Music skipping during DVD slideshow

I have been buring the same slideshow for weeks - it works fine on all of my tv's computers etc - when we play it back at my clients office the music drops out during each slide - it sounds like skipping -what did i miss?

You missed telling us on what device are playing it back on at your client's office.
If works everyplace else, the likely issue is the player there.

  • Music skips during slideshow

    Hi,
When I play a slideshow from within iphoto8 the music skips every 10-15 seconds. If I play the same selection in itunes it does not skip. I've tried this with many songs in the off chance that it was the one song but it does it with every song I tried. Apple just replaced my power supply thinking it was defective but it did not cure the problem. I have plenty of space on my hard drive if that matters. Any one else have this problem?

    >> Did you tried an other USB stick?<< - Yes, several
    >>Perhapst you can shorten the fade in / out of the pictures a little bit.<< - I will try that next!
    >>small buffer in the Vizio << I need it to work for all large flat screen TV's because it is going to be marketed as a big screen slideshow
The thing is that if I just play the soundtrack on the TV, it works fine with no skipping. I am wondering if my images might be too large. They are all 300 DPI JPG's and about 5,000 pixels at about 10 megabytes, and there are 276 of them for playing the video for about 40 minutes.
I could convert the mp3 to mp4a and add that format as the soundtrack.
Thanks for all of your input,
    Allen

  • IDVD music skips during slideshows

    hey guys
I'm on leopard and iLife 09 (also iLife 07 on another mac but has same issue)
I've read some articles that tell me the reason for music skipping on iDVD is it will only handle 99 chapters.
Can someone advise if this problem would still occur if the slideshow was made using different software OR how to get around the music skipping issue.
I am aware you can export a slideshow from iPhoto but the quality is not the same as in iDVD and iMovie simply takes far to long to create a slideshow.
    Thanks for your help!
    Sammy

The same problem has been bugging me too. Seems 99 IS the limit. If you want each slide to show for say 3 seconds then you need a piece of music that last 297 seconds for those 99 images. If your music last say 300 secs (5 minutes) the I use GarageBand and start to fade it from say 290secs and split it at 297secs and delete the last bit. Then I add another track that last for the remainder, so if you have 150 images in total you need something that will last for 150 x 3 secs and fade again if necessary. I think the trick is to multiply 99 by the length of time you want each image to show and then import music pieces into GarageBand.
You are using 5 minutes music for 150 images. That’s only 2 secs per image! Are you stuck with that time limit?
In your case, with 150 images at 4 seconds each you’d need 10 minutes in total, composed of 99x4 secs (6mins 36secs) and another piece that lasts 3mins 24secs or thereabouts, or that you fade out after that time. Then when your pieces of music are ready, save them across to iTunes (share) and import from there. Or just play the same piece of music a second time. Not ideal, but it’s the only solution I’ve been able to come up with so far.

  • Music skips when running slideshow in iPhot0 8

I created a slideshow in Iphoto 8 and when I play it any music I select from Itunes (burned from a CD and not purchased on Itunes) skips about every 10 seconds. I've tried several songs and they all do the same thing. When I play the same songs on Itunes they do not skip. I have also tried running other slideshows and the problem occurs in them as well.
Apple just replaced my power supply thinking that it was defective and overloaded while running a slideshow with music and it did not resolve the problem. I have 4gb of ram and a large HD which is only half utilized. Can anyone offer a solution?
    thanks for your help!

Let's try the long shot fix: close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps. It's fixed other issues that were seemingly unrelated to a preference file.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Only one iTunes song plays during DVD slideshow

I have built a slideshow in iDVD6 that's about fifteen minutes long. I added four purchased iTunes tracks, grouped in a playlist, into the audio well in iDVD. The Project Info shows the four tracks.
Only one track plays, however, on the burned DVDs. It repeats itself several times until the slideshow is finished.
In reading other posts about audio, I've noticed that too little available space on the drive with the project can sometimes make iDVD a bit wonky.
I have about 15 gigs available - could that be causing this problem?

