Music on iPhone 3GS and iPad 2 unusable in iOS5

YOU LOST MY POST! I can't retype all that, I am SO angry
About 20% of my music no longer works, or plays the wrong song on ios5. Always worked before since original iPod and iPhone 3GS on iOS 3. Problem with same songs on both iPhone and iPad. Mostly MP3s but also on some PURCHASES.
FIX IT QUICKLY
If anyone else has lost this IMPORTANT and very BASIC functionality on their device too, please post. If anyone can suggest anything beyond syncing again (taken music off and back on 3 times now, some songs persistently don't work, other songs randomly start failing and then work after either a device restart or syncing again) or converting all these songs to AAC (again, it's not just MP3s that aren't working) - which would mean losing my import dates, play counts, rebuilding playlists and still not being able to guarantee any improvement in the functionality of the devices - please help!
APPLE, PLEASE PUT BACK THE AUDIO CODECS FROM IOS4. Sadly, while Apple products usually stick to the line "it just works", this is the total opposite in iOS5 where "it continues to surprise me just how little works"

If the Apple ID is waiting for verification and you haven't received the email with the verification link, you could try going to https://appleid.apple.com/, click on Manage My Account to the right, sign in, under your primary email address click on "verify now", which should resend the verification email.  This is from Apple:
I didn't receive a verification email (within 48 hours).
Sign in with your Apple ID account and resend the notification. Search all of your mail folders for any emails coming from 'apple.com'.
I didn't receive a verification email (more than 48 hours).
You'll need to restart the registration process. You can reuse the same account information.
