Music Player Blues (Bugs + Missing Features)

I've discovered three potential bugs with the music player.
The first is very minor, but would be nice to have fixed: in a playlist, I find that often when one song has an album art but the next in the playlist does not, the player often does not update the album art that is being displayed (that is, it shows the previous song's album art rather than the generic background).
The second problem has caused me much grief - every now and then one of my playlists on the device will get wiped out. It's happened twice now, both with the same playlist. Both times the playlist had 200-300 songs in it.
Third, sometimes the ability to control the music player with the mute button goes away. I've noticed this occurs most commonly after watching a youtube video on the device (even after the browser is closed).
I'd be happy to send any additional information required to get these things fixed ASAP.
If I could suggest a few enhancements for future updates, please consider the following:
-When deleting a song, it would be nice to see on the warning dialog the name of the song you're deleting. A couple times I've held my finger over the wrong song and didn't realize it till it was too late.
-Would also be nice if the music player could be turned into a background app that can be launched from the settings menu.
-There does not appear to be a way to search for a song inside a playlist. This is a must-have feature!

Not sure what you are referring too... If I tap the screen once to get the commands to come up and then tap the shuffle icon, it changes from blue to white depending on whether shuffle on or off.
somehow, i can't reproduce it now. a friend showed me and i tried myself agreeingly. now it works ;>| - let you know when i find it again
    - when switching back to video, the currently played video should be present as with music play
I am with you on that one

    input mode?
once they keyboard comes up (input mode) and you tilt the iPt, it doesn't switch orientation anymore until you finished
    - screen orientation for all screens
    - 360 degree screen; orientation change in any direction (currently only works one way)
Actually, if you are in the music section, you can turn the screen to get an orientation in 3 positions. The only one position it wont move to is the one where the IPT is upside down.
    1. it should be able to switch in any section; even in lists because this would be natural for a user.
    2. upside down should definetly work because many people will have the iPt in a pocket, or additionaly, like me in a small pouch-bag. since the headphone jack is on the bottom, the natural position on first view when taking it out will always be upside down in such cases.
    missing features:
    - the usual suspects: scheduler edit, missing email, 3rd party sdk
    - album/ artist shuffle
Isn't that pretty much the same as song shuffle? I don't think I have ever gone to a song on the same album, much less the same artist.
no. i am a bit old school, mind me saying that, and am usually listening to whole albums. so, i just want the next album being choosen by random. btw, itunes and the old iPods have this functionality already. as for the artists, i think, the same should apply and am sure to use it. maybe it is not your listening style but i know plenty of people doing it.
If you go into the selection list that arranges by album or artist and select a song through there the shuffle works just on the album or artist you opened, if that was what you meant.
    - video/ tv shows continues play
Thats a cool idea, so it just runs one episode after another
    - apple should talk to apple: safari support for apple .mac websites (email, quicktime)
I think i read somewhere that you should be forwarded too the .mac website that is made for the IPT and the iPhone
well, i am not forwarded to other than just the regular mail interface when going to webmail.mac.com. just viewing is fine but trying to compose a message always breaks somewhere, either entering the address field before entering the text field, or when getting it right when pressing "sent". in such cases the the IPt just returns to the main application screen and that is it for this. if you find what you were mentioning, pleasxe post
    - usb disk support
Not sure what you are refering too.... using the IPT for storage or using a USB key for extra space to store on the touch
well, both would be cool, though we might get that one with the upcoming SDK, but at least as USB key as with the old iPods
    - better volume and position control as fine tuning is difficult; maybe reintroduce circular motion
    - itunes-like search
I love the search idea.... let us type in the artist or song name with that fabulous onscreen KB.
especially considering that yet again the old iPods have this already, safe the on-screen keyboard

  • Urgent! Music player error/bug

my n95 8gb's music player has some kinda error. i downloaded a mp3 file, the artist name was ACDC. i renamed it to AC/DC, but the ACDC artist name wasn't deleted. i opened it, nothing was there. i tried to delete it, but a pop-up message says General: Feature Not Supported. Can anyone here help me with this? coz i have to sell my phone so i can buy an electric guitar. Please help..
    Regards,

This is a normal case with the phone
on firmware 3.08 you often get General System Error
on firmware 3.26 you would get an never ending Searching for Music
on firmware 4.13 you would freeze up your music playing by using the original head set after playing 2-5 tracks
I have to add that the music player is the major flaw in this phone with its series of bugs.  It has issues when updating library after adding new songs too, in addition to its low sound production.
I have tried the phone soft reset but this is never a permanent solution
The phone is a good phone still but Nokia seems to neglect its users.

