Music on iTunes, but not on iPod; Help Please!

Here is my situation.
I recently purchased an iTunes gift card and purchased and downloaded an album this weekend without a problem. The problem arose when I transfered the album onto my iPod.
I can listen to the album on my computer through iTunes with no problem. I can listen to it on my iPod through my computer no problem. When I try to listen to the album on my iPod by itself, it does not play the album.
The album information is shown on the iPod window but my iPod scrolls through each songtrack after 1 second (without playing any of them). I have never had this problem after downloading any free content via iTunes (e.g., podcasts).
I have already deauthorized/reauthorized my computer; as well as the 5Rs, and neither option resoved the problem.
Does anyone have any experience/advice in dealing with this issue?

well i have to be honest, but i don't know if it the vista you use has any significance for this. but you can try.
    okay follow:
1: click "start" on the status line on the buttom of your screen.
2: then click on "all Programs" and find "Accessories" and find the "command prompt"
3: Right click with your mouse "command prompt" and click on "run as administrator"
(as you has click'd on "run as administrator", "command prompt" should appear.)
4: when it appears you need to type this "netsh windsock reset"
5: wait for your computer to registrer the command you gave it, and restart your computer.
then erverything should be pretty much as good or better then new.

  • I have ipod classic. i do not have enough memeory capacity on my lap top to allow transfer of all my music. can i  transfer my music to ipod without itunes, or transfer to ipod and then delete form itunes BUT NOT my ipod, then trnasfer more?

    HI
I have IPOD classic, and want to transfer all my cd's on to my ipod. I have itunes but my laptop will not support all my music which i want to put on my ipod.
If i transfer music to itunes then sync to ipod - fine - but when i want to delete a cd to enable me to put another one on my laptop (due to memeory)
itunes then deletes it off my ipod.. AGHHHH. how can i get all my music on to my ipod? i cannt seem to get it to sync via windows media. any help?
    please.

You could use Manually Manage your iPod, but the problem with that is that if your iPod ever needs to be Restored, the procedure will delete everything on the iPod and put back on what it can find in your iTunes Library. So you would lose anything not on the laptop. Also, when you buy yourself a replacement iPod, once again, you will lose whatever is not in the your iTunes Library.
Manually Manage means just that. You manually move media onto the iPod. So if you subsequently change anything about a piece of music, such as modifying an incorrectly spelt song title, you would have to remove that song from the iPod, make the change and then put that same (now modified) song back onto your iPod.
Song Play Counts cannot be used when Manually Managing an iPod, because it's the Sync process that updates that information.
An alternative to this, is buy yourself an external hard drive to plug into the laptop. If you buy one large enough to hold all your existing music and possible future purchases, you could then move your iTunes Library and all the Playlists and song counts (using the correct procedure, which exeprienced users on this forum can help you with) to that external drive and continue to use Sync. Then, all the content of your iPod would effectively be backed up.
Using an external drive does mean that you need to have the drive connected and ready to read before starting iTunes - every time. If not, iTunes will fail to find you music and instead look on the internal drive.

  • Music video plays in itunes but not on ipod

    hi
like my subject line states, i transferred a whole bunch of music videos off of dvd into mp4 format using videora.
they play in itunes but not on my ipod.
i transferred about 400 or so at the same time to ipod do you think that's why most of them won't play ?
should i do it one by one ?
    thanks.

it's more than just the mp4 format. They need to be encoded correctly with the right dimensions and other attributes as well. I don't bother with this sort of thing right now. If there is anyone who has these specs, just post them here. Otherwise, you can always google them or search these boards for the proper format/size/encoding.

  • ITunes purchased song plays in iTunes but not on iPod

I have purchased several songs from the music store. One of the songs will play in iTunes but not on my iPod. I've removed the song several times from the iPod and resynced with iTunes, but the song still cuts out in the middle of the song. What should I do?

If it's just a problem with that song, I would contact the customer service who may authorize another download.

