Music on old computer

Help, i have some folders on another computer what is the best way to transfer them to this computer

Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your new computer is to network it with the old one and copy your iTunes folder across. This works fine if you have been using iTunes to completely manage your music and all your songs are in iTunes Music not in different folders. You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the old computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the new computer. If the songs in your library are not all in the iTunes Music folder you can consolidate them. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\. Everything has to be exactly the same on the new computer including the Windows user account name. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
Your iPod can also be used as an external drive and if there's enough room on it you can use it to copy the iTunes folder: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

OK, well, seems like you need to lose the attitude if you really want help.
There are several ways to get music from iTunes on your computer to your device.
The easiest is to sync directly with iTunes by connecting your device to your computer, selecting the device, setting up your Profile pages, and then clicking the Sync button to sync.
First you want to open iTunes and under Preferences>Devices, make sure that you are not syncing automatically:
Make sure that box is checked.
Then follow the instructions in the article below for either your computer or your Mac to set up your Profile pages and to sync your music via iTunes:
    WINDOWS IOS SYNC ITUNES 11
iTunes 11 for Mac: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
You can also directly download music from iTunes to your device by going to the iTunes icon, going to "Purchased", and selecting the items that are not on your device that show a little cloud next to them. Click on the cloud and the music will download.
You might also want to familiarize yourself with your iPhone 5 manual. It has all the answers you cannot find on Google or by trying to just do it by brute force. If you would take a little time to read about your device and how to use it, you might not be so frustruated and unnecessarily snarky to people who are trying to help:

  • New computer,  want keep ipod music from old computer to new?

new computer,  want keep ipod music from old computer to new?

    Hi mtscott41,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you have music on an iPod from your old computer. You now have a new computer but do not want to have the music from the iPod erased when you sync to the new computer. If the music on your iPod was purchased from iTunes you can either transfer those purchases from the iPod to your new computer’s iTunes Library or you can download the previously purchased content directly to your iTunes Library from iTunes. Please use the following article as reference for transferring purchases.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
The following article will show you how to download all of your previous purchases directly to iTunes if you would like to proceed this way.

If the music on your iPod was not purchased from iTunes and you still have the old computer, you may want to use a process called Home Sharing to transfer that content to your new computer. The following article explains Home Sharing.

    I hope this helps,

I am having problems with my music collection, after burning all of my music to the computer I organized it into folders and placed it in the iTunes Folder. As of now i realize this was a mistake. Starting on a new computer now. I cant get my music to transfer from the itunes folder on the old computer? I keep getting error "Can't Read from the source file or disk." Whenever I got to folder properties its always checked read only. But when i play the song it works just fine. Im sure this is just because I added music into itunes folder but is there anyway to fix it?

WMA files are 'window media audio' files, which is a Microsoft format. If you want to add them to your iTunes library on your Mac then you will need to convert them into a compatible format first. If you still have your windows machine then iTunes for Windows can convert them from WMA to MP3 format : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24158701#24158701
Or try a search for, for example, 'convert wma to mp3' to find programs to convert them.

  • Moving music from old computer to new computer

I recently purchased my MacBook Pro and I am trying to move all of my music from my old computer to this one. You might think that simply copying the songs to an iPod (as files, not music that can be listened to) and trasferring them to the desired computer would solve my problem. However, this has proved unsucessful so far. I am trying to avoid importing all of my backup CDs because the album artwork would be lost. Is there a way to hook my two computers up via FireWire or something else? The computer I want to transfer music from is an iMac - one of the new flat panels but without the built in iSight so it has FireWire ports. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

If your iPod is large enough, you can transfer the library without loosing anything (ratings, play counts etc.) using these instructions:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer.
Another method is to connect your computers by Ethernet or Firewire.
Using the latter method, put the source computer in Firewire target disk mode. The MacBook will see the iMac as an external HD.
You can then copy all your music to the MacBook.
If your MacBook has the same file structure (folder mapping and username) of the iMac, copy the entire iTunes folder (including iTunes Music folder and the library files) to the same location on your MacBook. iTunes will recognize the library and find all songs.
    Hope this helps.

  • Transferring music from old computer to new

I lost all of my music while trying to sync my Ipod touch to my new computer. However, I still have my Itunes library on my old computer, which is on its last leg. This includes many songs copied from CD's, which would take hours to duplicate. Is there any way of copying the Itunes library other than with a USB device as the USB ports don't seem to be working? It doesn't seem to be recognizing the ethernet cable either, so CD?

    - You can burn to CD and then import from that CD on the new computer.
    - You could also take the HD out of the computer and place it in an external enclosure that has a USB connection and then connect to the your computer and import.

  • Transferring music from old computer using ipod

I recently transferred music from my old computer to my new computer using my ipod by following the directions in apple support (article 300173.) I already had music in itunes on my new computer when I added the music from my old computer. Now all the music that I had loaded prior to the transfer comes up with a message "original file could not be found." Have I lost this music for good?
    MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If you dragged the file called 'iTunes' in to the music folder in the finder and it asked 'do you wish to overite' then it has probably overwritten the folder tha t already existed
    (with the new music in).
If you haven't emptied you trash it might be in there, but don't click retore the trash just drag the folder onto the desktop.
    Hope this helps.

  • When I first opened my ITunes acct, I had a different computer. How do I get the music from old computer to sync w/ music on new computer?

    Any help is greatly appreciated

Do you mean that you want to copy the music from your old computer over to your new one ? If you do then there are some methods described on this page for how to do it : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
If you want to copy the music back from your iPod then File > Devices > Transfer Purchases should copy your iTunes purchased music back from it. For music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) you will need a third-party program on your computer to copy it back from the iPod - there are some programs listed half-way down this page : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • How to transfer itunes music from old computer to new computer

I am sure someone has asked this question before but darned if I can find it anywhere...I have a new computer and want to transfer my music (which was loaded from CDs) from my old computer to my new one. I also want to keep my playlists that I spent time setting up. But when I plug my ipod touch into my new computer it simply asks me if I want to wipe all the music on it and replace it with what is in itunes on the new computer ie. nothing.
    Help!

Quit iTunes and click over to your My Documents folder. Inside this folder, go to My Music. Inside My Music is your iTunes music folder. Now, copy this to a flash drive (if its big enough), an external hard drive, online using backup services like Mozy, or burned onto a CD-R or a DVD. You can even enable Disk Use on your iPod and move it there.
After you copy the iTunes library, disconnect whatever you used and take it to your new computer.

how to transfer music from itunes on old computer to new lap top w/ installed itunes

On a Mac there is an application in the Utilities folder called Migration Assistant. Running this application on both Macs and connecting your old and new macs together will allow you to transfer all files you might want from the old Mac to the new one. It's pretty easy to do and the application is pretty easy to understand and follow the instructions.
Not sure hw you might do this on a PC.
