More than likely you don't have shuffle on, you have repeat on. Repeat is the oval shapped double arrow. It changes color as you change settings. See the User Guide http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf

Sounds like the Repeat option has been enabled. To disable it, tap the artwork of the currently playing track to bring up the additional controls. Under the scrubber bar on the left hand side is the repeat setting. Tap it until it turns white meaning that it is off.

Music shuffle not working correctly after upgrade to ios8

Since I upgraded to ios 8 my music player stops remembering the last song playing and i have to restart shuffle from scratch everytime i want to start playing music.
I am choosing songs and have set to shuffle all. i upgraded to ios 8.0.2 already
Any advise how to fix this?

ITunes Party Shuffle not working

Has anyone had trouble with the iTunes party shuffle not working? I have unistalled iTunes and reinstalled iTunes hoping that would fix the problem but I just keep getting an alphabetical list of my songs in the party shuffle mode.

GO to Setting > Cellar Data > VPN Settings > Add any user and password under Personal Hotspot, then you will see it's activated again as usual

I wanted to add something here that may or may not be accurate, since I was suffering the exact same issues (on an iPhone 6+, and replicated on an iPhone 5 patched to 8.0) you were describing Nick. In an effort to trouble shoot this I picked up one of the third party tools that allows you onto the iOS device file system. I've been trying since Friday night to reproduce the conditions that cause the issue but haven't quite narrowed it down. Including this here in case the Engineers are poking around in the discussion boards and are trying to reproduce this.
This is an iPhone 6+ running 8.0 (12A366) connecting physically to iTunes 11.4 on a MBP running 10.9.5 (13F34; fully patched).
Here's what I did last night and this seems to have worked (meaning, I can sync music now without issue at least for syncs this morning; will confirm tonight by syncing again):
Turned off iTunes Match on the iTunes library I am syncing from
Unchecked all non-AAC music files (Apple lossless and MPEG audio both; these were just flat out refusing to copy over, claiming to have copied but coming up with the exclamation point when accessed on the device via iTunes; none of these lossless or mp3 files have been an issue in any previous version of iOS, meaning they are all of the correct sample and bitrate to be used and can sync to other devices in the household running iOS 7)
Removed all music from the iOS device (by deselecting music syncing)
Hard rebooted the iOS device after disconnecting it; rebooted the iTunes library host
Reconnected the iOS device and fired up the third party app (this is the part I do not recommend, but I was eager to try to figure out what the root cause was)
Removed the iTunes library files on iOS (this is something I had done between other factory resets earlier to force the iOS device to rebuild the library; to rule out library corruption)
Removed any "music" folders remaining on the iOS device (this is also something I had done a few times which had had no effect)
Removed any saved artwork (this was something I had not done before, but I too had noticed a strange correlation between it stopping working and the artwork being synced)
Disconnected and rebooted the iOS device again (forcing a recreation of the iTunes library database files)
Reconnected the device and started syncing small playlists (50-100 songs). In increments it all seems to be syncing up now without issue
The two new steps this time around that seem, at least at initial glance, to have solved the problem are stopping syncing any non-AAC music media files and the deletion of the existing artwork folders on the iOS device. Syncing appears to be working, even after disconnecting and reconnecting the device.

5800 music library not working..

my 5800's music library is not working anymore and it cant play mp3 and other sound files.. but when i remove the memory card..it can play the sounds..also my picture editor is not working..
in my memory card..i found many folders namely _PAlbTN..is it a virus??
do I need to reformat my memory card?
and what do i haveto copy on my pc when i format it?
just the mp3 videos and pictures? or do I have to copy also the folders like private, sys, etc?

That is a thumbnail file.
You can format the card if you want, but that would also bring problems on the apps if you do not uninstall them first as your phone will read then as not uninstalled properly and you wont be able to download them again from Ovi Store. So when you format it, just copy your own files (music, pictures, etc) and leave everything else alone.
How exactly does your music player not work anymore. Has it stopped showing songs? Cant it refresh?

I Pod Shuffle not working right...inquiry??

I have a I Pod shuffle 2nd generation. I went to sync more music on to it and it when I auto filled it does not work and I have done the diagnostics. I get this message from I Tunes. I cannot add any songs to my I Pod because no songs will copy to this my I Pod? I have done the diagnostics and here are the results. Any help here? thanks.

Shuffle not working on either mac or windows?