15GB should be sufficient, although more always is better.
On the chance that some preference or permission is corrupted, try the following standard stuff that we do when an iLife program is acting weird: Close iDVD and trash the file com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User/Library/Preferences. Then do a permissions repair using the Disk Utility app on your Mac.
If that doesn't solve it, as a workaround you could try joining the songs in your playlist into one total soundtrack. You could do this by putting your playlist into an iMovie project and then exporting your playlist onto your desk top as an aiff file. (File/Export/Expert Settings/Share/Sound to aiff) Then import that file directly into your iDVD project, or into iTunes and from there into your iDVD project.
Another way is to export your playlist to a musical CD, and then import all the songs at once from the CD back into iTunes, checking the "Join CD tracks" option on the iTunes Advanced menu. That will join all the tracks into one long clip.
Perhaps someone else will come up with a better suggestion. Good luck with this.

  • MUSIC SKIPS AFTER 9 - 10 Minutes on slideshow DVD

Have created 60 minute slideshow with 500 photos. Added music from iTunes (music entered into iTunes via purchased CD's). Everything is fine when the slideshow is tested prior to burning a DVD. Once the DVD is create, the music ALWAYS pauses or skips momentarily every 9 or 10 minutes during playback. Images remain on screen. This has happened on every DVD slideshow I have created. Would appreciate any suggestions. Many thanks.

What you have described is an issue that has been known to happen when there are more than 99 photos in the slideshow created in iDVD. When you have a large number of photos, you can avoid this problem by using iPhoto to create your slideshow. Save this slideshow as a QuickTime movie, and then import into iDVD.
    I hope this helps.

  • Burned DVD stops or music skips at 100th chapter

I am creating a slideshow with music in iDVD. When playing the burned dvd the music skips or the dvd stops at the 100th picture. Any fix for the problem? I noticed that iDVD automatically assigns each picture its own chapter so it could be the 100th chapter that causes the problem. If so, is there any way to have more than 1 picture per chapter?
    Thanks for your help!

The 99 photos was because, as the original poster indicates, each photo is a chapter and the Video DVD standard (nothing to do with Apple, but the industry standard) is 99 chapters max. These days many players will play past 99 chapters, but many others, especially older ones, the strictly conform to the DVD standard balk when there are more than 99 chapters.
So while iDVD will now allow slide shows past 99 photos, if you want your DVD to be compatible with the most set top players, you are better off limiting your slideshow to no more than 99 photos. If you want more, then you want to create your slideshow manually in iPhoto or iMovie and place your own chapter markers keeping the number of chapters under 100.

  • Music will not play from iTunes during a slideshow that is run from flickr. ATV says turn on homesharing...it already is on!  HELP!!!!

Music will not play during a slideshow launched from Flickr.  After choosing music and starting slideshow, the screen says "loading" and it never stops.  Under the computers section it says, turn on home sharing in iTunes on the computer with the music library.  It is on but apple tv wont recognize it.  I've signed out and signed back in over and over and home sharing is on but music wont play.  Is this a bug with flickr?  Music will play when i launch a slideshow from the iPad but it doesnt have as many cool options for slideshows as flickr does.  I want the flickr slideshow to play with music!!!  Grrrrrrrr!!!!!  Can anyone help???

ok, major miracle.  it is now working.  here is how i fixed it, and it was a stroke of luck to even find this.  opened iTunes, went to edit, then to preferences.  box pops up, went to the sharing icon and clicked share my local library on my local network.  then scrolled down and checked all the boxes that were applicable.  for the heck of it i went through all the other headings to see what else might be hiding from me.  i never thought this would do anything but went to ATV, selected flickr, chose some music and wa-la....its playing.  also, under the computers heading, it still does not show my iTunes library but clearly its there someplace.  oh well, it works...i'm happy!  your reply inspired me to keep working so thank you for that!