  • Problems with artwork displaying in iTunes but not on iPod screen

    I have iTunes (7.6) and a 5th gen, 80GB, firmware 1.2.3 iPod.
Not infrequently, I find that a song's artwork is visible in iTunes, but not on the iPod itself. Sometimes the artwork is displayed simply as a black rectangle on the iPod.
The converse situation also sometimes happens - when album info is retrieved from the CDDB, sometimes album artwork is also retrieved - but this is not displayed in the iTunes software, only on the iPod.
And yes, the "Display album artwork on your iPod" checkbox is selected in iTunes.
Does anyone have any more info about this?
Are there any restrictions on image file formats? Maximum size? Type? Interlaced or not?
Last time I asked this question I got zero response
It is an irritating problem, cos there's no way to check what the artwork looks like on the iPod without disconnecting it from my PC :/

OK to drag this thread back on topic:
I think the "sync" thing is irrelevant anyways.
What I tried in the end was viewing my iPod in iTunes,
navigating through to the check box for "display album artwork",
    UNcheck it, and click apply.
At this point, iTunes said, with NO confirmation "Are you sure?" dialog, "DELETING ARTWORK ON iPOD" !! :-O I was not pleased
However I then re-selected the "display album artwork" box and clicked Apply. The process took about 10 minutes to complete.
When I then disconnected the iPod, the black squares were gone, and the artwork was NOT deleted (phew!) and was displaying correctly. I was pleased
The amount of "other" megabytes on the display in iTunes for my iPod's contents had shrunk.
I dunno what all this actually did - are the artwork files embedded in the MP4 files on the iPod? Or are they stored seperately and linked to them?
I'm wondering if the "black square" thing is caused by an MP4 having an embedded image, and there also being a conflicting image file elsewhere on the hard drive? But this is just guessing.

  • Purchased music in iTunes but not sync'd to iPhone music player

I can log into iTunes, view all my music including purchased music in iTunes, but the music is not sync'd to my iPhone. All other sync'd applications including MS Calendar, Comcast mail account, pictues, etc worked just fine. Why is the music sync feature not working with my new phone??

In order to sync music or videos to our iphone, it has to exist in your Library and not just under the itunes store. If the music does not show up in the library section, click on store at the top of itunes and check for purchases.
If it comes back with a message that all purchases are downloaded, you will need to log into your itunes store account and go to purchase history to report a problem with the particular items purchased.
To log into your itunes store account and view purchase history:
Open the iTunes store and click on your email address in the upper right corner.
Enter your password and choose view account in the window that pops up.
When your account opens you will see a button to view purchase history.
In purchase history you can report a problem for any item purchased.

  • Music appears in iTunes, but not on ipod touch itself

Hi. My son got a new ipod touch about 2 weeks ago. We've set it up to automatically sync a particular folder (so he doesn't have to get ALL the music on our iTunes).
Tonight we added a few songs to his folder in iTunes and synced the ipod. In iTunes, when we click on the ipod icon and check, the songs appear in his folder, so they appear to have been transferred. However, when we eject and look in the ipod itself, the songs do not appear to be there. What makes the weirder is that when we reconnect the ipod to the computer and click on its icon in iTunes, the songs appear to be there after all.
Any thoughts as to what's going on and how to fix it? I have done a hard reset and full restore on the ipod touch; no change. I have not yet atempted to simply manually add each song (that just occurred to me).
    Thoughts?
    Thanks, Paul

Okay, figured out how to get around this. I have restrictions set to "Clean" on the ipod touch. The songs in question are "Clean" versions of, I assume, otherwise explicit songs. However, the restrictions don't seem to recognize that and are blocking them. When I change the restrictions setting on the ipod touch to "Explicit", the songs are accessible on the device.
On the computer itself, I have parental restrictions in place to prevent "explicit" songs from being downloaded, and these "clean" versions passed that bar, but apparently not for the ipod software. What's with this inconsistency? Is this a glitch? To whom should I report it? Isn't part of the point of those sanitized versions that they should be playable on devices with parental restrictions set?

