Music player without gnome dependencies for a light desktop.

Im looking for a gtk music player like exaile or quodlibet (some app that manages a music library), but doesnt have gnome dependencies. I always end up installing gnome-vfs, gconf and others because gstreamer pulls them.

MPD with Ario as client. Sonata is good MPD client too.

Music player requires title attribute for song nam...

Hi, I just transferred a set of music to my yellow Lumia 920. Some of the song names do not show up in Lumia music player, and i found the reason : for some of the files, the music file uses the attribute "title". For those files, the song name works (it's that "title"). But for some files, the title attribute is empty and there is just file name. For those, the song name does not show up (that is : Lumia does not use the file name as song name, but it requires the "title" attribute).
Now my question : what would be the easiest way to overcome this. Either how to tell Lumia to use file name is title field is missing, or how to fast copy the file name to title field? Or something else.
(I did not use Zune for file transmission but transerred the files by copy&paste method. I've got an old XP computer that do not quite understand modern devices like Lumia...;-)

I ended up doing it by hand. That is, copy filename to "title" attribute. There are not so many of those files afterall.
Another interesting things that I've discovered during my "iPod => Lumia mp3 migration"
- if I've done my own mp3 albums, all mp3 files should have a same "album artist" value e.g. "various". Othervise, each mp3 with different album artist will appear as a separate album
- disconnect xbox music service. It obviously search for album names etc from xbox, but at least with my music collection it screws everything. It may e.g. divide one album in two parts, each part having different genre.
My favourite music player currenlty is "musicPlayer 8 free", since it allows selecting a genre, and then albums on that genre.

Asha 501 Music player without equalisers

Hi,
My nokia asha 501 music player doesn't have equalisers, can we expect the next future release of the asha software..
Also, when I plugin the earphone and listen any songs and unplug the earphone music stops. Is this expected behavior,
I've check with other phone, ideally they should play in the speakers but music player stops working as soon as I plug out earphone.
Also, I tried to listen the fm thorough spkear (inserting an earphone) as soon as I unplug the earphone and try to listen the music player the volume is very low..

May or maynot be not sure. But you can expect an equaliser app which available in store for asha 311 series devices.Its name is "smart 40". But any how this(501) is new platform and not sure if an app is available.

[SOLVED] Build Firefox without gnome dependencies?

Hi!
I've been trying for a while now to get rid of gnome and everything "gnomish", but firefox (and every other browser I tried but kazehakage) seems to be very attached to some libraries. I tried to build quite a few variants I found on aur, but they either try to pull gconf, libgnomesomething etc. or fail to build on Arch 64 (like firefox-pgo which btw. makes me think, that XULrunner is actually what's relying on gnome-libraries).
Did anyone get that done?

That's strange... so why does it install a lot of gnome stuff when building it with makepkg? I think it even calls gconf, as I found the annoying folders & subfolders belonging to it in my home Directory once again...

Unhappy with iOS7 music player its no good for audiobooks - does anyone have a solution?

I used to be able to see chapters of books via the menu options. Now I cant see any chapters at all. When bluetooth conections from my car break the player will often revert to an earlier listening position during the story. I then find it very difficult using the small slider to easily refind where I was listening to the story.
Please Apple change the player to allow audiobook fans any easy way to control their enjoyment of products bought in the apple store...

Some of what you are describing is commun to a lot of user, some other not.
For specific third party apps crashing, I guess you will have to wait until an update for iOS6 from the developpers. As for the App Store crashing, some research in forums that this is to be spreaded to many users. For this one, no options seems to efficienly handle the issue and therefore, we will have to wait until an Apple update.
The fact that all your apps are crashing and that you got slow performances seems to be a more specific issue. I think that performing a restore on your iPod should worth your time. I personally got a few crashing apps as well as the AppStore but other than this, performaces are quite as with iOS5.

N91 music player for n80

does any one have n91 music player in sisx file for n80. or will the next firmware of n80 will get a newer music player with stero widening and 8 band equalizer.

Sorry ,it is not possible,
I think it wont have it until nokia makes a serious effort on N91.
rEASON:tHE n91 is made by a special music chipset and the music player of this set is not available.
but you can go to www.lonelycatgames.com and try LCG Jukebox and believe me it has 10 band equaliser and has more functionalities.
And AFAIK if you install it and plug a 3.5 mm standard headphone it would be really awsome.

Gnumeric without GNOME

I thought I'd post this in case others weren't aware of the fact that you can install Gnumeric with very few GNOME deps. Apparently most of the GNOME dependencies that Arch has for Gnumeric are, in fact, optional. To see the list of deps, go here and scroll down to the table.
So, here's what you do. I've written it out a bit for those who are less familiar with PKGBUILDs.
1. Run "abs" so that you get the latest PKGBUILDs.
2. Go to /var/abs/extra/lib/goffice, edit the PKGBUILD so that the deps say:
depends=('libgsf' 'libgnomeprint')
and then run "makepkg" and "pacman -A" the package.
3. Go to /var/abs/extra/office/gnumeric, edit the PKGBUILD so that the deps say:
depends=('libgnomeprintui' 'goffice')
and so the configure line says:
./configure --prefix=/opt/gnome --without-guile --without-gnome --without-psiconv
and then run "makepkg" and "pacman -A" the package.
4. Copy your goffice and gnumeric directories to /var/abs/local so they don't get overwritten.
Note that you'll get a few error msgs about gconftool not installed and other gnome things that I was too lazy to remove because they can be safely ignored.

