Music muted on "Next Track"

I've noticed that while playing music that when the track is advanced (either on screen or using the headset controls) that the volume is slightly muted. The volume indicator in the iPod app does not change. When the track is paused and then restarted the actual volume is "restored" to what it was previously, but once again the volume indicator does not change.
Upon further investigation, it appears to happen only when other "audio" apps (I'm using Pandora and NPR News) are loaded, but pushed to the background. It only seems to happen with both apps loaded, and not only a single one. Closing one of the apps from the "task manager" while the music is playing will also restore the volume to the expected level. In all cases, the volume indicator does not change when the music is muted/restored.

On my alltel 8330 if you press and hold the volume + or - keys on the right side of the device it will jog to the next or previous track depending on the key used...

Last point...who archives? On my regular email page I now have the Archive icon to the left of my Delete icon which I would prefer was to the left, first in the line as this is the icon I use mostly. With Folders, my Sent and Trash lists, who needs to archive?
I can help you only with the placement of the icon placement -- if you right-mouse click on the toolbar, then select Customize Toolbar, you can move an icon to where you want it to be.

  • HT201272 I have several long classical music downloads that do not finish or skip after a minute to the next track. The iTunes store recognizes these as successful downloads.  They are not, but there is no way to complete the downloads now.  Or is there?

Using ITunes support was useless.  The support help says that they can be downloaded if I go to the store again.  But the store says that they are downloaded and will not download them. It will only allow me to delete them or more correctly "hide" them.
There are issues with downloads taken on two separate computers.
Another question is why do all of the earlier Classical downloads, made five or so year ago or more, cut the very ends of each track of Classical music short and cue up the next track too quickly?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic tune (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • Music skips to the next track in the middle of a song.

I just bought an 80gb ipod classic... seems that some of my music tends to skip to the next track without any warning. I thought it was a problem with the ipod so I returned it and got another one and it happens the same way.
Is this a syncing issue. I have updated all my software, run cache cleaners - even restored my ipod and nothing seems to help. Does anyone else have this issue?
Will converting my whole MP3 collection to AAC help this? Also would you recommend doing that?
    Thanks.

I have an 8 gb ipod nano that does the same thing. The songs that have this problem skip at the same point in the song every time they play...it's pretty consistent. And it only happens when playing directly from the ipod (not from the computer). It also seems like this problem is affecting entire albums or particular artists in some cases. I've tried comparing the summaries, but healthy songs have the same attributes as the problem ones. In many cases I no longer have the original CD to be able to re-rip the songs.
    Any suggestions?

  • IOS 5 iPhone 4 no repeat button in music but its stuck on single repeat so i  have to manual click next to hear the next track ***!!

iOS 5 iPhone 4 no repeat button in music only shuffle but its stuck on single repeat so i  have to manual click next to hear the next track.  Very annoying i dont even want to listen to my music.  Even on shuffle it was pick a random song then just repeat that track.

With the track selected and olaying, (either the 'musical note' or 'artwork' showing), tap once in the centre of the screen to bring up the sub header - the original 'repeat', 'repeat once' and 'shuffle' icons are displayed - tap once again to hide the menu. Hope this helps.

  • Ipad mini next track

hi, i used to be abble to swipe the screen to the next track playing on music, but not now. is this stopped with ios7? thank you.

    Hi Tony,
To skip over a song playing in iOS 7 and go to the next song - in a playlist, on iTunes radio, etc, go to the double right arrow symbol and tap, as mentioned in the iPad User Guide -
    iPad User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1595/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf
    See page 52 and 53.
You can also use Siri to do the same thing - See page 56.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • TS1468 Why can't I edit album track information in the INFO window, and more to the next track without having to do each track seperate?

In iTunes 10, I could edit multiple track information in the (Info) tab and click to move to the next track within that album. Now with iTunes 11.1.3.8, I have to do each track seperate. It will not let me edit track information (as if track numbering), and click next to move to another track within the same album. It's a pain to have to do each song , and then click on the next song I want to edit. My music library is 171 GB (47,185 files & 19,498 folders). I can find the Duplicate files, but I can't edit like I use to in iTunes 10. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreicated!!!!! I will be an old man at the rate I'm going now.

Either select a single track, Get Info, then use the Next/Previous buttons to move between them, or select multiple tracks, Get Info, and edit common properties. The next and previous buttons do not appear in multi-track Get Info (and never have).
Regarding duplicates, Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)

  • When Bluetooth headphones disconnect, applications become muted until next launch

When I disconnect my Bluetooth headphones, either by choice, or due to a dead battery, the applications that were routing audio to the headphones become muted until the next time they are launched. Reconnecting the Bluetooth headphones doesn't unmute them.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Use an application with audio going out to Bluetooth headphones.
    2. Disconnect headphones.
    Expected Results:
Audio returns to Mac builtin speakers
    Actual Results:
Application is muted until next launch. Reconnect headphones, and the app is _still_ muted.
Anyone else experience this problem? It's especially annoying when I'm playing video games that can't be quickly relaunched without losing progress.
    System:
    Bose AE2W Bluetooth Headphones
    Mac OS X 10.9.1 Mavericks
    13" mid-2013 MacBook Air, Intel Core i7

If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • Why won't iTunes continue to the next track in an album?

