Music showing up unavailable

I have some music in my ITunes that is showing up as unavailable.  Why is it doing that and how can I get it to play?

Not clear.  Do you mean you see exclamation marks saying there is a broken link?  If so, try actually finding one of the files that represents the track listed in iTunes (basically say "yes" when it asks you if you want to find it).  If this isn't what you mean then you need to explain exactly what you are seeing.

  • We have windows xp and my dad and I have seperate usernames on the computer each with itunes, however we shared an itunes id. Now with the new itunes each other's icloud music shows up in each of our librarys. Is there a way to not have icloud music show?

Basically I don't want the icloud to show up in my library or a viewing option that lets me hide it. Everything I've tried just simply gets rid of the little cloud icon in the library. I don't want to delete the songs from icloud just so that when I'm viewing my library only the songs on the computer show.
This has been an annoying problem because like I said on my each of our seperate librarys eachothers music shows up from the icloud and we have different tastes and I don't want his stuff intermixed and playing with mine when I'm in my library.

    Turn it off.

  • I have copied over my music file to a new computer and the music shows on itunes but wont play. When I track where the song is located it is reading the wrong information. How do I change this as Edit Preferences has the right location

I have copied over my music files to a new computer and the music shows on itunes but wont play. When I track where the song is located it is reading the wrong information. How do I change this as Edit>Preferences has the right location?

Select one of the tracks with a broken link, press ctrl-i to Get Info. Say No when iTunes asks if you would like to locate the track, then look at the Summary tab for the location expects to find the file in.
Now try to locate the file in question. The two locations should give a clue as to what to do next.
Here is an example with a file I've deliberately moved from the new layout to the old pre-iTunes 9 layout.
This means iTunes is expecting to find the file at:
    D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\a-ha\Take On Me\01 Take On Me.mp3
but it isn't there because I've moved it to:
    D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\a-ha\Take On Me\01 Take On Me.mp3
which is where it would have lived back in iTunes 8 (though the media folder would have been called iTunes Music back then as well).
If you can provide the expected and actual locations of a broken track I should be able to suggest the easiest way to resolve things.

  • Optical drive on iMac at work, barely one year old, won't read CD's....disc utilities shows disc unavailable!  Rarely used and out of warranty, what a rip off!!  I have been on MACS since the 80's and things are getting more and more difficult

Optical drive on iMac at work, barely one year old, won't read CD's....disc utilities shows disc unavailable!  Rarely used and out of warranty, what a rip off!!  I have been on MACS since the 80's and things are getting more and more difficult to deal with. Why did it quit after barely being used? Any help from Apple?

It depends on what you mean by "barely one year old". If the iMac is only a couple of days out of warranty, Apple's been known to make exceptions and extend the warranty, though it's by no means guaranteed. If it's several days or more out of warranty, then Apple will fix it, if it's a hardware problem, but the repair won't be free. This is no different now then it would have been with a Mac purchased back in the 80s.
Why the drive failed, if indeed it has, is impossible to say. Could have been a static shock, a weak component that failed when power was applied, or a mechanical fault in one of the tiny parts used in optical drives and hard drives that finally broke.
    Regards.

  • Albums in music showing up multiple times

I just upgraded to 3.1 and now albums in my music show multiple times, but when I click on any one of them, the whole album lists to play. How do I eliminate all the duplicate listings in the album section of my music?

To fix this I had to go into iTunes and check a few things. First go to the album that is giving you trouble. Start with the first song and "Get Info" (right click on PC not sure on Mac). Select the "Info" tab at the top and go through each song on the album. Make sure each song has the EXACT same album title. Other things to check are album year and album artist. Different capitalized letters may also cause your problem (The is not the same as THE). If all else fails try also selecting the "Part of a compilation" radio button for all songs part of the same album.

Puch the center button to switch between volume -> scrubber -> rating -> artwork -> lyrics.

  • My music shows up in my library but wunes cannot play it cause it could not find the original file

My music shows up in my library but when I click on it an exclamation mark comes up and says it cannot locate the file!  Please help

Either you or an application on your computer moved the location of the actual files.
Put the files back where they originally were.

  • Recently got a new computer and installed itunes from external drive - all music shows up in the library, however when i click on a song i receive this message "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found".  What do i do?