  • I'm looking for a music player with the following features:

    Hi everyone,
I'm setting up a linux desktop for the first time. I'd like some directions on finding a music player. Here are my criteria, in order of importance:
      - Can play (at least) ogg, mp3 and wav
      - Prefers a 'playlist approach' (m3u) to a 'media library' approach
      - Can play songs without breaks in-between
      - Fast startup
      - Simple interface (ex. VLC beats mplayer)
My window manager is pekwm. This is for usability reasons, not performance reasons - my comp. can handle all the bells and whistles you throw at it (actually, I tried with my doorbell, but I wouldn't recommend with the church bell). (sorry for the bad humour). Crazy visualisations and features whose sole purposes are to eat up CPU cycles are O.K.
Good support for keyboard would be appreciated - I am a pekwm user.
    So what have you got?

MPD rocks, runs here for months without major problems.
The client side is very flexible, you can choose many players:
    http://www.musicpd.org/clients.shtml
    For X, for console, etc..
    Edit:
MPD supports Icecast also, to create streams.

  • Summary of Belle bugs / missing features - Need so...

NOTE : The following has been my learning from the forums. I have not yet switched to Belle and am waiting in Anna E6. Also none of the esteemed members seem to have actually posted a screenshot anywhere so that I could judge it for myself.
    Regarding disadvantages of Belle:
Type 1 - Reproducible and generally agreed to be a disadvantage
Reduced information at a glance in Calender - Just one line of information visible is as bad as calender widge on the homescreen of my Nokia 6220 Classic. Anna shows 3 lines.
Not hidable larges statusbar in Web. Although I mostly use Opera Mobile, the Nokiaappwizard applications and Nokia apps like Social are hard coded to use Web only I guess.
Reduced number of applications available for Belle. Really dependent on third parties but factually is indeed a problem.
D-pad support - Quite a loss in E6 or any phones with a keyboard. (I have noticed that the new QML based Nokia Store app did not have D-pad support during Beta testing but magically gained it for the release version and it follows Belle UI)
Inability to switch to battery saving mode by clicking on the battery icon.
Lack of character count while typing text messages. (Firasalshabibi in this forum has suggested a temporary solution of using SwitchBoard, but I have not yet gotten used to it)
Deeply burried traditional sms inbox view.
Reduced number shortcuts possible on each homepage - 8 compared to 12 on Anna.
Non-removable text below the shortcut icons.
Type 2 - Reported by many but not necessarilly reproducible in each case
Reduced speed of phone - many people have good results but a few have bad results. Might be due to not wiping out old data completely.
Battery life - Many report no ille effects while some say reduced battery life.
Not able to predict remaining battery life by counting number of bars - that indicator is never an accurate indicator of battery life anyway and for an approximate idea the new picture is ok.
Phone crashes and freezes - again experienced only by a few and may be due to leftover cruft and or hardware issues.

Agree with you! Please add to your list :
    1) we can't see the battery level in % anymore. The small icon has a limited information. (i had to install third-party widget, since the Nokia Battery Monitor isn't working on Belle).
    2) so small number of widgets available on the phone and in the Store!
    3) Widgets of a single contact are way too big. If they were offered in two sizes: the same as every other program shortcut and the one we all have today. (for people with glasses, like my mom).
    4) Music player - WHY IT CAN'T PLAY FOLDERS?! I have 8GB of music sorted in folders i created. I expected the new OS would have this option. Not everybody uses album and artist tags. Again, had to buy a third-party player. Even in the Nokia Store there are no players with file manager.
    5) Battery life in general. It has redused since i moved from Anna to Belle. Not too much, but ...
    6) When i answer the call and begin talking i can press with my chik all kinds of things on the screen. Even almost sent an SMS to someone. I am not alone with this thing. It was bug in Anna and i hoped it will be fixed in Belle. But no..
This is what i have found so far.

