Music sharing from one itunes account to another itunes account

My question is I downloaded music from my brother-in-law's itunes account to my iphone, then when I try to sync my iphone to my itunes account it tries to erase the music that was downloaded on my iphone. Is there anyway to download the music to my itunes account? If so please help

Music can only be synced to one computer....if done on one machine then you go to another...it will erase all content (to stop piracy).
Have him give you the physical file and you put it on your machine. Then try to play it in iTunes. It will prompt for his username and password (yes he will have to give it to you). It will then authorize your machine for his account as well (meaning you can play music from him). Note you have a limit of number of machines you can authorize and thus you will loose one authorization by doing this. So if you end up getting more machines in your home and/or other devices...you are short one account number now.

I have a Windows 7 laptop using I tunes 64 and all my music files are
on an external disc. I rarely use I tunes and at one point moved all my files
(including the music files) from one external disc to another without
considering what affect this would have on the I tunes library. When I eventually
attempted to use I tunes, every selected a song from the library resulted in a
message stating that the file couldn't be located. After following some of the procedures
explained in this community I was able to reconnect the library back to where
the associated music files are presently stored. However, there are still 2
problems that need to be corrected. 1) Every song file now has a duplicate. One
file works and the other file will result in the same message stating that the
file couldn't be located. Before there were 4,000 songs in the library, now
there are 8,000 songs. I need to eliminate the 4,000 dead song files. 2) All
the playlists are still associated with the dead song files which makes the
playlists unusable. Can the playlists be reconnected to the usable files
without manually having to recreate them? Thanks in advance for the help.

    So am I understanding correctly?
You used your iPod as a hard drive (drag and drop) instead of having iTunes install the music?
If you used drag and drop your choices are different than if you used iTunes to transfer.
    Good luck!

  • Is it possible to transfer music/videos from one itunes account to a separate one?  I need to give my music and videos that I bought a grandchild to her for her ipad.

Is it possible to transfer music/videos from my itunes account to a grandchild (she will need her own account)  I bought her music and videos and let her play with my ipod touch.  Now she has an ipad.

No you cannot transfer purchases from one account to another account. Apple does not allow it and never has allowed it.
She can use you Apple ID on the device and switch between her ID and your ID, but that can cause problems at times and can become a bit of a pain.

  • How to Move Music Library from one external HD to another

I had about 60GB of music on an external hard drive, nicely organized and "linked to" from iTunes (just upgraded to version 5). I recently purchased a larger external hard drive and basically copied the contents of my older external drive to the new one, preserving all folder structures from the root of the drives down (but the name of the drive itself is different.) I was hoping I could just do a search/replace of the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file in my Music/iTunes folder, to replace the name of the old drive (volume) with the new one. I did, and iTunes launches fine, preserving my playlists, song ratings, etc... but whenever I try to play any of the songs, it says it can't find it (I can manually point iTunes to it, but I don't want to do that for 15,000 songs...) Strange thing, though, is that if I quit out of iTunes and re-open the Library XML file, all the paths have been reset to their original location!! What am I missing? Thanks in advance,
    Jesse

I just want to add that the iTunes folder (with the library xml file and such) is on my local hard drive, in the typical Music/iTunes location. I don't want to simply re-import the songs 'cuz I'd lose playlist contents and ratings, and I don't want to "consolidate" the library because I want to keep my music folders and filenames as I currently have them. Basically, I just want iTunes to realize the songs have simply changed location from one external drive to another... thanks again.

  • How do I transfer music purchases from one apple id to another

I purchased music from Itunes years ago with an old apple id and old email address.  I am trying to play that music in my Itunes on my Dell Win7 laptop that uses a new apple id, and though the computer is authorized, it is authorized under the new apple id.  When I try to play the music, a box with the old apple id comes up, asking for a password.  I click 'Forgot' and am taken to a new screen that asks for my date of birth.  I enter it, and I get a big red message that this does not match there records.
I know the old apple id, but not the password, and the email address that was used for that apple id is no longer a valid email address for me.  The FAQ indicate that I should be able to authorize the music for multiple apple id's, but it does not say 'how'.
I tried changing the apple id and password to the new one when I tried to play the music, and nothing happened.  I can play the music that I added to itunes from cd's but not the purchased music.
I don't think this matters, but just in case it does:  I have a new iphone 6 that is authorized for my new apple id, but my issue right now is authorizing music on my laptop.  I'll tackle syncing the iphone with itunes on my laptop next.

You can’t. Click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.

