Music output from chg port vs headphone jack

Is there any diff in the quality of the sound if you connect to your car's AUX input from the bottom/charge port vs connecting from the headphone jack? I have cords for both and have read conflicting opinions.
I've tried both and I can't tell much difference. Is there any reason not to use the bottom/charge connection other than not being able to charge while listening?

In some laptops, there is a difference. For example, the headphone port might compress the sound, whilst the line out doesn't. Also, the voltages and/or impedances might be different, as they are intended to drive different sources. So you might notice a change in sound quality if the headphone port has some sort of compression applied. Or you might notice that the volume is lower using the line out. This is pure speculation as I haven't tried using the iPhone line out, and don't know what if any compression is applied to the iPhone headphone out. I'd be interested in your experiences if you'd like to report back once you've tried it?
Cheers.

  • No sound from audio speaker or headphone jack

Hello all i bought a HP Probook 4535s from a friend and im not getting any sound from the speakers or headphone jacks. I have flashed the BIOS to the F.41 and this didin't fix the problem. I also deactivated speakers in the BIO settings and re enabled them and this still didn't fix the job. I also replaced the speakers themselfs. Any ideas would be appriciated Thanks

    Hi @cblake118 ,
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure, I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums, since this is a commercial product. You can click here for the link.

  • TS4113 Is there a terminal or other type of workaround to allow sound to come from the HDMI and headphone jack at the same time?

I have a late 2012 Mini, running 10.8.2.  I have a set of powered speakers plugged into the headphone jack.  My TV is running on a direct HDMI connection.  I can only stream sound through HDMI, or even select it as an output, if I unplug my headphone speaker plug.  Apple's knowlege base says this is the case.  I am looking for a way to have both plugged in all the time, and have the sound mirrored to both.
I use the speakers for itunes music, system sounds, skype, etc..  The HDMI sound is for steaming content to the TV.  I don't want to have to reach around behind the computer and unplug/plug each time I switch, for a multitude of reasons.  Any ideas out there?  Google wasn't getting me very far.  Maybe a terminal solution of some sort?  Thanks in advance.

it seems that m1r3k found a very good workaround, at least for the Mid 2010 Mac mini models (that I'm using right now). I don't know if it works also with more recent Mac mini models.
Re: After upgrading to lion, cant select HDMI sound setting
Open Audio MIDI Setup.app in /Applications/Utility, click the + (plus) button in the bottom left corner of the window and choose "Create Multi-Output Device". In the new device settings tick the HDMI "Use" checkbox and you're done. Simply go to the usual System Preferences Audio panel and choose the newly created device, without the need to unplug the audio cable from the back of the Mac mini. You can also name the new audio device as you want.
    NOTE:
This is only a workaround for a deliberate choice made by Apple on OS X Lion 10.7.2 and beyond:
Mac mini: About HDMI audio and headphones
Please let Apple know (here or here) how this has made things unnecessary awkward for users and needs to be fixed (these forums don't count, they are not read by Apple's employees)!

  • No sound output from dock connector or headphones but speaker is fine

    I've got a 3GS which I've had since October.
Recently, there has been no sound output from the headphone socket - or rather, what does come out is very strange, sounding almost electronically distorted.
I thought that maybe the headphone jack was broken, but now I've found out that the same thing can be heard through a dock when the iPod is connected this way.
I'm fairly sure the dock connector is still fine as the phone charges and can be controlled by the dock etc
Most of the discussions I've found relate to sound not coming from the speaker on the phone, but this is absolutely fine.
    Any ideas?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried resetting the PMU?
I'm not optimistic that this will help any more than the procedures you've already tried, but it won't hurt to try.
Do you still have your OS 9 installation? If so, try booting into OS 9 and see if the problems with the audio are happening there, too. If so, you can bet it's a hardware problem.
How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If you don't have your OS 9 installation in order to check out whether it's a hardware problem and you have enough available hard drive space, you may want to try an Archive and Install of the OS in order to make sure it isn't an OS X system-wide problem. If that doesn't do it, you could back up your hard drive and restore your software.
All of this may just be spinning your wheels, but it's all stuff you can try before shelling out a lot of money for repairs.

  • Audio output through speakers but not headphone jack

I have an HP Envy 15-J178ca. I am unable to play audio from my headphone jack, but audio plays on my speakers. When I plug in my headphones, the speakers stop outputting audio but no audio plays through the headphone output. I have tried multiple headphones which all work on different devices and was unsuccessful at outputting audio. I have updated my audio driver to the latest version using the HP drivers site. The following is a screenshot of the sound devices on my computer.

I have the same exact problem, may some one help us

  • No sound, stuck on digital audio output, red LED only sometimes, headphone jack doesn't "grab" male end

Borrowing my boyfriend's computer after my own Macbook died, he had given up on the audio on his Macbook Pro as a logic board issue but I think it might be fixable.
System prefs for audio is stuck on digital output. The red LED from the headphone jack only shines sometimes (rarely, actually, but the digital output/no sound persists). No appearance of dust in the jack. What concerns me most is that the headphone male end doesn't "sit right" in the jack: rather than plugging in securely, it pops right back out.
I have a hunch this is similar to that little switch problem a lot of people deal with in the headphone jack, but the fact that the headphones won't plug in seems different. I've tried pulling the jack in and out and wiggling--no sound change, but the LED turns off and on sometimes. Any other ideas? Thank you all.

Possibly create a new user profile to test if it is a software issue. If it still has problems once tested on another profile it is most likely a hardware fault, and the only option is to take it to Apple. Honestly though it sounds more hardware related due to the power outage impacting it's performance instead of a program. Good luck buddy.