    Hello.
After recently updating to iTunes 5.2 on my primary computer (a 1.5 GHz. 15-inch PowerBook G4 running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard)), iTunes will not continue to the next song in an album once a song is finished. In "Album" view, for instance, if I mouse over an album and click "Play Album," iTunes will play the first track on that album, but then will not proceed to play the next track once the first track is finished playing. What's interesting is that I also cannot click the "Next" button (>>) in the upper left-hand corner of the iTunes window and have iTunes play the next track. If I do press the "Next" button, iTunes will instantly stop all music playback and deselect the highlighted abum (if any).
I have tried rebooting my computer and relaunching iTunes multiple times, but all trials have failed to solve the issue. In addition to restarting my computer, I have also tried reinstalling the iTunes application, but again with no luck.
I've looked through the "Preferences" menu (iTunes - Preferences) and have experimented with some of the vaious settings, but have also failed to find a solution.
In addition to my PowerBook, I have iTunes 10.5.2 running on my MacBook without any issues. The PowerPC archetecture of my PowerBook should not have anything to deal with it, should it?
Any help, suggestions, or comments regarding the issue would be greatly appreaciated.
    Thank you very much.

Okay, I figured out what the problem was. I had to "check" the checkboxes along the left-hand-side of of the track names. iTunes now plays through all of the tracks like it should. :-)

  • New iPod Classic jumps to next track after a few seconds of certain songs

I have several tracks that will not play on my new iPod Classic (80 gig) for more than a few seconds. After a few seconds, the iPod jumps to the next track. I have played the same songs on my last generation iPod with no problem and in Itunes and Windows Media player with no problem. There is clearly an issue with the new iPod hardware/software. Anyone else having this issue and found a fix.
I have already done a complete reinstall of the new iTunes and restored my iPod to factory settings and installed the latest iPod software.

Actually - I just noticed your solution to the issue. I tried PT's solution, which I mention above and it didn't work. I haven't tried your solution - however, I have considered it. Here's the problem with it though. The first problem is having to sift through 5400+ songs on my ipod to know which ones are having the issue and which ones need to be burned. The second issues is that the songs are compressed mp3's. Converting the compressed mp3's into a cd and reimporting it back into mp3 further degrades the file - you're essentially making an mp3 from an mp3. It actually makes no sense to do this unless you've purchased your music from an online store and therefore don't have the original cd's. Since all of my music is from my cd collection, it would be simpler to re-import the songs from the cds. But, it's really the first issue I mentioned that is the kicker - I don't want to go through my entire music collection to find out which ones are having the problem. The problem isn't the tracks as far as I am concerned - I still have my previous generation iPod and the same tracks play fine. The same tracks play fine in iTunes and Windows Media Player. The problem is the new iPod. If Apple can't resolve the issue through an iPod/iTunes update in the next week or so, I'll just return the iPod and stick with my old one.

  • What happened to the "next" track command?

the new itunes has so many falws that I am seriously looking for alternatives.  One of the most frustrating is the next button that enables one to go the to next track when editing individual track data without having to jusp back out to the album level and mannually select the next track. Is there a fix to this????

I just did a little more digging.  They are there for TV Shows and Music, but not for movies.

  • Songs cut short by skip to next track

I recently built a new system and upgraded from XP to Vista. However based on other posts I do not believe that either OS or hardware are a factor.
After migrating my music and library to the new system everything appeared to have worked perfectly. However I noticed that certain songs are being cut off short of their total play time. The time appears to be random from song to song but never changes for any particular song. If you move past the trigger point the song will play till the end. If you play the song in Quicktime it works fine.
I have checked the time in the Library.xml file, removed and replaced iTunes and installed earlier versions. Nothing works. This error does not appear to be common but does seem to affect a wide range of OS and hardware (yes even on Apple computers). Just search these forums for "skip next track".
None of the posts I have read provide any kind of solution. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I have a similar problem. I had accidently deleted my entire iTunes library when I reformatted my hard drive. I had a backup on an external hard drive. When I reimported the library to the reformatted hard drive I noticed the same problem that you have.
You might try what I tried. I opened the songs that skip in a sound editing program, one in which you can see the sound wave track. When I do this I can see that these songs now have gaps in them.....pretty much evenly spaced throughout the song. These gaps are about 3 seconds long, and are spaced around 30 seconds apart. One of my songs has gaps every 33 seconds. Others vary, some 23 seconds apart, other 31 seconds, others 35 seconds....but all of the gaps are about 3 seconds long.
When playing any of these "swiss cheese" songs that are filled with gaps, either in iTunes or on my iPod, as soon it gets to the first gap, it skips to the next song.

  • HT203167 one of my tracks i.e. Sultans of swing ( Dire Straits) should last for 10.54 minutes but now only plays for ten second then carries on to the next track, how can I restore the original download ?

One of my tracks i.e. Sultans of Swing (Dire Straits) should last for 10.54 minutes but cuts off after 11 seconds, then plays the next track.
How can I re-download the track again to restore it?

Delete problem track from library (if it is an iTunes Store purchase and you entitled to redownload past purchases - stop otherwise!)
    Close iTunes
    Open iTunes
Select iTunes Store in left-hand column
    Select Purchased in right-hand column
Select Music and Not on this computer
The track should be listed now with a small cloud symbol which lets you download it.
If you start downloading the track in step 7 then... While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked. (Should should help improve the reliablility of future downloads made with this build of iTunes.)
If the above hasn't helped then... contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Music DVD - Play All / Track selection

I've built a DVD project with buttons which link to stories for each individual track, which returns to the menu and the next track's button.
For the 'Play All' button, do I just use a normal button pointing to Chapter 1 - or do need to create a story sequence? If I point the button to chapter 1, will only this chapter play, or will the entire feature (13 music clips in one track) play right through to the end?

    Marc:
You can do it of both ways: plating the track chapter 1 or building a Story with all chapters included.