  • Music Player with ID3 Tag Feature

Any application that has ID3 tag feature? I can't stay in front of my PC all the time to change and organize all my music files properly. I prefer organize them via my 5800, so, I can do it anytime. Yes, 5800 has its own 'song details' feature. But it's only temporary. If I formatted my memory card, all the details are gone, and I have to organize them again!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I think you're missing the point here. Of course when you format the memory card, all data is deleted. Hence it would make sense to perform a backup of your memory card contents onto your computer before formatting the memory card. Easiest way to do this is to copy everything from the memory card (i.e. displayed as Removable Disk in Windows) to your hard drive on your computer. Then when the format is complete, copy the songs back to your memory card. That way, all the ID3 tags for songs that you modified on your phone will be restored to the memory card.
If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!

  • Music player bug on iPhone 5 after iOS7.1.1 update

    Good day everyone,
There are over 30,000 discussions here so i would like to post this report. after i updated my iphone5 to ios 7.1.1 i have been experiencing a bug with the music player. the bug is when i started to play a playlist and tried to select other song within the playlist while a music is running, my action give a next command instead of playing the music that i selected.
i hope for your quick resolution.
    thank you..

I think all you need to do is Reset your iPhone (press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple logo, then release).  My iPhone 5 on 7.1.1 does not do this, so it is not an iOS bug, just a quirk in your particular installation.  Worse case, you may need to do a Restore of the iPhone, but try Reset first.

  • Torch 9860 music player icon missing

Hi there.. I have some problems with the music player. After I installed a theme and reboot the phone, I realized that my music player icon was missing. I can't find it in media folder, so I try the universal search, but with no result. It's like it just disappeared. What should I do? Anyone here has the same problem? Waiting for your replies. Thx

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Themes have quite some power...including the ability to hide things from you completely. Given what you describe, that's what I'd deduce is happening...the Theme you installed is hiding those things from you. To find out more, you need to contact the Theme developer. Alternatively, remove the Theme.
    Good luck!

  • Best Lightweight Music Player/Manager

I was looking for a music player with the following features.
    1. Lightweight.
    2. Quick keyboard controls.
    3. Music management (organize music based on id3 tags and folders)
    4. Edit id3 tags in baches and one-by-one.
    5. Rating of songs.
Other features that will be appreciated but not necessary are:
    1. Ability to change music format.
    2. Rip music from cd.
    I tried the following:
    1. xmms + madman. I dont like the way madman opens xmms separately and poor integration of these 2.
    2. mpd + client. I tried few clients like sonata, gmpc and gmpc works best for me, but again i cannot edit id3 tags.
    3. xmms2 +client. I havent found a good client for it.
Whats the best in ur opinion.
Also please suggest a client for mpd and xmms2 that have the above features.

I guess you have to make choices on what you find important to have vs system requirements.
    Some very non-scientific data:
    http://fifthplanet.blogspot.com/2007/03 … ayers.html
Yeah.... i think they're very non-scientific and unrepresentative.
Just checked up here, mpd is using 0.8% of 1gb ram, that is, *8mb*
So... yeah, either all those applications are terrible, or those results are very fubar.
    James
I agree... I've had MPD running and playing for the past 18 hours and it's using 6mb. MPD is very very lightweight by it's self.
Sonata is using 34mb, but I know there's alot lighter-weight clients out there.
edit: and the funny thing is, sonata (and mpd combined) beats all those music players, and it's got tons of features

  • Nokia 5310 music player question?

    Hello there,
I would much appreciate if you could help me out with this one.
is there any way to "search" songs in my playlist, or in "all songs" mode in the nokia5310 music player? It seems that I could only scroll and sort them, also rearange them, but not search them by letters.
If there is no such option, you could probably recommend me a music player that has this feature?
    Thanks for your time

I finally got a reply from Nokia Customer Service:
"thank you for contacting NOKIA Care.
Unfortunately we need to inform you that the requested search is not available.
If you have further questions please don't hesitate to contact us again"
    Great!!

  • Bug: music player volume disabled when navigating ...

