Music no longer listed on iTunes

I transferred my music to an external hard drive and was unable to see the library on iTunes unless I double click each song. By doing so, it returns the songs to the list. I've since then returned the music back to the original hard drive. Doing this, I still have to double click each song. Please help.

hi confused and lost!
okay, to what extent does your situation resemble Mark's?
I get the impression that once Mark has double-clicked his track files they
b stay
in the library. do yours keep vanishing after you get them back? or is something else happening?

  • Updated latest iTunes = Long list of iTunes Permission Repairs Keep Showing Up

This was a well known 'problem' on the last system I was using which was Snow Leopard. Everytime you repaired permissions you got a mile long list of permissions that could not be repaired. This was said by Apple to be normal and ignore it.
On my new latest model mini with Mountain Lion (10.8.5) I haven't had this happen.... until today when I updated to the latest iTiunes (11.1)
Now I got a long list of iTunes permissions that require 'repair',  however unlike the previous SL business, disk utility says they ARE repaired. But now I've tried repair permissions several times already and they keep showing up

I mean, ***??? AGAIN with this baloney???

You are correct in that it isn't an end all solution to system errors, but it can be a good thing to do every once in a while as a sort of preemptive measure against possible problems that may or may not become real problems down the line. And not all of us like the conformity of using the system for things other than just running apps "the way they where meant to" all the time.
Say you like to create your own apps or try things out in a more advanced than average kind of way and thereby finding new uses for the computer and it's OS. I'm not even talking about hacking the system in any way, just using it for more than browsing, checking your e-mail, making music or editing photos and videos. You don't even have to be very advanced about it or even that experimental to sometimes run into a bit of a mess.
For instance: installers sometimes take ownership of files during installation and aren't always super-tidy when they "clean up" after themselves, even if the app and its installer is built specifically for Mac OS by professionals. As in the op's case (and mine) where the iTunes 11.1 update, built and probably double or even triple checked by Apple themselves, managed to mess up a little by omitting certain information during the installation. It happens sometimes, and when it does it is better to be safe than sorry should something go wrong because of it.
We are still running a 64-bit OS with tons of code all over the place. It's pretty advanced stuff, and there are a lot of things that can go wrong even if you are careful.
Wow, sorry for the rant. I'm just so unbelievably tired of people saying things like "you're doing it wrong" without even trying to answer the op's question.
    I'm out, peace!

  • My Apple TV no longer lists the ITunes store, netflix and many other options.  This just started happening last night.  I've tried unplugging and nothing changes.  Any ideas?

Just recently my Apple TV quit listing the ITunes in the option bar and no longer lists Netflix and other many other options in the other option bar.  I tried to unplug the device, but nothing helps. Any ideas?

Glad to hear I am not the only one with these issues. Seems as though this is an Apple issue. I have an ATV 1st gen.  Can not purchase or preview music via iTunes on my  ATV. Can not listen to Internet radio on the ATV nor on iTunes on my MAC. for whatever reason videos can be previewed on my ATV but none can be purchased. I have had the purchase problem for awhile but now the Internet radio is new as of 2/26.

  • Purchased music no longer listed as "Purchased"

    Hello,
I moved my music library from my internal iMac HD to an external HD. I had to reassign the music library link in the properties and add the music files back into iTunes by selecting "add to library" from the File menu. Now, even though I have all of my music in my library, all the music I purchased from the iTunes Store does not show in the "Purchased" folder under "Store" in iTunes.
Does anyone know how I can get iTunes to recognize the music I purchased from the iTunes Store again?
    Thanks.

I had a similar situation. My R/X First I purchased an iTunes song. Then the "Purchase" folder was automatically created under the Store in iTunes. Next I opened my music library and sorted the songs by the column named "Kind". Then I selected and highlighted all the songs that were shown as "Purchased AAC" and "Protected AAC". Then I dragged and dropped the files into the Purchase folder. Hope that works.

  • How do i find my music that is listed in itunes and is accompanied by a "!"?

many song on my itunes are not playable and are accompanied by a "!". when i try to play them i get this message:
The song  xxxxxxxx  could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?
how do i locate these songs are restore them to my list?
i paid for many of them and feel cheated.
    thanks

If you are positive they are not on your computer try downloading a second time.
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.
i paid for many of them and feel cheated.
Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.  It isn't Apple's job to ensure you always have access to previous purchases, just the way if you lose a CD you cannot go back to the store and expect them to give you another one.

