Music 'only' deleted when connecting my ipod 2g.

I connected my ipod nano to computer and I got an error message stating 'my ipod could not be synced. A duplicate file name was specified.' I hit 'ok' but the music has been deleted. My computer also said it was needing to check the ipod for errors and it is currently running a scan on it.
My Nike info is still there and the bottom of the summary page shows 3.6gb OTHER which I think was the same amount of gb that was taken up by the music.
I do not auto sync to the computer I use nowadays.
I no longer have access to the original computer when I got this ipod so I cannot just transfer my library back onto the ipod.
Any ideas how I can get my music back??

My iPod will only charge when connected to the Mac. It will not charge on any other cable or docking station. And, yes, I have tested the various cables and docking stations with other devices and the issue is clearly only with this one device. I am note sure what generation the device is, but it is old enough that it cannot run iOS 7. It is on iOS 6.1.5.

Apologies if this has been asked and answered before, I couldn't seem to find anything relating to my particular problem.
On occassions when connecting my iPod to my PC at work I find that the PC powers down completely, without going through any shutdown procedure. I then have to switch off the mains supply, listen for what sounds like a slight discharge, switch on the mains supply and power up my PC. If the iPod is already cabled up there's no problem with powering up. This doesn't happen everytime I connect, just intermitently, but it's annoying as I don't have any problems with anything else in the USB ports I'm using. I've also tried different USB ports on the machine, and it doesn't seem to make any difference. The PSU for the PC is 380W, so that shouldn't be the problem.
Fortunately the iPod doesn't get chance to go into 'Do Not Disconnect' mode, so I've never lost any of my content. But it's still annoying!
Can anyone suggest what's causing this?

Yes, the list on my computer of what is in my iPod library is grey, not black font. I tried "manual" but it will not allow me to drag anything to the iPod. Not even newly purchased music.
That certainly sounds like one of the Automatic syncing options has been engaged.
... quickly doublechecking, just in case. After selecting "Manually manage ..." in the device tab for the iPod in iTunes, did you click "Apply"?

I had this problem too - of grayed out music I could only play when in WIFI. I noticed when looking in iTunes, these grayed song were not chosen by me to sync on to my iPhone. They were stored in iCloud. I went to Settings > Music and then turned off "Show All Music" so only music that has been dowloaded to my iPhone will be shown.
I don't have iTunes Match, so you may have a different issue than what I had.

When you connect the device open iTunes and select it from the sidebar. Click on the Summary tab in the main window. Uncheck the option to automatically connect to iTunes. You will find it in the collection of options near the lower part of the window.

Sending contents to windows authenticated service results in an error - "Content option is only supported when connecting anonymously."

Error results when trying to send JSON content to a service which is internally hosted and requires windows authentication.

In our case, the users are internal and so is the service which accepts the content. Once the user is authenticated by the windows account, it reasonable to allow content.
Would it not be better anyway to have the restriction for anonymous access as opposed to this case where the account is already authenticated on an internal windows domain ?

When I'm playing songs with iTunes and connecting my 3G 20GB iPod, my computer will hang up completely - screen goes dark and I have to reset my PC.
However, when my iTunes is "idle", i.e. not playing a song or doing anything else, connecting and syncing the iPod will work just fine.
I'm using the newest (6.x) Version of iTunes on WinXP SP2 with a 3G iPod 20GB.

All I can suggest are the standard fixes:
- Reset the car system/contact the manufacturer
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Reset all settings

IPod Classic 160GB - Lost Of Music & Video Files When Connected To iTunes

I currently have the latest model of the Apple iPod Classic. It's been working great until I decided to connect it to my laptop, to use iTunes. I've done this so many times before without having any problems. Until recently that is.
My laptop and iTunes are able to read my iPod, but when it shows up on iTunes the music and video section disappears. Only 'Other' and 'Free' shows on the ipod's GB stats, with only 148 GB left to use. Before this happened, I had only 110 GB or so to use, maybe even less, since I had tons of music and video files stored. Also downloaded games, which also disappeared.
I thought iTunes was the problem, but when I disconnected my iPod, I searched through it manually, and found that all of music, videos, and games are gone, it's like I didn't put anything in it. The only thing that stayed, was the notes, other than that everything vanished. Is there a way to retrieve my old music, video, and game files back? I tried looking into the hidden files of the ipod itself, and went into 'ipod_control' then to music, but every single folder was empty, all 'F' folders.
I am deeply frustrated about this. I really hope there are solutions out there to help me, without having to re do everything.
Forgot to add, don't know if this will help but, when I connected the iPod to iTunes, there was a pop up message saying something like 'CheeziPuffs cannot be found or played on your iPod' I have never had this pop up message before when the ipod worked perfectly on iTunes.

I am having the same problem. Sometimes I get an error code and sometimes I don't. I tried to get apple to do something about it however mine is also out of warranty so no luck. I have read about a lot a people having syncing issues like this with their ipod classic and I am kind of amazed that apple is not willing to fix this issue. If I get it fixed or have any luck with apple I will post here. Good Luck.

Itunes messes with my libraries and songs when connected with ipod.

On my itunes when i move songs around to other libraires and such it wont add them to the library when it downloads to the ipod. When i make my libraires on the ipod and i connect my ipod to itunes it deletes everything i have made on the ipod and reverts back to the libraries on itunes. Basically if i want my ipod libraries set up the way i want i cant connect my ipod to itunes anymore. I also have a problem with itunes not being able to locate music files in my library folders after i move a few songs around or add mor songs or whatever. How do i get my itunes to leave the libraires the way i make them and not keep songs from transfering over to the ipod. Its actually ******* me off. its not that the songs arnt playable they just keep getting removed on their own. how can i set up my music files in a folder where itunes will resort to and not have any problems locating the files.

For anyone who hits this thread: Hit view, then "hide music in the cloud." Your libraries will return to how you have built them.
Kelly, your music is still probably on your hard drive. The iCloud is just a cute techy way of saying that you have online access to things you've purchased from apple... just wait until they make it so that you ONLY have online access to your purchases, and nothing ever comes "off" the cloud for you to tangibly own.
Folks, this is a smoke and mirrors gimmick to make you buy-in to the itunes store. Let Apple manage, deliver, and DECIDE all the content that you will see. It's at least one degree more insiduous than corporate radio.
Kudos on the crisp interface and larger album cover displays, but...
Apple cannot find cover art for 1/3 of the library that I have built. That is because Apple does not carry that music. Apple will never host music from ancient vinyl that I have remastered, Apple will never host the shows of obscure electronica djs or the local bluegrass bands that put out EPs in the western US in the 80s. If you restrict your music experience to a single venue, you are not only missing out, but you are supporting an economic model which quashes music that does "not meet industry standards." Have fun with iTunes 11 kids.
