Music ratings - why isn't it automated

When importing a CD into ITunes, iTunes has the capabilty to pull in the detail. Why doesn't it pull in the ratings automatically? Other applications do it but not ITunes.
I would love to be able to setup playlists based on industry ratings vs. manually marking each song. I have almost 4000 songs (yes they're legal) and it's an impossible task to mark each one.

I completely agree with the issue regarding the loss of being able to rank a single song. Individual song ranking was a feature a while back but something changed in a later release (either deliberate or perhaps a defect that hasn't been fixed). When I updated a song and it updated the entire album, that's the last time I used Apple's ranking field. Not at all useful in my thinking and I haven't played with it since.
Many years ago with Windows Media, the song information downloaded included the "industry" ranking. This was helpful when you have 1000's of songs to manage. The user could create playlists leveraging what the "industry" experts thought was a 5 star song. You got a fairly decent playlist although there were songs I didn't necessarily agree. The software provided the user the option to override/modify. Another way to think of it, lets say you have 4000 songs in your library. If you disagree with 50% of the rankings then only 50% had to be modified. It saved a lot of keystrokes.
I'll give my feedback to apple but I have found that potential enhancements that have a lot of activity in a forum sometimes bubble to the top of the list more quickly.

1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

You enable iTunes Match on your iPad by making sure your are signed into the Apple ID you used to subscribe in iTunes Match in Settings>iTunes & App Stores, then turning iTunes Match and Show All Music to On.
Also, iTunes Match doesn't use your iCloud storage plan so you don't need to purchase a storage upgrade to use it.

Have you tried a set of headphones that work in other devices?
To rule out a software problem try in order:
- Reset:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factoerydefaults/new iPOd
If still have a problem you likely have a problem with the headphone jack and you need to get the iPod or jack replaced.

Have you signed up for iTunes match and let it upload your library? Are you signed in, when you are trying to download from the cloud?

From what I've read, the Podcast App needs some refinement before it can be considered as a suitable replacement for the Podcast section within the Music App. As you have discovered, deleting the App allows you to revert back to the old method.
I'll save everyone the trouble of "reading between the lines" here; I don't use the Podcast App, but from what I've read, it's rubbish!

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Yeah, once people get hooked on streaming music, they tend to be much less interested in purchasing downloads, and especially not from a music store that sells songs in an inconvenient (AAC) format instead of the de facto standard, MP3 format.

When you hooked up to your PC did they attempt to import? Had you imported them previously and not deleted when the import was complete?
If you have to delete them directly on your device, you need to press the select button and just keep selecting until you have all of them selected, then put them in the trash.
You do not need to select one then trash it, then select another then trash it. You can select as many as you like before clicking on the trash icon.

It probably has to do with your security and/or browser configuration.
When my laptop crashed last year and I had to get a new one, I dealt with the same thing. First, go to your control panel and select the security section. See if your firewalls are up or not. If they are, turn them off. If you have any software to speed up your browser, that can affect the connection as well. Go into that software and disble/turn it off. If this doesn't work, contact customer support. They have a few other tricks they had me try that worked, but I can't remember them now.