  • Cloud music no longer appearing in iTunes

Most of my music is gone from iTunes. It was a sudden change and I can't really pinpoint what might have happened to make it take place. The music still shows up on my iPhone, which makes me more confused. I'm sure it's something basic that I'm missing, but any advice would help. It's very frustrating to think that the music I've bought from here over the years has just bit the dirt.
    Thanks

You certainly could not have bought FCPX via itunes. It can only be purchased using the Mac App Store. If you are indeed looking in iTunes, you won't find it. Start the Mac App Store application - it is right there in the Apple menu on your mac = make sure you are logged in with the same Apple ID used to purchase it and it should be there for you.

  • When I view the music on my iPhone in iTunes, how do I view this by album, rather than in a long list of songs?

When I view the music on my iPhone in iTunes, how do I view this by album, rather than in a long list of songs?  When I view the music stored on my iMac, I get a choice to view by Songs, Artists, Albums, Composers, etc.  But I don't get any choice with the music on my iPhone.
Its really hard to manage the music on my iPhone.  I want to quickly remove albums and add new ones.
Is there a solution that I haven't seen?

Create a playlist, add/delete albums and sync this playlist.
You don't need to manually manage the iPhone music to do this.

  • I accidentally erased a music album that I purchased on iTunes. How can I get the iTunes store to recognize that it is no longer in my iTunes library and download it again?

Delete the broken links in iTunes then look at your purchased list to redownload.
If this happened because you were deleting files from the iTunes folder in Finder, don't.  You have to let iTunes do all the deleting and moving or you will end up with broken links.

  • IPod Nano appears on my list of iTunes devices. Summary tab shows 928 manually managed songs; music tab however shows nothing. Where did the songs go?

I recently undated software all around, reloaded windows 8 and upgraded to windows 8.1.  My iPod Nano (1.0.4) appears on my list of iTunes (11.1.3) devices. The summary tab for my iPod shows 928 manually managed songs (2 of 8 GBs still empty).  However, when I click on the music tab immediately to the right of the summary tab, iTunes no longer shows my songs, playlists or audio books.  Instead iTunes invites me to "sync" my iPod and kiss my contents goodbye. Why won't the songs appear in iTunes anymore?  My iPod still plays the songs and they appear on the tiny iPod screen.   iTunes however won't show them. iTunes still allows me to drag and drop new music and books into my iPod but iTunes won't let me see the particulars.  I want to delete some audio books I've finished but iTunes won't let me to them.  What gives?

Thanks iPodmaven for showing me how to check the arrow to the right of the device image and convert it into a inverted triangle.  Problem solved!  Thanks

  • ITunes store pages formatting is one long list

    Hi all,
The iTunes store some how is formated in plain html. Looks weird. The home has big pictures one after the other Then when you scroll down, the Music is a list of album picture and then a bullet list of the album name and the title. Something like the following:
    Music
    See All
    [A picture of the album]
    * Redemption Song (For Haiti Relief) [Live from Oprah] - Single
    * Rihanna
    [A picture of the album]
    * Today Was a Fairytale - Single
    * Taylor Swift
Everything has become a straight long list. My default browser is Chrome, it didn't help if I changed the default browser to firefox and rebooted. Not sure how to post a screen capture of what is happening. Hopefully somehow there are someone experienced this. Not sure if I put in the right keywords for searching, but wasn't able to find related issues.
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alice

Based on the iTunes.exe time stamp it's Oct 28, 2009 8:21PM ET. Funny thing is that the release date I can find on the web is Oct 30, 2009. Is that true?
Sometimes I see October 29 (Wikipedia for example). So when international date lines figure into things, I reckon you might well have got it on the day it was released (depending on where you are based).
So that timeframe looks right ... in the first days of the iTunes 9.0.2.25 installer, it contained an AAS 1.0.1 and a QuickTime 7.6.4. Then the Safari 4.0.4 installer (containing an AAS 1.1.0) came out on about 11 November. For a while I *really was* advocating a Safari 4.0.4 install to fix some other Store problems, because it was the only way to get an AAS 1.1.0 on the PC. (People used to look at me funny.) Then on about ... 18 November? QT 7.6.5 came out, and that version of QuickTime and AAS 1.1.0 got included in the iTunes 9.0.2.25 installer from then on.
My notes are a bit sketchy, but there was a hint that AAS 1.1.0 fixed some iPhone syncing trouble too. (I wasn't working on that much back then, though.)
But the important thing is that your Store is displaying properly again. (I'm glad it wasn't malware either ... my heart sank when that 306 code got mentioned.) Glad to have been of some accidental assistance, Alice!

If they are showing in the Videos app with a cloud then go into Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and set Videos (under the 'Show All') heading 'off' - you might (depending upon which country that you arein) have a similar button for music and the Music app.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option which is revealed in the iTunes app on your iOS device by tapping the more button at the bottom of the screen.
