Music played in itunes skips

When I try to play music in Itunes the music skips and then picks up and skips again at about 1/2 second intervals. I think I need to deinstall Itunes and then reinstall but will this delete my library?

I need an answer, also. Played with the equalizer and now all songs play back with static and distortion. What to do?

Have you selected manually manage music?

  • HT203167 I've downloaded the Now Christmas album, all but 1 song has been downloaded and put in my library.  The list says it's there but when I go to play it, iTunes skips past it and goes to the next song.  I have downloaded lastest version of iTunes.

I have purchased and downloaded the Now Christmas album to my iTunes libary and all but 1 song have been purchased.  The song appears in my library but when I go to play it iTunes skips past it and goes to the next song.  It wouldn't normally bother me but its the only song my son wants to hear all the time (hopefully the heart strings will be pulled here and someone will reply before Christmas to help me!)  I've loaded the last verison of iTunes.

Will the media file play with Quicktime Player? If it will then it's an iTunes issue. If it won't then you need to delete the file and download it a second time.

  • Music plays in iTunes, but not on iPod

Bought an iPod Classic 120GB recently.  Roughly half of my music will play on the iPod, but all of it plays on my PC.  I have resynced multiple times and actually traded it in through the Apple store thinking that might be a quick fix.  Still the problem persists.  For example, some songs on an album will play, while others will be skipped.  All are encoded the same way, V0.  When I convert into another bitrate, the problem goes away, but I'm not going to be doing that to my entire music library.  The iPod classic does advertise being able to play variable bitrate encoding, so I'm wondering if there is any fix for this problem.

Usually unchecking the song(s) in iTUnes, updating the ipod, then checking the songs and updating the ipod again will fix the problem.
If not restoring it with the latest ipod updater (06-28-2006) should fix it. Restoring wipes the ipod clean and then you use iTUnes to load it back up with your music

  • Music plays in iTunes, but NONE of the MP3 files are visible in Explorer

This one is a bit of a mystery.
When I open up any of the folders in my iTunes Music folder, they appear to be empty. No MP3 files are listed at all. Yet, iTunes can still play the music.
    Here are the details:
    1. I keep my iTunes media content on an external hard drive, and iTunes is working fine. Some albums have disappeared but most of my music shows up in iTunes and plays properly. Therefore, the music files have to be there.
    2. When I right-click on my iTunes folder in Windows Explorer and choose "properties" I get a result: Explorer scans the folder and tells me I have 98.8 gigabytes in 18,279 files, (though when I look around, I see that a LOT of albums are missing). Yet, Windows Explorer is finding a lot of files even though I can’t see them.
    3. However, when I right-click on a folder inside my iTunes folder and choose “properties” (the folders for each artist and for each album are still there and still visible) I get weird results. It says that there is some small amount of data in each folder (27 kilobytes or 35 kilobytes) and some random number of files (2, or 5, or 6). It doesn't matter how many songs are actually on that album, it just gives me this small unrelated number. Yet, I can’t see any files listed at all.
    4. Under the View tab in Folder Options, everything looks fine to me. I don’t see a setting there that would hide MP3 files.
    5. I tried checking “show hidden files” and all that sort of thing, but nothing changed.
    6. I did a virus scan and it revealed no threats.
    7. I also went into the Command Prompt and used the dir command to see what was there. I could see all of my folders including my iTunes music folder. I have pictures, Word documents, Excel files, etc on this external folder as well. I can see all of these files no problem. I can also see all the Artist and Album folders in my iTunes music folder. However, even using the dir command, I can’t see any songs – there are no MP3 files visible. I reveal hidden and system files (dir /ah), I then see some files like these:
    desktop.ini
    AlbumArtSmall.jpg
    Folder.jpg
    8. I tried to play the music from VLC media player and Windows Media Player, but that doesn’t work because the files can’t be seen by those programs either.
    9. However, when I open iTunes, all the music is there and playable. Only iTunes sees the music.
Anyone have any idea what could have happened? The one thing I changed recently is that I ran the iTunes Genius function. It scanned my music and did what it was supposed to do, and it worked fine. I doubt that Genius could have done this to my external hard drive. I’m guessing I picked up a computer virus somehow, but my virus scan doesn’t reveal anything.
Anyone have any ideas about what is going on?
    Thanks!
    Doug