  • Can the output from ADC port power a HDTV

This is part of my other post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2222857&tstart=0
*I've been told that the output from an ADC port is not sufficient to power a HDTV.*
I have my ADC port connected by a ADC/DVI adaptor cable to a HDMI port on my HDTV.
    Is this correct?
    Can anyone confirm it?

  • My ipod cassic no longer out puts sound from either usb port or headphone jack.

I have done a full reset. Other than that it works fine. Plays movies plays songs just no sound.

    Hi ,
After checking the HP Driver and Download page, as you said your product does not support Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. Since you have already tried the drivers directly from the manufacturer of the audio card. The only options that you do have are to restore your computer back to Windows 7 when it was working, leaving the computer the way that is, or purchasing the usb audio driver.
    Regards.

  • Noise on music output from OS9 Powerbook G3

I have a Powerbook G3 laptop and hate throwing working Macs away!!!!
Having replaced OS8 with OS 9.1 (OS (9.2 wouldn't install), I installed iTunes 2.0.4, I know it said it had to be a Mac with a USB, but I persevered...
Both were successful, and work very well 'internally', and the mini stereo jack output to a Marshall PA amp works, but with an unacceptable level of 'noise'.
I was going to give up, but checked a CD in AppleCD Audio Player, and the 'noise' was identical, so I concluded it's a general, not iTunes specific problem.
Has anyone come across this problem and solved it. I'm short of cash, but full of imagination...
    pmjps!

    Thanks Don,
I found an unused and still sealed gold plated stereo minijack to phono connector among the many things that I have never thrown away. My Marshall has a phono input on the aux channel. That reduced the 'noise' considerably!!! I changed the mains cable on the Marshall for a brand new one, and with a lot of wiggling in it's socket on the back of the Marshall.... Hey Presto... almost no noise at all. Very acceptable! So thank you very, very much.
    Next problem-ette...
Can I import an MP3 (a paid for and downloaded musicians backing track) into Garage Band? I want to extend the song by cutting a verse and solo from the middle and adding it in to allow for a further verse and solo to lengthen the song? I have GarageBand version 3.0.5 (104.10) running on Mac OS10.5.8, but I can do stuff on more powefull macs if necessary.
Next, I want to add a har I have SM58 microphone, and a Berringer mixer, but I don't know how to connect it to the Mac, if it's possible even...
Finally, for now, can I then save and export what I've done as an MP3 and play it with iTunes again on the G3?
Sorry to be so 'demanding', but maybe you or your colleagues know some of the answers...

  • Cleaning Lint/Dust/Dirt From the Docking Port, Headphone Jack, Mic & Spkr

Does anyone know if you spray canned air (Dust Off) into the docking port, headphone jack, mic & speaker ports, if the air will blow the lint/dust/dirt deep into the phone or possibly under the screen where you can't get it back out?

i just use a toothpick and dig it out. the dock port and headphone jack are fairly closed off so the chance of pushing the lint / gunk in deeper is pretty low. so far no issues

  • Car use:  dock output vs. headphone jack

I use my iPod extensively in my car - - through a cassette adapter, with sound from the headphone jack.
Am considering purchasing the Belkin Auto Kit for iPod w/ Dock Connector (dual charger plus sound from the dock port area). Would doing this - - and getting sound from the 'bottom' of the iPod - - provide significantly better sound than from the headphone jack?
    Thanks.

so i have my ipod plugged into the back (aux) portion of my deck, this cord feeds though and i plug my in my ipod through the headphone jack (only distortion comes at very high volumes). i have it set up this way so that i can use the ipod itself to select a song. now for the question: do they make a product that allows me to plug my ipod into my deck but use the conection at the bottom of the ipod and still use the ipod to select the music (thus getting charged while playing music without the use of the headphone jack)?
I hope this wasnt to jumbled.
(i had an actual ipod adapter and although the quality is good, attempting to actual select the specific song you want to hear is the biggest pain in the butt EVER, mainly b/c you must use your eck to select the song, the only way to listen to it is on a playlist, otherwise you might crash)
    thanks

  • K7N2G-L no cd audio from headphone jack

Can someone please help me I have a K7N2G-L motherboard and I cant get it to play music cds through the cd roms headphone jack. When I play a music cd it plays through the external speakers but does not play in the cd roms headphone jack. This is a motherboard problem because when I replace the onboard sound with a separate sound card it plays like this. I would like to use the onboard sound any suggestions ive tried.
-swapping the cd rom the cd data and cd audio cables (they are in the right way)
-updated the audio drivers to nvida latest
    -upgrading the bios
-gone through all the windows xp audio controls.
The only thing I can think of to do next is to rebuild the system as 98 to rule out a any possible software cause

if you use xp music cd are played by drawing the sound from the ide cable and not the sound cable.
    its digital and analog playback.
what you need is analog playback
somewhere in window is a box you need to tick.
i dont know right now where it is but if i find it i will post it

  • Headphone jack? from laptop to amplifier

    Hi,
Wondering if there is a better way. I have a 1/4" cord w/ a mini adapter going from my G4 laptop (headphone jack) to a big ol' mono Peavey Amp. This is how I'm hearing back stuff on Logic. Hopefully I'll get a real stereo setup - but this is it for now.
Is this right? Or should I have some small box/gizmo...
    Thanks for thoughts...

You're probably only hearing only one channel (either L or R) when you probably want to be hearing a mono sum. You could either solder up a custom cable and short the tip and ring together, or just make Logic's output mono -- that way it will send the same signal to both L and R.
I'd think headphones would be preferable to the setup you described...