I recently got a new computer and installed itunes from which had been saved onto an external drive - all music shows up in the library, however when I click on a song I receive this message "the song "abc" could not be used because the original file could not be found".  What can I do?

I was given the option to locate the file where the song is held. If so select "locate" and direct it to the folder / file where the song is and open it. itunes then will give you the option to use this process to update all of your library. OK that as this will do it automatically instead of doing them one by one. I hope this helps.

  • When i scan my ipod from the application named find my ipod touch 4 it simply shows location unavailable while that of my cousin's ipod touch exactly shows the same location..... Why does that happen???

When i scan my ipod from the application named find my ipod touch 4 it simply shows location unavailable while that of my cousin's ipod touch exactly shows the same location..... Why does that happen???

When you go to the Google Maps app on the iPod does it correctly find your location? The iPod's locations service uses the location of the a nearby wifi router to locate te iPod.  However, not all routers are in Apple's database and as of yet nobody here knows of a way to add routers to the database.

  • Why isn't all of my music showing up with iTunes Match?

My old computer died so I can't access my original iTunes.  So I purchased the iTunes Match subscription in hopes of moving my music over to my other computer.  Much of my music showed up but there is a lot that didn't -- including CDs that I burned to my original library.  I've made sure to authorize my new computer -- so that's not the issue.  How can I get my entire library over to the new computer?

    Hi,
Music can only be matched if it is actually in your library. If you subscribed to match on your old computer, then you should have access to them when you sign into match on your new computer.
If you did not have a backup, you will have lost them.

  • Why isn't my uploaded music showing on my iPad?

Sorry, but I am a novice when it comes to this stuff.
First, my 'home' for my iTunes is my all-in-one PC at home.  Have uploaded probably 150 CD's properly into iTunes.  Those are properly showing up on my home computer.  No issues there.
Second, so far I have downloaded probably 35 individual songs from iTunes.  Those also are properly showing up on my home computer.  No issues there.
From there, I also have an iPad.  I have downloaded iTunes onto the iPad, and I know I have the most recent update to iTunes.  I followed steps for Home Sharing, but when I open my music on the iPad's ITunes, the only music showing up are the 35 individual songs that I have downloaded.  Nowhere can I locate the 150 CD's I properly uploaded into my iTunes account.
What am I doing wrong here?  How can I get the 150 CD's to show up on my iPad?  Do I need to do more than just Home Sharing, like iCloud?
    I am obviously stuck.
    Thanks!

When I sync music from iTunes to iPhone, the music shows a dotted circle in iTunes and doesn't show or play on my iPhone music app.
any ideas how to resolve this?

after looking at a few other posts, i tried the uncheck the sync box, did a sync, rechecked the box, and synced again.  the music is now downloading into my phone.  if anyone else has this problem try this first.

You cannot sync iphones to ipads.
You would sync the ipad to your computer, just as you do your iphones.

  • Music store is unavailable?? I cannot resume interrupted downloads.

"Unable to Check for Purchases. The music store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
This is the message I receive when trying to resume an interruped download.
In the middle of downloading a season of Scrubs, the download stopped. When checking for the purchases to restart the transfer, I began receiving the "Unable to check for purchases" message. The message suggests that the music store is unavailable, but this is untrue. I can connect, and have successfully downloaded new purchases since the problem started. I just cant "check for purchases."
I am connected wirelessly through a router. As far as I know, nothing triggered the cessation of the Scrubs download. I have tried (as sugessted in the help section) turning off the firewall, turning the router on and off, and restarting the computer. None of these options worked.
    My system has-
    1 GB RAM
    23 GB free space
    Microsoft Windows XP
    Media Center Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2
      Windows XP

Have you tried disabling antivirus and security programs?

  • After ios 5 the ipod that changed to music shows all my songs but they are greyed out and will not play

after ios 5 the ipod that changed to music shows all my songs but they are greyed out and will not play

did uncheck all music and resynced afterwards. Got all my music back on the phone. Next morning, the phone had greyed out 1/3 of the songs all by itself. Seems to have something to do with syncing over wifi. No solution yet other than resyncing all my playlists one by one,
Combined with a battery that drained 5% every 5 minute before I reset the network settings, I am not impressed with Apple's premature launch of their new os. This is what beta testing is for, folks. The iPhone should be done with the growing pains. Shame.