  • .DS_store won't let me move files from one external drive to another

I am trying to move some music files from one external harddrive to another.  They are both connected to my mac mini.
In the "from" harddrive I have a folder with a bunch of music files in it and it also has a new file in it called DS_store. When I open this folder and select all, it naturally selects all of my music files and this DS_store file.  When I try to drag all of this to the "destination" harddrive I open the folder that I want to drag them to which already has some music and it has the DS_store file too, it won't let me drag the files to it   It says something like there is already a DS_store file there.  So I tried deleting that file from each external drive and it just reappears.
If I create an empty folder in the destination drive, I can drag all of the files to it.  The problem is I want the new files to be in the same folder with the older files.
In addition there are a few other ghost type files that have shown up too.
Any suggestions would be welcome.  Thanks.

If you're copying from a FAT-formatted volume, do as below.
    Back up all data.
Select the text on the line below by dragging across it. Don't include the blank space at the end of the line. Only the text should be highlighted.
    dot_clean -m
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Now switch to the Finder and and select the icon of the FAT volume. Drag into the Terminal window. More text will be added to what you entered.
Click in the Terminal window to activate it, then press return.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. Then quit Terminal and try the copy again.

    No.
One of you create a new AppleID and one use the existing AppleID.
But you can still use the items in each iTunes library.
Create separate computer logins for each of you.
This will give you each your own data. Contacts, calendars, photos, etc. (and your own iTunes library).

  • Moving music from one iTunes account to another

I have music that I bought using my dad's iTunes account but now I have my own and would like to move the music into my account, under my password. Is there a way to do this?

Are you referring to an iTunes Store account? If so, it's not possible to transfer tracks from one iTunes Store account to another. You'll have to continue to use your dad's account ID and password to authorize any tracks purchased through that account.

  • How to keep Itunes playing music when switching from one user account to another?

On my old pc, that running XP, itunes would continue playing when I was switching from one user account to another.
Now I have a new PC running win8 and the music stops playing when I switch from one user account to another. I think Itunes is still running on the user that is not active, but the music is not coming out of the speekers.
Does anyone know how I can get the win8 pc to do as the old XP machine?

    Hello over here,
The steps below detail how to place an input chooser that will allow for the adjustment of your keyboard layout while on the login screen.
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
Click Users & Groups to display the pane (or choose User & Groups from the View menu).
If the lock icon in the lower-left corner of the window is closed, click it, then enter the name and password of an administrator to unlock it.
    Click Login Options.
Select the "Show Input menu in login window" checkbox.
From the Apple menu, choose Log Out.
At the login window, click the Input menu (shows the name of the currently selected input source next to a keyboard icon) in the upper-right corner of the screen, then select the desired input source or keyboard layout. If you don't see the input source you are looking for, move the pointer over Other Input Sources, then select the input source from the complete list that appears.

  • Transfer music from one user account to another on the SAME mac?

My family (wife, son, daughter, and me) share an imac but we all have our own user accounts. Our entire itunes music library is in one user account and is getting to the point of being unmanageable.
Can I move some of my itunes library (e.g., my son's music) to another user account on the same iMac? Some songs were imported from CD and others were purchased from my Apple ID number.
It's my understanding that an ipod can only be synced with one itunes library at a time, but I thought Apple also restricted the usage of music bought from itunes to a finite number of computers. If this is true, I think I would be able to transfer a group of songs from one user account to another so long as the user accounts were on the same computer.
I was told that I could just drag the songs into a shared folder and then log into his account and drop them in iTunes.
    Some specific questions:
    1) Can I move all music files (CD and purchased) to the shared folder for dropping into his account?
2)The purchased ones were purchased under MY apple ID which I do not want to give him access to. Should I create one for him or just have him use mine and wait for my password. I would like to put an allowance on his new ID number and keep it separate from mine. Would that make a difference in the future if I wanted to use one of his songs on my iPod or in an iMovie project?
I just reinstalled my Lepoard OS X and put all my data back. I did not deauthorize anything before I did this. Did I need to? Or is even a clean install on the SAME machine ok and seen as the same authorization?
    Thanks in advance!!

You can give him copies of song files, either by using a shared folder, or by putting the copies on a USB flash drive from which he can copy them to his own iTunes library.
Any DRM-protected tracks that you have purchased from Apple can only be played if the user has authorization to the account(s) from which the tracks were purchased. Authorization requires physical access to the computer and knowledge of the password, and you can figure it from there!

  • How to transfer or share music from one iTunes iPhone to another iPhone with a different Apple ID?

When my son was younger he would get the music he wanted under my Apple ID on his iPod. Now he's older and has his own Apple ID. He still wants his music we paid for, which is tied to my Apple ID. Is there anyway to share or just transfer from one Apple ID to another on the device? I've read about sharing and authorizing on computers, but we don't have another computer to set up. Thank you all in advance!

You can't transfer music (nor any other content) from one account to another account, it will remain tied to the account that downloaded it. Also home sharing only works from a computer to a device (or to another computer), it doesn't work between iOS devices.
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be redownloaded in all countries) then he could potentially log into your account on his iPod (I assume that it's an iPod Touch) and redownload his music on it, but that might tie his iPod to your account for 90 days : iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID.
