Music moved from hardrive A to Harddrive B can't be found by iTunes

A Windows techie moved my music library from Acer "C" harddisk to "D" data disk to "speed up" my computer. The music seems to be there, but iTunes says.."original file could not be found. Would you like to find it?" "D" disk has a "Music" file with all the song names, as if the music is there, but I do not know how to get iTunes to understand and hook up to the new music location. Can anyone give a step-by-step (literally) so iTunes can find and play the music again? Unfortunately, only a step-by-step can help this dummy. Thx

Is this the method you followed for moving your music to the extrenal disk?

If this is the case you should have your iTunes folder containing iTunes Library.itl in My Music on your C: drive - this is the database iTunes keeps about your music.
You should have an iTunes Music folder containing your music files on the external drive, and when you go into Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced>>General, the location of the iTunes Music folder should be set to the external drive -something like x:\iTunes Music.
If this is so, what you say doesn't quite make sense because iTunes saves downloaded music in the designated iTunes Music folder which is on your external drive not your c: drive.
Does the article describe what you did, or did you do something else for example copy the entire iTunes folder onto the external drive?
It is important that I understand exactly what you did if I am to help.
One general point about external drive, you must always ensure that it is plugged in when you start iTunes, or iTunes will default back to the internal drive.

Restore the device from the backup created.
If no backup exists, there is nothing to recover.

Have you tried restarting the router, the Apple TV and iTunes.

  • My old computer (a Sony) with my iTunes crashed. I have a new MAC and want to make sure I can keep all of my music (mostly from old CD's that have been lost). I bought iTunes match hoping that would work but it isn't using the data on my phone. HELP!

Since you have purchased a new Mac (which, BTW, is not typed in all capitals) why not buy a Time Capsule <http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/> which is designed specifically to work with OS X and Time Machine?
You don't say what part of your Sony "crashed." If it was not the HDD it is possible to take the computer apart, put the HDD in an external case, then recover the data off of it (including the music) simply drag-n-drop. If it was the HDD that "crashed" that makes it more difficult.
If you are able to recover the music from the Sony you can then add it to the iTunes library on the Mac and iTunes Match will then scan, match and upload the tracks to be mirrored in the cloud.

    Hi Rodobaldo,
Let's try to clear up this issue for you, I'd like to clear out the music on your iPod first. You'll want to find the Sync Music Checkbox, uncheck it, then Apply or Sync:
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPod nano, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.
If the above does not resolve your issue, see the following article:

  • I am moving from the UK to USA. Can I take my iTunes with me?

I have an IPhone and iPad and have my music, videos etc saved on my PC and iCloud. I am moving from London to Chicago so can I transfer my iTunes account to the US when I set up a new PC there?

    radioactivem,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unlike some Mac models, the eMac power supply is not auto-switching. Refer to <a href="http://www.currentsolutions.com/knowledge/countryspeco-z.htm" target=_blank.Volyage Specifications by Country</a>, your UK eMac runs 240v/50Hz while Us power is 120v/60Hz. While the results of plugging your UK eMac into a US power outlet won't be as spectacular as the other way around, it still won't be good for your Mac. The least intrusive fix is to visit an electronics shop and look for a power supply transformer to convert the US power feed to the UK voltage/frequency for your eMac.

  • New internet provider (moved from Comcast to Uverse) and I can't get my new network to stay put, and I can't get my Time Capsule to stop blinking yellow

I have moved from Comcast to Uverse, and can't get my TIme Capsule to stop blinking yellow.  I know it isn't updating.  Additionally, I can't get my computer to recognize the 'new' wireless network.  It keeps changing back to the 'old' network.

You have two separate issues here. although both were created with the recent changes on your network.
Find out why the Time Capsule is blinking amber as follows:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click directly on the the Time Capsule icon
Click directly on the amber dot....and another window will open to explain more about the issue...along with suggested actions that you can take to remedy the issue.
If you want your Mac to connect first to the "new" network....
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    Open Network
Click on WiFi on the left
Click Advanced at the lower right
Make sure that the name of the network that you want the Mac to connect to first appears at the top of the connection order list. Drag the name to the top if it is not there now.
    Click OK
    Click Apply
Now your Mac will attemp to connect first to the network that you positioned at the top of the connection order list.

  • Moved from Oz to the Uk but can't access UK app store

Have moved from Australia to the uk and have changed my information in my iTunes store and registered it with a uk debit card etc. However when I go onto the app store it still shows Australian Apps and when I go to download them it says this appleid can only be used with the Uk store... How do I access the Uk store? I want my iPad, and iPhone, to automatically go to the uk store. When I click support at the bottom of the featured page it goes to a .com.au website.... It obviously thinks I'm still in Australia.
I also can't use bbc iplayer app, despite being in the uk... It says it's not supported in my country?!
I know there's a whole heap of threads about is but none that seem to address my problem directly.  If you can help you'll be doing me a huge favour!
    Thanks in advance!

First, on your phone: Settings>Store...sign out...now sign back in, then sync your phone while logged into the UK store on your computer...still using the same Apple ID, correct?

my music files were on my employer furnished laptop.  i recd a new laptop & IT moved all music files but didnt install itunes ..if i now install a current version of itunes on my new business computer will it automatically find/sync my itunes music files

Once iTunes is installed, it should find all your files.  Syncing the files requires you to have signed into iTunes with your Apple ID first.
In case iTunes is confused about where your files are, this article should help:

  • Moving from PC to MAc, but want to keep all the old iTunes settings! Help!

I did this just fine, from PC to MacBook. But one problem I'm having is that my new iTunes library on the Mac is completely devoid of my old iTunes settings on my pc - my song ratings, my playlists, all the songs I've had checked and unchecked, date added, etc. Is there any way to migrate (I went from pc to mac, all the music files came over no problem) but to keep your iTunes information so you don't have to sort through all the songs all over again!!! Help!
    Thanks,
    Marty

    Hi Martyputz,
This happened, because iTunes on a Windows doesn't really work like iTunes for Mac. Read this [article|http://lifehacker.com/software/itunes/geek-to-live--how-to-move-an-itu nes-library-from-a-pc-to-mac-and-back-242468.php] and follow carefully the instructions...
    Hope this helps!

  • All purchased music missing from library on my mac.  can't find most files on my hd either.  help

I switched from a computer to a mac in the fall. ever since some of the music in the library couldn't be played due to the file could not be located error.  upon getting a new iphone a couple of days ago, i now no longer have any music at all in my library, nor are the files anywhere on my hard drive.  do I have to download all previously purchased songs again?  thanks

Time to start fresh anew, since it seems you may have really mucked up the library.
Hold down option key while you click on iTunes. Then chose NEW LIBRARY.
Now... re-download all past music purchases.  Should be good to go.