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!
You were absolutely right, Rob. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I've got nearly 200 Artist folders with 1,000 or so Album folders - and they are all completely empty of music.
But in the middle of that long list of folders, there is an innocuous looking folder labelled "Music." I looked inside that folder and, bam, there they were - all 92 gigabytes of my missing music files in a complete copy of all those Artist and Album folders.
I thought I was going crazy! How could iTunes be playing all this music when as far as I could tell, it had all vanished? But there it was. As you said, iTunes had simply moved it down a level in the folder hierarchy and then didn't delete all the original folders.
And as I scanned the original list of Artist folders, I also saw the other folders: Podcasts, Audiobooks, iPod Games, etc. I hadn't even noticed them before. I just assumed that all the folders I was looking at were Artist folders.
Thank you so much, Rob. I'm not sure I would have ever solved this "case of the missing music files" on my own. I would have continued to bang my head against "hidden files" settings and all that. Perhaps I would have tracked these files down by looking for their location using "Get Info" in iTunes. But maybe not. I had no reason to suspect that I didn't know where the music files were: after all, the Artist and Album folders were all right there. They were just empty! I was so focused on the folders being empty, it never occured to me that iTunes had created exact duplicate folders somewhere else.
Do you know if iTunes had any practical reason for leaving all those empty folders behind? I'm just wondering if it is safe to manually delete them. I noticed, for example, that they aren't completely empty. They contain hidden files of Album Art and various ini files. I wouldn't want to delete them and then find out that I just deleted all my album art and a bunch of important settings files.
Thanks again. You saved my neck with this one.

  • "Some of the items in the Itunes library were not copied to the [device] because they could not be found" but music play on itunes

    Morning,
i got 5.6Go of music but not on the C drive, i've done a redirection to My Music Folder to "I:\My Music" instead of the default location
I can't put in on the default location i don't have enough space on my SSD.
I can play all the music i want on Itunes, when i wanna sync my iphone (the old and the new) i got this error.
It's never on the same song and a few are copied on the Iphone
I've tried re-create the itunes library, restaure the iphone from a previous backup or erase all the setting and data.
I've tried using WIFI or a different cable.
    I've looked in C:\Users\momo\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs
    but didn't found any clues.
I think it might be because the disk is not reading fast enough (that's why it doesn't always stop on the same song but it's only a guess).
I'm having this issue for more than a year but now that i have a new iphone i know the issue does not come fro the iphone.
Can you give me an advice ?
Or just an itunes with a debug mode to know exactly what is wrong.
My Itunes version is 12.1.1.4 (i've tried some older version and i still have the same issue)
My last Iphone version is 8.1.2 it's an Iphone 5
The old was an Iphone 4 on IOS 5.0.1
I work in the IT so i can do some technical things.
Apologies if i don't reply quickly
    Thanks

I kept having a similar problem - 3 out of the 10 videos I had on iTunes wouldn't sync. They were in the right format and I KNEW they worked on my iPod because I'd RECORDED them on my iPod. I finally figured out what to do! Go to the movies in your iTunes library. Click on one that does not sync. Click on "Advanced" at the top of iTunes and choose "Create iPod or iPhone version". Once that's finished, be sure you delete the old version so you don't keep getting the error (or have 2 copies of the same video) and sync. This should eliminate the problem. At least it did for me!

  • Purchased music plays in iTunes but not Apple applications

My issue is not as dire as most here but still....
Recently, my purchased music became unavailable to
all Apple applications (iPhoto, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Quicktime, etc) except
iTunes. If I try to play one, "This computer is not authorized to play this
song" message appears. Never did before. After following the
"open iTunes to reauthorize this computer" instruction it reports
authorization was successful. However, the songs are still unavailable
to Apple apps. and the "not authorized" message keeps popping up.
And they all play fine in iTunes. Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.