First of all, again, much kudos to Nokia for releasing free voice navigation!!
One feature I like a lot about the navigation function is that I can listen to music (e.g. while cycling) and still get voice directions. However I've experienced the following bug with Maps v3.03 10wk01 b05 and Music Player (firmware v40.0.5): when voice navigation is on, I cannot change the volume of the music player any more. In other words, when the Maps application is in the foreground, acting on the volume rocker will adjust the volume of voice navigation, as expected. However, when Maps is in the background and the music player is in the foreground, acting on the volume rocker has no effect (not even on the navigation voice volume).
Not sure this is a bug of Maps, but it looks like having navigation on disables volume control on the music player.
Does this happen to you too?

On my E71 I cannot separately control the volume for Music Player and Maps.  This is an annoyance when driving with the Bluetooth connection to the car stereo.

  • Successfully Synced Music Missing In Music Player

Alright, maybe you all can help me, maybe I'm just missing something obvious... Here's my problem:
I'm trying to sync my music to my Sprint Pre using the syncing feature in Windows Media Player. It says I've got 1200 songs and that they all successfully sync. What's more, if I look through the Pre's files through my computer it shows that all the songs are contained in the phone's memory just like they should be.
Problem is, once I open the Pre's music player, only about 350 songs show up. Some albums will only have a portion of their songs, and some albums are missing entirely!
Now I've tried this twice, and both times the music syncs successfully, and both times I double-checked through my computer that the Pre's memory does indeed contain all those music files. Not to mention, after the first time, when I went to delete those 350 songs to start over the computer confirmed that it was deleting 1200 files.
So it seems everything transfers over successfully, and in fact, looking now at my phone's memory, the appropriate amount of space is indeed being used... But most of that music isn't showing up at all.
Is there a file viewer\manager on the phone somewhere that I can't find? Am I missing something completely obvious? Where's all my music? WHAT GIVES?!
Thanks for any help you can give me...

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
Media sync from WMP may not be the best option for managing your music. You can just put your phone into USB mode and drag and drop mp3 files to your device just like you were putting them onto a thumb drive. You can put them in any folder, the Pre will see and manage them automatically. If they're already showing there, I would delete the music off of the Pre and then re-add them manually, not syncing through WMP.
Additionally, you could use a program like DoubleTwist to manage your music.
    Hope this helps,
    TreoAide

(ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.
I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync  music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them.  Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view.  I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes.  My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.
Thank you for actually making it to the end of this manuscript of annoyances.

Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

  • Missing Features, Bugs, and Wish List for Apple Engineers

I LOVE my iPhone. It is by far the best phone I have ever had. The interface is awesome. Great job Apple, but there are missing features and bugs that all of us want updated or wish were added. I know they were probably already thought of by Apple, but in an effort to make the phone perfect removed to make it more stable. Now that it is out lets make it perfect.
This thread will hopefully give you guys guidance from the early adopters who share your love for the phone (and others who want to chime in). I want to separate the list into a few categories and hope everyone will add to this thread with their ideas:
    1) BUGS/CHANGES TO EXISTING APPS:
    - Period should be in alphabet keyboard (make space smaller) or when you go to symbol keyboard and hit period it should automatically go back to the alphabet keyboard (unless you double click the symbol button which means stay there like caps lock)
    - Individual delete (like Mail) of all lists (eg. call list, bookmarks list, history etc.
    - Multiple item in a List delete (see below for how to select). This is also so un-Mac like to not be able to select multiple items to delete. It is all or none for clear/delete on the iPhone.
    - Implement double finger slide...in maps double finger tap zooms out so the OS recognizes this, why don't you use a double finger drag to mean "select". There is no way to select some words in a sentence or a group of items. This could be how. eg. In a list (eg Mail) double finger slide over items you want to select (instead of singer finger drag which moves the list) then one finger slide to the right to delete the selected items from the list.
    - Copy and paste. Since there are no menus this would require a gesture (ala newton)
    - when you tap the battery icon it should bring up a battery status dialog (ala wifi join dialog where the screen dims): present charge, big battery icon (like the charging one), time left. In addition, instead of giving battery usage details only after a full charge, give it at any point.
    - Since you know that nights and weekends are at set times (and not variable like it was on Sprint where I came from)...the phone usage details should be broken down into: peak minutes used and N+W minutes used (not hard to figure out since you know the time and dates of calls)
    - Be able to change font/background etc in Notes app
    - faster way to get to favorites in the killer phone app after turning on phone. Just seems like it takes too many taps to get there to make a call on a phone.
    2) WISH LIST FOR NEW APPS (apps that can be added with existing hardware, see #3 for other wishes)
    - iChat (obvious and probably almost done)
    - VOIP (probably not going to happen, and wouldn't work in Europe where I would need it most gven network speeds there)
    - Flight tracker widget
    - Exchange support (probably in the works)
    - Push email from gmail and .Mac (probably in the works)
    - Bluetooth sync
    - DUN (probably not going to happen since AT+T does not want it)
    - Data/File storage with sync
    - TODO APP that syncs to to do in iCal
    - Ringtones, definitely from songs from iPod side (obvious and coming soon I am sure)
-Search function like spotlight. Global would be awesome, but even just in contacts
    3) FUTURE HARDWARE RELATED WISHES (stuff we wish could be in hardware version 1 but know require a version 2):
    - GPS
    - 3G
    - LED that changes color and/or pulses (like MacBooks sleep light) that indicates things (eg charge status, Voice mail status, roaming status etc) without turning on the phone
    - Move camera to front to allow video conferencing (I doubt Steve would allow since it would mess up the clean front look)
Well I could go on and will add to this thread later, but I need to go to work to show everyone (and sell more apple stuff since many of my colleagues have been converted to macs). Now, all you pioneers, start adding things to help our beloved phone become better!
    Peter
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.6)