AFAIK abiword can be built without gnome dependencies by configuring it as:
./configure --disable-gnome --disable-printing --disable-spellcheck --with-libxml2
However you would be unable to print anything without the libraries.

While opening web or downloading any file,if u wanna switch to music player without closing/exiting from browser,u just have to open any youtube video aur link(as any link with rtsp type format).
By doing this, you just switch to music player and browser and its downloads run in background.
For coming back to browser,just hit the right(back) key.

Nokia n96 music player

Hi,
I've transferred music onto the mass storage using windows media player. They are all mp3 files that I used to have on my old n95, so I don't think there's any DRM issues. I can see (and play) the new music in file manager, put if I hit refresh library in the music player it sits there for ages saying refreshing and doesn't find any music. I left it overnight and it still found nothing by the morning. Does anyone have any ideas what's gone wrong? I've looked on here and can't seem to see anyone else who's having the same problem I don't think.

Before opting to reformat your phone, you could try my advice.
Just to be safe, make a backup of your phone first to avoid losing any personal data.
You could try to "fix" the file corruption that has happened to the storage media where your music is stored.
1. Connect the phone via USB (Mass Storage Mode)
2. Take note which drive your music is stored in your phone (D:\ or E:\ or F:\ etc)
3. Make sure you close all Windows Explorer windows (or any software accessing your phone's storage)
4. Open command prompt (in Windows XP: Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt)
5. On the command prompt window, type:
chkdsk F: /f
*Note: replace "F:" with the drive letter of the storage media where your music is located in your phone (refer to step 2)
6. Press the ENTER key to start checking your storage media for errors and automatically fixing them. If it asks:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first.
ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID.
Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)
Just type Y then press ENTER. The checking/fixing might take a while. You should be able to refresh your Music Library without any problems

Faulty n95 v21 music player?

Before on v20 (with orig. Nokia 1gb microsd and 2gb microsd), every new music added through nokia music manager will be automatically added to the music player without me refreshing the phone, now a couple of days(maybe weeks)i updated fw (v21) and i also switched to a sandisk 4gb microsd hc, i noticed that music doesn't automatically appears on the player, i have to refresh the music player from time 2 time.
Could it be the memory card? Or the firmware?

Revert to a memory card that you were using when the phone didn't display the fault. If the problem goes away then the new memory card is the source of the problem. If the problem persists then it's the new firmware.

Music player takes a few minutes to start playing music

I just put some more music on my daughters iPod and noticed that when you open the music player and press play for a song it pauses it acts like it is going to play but then doesn't for over a minute. Anyone else have this problem and have any solutions for me?

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

E5 music player library not updating automatically

I have an E5. Earlier when I downloaded new songs on my phone and opened the music player, it automatically searched for new tracks and updated itself. Now I dont know what has happened it doesnt get updated automatically and I have to update it manually. Can I get a fix for it? Please help.

It is normal for the music player not to always update automatically, whenever adding music, open player and select options>refresh Music Player !

Sony HAPS1/B 500GB Hi-Res Music Player System

I just purchased a Sony HAPS1/B 500GB Hi-Res Music Player System. My hope it to store my 200+ CD collection on it and be able to play it through this device with the full audio resolution. Sony is not very helpful as far as their manuals or customer support, and, of course, every support person will immediately say they can't help because we need to talk with Apple or whomever.
It appears that the HAP transfer program requires that I have my lossless music in a folder on my MacBook Pro. I had hoped I could simply copy directly from my CD drive (external for my MacBook Pro).
I've set iTunes to the maximum settings for lossless non-compression when loading CD's. Prior to this, it appears that iTunes turned all my CD's into mp3 files, and the Sony HAPS1/B 500GB Hi-Res Music Player System is dutifully copying all those MP3 files to it's internal hard drive.
I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone know a shortcut for getting CD's to the Sony HAPS1/B 500GB Hi-Res Music Player System?

Set it to AIFF.
Do this before you RIP any CDs and they will be imported in this format.
Why rip as AIFF if it supports ALAC? Smaller files and same quality.
PersonRichardson: You can't just "copy" files from a CD to a computer. Audio CDs have a special format and the files have to be "ripped" using iTunes or other ripping software. If you don't want these to have the intermediary step of being added to iTunes (though you can delete them again) you can use a non-iTunes ripper such as XLD or Max.

E52 music player freezing

it freezes a lot - esp when im tryin to open the music player, it will freeze for about a minute or 2 - then open..... !! grr! how can i fix this?

1: Connect it to PC in "Mass Storage" mode, and run Checkdisk on memory card under windows.
2: Connect in "mass Storage" mode, Copy all your data from memory card to hard drive. format memory card, now copy back only your music to "Sounds" folder. Disconnect, open music player.
if everything is working fine, connect again and copy back all your data.
Otherwise
3: BACKUP YOUR DATA from phone memory too, take out card, dial this code *#7370# enter your lock code, default is 12345. (Make sure you have enough battery power) it'll wipe c/phone memory.