  • Music played in iTunes crackles

  • Music plays in iTunes, but Finder doesn't show them

Okay this is wierd and I don't know if it belongs to iTunes or to HFS+.
When I start iTunes, I can see my whole library of about 50'000 songs. In the finder, at the same time, I see maybe 30 or 40 artists, way less than I have songs. Now, say, for example, in iTunes, I see "a-ha" as artist. In the finder windows that shows the directory where my music is, I don't see a-ha. Now, if I do a Get Info on a song of a-ha, suddenly, a-ha appears in the Finder. With exactly this album and exactly this song. If I Get Info of another song, that one appears too. Funny enough, with the correct creation dates and everything, as if that song always there and from there after, it is there. But not before. I do a daily backup to another disk (just copying, no mirroring), funny enough, that other disk behaves exactly the same: it doesn't show my music anymore.
If I open a terminal console, its the same: I don't see anything anymore there, but the according to Disk Utility, the amount of items on that disk is about correct. Does anyone have a clue what's happening here? I already verified both disks, no errors. They are attached using USB and each is part of a single 3TB concantenated RAID.

Sounds to me like you might have disk directory problems. Try using disk utility to repair the disk (use repair instead of verify - just in case). If not, you might want to buy and try diskwarrior.
Have you tried rebooting? If not, try that first.
Also, try "right clicking" (or control-clicking) on a song, and select show in finder from the drop down menu - is the file where you think it should be?

    Hi SDucky.!
I have an article here that should be able to help you troubleshoot this issue. The article is about finding lost media in iTunes and can be found here:

  • TS3540 I moved my itunes music to an external hard drive. My music plays in itunes on my apple com, all of my playlists are in tact. I cannot get my ipod touch or iphone to show up in my itunes. If I delete follow the directions above, will my playlists s

I cannot sync my ipod touch, nor my iphone to my itunes anymore. I would  like to go through all of the steps troubleshooting listed in this article, but will I lose my playlists?

Your playlists are contained in your library.itl files in your user area iTunes folder, or on the external drive if you keep your whole iTunes folder there.  The steps outlined in that article will leave that unaffected.  Still, it is always a good idea to make a complete bootable clone backup of your computer before undertaking the type of procedures that article suggests, just in case you delete the wrong thing.

  • Music scratchy in iTunes

So last night out of nowhere music played through itunes sounded extremely scratchy on my computes. I do not encounted this problem with windows media so my guess its a problem with itunes. My equalizer is set to flat (which is default), as it has always been, but for some reason it sounds terrible now even on the lowest of volumes...
I just upgraded and still have the same problem...anyone have any ideas that could help me out and fix this? thanks

A click on the screenshot will enlarge it.
Yes the are not in English but the preferences will look the same in English. Buttons and sliders are on the exact same place.
    Go to:
System Settings -> Sound -> Volume
On the Speakers pane click Advanced
On the upcoming new pane you will find two tabs
Screenshot 1 show the situation on the first tab. On there choose your speaker setup
Screenshot 2 show the situation on the 2nd tab. On there "Hardware Acceleration" is the point to fiddle with.

  • IPod touch won't play ANY music, only skips. All music plays when FROM ipod when plugged into iTunes. No, songs are not corrupt, I was playing an album through iTunes from my iPod and for no reason iTunes froze and now I'm having issues with my iPod.

So I was playing an album from my iPod through iTunes like normal, and the album ended. I switched to iTunes view to change to a new one and it said "iPod is done syncing" (I did not choose to sync, nor did anything appear different). I tried to click on a song to play and iTunes froze. I had to restart iTunes and when I ejected my iPod (properly) the syncing sign was still turning on my iPod. As of now my iPod only skips through every song I try to play, but when I plug it into iTunes every song FROM my iPod plays perfectly.
No, I do not want to "factory reset" my iPod. No I do not wish to do anything crazy long or hard to fix this. Everything was working fine before when it decided to do this with very little effort, therefore I would like it fixed with very little effort.
I have tried resycing my iPod multiple times (every time I eject it from iTunes it appears to do so properly [iPod icon goes away] but the syncing icon still appears on my iPod).
I have almost 58 GB of music on my iPod so I'm not interested in starting from scratch. Also a good portion of my music is on a computer I don't have access to anymore so that's out of the question. Since the music seems to be uncorrupted (still plays from iPod in iTunes) I want a way to fix this iPod issue without having to erase anything.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

That may be necessary, It is not what you want to do/not do but what is required to resolve your problem.