I've been trying forever to get my 1GB shuffle to work on my home PC. Re-installed and everything as per the instructions on the website, even tried to format the drive. Each time an application such as Itunes or windows explorer trys to access the shuffle it freezes up.
I took it to work and tried it on 3 more computers... a windows 2000 machine, Windows XP Pro machine, and a Mac G5. In fact it totally locked up the G5 when we plug it in, which is the same thing that happens with windows.
The light flashes amber when you plug it in and never stops. Alls the instructions say about that is "do not remove the iPod shuffle". I've left it like that for *5 hours* once, when i came back it was in the same condition.
The shuffle still plays tunes, still appears to be charged/charging. but i've not been able to update it for over a month now.

I have the same problem yesterday. I think Sam has got a solution for this, and i found sometimes it works, but not always.
1. download the lastest version of both itunes and ipod updater.
2. open ipod updater and itunes.
3. when window for ipod updater shows 'insert your ipod', insert your ipod.
4. let the ipod updater restore the initial settings on your ipod.
5. may be after this, itunes could recongise your ipod and transfer music to your shuffle automatically. So, it is a good idea to get all the songs ready in itunes before restoring your shuffle.
BTW, using a rear usb on your pc might be helpful.

Answer to problem of shuffle not working on windows

I had all the problems I have seen posted on the boards. Windows not recognizing shuffle, then I-tunes not recognizing it, trouble updating, transfering files, on and on.
i did everything advised, reloaded itunes and updater several times updated the shuffle. nothing worked
i thougth it was problems with shuffle/windows. I got my shuffle from audible.com for signing up for 6 months. i sent one shuffle back, got a replacement. same story. then i talked them into sending me another one although i did not think this would work. Guess what! worked first time right out of box, no problems at all.
So basically 2 shuffles were defective. the Audible help guys said that a big lot of defective shuffles were sent out. not on purpose i assume but nontheless.
So my advise if you have this option is to bring it back, and get another one. that may be easier said than done but if you have a shuffle that does not work it is probably defective

I had problems with my shuffle playing audible files. Went to an Apple Store and they replaced the shuffle. Still wouldn't play the file. Downloaded a format 4 Audible Earshot and was able to play that fine. Down loaded my book again in format 3 and that played fine. I think it's a file size issue. I was able to play format 3 up to 60meg file but a format 4 89 meg file would not play. Anybody out there have a format 4 60meg file. My shuffle will play the smaller format 4 files so it's able to read a format 4. I've been able to play a format 3 up to 60meg (the largest I have). I have a iPod video and it's able to play the audible files fine so the file isn't corrupt. I can play the file off my Shuffle using iTunes fine again it points to the file is fine on the Shuffle but it can't handle the large file. If I have music files in front of the audible file they play fine but once it hits the audible file nothing works and I have to reset the Shuffle by power cycling.

"Shake to Shuffle" not working properly after 4.0.2 update on Touch 3G.

It will shuffle by shaking it ONLY if any of the music windows are open but when the music is in backround mode S2S does not work anymore.

Sounds like it's working to me. Is that not supposed to be the way it works? I remember that on 3.1.3 it wouldn't work when the iPod was locked. Would it shuffle if shook on the home screen or in another app pre-iOS4?

Party Shuffle not working...help?

I can't get my Party Shuffle to work. I'm running version 7.0.1 and when I select Party Shuffle there's nothing on the playlist. Then I select a source (doesn't seem to matter what I select here...Music, or Purchased or a Playlist) and shuffle and I get an error message that says "The playlist "xxx" does not contain any songs playable by Party Shuffle. Are you sure you want to choose this playlist?" This is the first time I've actually tried this, although I've been importing music to my itunes for some time. Thanks!

Usually, you will only get that message when choosing an empty playlist or one containing streams only.
Any other playlist should work.
I've tried to get the same problem as you're having, using various settings in iTunes 7.0.2, but I did not succeed.
iTunes 7.0.2 has a number of bugs fixes. Can you (and are you willing to) upgrade to iTunes 7.0.2 and tell us if the problem is solved or still persists?

Ipod shuffle not working

Two weeks ago I bought (my first ipod) an ipod shuffle online and it is not working anymore. I didn't have any problems installing the software and downloading the music but after a week of using it my computer and the itunes just doesn't recognize the ipod at all. Everytime i plug the ipod in the USB the "autoplay" comes out but that's all and the orange light keeps blinking. Whenever I turn it on and try to play music the green and orange lights comes out and the ipod doesn't play at all. I can't even update or restore it, the updater always shows that it cannot mount the ipod. I have tried resetting and tried every advice that i found online but it didn't work. I am really really dissappointed and frustrated right now for the fact i just got it and it didn't last that long. I would appreciate any help.
