the image supplied or the one it finds and then saves that image to a hidden file on your computer. Then iTunes notes/saves a pointer to that file matched to song. So "iTunes" when playing or looking at the file will say, oh there is a pointer to a file, let me go find that file and display the image. All good and dandy for iTunes.
However when you move that file (manually to another machine or sync to a device) it just moves the media file. The hidden image doesn't go with it as iTunes just uses it.
So the 3rd option of using "Get Info" to get into the tag editor does it different.
In the tag editor you are literally editing data contained in the media file itself. Thus if on the Artwork tab in the tag editor if you paste an image in there, when saved it will embed the image into the media file itself. Thus if you move the file to another computer or sync, that file contains the artwork thus will always be available to it no matter where it is moved.
So in summary, ONLY ever add artwork by using the ArtWork tab in the tag editor (Get Info option).
Nice thing is too when you do, since it literally changes the file (can see date change property update...and filesize) then when you sync it will notice a file change and update the song on the device. If you use the other options, no change is ever done to the physical file thus you will notice the file not change it's change date or size, thus on syncing after assigning artwork those other two ways, it will not retransfer the file because to the iPhone/iPod, it has not changed so there is no need.

  • Please help there is no music in my iphone

I have Iphone 3gs. I LOVE my phone and it is my life, so please help. Here is the story:
Yesterday, I downloaded couple of apps. The sound for the apps went away (meaning: I still can play music (ipod), and there are ringtone but all my apps did not have sound even though it was not muted or put on low volume). I tried everything and I deleted those new apps and did not work. Then reset my iphone to the factory setting. The key note here is my iphone music was playing fine and the music on my ipod was there before the reseting. My apps sound did not work in the begining after resetting but suddenly my apps sound came back to normal. I noteiced all the music on my iphone (ipod) was missing. I had everything else like my notes, my apps and my customerized calender and etc. except for my music. So then, I tried to sync (ie add) the music that I had on my computer to my iphone via itune. It does not sync my itune for some reason. It does sync though like apps and stuff but the music. So I restarted my iphone and itune and I still can not sync.
This is what it says everytime I try to sync my iphone:
It says preparing to sync for a long time and then it says "The Iphone "X" cannot be synced. The device timed out"
What can I do. please help. Where did all my previous music on my ipod went?

    please help

  • I can't access the music on my iphone anymore to delete it. What is going on?

For some reason the tab "on this device" is missing. I can still add music to my iphone 4S but not see what's on it or delete content. Please help!

Well, it turns out it just disappears when the window itself is a bit too small. Now I feel idiotic, but thank you for the advice, it made realize that that might be the issue

  • Itune do not sync all my music on my iPhone 4

I Sync all my music library on my iPhone4 and iPad. iTunes tell me that I have 2195 songs to Sync. On my iPad, all the songs is their.
But on my iPhone, he only Sync 2046 songs (the size used on my iPad versus my iPhone confirm that I have song missing 0.7 GB missing).
I still have 4.8 GB Free on my iPhone, this is not a memory problem.
I have removed all my music on my iPhone, and he is syncing the same amount of music.
If is their a reason that the iPhone will Sync less song?

and interestingly: This solution does not work:
    /t5/Music/Ovi-Player-indexing-files-from-folders-it-s-not-allowed-to/m-p/595905/highlight/true#M1346...
I removed the "my music" folder, but still I have all songs from this folder in OVI Music.
I want to completely get rid of all indexed music, and only have OVI watch a specific folder...

  • Cannot remove music from my iPhone?

Okay so this is getting a little bit ridiculous.
I've been trying for an hour or so to remove ALL my music from my iPhone 4S, but to no avail. I've tried unchecking everything in my iTunes library and syncing, deleting my music library and syncing, "manually managing" my itunes library then checking nothing and syncing", pretty much everything I can think of.
I am aware that I can manually remove songs one at a time from the phone itself by swiping, but I'm not really prepared to do that to 1,500 songs.
Is there anything I'm missing? It occurs to me that it should not be this hard to simply wipe all music from my device. I'm not usually inept when it comes to technology so this is really driving me up the wall. Anyone have any ideas?

It should remove the music once you click on your phone in the left pane and go to the music tab at the top of the iTunes screen. I have tried this myself just now with my iPhone 4S. Once I deselected sync all music, the capacity bar at the bottom changed to show no music. If I had selected sync, all my music would have been removed from my phone.
Since you removed the music from directly from the phone and not iTunes, once you connect to iTunes and sync, the same music will be synced back onto the phone.
Try playing with the settings and see what you come up with. Also, try closing iTunes and restart your computer amd see if this fixes things.

  • Syncing music to my iPhone doesn't work

After the iOS7 update all of my music is no longer on my phone. I always choose to sync my entire music library. iTunes shows that all the music is synced and the albums show up on my phone but most are grayed out and I cannot play them. Is there a fix for this? Am I missing something. Please help!
I have over 6k songs and really don't want to have to use playlists to transfer music. I bought the 64gb phone so I don't need to use iCloud, This is extremely frustrating.

I work around this by turning iTunes Match on on my computer, but keeping it off on my iOS devices.  If you like this idea, go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores on your iPhone and turn off iTunes Match.  Then sync your device to your computer.
You may have to check iTunes settings on your computer to make sure it syncs music for you.  I don't recall if that happens automatically - i don't think it does.  When your iPhone is plugged in to your iTunes, open the Music tab under iPhone in iTunes on your computer and verify (or change) its sync settings.

  • Ios 5.0.1 upgrade music missing

    Hello there,
i have upgraded my iphone 4 to ios 5.0.1. Everything worked fine, so it seems. After restoring my previously made backup,  i did not see any music or apps.
The App Prob is already solved but the music is still missing.
I have made several synchs via itunes with no success. There is no music.
Strange thing is that the storage bar is showing that 5,5 gb is used for music but it did not appear in ipod.
I am stuck with this problem momentarily and need help. Does anyone have an idea or goes through the same like me with a solution at hand?
    Thanks for your help.
    u.

Connect your device to computer.  Select your iPhone under 'Devices' on the left Pane. Then on the right Pane, select MUSIC tab.  Uncheck the box SYNC MUSIC, click the SYNC button on lower right window and let iTunes remove all music from your iPhone.  After completion, check the SYNC MUSIC box and click the SYNC button.  Your music should be back into your iPhone.

  • Artists showing up as Various artists when I sync music with my iPhone 4S, even though in iTunes the song tags have been changed

My artists are showing up as Various artists when I sync music with my iPhone 4S, even though in iTunes the song tags have been changed.
    Am I missing something?
For example, I have 3 songs that are part of a compilation CD. I've change them to no longer being part of a compilation, and changes all of the tags of Arist and Album artist to the artists name, however they still show up as 'Various Artists' on my iPhone.
    Any ideas?

You may find you need to remove the songs and then add them back again.