I agree with your post! I'm amazed by the simplicity, the screen, and the apps on the iPhone. They all have worked wonderfully for me, with just a few crashes while surfing or loading big email images. (I heard that shutting down the phone and restarting helps that.)
The single flaw for me is that the phone app itself should be primary, with more options (quicker access, unique ringtones, voicedial?) and ease of use. The other applications are so elegant, but I need my phone to be very accessible and practical too.
    My wish list:
    1) Make it fewer taps to get to the point where you can make a phone call. How about the main button can be programmed to take you wherever you want. I'd choose to go to Phone Favorites, so I could speed dial right away.
    2) Be able to set a preference as to what app you're in when you wake up the phone. I'd choose phone keypad, some might choose iCal, etc.
    3) Add the period and comma symbols to the alpha keyboard.
    4) Allow different ringtones for specific caller ID's.
    5) Copy and paste.
V2) With new hardware, add a "back" button to return to prev. screen. It could be small, on the side near volume?

  • BUG?  Music Player in iTunes is broken after update to 10.5

I updated to iTunes 10.5.0.142 so that I could load the new ios on my iPad.  My music player worked flawlessly prior to the update, but now every single song in my library plays distorted.  Most songs are mp3's that I've ripped myself so I can play these on other players and verify it's not the audio file.  Every song playing through iTunes sounds like static, heavy synth, and cymbals.  I can tell it's the song I'm selecting, but it just doesn't sound right - maybe like you're listening to it on an FM radio channel and you're 2 clicks way (trying to listen to 94.7 FM on 94.9 FM, for example).
I attempted to resolve by first "repairing" iTunes and then i uninstalled/reinstalled; nothing has worked.  I tried getting Support from Apple but it wants me to pay for an issue with the "free" software...no thanks.  Thankfully my hardware is working fine, albeit the iPad 1 is noticably SLOWER after this update.
Mp3s played through Windows Media, Spotify, or HP Play (for my Touchpad) are all good - just not iTunes.  Is anyone else experiencing these issues using the iTunes music player?  This seems like a serious software bug.  Absolutely nothing changed on my computer except for the version of iTunes.

I updated to 10.5.0.142 the day before yesterday when prompted but already had iTunes open, chose not to reboot my PC (as requested) but shut it down at the end of the day.  Yesterday when I did boot up the PC and try to go into iTunes it just kept crashing  - I got some sort of APPCRASH dialogue) before it could even open it!  I tried rebooting again but got no further.
Then I deleted iTunes out of my programs and tried a reinstall, but STILL it kept crashing.  So I then deleted it again and this time downloaded 10.4.1 from this link http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427 (bottom of the page).  All is now rosy again   It did tell me that there is a newer version of iTunes as soon as i went in but obviously I ignored this and turned off the prompt I won't be upgrading for a few months or at least untill I hear that all is in working order.
Don't expect this sort of thing from Apple (and I hear that there are proplems with the latest iPhone OS upgrade).
