Music Players that can access shared library

I'm extremely unhappy with the iOS 6 music player. Its horribly buggy, terrible UI, and has just generally been a pain to use.
However it has one feature I can't live without: the ability to use my iTunes shared libraries.
Is there a decent music player out there which could access my shared library, or maybe access it using some form of remote filesystem like NFS, SMB, etc?
I could even put my music on my NAS box if I had a nice player that could access it over the net on the iPad.
Support for Airplay definitely a big feature (probably requirement) to either Airplay speakers or Apple Express.

  • Can't access shared library to import.  Why?

When trying to access sharing, library will not come up in iTunes so that it can be imported.  Can anyone tell me why?

    Rebel,
iTunes has two kinds of sharing:  regular sharing, which allows listening but not copying, and Home Sharing, which does allow copying.
Make sure you are using Home Sharing, and that both computers are authorized to the relevant account.

  • Can see but not access shared library

I have a PC running Windows XPsp3 and the latest version of iTunes, and my husband is on a macbook using the latest OS and iTunes.  We both have Home Sharing enabled and he can access my library, but I can not access his.  I can see his shared library but when I click on it, it thinks for a while and kicks me back to my library.  I checked to make sure we were both using the same account info and that we both had sharing enabled.  I checked to make sure our respective firewalls where allowing iTunes through. We are using an AirPort for our router; I'm wired in and he is wireless. I've been looking in the community and can't see where anyone has successfully resolved this problem.
BTW, before I recently reformatted and rebuilt my PC, when I encountered this problem I would get an error stating I needed to check my firewall.  Reformatting my PC did not correct the problem, only removed the error message.
    Anyone have any other ideas?

  • App that can access windows file sharing

Hello... I've got my Nokia 500 today, but i'm looking for an app that can access windows file sharing via wifi. I want to transfer my picture from cellphone to my computer via wifi..
Nokia 500 -> Wifi -> Computer (Windows File Sharing)...
Anyone please create an app for me

Telexy SymSMB used to be such an app, but was taken off the market (Nokia demanded it, because apparently some Nokia employees were involved in developing the app). Don't know if anything similar has come out since then.

If so ... quickly doublechecking ... do you currently have any items selected in the screen?

  • TS2972 my apple tv devices and other apple devices can access my library but using my library, i cant access any of the apple tv devices through airplay

    Home sharing isn't working either
Which is why you can not use the remote app.  Did you turn on home sharing on your computer and on ATV?
eve though they have the same Apple ID.
Did you enter the ApplieID in the home sharing login though?  Or just in for the iTunes store, or iCloud, or photo sharing, or something else?
Home sharing isn't working either, I can't play or transmit any video from my iPad to the Apple TV because it doesn't recognize it
That would be AirPlay, not homesharing.  THey are not related.  Did you enable air play on all the devices?
Have you run the network test tools on ATV?  Can ATV access the iTunes store, Netflix, etc?

You will probably need to inquire with a VMware consultant to get this kind of information.  VMware depends on these people to make sure they keep the reputation of the software at a very high level.
They will have access to various free tools to help large and small scale deployments.  Tools like VMware Health Check Script and the ESX deployment tool.

  • ITunes 9 will not burn a music CD that can play on a CD player

Ever since I upgraded to Itunes 9 I cannot copy (burn) a music CD that can be played on any CD player device other than the MacBook. I tried changing the format preference from .aif to .mpg4a but it still only creates CD's that cannot play. I am not pirating anything. I copied my own bought retail music CD's onto the MacBook and gave away the CD's to eliminate clutter. In the past I have been able to copy them for my own use for the car or the bedroom where there is no computer available. This is so frustrating. Please help!

does the format of the original song make a difference? for instance, if the data is mp3 data, but you try to burn an audio cd, will that mess it up? I dunno. it didn't use to, I dont think. I have no idea about iTunes9
You could convert the songs to .aif in QuickTime before hand just to make sure iTunes9 isn't messing it up.

    Hi MrJavonte15,
If you are having issues installing iTunes on your Windows machine, you may want to take a look at the following article:
Apple Support: Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1926
If you have previously installed iTunes and continue to have issues, you may want to remove and reinstall iTunes:

I have a requirement where I have to give the list of users who can access a specific computer define in AD.
    I am new with PS.
Do you have a script to list users that can access a computer object of AD ?
I have executed the following script  but it does not give me the access rights of who can access the computer 'computername'
How can i have this information. please help
    Import-Module activedirectory
    $computer=get-adcomputer "computername" -properties ntSecurityDescriptor
    $omputer.ntsecurityDescriptor.Access | select-object -expandproperty IdentityReference | sort-object -unique

I would say that, since the OP has so little info, there are no policies in use.  It there were then this question would never be asked the way it is being asked.
I had a client call with a letter from their insurance company; an accountant with malpractice insurance.  THey asked the same question inmuch the same way.  "What computer can you users access?"  The question should be more like
"Do you have a policy that restricts access to computers and do you audit for compliance?"
I have had other clients whose insurance asked the question in that way.  It produces a better view of what should be happening and how to show compliance.
I recommend that companies being asked these questions by their legal departments or insurance companies should contract with a god computer security consultant to assist with answering these very tricky questions.  Of course if it is just you boss's
curiosity  then you may need to discuss his requirements with him in more depth.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • ITunes can't access shared library when Vista parental controls are on

I started a thread back on March 1 2008, but it got archived before it could be answered, see:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1420673&tstart=0
I'm using 64 bit Vista with iTunes version of 8.0.2.20, but I don't believe this issue has anything to do with the 64 bit versus 32 bit iTunes versions.
    The exact message is:
"The shared library "libraryname" is not responding. (-39)
Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689."
But if I turn off Parental Controls, the shared library is accessible, it all works fine. This has nothing to do with the iTunes store (and potential web site blocking), I just want to allow shared library access while leaving parental controls on.
    Any ideas?

This question has been around for almost two years now with no answer...very frustrating and disappointing that no one from Apple can step in and assist. I have set up the port number on my firewalls, both Windows and McAfee, as per the iTunes message and it still does not work...so I am now at a loss.
Turn off parental conrols and it all works perfectly...turn it on and library is visible but not accessible...PLEASE can someone help with this!!!
    Thanks.

  • How come only 5 users a day can access shared music?

I just moved into the dorms, and all the other people's shared music keeps saying that it will only allow 5 users a day to access others' shared music. How can we change that so we can all share each others' music?

Sorry, but you can't change it. That limit was incorporated into iTunes by demand of the record companies and is not user-settable.

I'm looking for a music player app that can skip forward and backwards a few seconds?

MPD rocks, runs here for months without major problems.
The client side is very flexible, you can choose many players:

    For X, for console, etc..
    Edit:
MPD supports Icecast also, to create streams.