  • Airtunes - music cuts or skips during play

Just installed the upgrade to 7,32 (6) and my music skips when playing on remote speakers (perhaps on Mac too, but haven't tried that yet. Really random skips - some songs only, sometimes often, sometimes not.
Library is on LaCie external drive. Set-up worked fine with previous versions.
    Thanks

I also have this problem. It is infrequent, and solving it is inconsistent. sometimes simply restarting itunes is enough, sometimes a computer restart, router restart or force quitting itunes is required to stop the skipping.
It's making my wireless music listening experience less than enjoyable.
I am streaming my music to a airport express connected to an apple ipod hi-fi from a lacie firewire 400 7200rpm hard drive. through itunes obviously. and yes, i have set my buffer to large.
thank you for any suggestions you may have for me, ben

  • Music skips before each and every slide

Hi there. I have been burning a number of slideshows with iDVD and putting playlists from iTunes to them. No matter which DVD player I play them on at each transition (the split second before) the music skips a beat or two. I'm sure this is similar to the problem discussed yesterday in a different post, but that post talked about the skip happening once at the 8 min 58 sec. mark. This is happening throughout. These are long slideshows - so that's a different issue though. Also, to help the discussion go farther - faster - a few other notes:
The DVD plays the WORST on my computer.
I am using Apple and Verbatim DVD's.
I have tried all different music from iTunes.
The skipping also happens on the menu page.
I am NOT an iDVD expert. These 10 or dvd's are my first. I am dragging an album into iDVD and editing it there.
Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong to be getting this continual skip?

Yes, today I am using Verbatim DVD-R with up to 16x speed.
iDVD may be recording "too fast." Burning the disk image will give you control over that.
How do I create a Disk image?
    Sorry...
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • How do I create my own favorite template for DVD slideshows? I used to be able to select this from pulldown menu, but cannot now do so. I am directed straight to templates, which take more memory. I have a large slideshow, and need all the space I can get

First, how do I create my own favorite theme template for DVD slideshows? I used to be able to select this from pulldown menu, but cannot now do so. I am directed straight to already existing themes, which take more memory. I have a large slideshow, and need all the space I can get. I just want to use a picture as my DVD cover, and then insert a slideshow. Also, when I try to burn my 8.5gb double sided slideshow, all that burns is the music. It is a large slideshow, a memorial on the life of my now deceased brother. This means a lot to me and to my family, and I am having so much trouble trying to burn it. I have gone into Project View and selected appropriately. The bar shows I have room to burn this DVD, but it does not burn.  I have burned so many DVDs in the past, but this one just will not burn. I am so confused at this point. I will say this is the first 8.5gb I have attempted to create and burn. My specs list a 7.7gb or 4.7gb as operable....but there are no 7.7gb dvds. I had to purchase 8.5gb. Help? What am I doing wrong? I have spent so much time on this, and just cannot figure it out.

Final Cut is a separate, higher end video editor.  The pro version of iMovie.
Give iPhoto a look at for creating the slideshow.  It's easy to assemble the photos in an album in iPhoto, put them in the order you want and then make a slideshow of them.  You can select from various themes and transitions between slides and add music from your iTunes library.
When you have the slidshow as you want use the Export button at the bottom of the iPhoto window and export with Size = Medium or Large.
Save the resulting Quicktime movie file in your Movies folder.
Next, open iDVD, choose your theme and drag the QT movie file into the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Then follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
The reason I suggest iPhoto is that I find it much easier to use than iMovie (except for the older iMovie 6 HD version).  Personal preferences showing here.

  • Music Skips

    Ok gang, here we go.
When playing purchased music or imported music, the music skips initially and then skips some without cpu load, or vigorously with cpu load (such as starting control panel, firefox, or any other program).
I've done the following (all as of 5/21/07):
    - updated bios, and all windows updates
    - updated directx
    - updated sound drivers (conexant)
    - updated quicktime
    - changed to WaveOut and 16bit in Quicktime Prefs
    - changed to full hardware acceleration
    - defragged
    - deloused (adaware, windows defender, etc)
    - disk cleanup
There are 1.3GB of imported songs, 800MB of purchased music, and 2.8GB of podcasts.
I've run network and cd/dvd diagnostics which returned the following results...
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
    Hewlett-Packard Presario V5000 (ET828UA#ABA)

  • Share pciture files in DVD slideshow

I am creating a DVD slideshow of a recent trip and would like to know how others (the receipients of the DVD) can download the pictures for their own.
I have setup the slideshows and know how to create them on iDVD from iPhoto, then setup the music, theme, etc.
But I also want my friends to be able to access and save the pics to their computers, aside from just being able to view the DVD. Can this be done?
    Thanks

    Can this be done?
Yes. See iDVD 6.0 Help - Adding files to the DVD-ROM portion of a disc at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/74.html