  • Songs visible in iTunes, but not in iPod

    Hi.
I just got an adaptec firewire card for my 3rd generation 20Gb iPod. I have been able to 'load' all my songs into it, so that they show up in iTunes. Yet, after I disconnect it from the computer, the songs are not there.
Some background and things that I found odd along the way and that may give you a clue of what my problem is:
I originally loaded about 30 songs from my home computer using a USB port (I didn't load more because this drains the battery of the iPod and the process stops).
I never got a drive for my iPod when I open "My Computer"
Originally, I only had (my guess) .2 Gb of usage, yet, the bar at the bottom of iTunes indicated something like 20Gb of use, 19.5 Gb free (again, this is a 20Gb iPod). When I loaded the files, the bar moved to approx 25Gb used, 15 Gb free.
At some point I asked for an automatic loading of the playlist, which prompted a message stating that my previous music would be deleted. I had no problem with that, so I clicked okay. Yet, as of now, the only music I do see from the iPod is the one I had before.
Every time I connect the iPod, iTunes spends about 10 minutes with a message "Updating, don't disconnect your iPod". Nevertheless, there is a big checkmark in the iPod stating "OK to disconnect"
Finally, I went to manual loading again. I transferred a single playlist. It took another ten minutes and then I got an "unknown error (-36)".
So, to recap, iTunes says that I have about 5Gb of music and lists all songs (about 1200). iPod only sees the original 30 songs.
Your help will be appreciated. Thanks
    Pedro

Thanks, b noir, for taking a crack at my problem (the original message in the thread). It turns out that the -36 error code was a red herring, and I probably created it by my more convoluted ways of trying to crack the problem.
At any rate, I figured out what my problem was and I decided to post the solution here in case somebody else finds it in the future.
My problem was that songs 'loaded' to the iPod in the sense that there was a folder popping up in iTunes called "Xis' iPod" that listed all the songs I intended to transfer. Yet, after disconnecting, the songs weren't in the iPod.
The problem stemmed from the fact that my computer is networked. My last 'real' drive is drive F. The first network drive is drive G. Apparently (this is my speculation) when I plugged the iPod, the computer assigned the label 'drive G' to both the iPod and the network drive. Thus, iTunes actually created a folder in my network drive called "Xis' iPod" and all the songs were indeed there. That explains the slow loading of songs and the fact that the iPod was ready to disconnect when iTunes was telling me not to do it. Luckily, yesterday I got a new laptop, and when I was using the network drive to transfer files from the desktop to the laptop, I noticed that the network drive had an extra 6Gb of usage. I looked there and, sure enough, the folder was present.
So, to solve the problem, all I did was to remove the computer from the network and reboot. Everything worked well after that (well, the iPod froze upon connecting, but resetting it did the job).
I hope this may help somebody else.

  • Podcasts in itunes but not in ipod

Have recently moved my music to an external drive. When I open itunes now, it shows that my podcasts are there, and I can play them in itunes, but they are not syncing into my ipod, which is blank when I navigate to the podcasts submenu in the ipod itself.
    Wish I understood. Need help!

With your iPod connected, select it in the left-hand side of iTunes and then click the Podcasts tab. Make sure it is set to sync the appropriate podcast episodes.

  • Can't Find CD Music in iTunes But Still On iPod

Not sure this is iPod problem, but occurred after linking iTunes to a library. I first moved my iTune file to secondary drive to free up space & no problems playing back downloaded iTune songs and CD music copied to iTunes. I hooked up my iPod only when booted in the 2nd drive to download from iTunes. Then I moved the iTune folder to an external drive (firewire boot-able) and again no problems playing back any of the music. Again I only connected my iPod when booted in the external drive to download from iTunes. I found out from Apple Discussions how I could press option when opening iTunes to link to a different Library and both download files to play, and load them to my iPod. This way I did not have to reboot from my main drive just so I could download iTune files and/or listen to my music including CD imports that were located on the external drive. So, when I was on my main drive, I linked the iTune app to the library on the external drive and was able to download from iTunes and sync my iPod with no problem BUT!!! Now there is an exclamation point next to every imported CD title in my iTune folder and it says can't find the original file. I booted into the external drive and opened iTunes but the ! is still there etc. The music file is still loaded/playable in my iPod but I can't play it from the computer. So my question is...
WHAT HAPPENED AND HOW DO I FIX IT?

So I put all my music into the iTunes folder (copied it back from my external hard drive) but when I open iTunes, it doesn't "find" it.
If you didn't back up or restore the iTunes database files, you also need to drag the music into the open iTunes application window.
What are the chances that Apple will let me redownload all of her purchases?
And last question, I know that they only let you copy your music onto "5" computers.
For most purposes, that doesn't apply to recent song purchases.
